Human health: From theory to practice.Igor Smirnov - 1989 - Journal of Medicine and Philosophy 14 (3):251-259.
Full development of personality under socialism is ensured by the further improvement of the socialist system and the rising cultural and material levels of the Soviet people. The author demonstrates that a new, integrated approach should be taken to the problem of human health in Soviet sociopolitical strategy: the concept of human health should embrace philosophical aspects together with findings of the natural and social sciences. The author looks at the wide range of social, philosophical, and methodological issues which should (...)

On Essential Incompleteness of Hertz’s Experiments on Propagation of Electromagnetic Interactions.R. Smirnov-Rueda - 2005 - Foundations of Physics 35 (1):1-31.
The historical background of the 19th century electromagnetic theory is revisited from the standpoint of the opposition between alternative approaches in respect to the problem of interactions. The 19th century electrodynamics became the battle-field of a paramount importance to test existing conceptions of interactions. Hertz’s experiments were designed to bring a solid experimental evidence in favor of one of them. The modern scientific method applied to analyze Hertz’s experimental approach as well as the analysis of his laboratory notes, dairy and (...)

Ancestral war and the evolutionary origins of heroism.Oleg Smirnov, Holly Arrow, Douglas Kennett & John Orbell - manuscript
Primatological and archaeological evidence along with anthropological accounts of hunter-gatherer societies indicate that lethal between-group violence may have been sufficiently frequent during our ancestral past to have shaped our evolved behavioral repertoire. Two simulations explore the possibility that heroism (risking one's life fighting for the group) evolved as a specialized form of altruism in response to war. We show that war selects strongly for heroism but only weakly for a domain-general altruistic propensity that promotes both heroism and other privately costly, (...)

Embedding the elementary ontology of stanisław leśniewski into the monadic second-order calculus of predicates.V. A. Smirnov - 1983 - Studia Logica 42 (2-3):197 - 207.
LetEO be the elementary ontology of Leniewski formalized as in Iwanu [1], and letLS be the monadic second-order calculus of predicates. In this paper we give an example of a recursive function , defined on the formulas of the language ofEO with values in the set of formulas of the language of LS, such that EO A iff LS (A) for each formulaA.

  9. Understanding justice in an islamic context: Some points of contrast with western theories.A. Smirnov - 1996 - Philosophy East and West 46 (3):337-350.
It is the difference in the ways of seeing "obvious things" that creates cultural diversity. With this in mind, the fundamental ideas behind the notion of justice in classical Islamic thought are examined, such as the nature of truth and the relation of "things" to time and space, and the meaning of the "law" that follows from these ideas. Certain features of Islamic justice (e.g., latitude in making judicial and legislative decisions) are treated as natural and even logical consequences of (...)

Strict embedding of the elementary ontology into the monadic second-order calculus of predicates admitting the empty individual domain.Vladimir A. Smirnov - 1987 - Studia Logica 46 (1):1 - 15.
There is given the proof of strict embedding of Leniewski's elementary ontology into monadic second-order calculus of predicates providing a formalization of the class of all formulas valid in all domains (including the empty one). The elementary ontology with the axiom S (S S) is strictly embeddable into monadic second-order calculus of predicates which provides a formalization of the classes of all formulas valid in all non-empty domains.

    Bioethics in narrative foreshortening: From «science of survival» to the radical ethics of salvation.K. S. Smirnov - 2020 - Bioethics 25 (1):5-9.
The increasingly foreshortening of bioethics known as narrative and even literary bioethics is analyzed in article. This analysis is realized on the material of Rudyard Kipling’s story «The miracle of Purun Bhagat». Deconstruction in its ethical aspect comes out in this case as method of the overcoming of logocentrism and becomes radicalization of ethics. The talk is about consideration of bioethics not simply as the science of survival but as radical ethics of the salvation of life. The text of the (...)

The problem of ontological commitments in event semantics.Mikhail Smirnov - 2016 - Epistemology and Philosophy of Science 50 (4):135-150.
The investigation is devoted to the problem of formal representation of logical structure and ontological commitments of natural language event sentences. The specificity of ontological commitments problem with regard to natural and formal languages is shown. The alternative approaches to the formal representation of event sentences (argument approach, davidsonian and neodavidsonian approaches, operator approach) are characterized with respect to their key features from formal logical and ontological points of view. The difference in the logical structure of sentences expressing events by (...)

The fact that the names of two philosophers who lived and worked in such different periods, under conditions of quite dissimilar cultures and civilizations, share the title of this article is in itself enough to require clarification. Nikolai Berdiaev, who belonged to a current of Russian philosophy that called itself mystical, hardly needs to be presented to the reader. Muhyiuddin ibn-'Arabi , the greatest mystic of the Arab Middle Ages, is known as the founder of a philosophical conception that was (...)

Whatever happened to the ‘European’ in European social psychology? A study of the ambitions in founding the European Association of Experimental Social Psychology.Sandra Gl Schruijer - 2012 - History of the Human Sciences 25 (3):88-107.
This article studies the ambitions involved in founding the European Association of Experimental Social Psychology (EAESP) in the context of a differentiation between social psychology practised in Europe on the one hand and the United States on the other. To this end 8 key actors have been interviewed: 4 members of the very first Executive Committee (or Planning Committee as it was called then) as well as 4 key players of a second generation. Also the EAESP’s archives have been consulted. (...)

  38. Some features of physical systems without time and dynamics (in English).Andrey Smirnov - manuscript
Physical systems without time and dynamics have been considered. The principle of how to construct spacetime in a physical system without time and dynamics has been proposed. It has been found what can be objects in such a spacetime, and what can be an interaction between such objects. Within the framework of the considered class of systems, answers to the following problems of philosophy and physics have been found: the nature of consciousness and the connection of body and consciousness (mind-body (...)

The article refutes the widespread view that Dostoevsky's Christian beliefs were strictly Orthodox. It is proved that Dostoevsky's religious and philosophical searches' central tendency is the criticism of historical, ecclesiastical Christianity as a false, distorted form of the teaching of Jesus Christ and the desire to restore this teaching in its original purity. Modern researchers of the history of early Christianity find more and more arguments in favor of the fact that the actual teaching of Jesus Christ is contained in (...)

The construction of space-time in a physical system without time and dynamics is considered. It is shown that the anthropic principle and causality principle inevitably arise in models without time and dynamics. It is shown that for any physical model based on a system without time and dynamics, the anthropic principle is a scientific principle and, in principle, can be falsified. It is shown that, in principle, there is the possibility of experimental verification of what is true - realism or (...)

  46. Anthropic principle as a consequence of the time emergence.Andrey Smirnov - manuscript
The paper considers the philosophical component of the approach to the time as an emergent phenomenon absent at the fundamental level. The anthropic principle is shown as arising from the time emergence. Consciousness is shown as an epiphenomenon in such a model, although it is more fundamental than matter in this case. An answer to the question about the prime cause is suggested.
