Toward a More Democratic Ethic of Technological Governance.Andrew D. Zimmerman - 1995 - Science, Technology and Human Values 20 (1):86-107.
Recent scholarship in technology and society studies has given attention to the notion of technological citizenship. This article seeks to further integrate perspectives on this topic with theoretical contributions about the development of moral autonomy. The author challenges the presumption that the strategy of expanding opportunities for participation in technological decision making will in itself develop people's autonomy and citizenship. He argues that concurrent efforts must be made to democratize the political-economic structures of key technologies and to help people prepare (...)

Physical Education, Cognition and Agency.Andrew Reid - 2013 - Educational Philosophy and Theory 45 (9):921-933.
Traditional analytical philosophy of education assigns a peripheral place to physical education, partly because orthodox epistemology finds its cognitive claims implausible. An understandable but dubious response to this state of affairs is the attempt to relocate physical education within the academic curriculum, with its characteristic emphasis on theoretical knowledge and formal assessment. Dissatisfaction with this response suggests an analysis of physical activity in terms of practical knowledge or knowing how, but the results of this seem inconclusive. More recently, the development (...)

Methodological and Substantial Arguments Against “Conceptual Eurocentrism”.Andrew V. Paribok & Ruzana V. Pskhu - 2019 - Russian Journal of Philosophical Sciences 62 (6):54-69.
This paper summarized the basic results of the philosophical discussion that was held in the Institute of Philosophy of Russian Academy of Sciences on April 25, 2019. The authors had been the main opponents of Andrey Krushinskiy approach, according to which there are processes of monopolization of discourse domain by the European conceptual apparatus of philosophy in the contemporary Chinese philosophy. In other words, in opinion of Andrey Krushinskiy, this “conceptual Eurocentrism” is the future of every possible attempt of philosophizing (...)

Behind the masks of modernism: global and transnational perspectives.Andrew R. Reynolds & Bonnie Roos (eds.) - 2016 - Gainesville: University Press of Florida.
This book reconsiders the meaning of modernism across the globe, stretching beyond both the Western modernist canon and the literary-heavy scope of the field to a broader cultural consideration of global modernisms and modernity. Through the use of masks as a thematic focus, the volume challenges popular assumptions about what modernism looks like, what modernity is, and how each of these ideas are produced within a historical moment.

The substance of spacetime: infinity, nothingness, and the nature of matter.Andrew Martin Ryan - 2016 - Leesburg, Virginia: Gadfly. Edited by A. M. Ryan.
If spacetime does not exist, it does so in a very unusual way. It curves in response to massive objects. It warps in response to high velocities. The Substance of Spacetime treats spacetime, not merely as a geometric abstraction, but as a real physical substance, opening a window onto reality that would otherwise be impossible to even contemplate.

    Towards a new literary humanism.Andrew Mousley (ed.) - 2011 - New York: Palgrave-Macmillan.
Literature cultivates "deep selves" for whom books matter because they take over from religion fundamental questions about the meaning of existence. This volume embraces and questions this perspective, while also developing a "new humanist' critical vocabulary which specifies, and therefore opens to debate, the human significance of literature.

In a response to Pasic and Weiss, Natsios supports the authors' critique of the unintended political consequences of relief interventions but takes issue with their portrayal of the International Committee of the Red Cross, asserting that the authors misrepresent the doctrine of the ICRC.

Justice without Solidarity? Collective Identity and the Fate of the ‘Ethical’ in Habermas' Recent Political Theory.Andrew J. Pierce - 2018 - European Journal of Philosophy 26 (1):546-568.
In past work, Habermas has claimed that justice and solidarity stand in a complementary relationship—that ‘ethical’ relations of solidarity are the ‘reverse side’ of justice. Yet in a recent address to the World Congress of Philosophy, he rejects this idea. This paper argues against this rejection. After explaining the idea, arguing for its centrality to Habermas' thought, and evaluating Habermas' scant reflections on this major transformation, I argue that his rejection of the idea is a result of a newfound skepticism (...)

It’s the Conscience Collective, Stupid: Philosophical Aesthetics and the Sociology of Art.Andrew Milner - 2010 - Thesis Eleven 103 (1):26-34.
The article begins with a sociologically triumphalist critique of philosophical aesthetics, grounded in the work of Ernest Gellner and Emile Durkheim. It proceeds to note the practical failure of this kind of sociology to become institutionalized within the wider discipline. It explores a number of possible explanations for this failure, but finally suggests that a normalized sociology of art requires a normalized conception of art itself, such as that tentatively advanced by Pierre Bourdieu and Franco Moretti. The article also has (...)

    Four Seminars.Andrew J. Mitchell & François Raffoul (eds.) - 2012 - Indiana University Press.
In Four Seminars, Heidegger reviews the entire trajectory of his thought and offers unique perspectives on fundamental aspects of his work. First published in French in 1976, these seminars were translated into German with Heidegger’s approval and reissued in 1986 as part of his Gesamtausgabe, volume 15. Topics considered include the Greek understanding of presence, the ontological difference, the notion of system in German Idealism, the power of naming, the problem of technology, danger, and the event. Heidegger’s engagements with his (...)
