    Critiquing the Concept of BCI Illiteracy.Margaret C. Thompson - 2019 - Science and Engineering Ethics 25 (4):1217-1233.
Brain–computer interfaces are a form of technology that read a user’s neural signals to perform a task, often with the aim of inferring user intention. They demonstrate potential in a wide range of clinical, commercial, and personal applications. But BCIs are not always simple to operate, and even with training some BCI users do not operate their systems as intended. Many researchers have described this phenomenon as “BCI illiteracy,” and a body of research has emerged aiming to characterize, predict, and (...)

Sartre, Life and Works.Kenneth Thompson & Margaret Thompson - 1984 - New York: N.Y. ; Bicester, England : Facts on File.
"This book is part of a series of contemporary chronologies, each dealing with a figure of major importance to modern civilization. Each is a year-by-year, even month-by-month or day-by-day, chronology of the subject's life and works, carefully researched and compiled. No biography can be completely objective when it concerns itself with a figure of major importance and, therefore, controversy; the detailed chronological and bibliographical record of a life probably comes closer to an unbiased and comprehensive view than any other form. 7. Structuring reality.Naomi Margaret Claire Thompson - 2014 - Dissertation, University of Birmingham
This thesis explores attempts to characterise the structure of reality. Three notions stand out: Lewisian naturalness, Sider’s ‘structure’, and grounding, where the latter has become the most popular way to characterise the structure of reality in the contemporary literature. I argue that none of these notions, as they are currently understood, are suited for limning the metaphysical structure of reality. In the first part of the thesis I argue that, by the lights of the relevant theories, both naturalness and structure (...)

This essay examines the life and work of early socialist thinker Anna Doyle Wheeler, who, with the Owenite theorist William Thompson, was author of The Appeal of One Half the Human Race, Women, Against the Pretentions of the Other Half, Men …. In analyzing her thought, I employ a typological model for the development of a feminist consciousness proposed by Michèle Riot-Sarcey and Eleni Varikas. These authors posit three types of a feminist “pariah” consciousness: 1) exceptional woman feminism 2) (...)

‘These Things not Marked on Paper’: Creolisation, Affect and Tomboyism in Joan Anim-addo's Janie, Cricketing Lady and Margaret Cezair-thompson's The Pirate's Daughter.Karina Smith - 2013 - Feminist Review 104 (1):119-137.
This article will look closely at the performance of tomboy identity in Joan Anim-Addo's collection of poetry Janie, Cricketing Lady, written as a tribute to her mother Jane Joseph, and Margaret Cezair-Thompson's novel The Pirate's Daughter, a fiction about Errol Flynn's ‘outside’ Jamaican daughter, May. It will argue that the ongoing affects of colonialism and patriarchy in the islands of Grenada and Jamaica, respectively, shape the life narratives of Janie and May who express their anger, shame, fear, frustration (...)

    Existentialism: A Beauvoirean Lineage.Margaret A. Simons - 2012 - Journal of Speculative Philosophy 26 (2):261-267.
The posthumously published diaries and letters of Beauvoir and Sartre challenge the traditional account of Beauvoir as Sartre's philosophical follower. They show Sartre drawing on Beauvoir's account of relations with the Other in her metaphysical novel, She Came to Stay, as he began writing Being and Nothingness, and point to an unexplored Beauvoirean lineage of existentialism, including Bergson as well as Hegel, Kierkegaard, Husserl and Heidegger, and the African-American writer, Richard Wright.

On being categorized in the speech of others.Margaret P. Gilbert - manuscript
Some psychologists argue that in general we self-ascribe characteristics according to others' perceived reactions to us. In illustration michael argyle cites a case involving the self-Ascription of popularity. But popularity is what I here call a 'reaction-Determined characteristic, That is, A characteristic such that certain others' reacting to someone in a certain way is logically sufficient for his having it. The general import of cases involving such characteristics needs careful examination and I argue that in fact argyle's case does not (...)

Although the field of bioethics usually emphasizes ethical dilemmas arising from contemporary biomedical research, at another level the foundation of ethical judgments can be explored in the light of evolutionary biology. Two scientific approaches illuminate the relationships between human nature, social environments, and standards of ethical judgment: first, ethology and the observational study of nonhuman primates; second, evolutionary theory and new developments in the understanding of natural selection. Ethology shows that humans, like the species most closely related to us, are (...)
