Hak San 鶴山 Yi Jeong-ho 李正浩 conceptualized and drew the “Hunminjeongeum-do” 訓民正音圖 (Diagram of Hunminjeongeum) using the basic initial consonants and 11 medial vowels of Hunminjeongeum 訓民正音 (It is the Korean alphabet, also called Hangeul). In the process, he added several strokes that were not part of the 28 letters of Hunminjeongeum to the “Hunminjeongeum-do” to emphasize the shapes of stars. This was intended to demonstrate the similarity between the “ Hunminjeongeum-do” and the “Jeongyeok Eight Trigrams Diagram” (正易八卦圖), thereby suggesting (...) that the Zhouyi 周易 philosophy embedded in the creation of Hunminjeongeum inherently contains the Jeongyeok 正易 (Correct Zhouyi) philosophy. Furthermore, he created the Celestial Diagram of Hunminjeongeum using the 28 Lunar Mansions of the ecliptic, which he referred to as the Jeongeum cheonmun-do 正音天文圖. In this diagram, he included the two central positions, elevated as the Emperor of Heaven and the Great Emperor, and applied a 30- day month calendar using all of these elements. In fact, it is based on the discussion in the Jeongyeok regarding the “Diagram of the 28 Lunar Mansions’ Energy Flow chart” (二十八宿運氣圖). The Jeongeum cheonmun-do can be found to contain similar concepts to those in the records of astronomical calendrical science from the Lüshi chunqiu 呂氏春秋, written during the Warring States period in China, and the “ Yaodian” 堯典 chapter of the Shujing 書經. Moreover, it is closely related to the circular diagram of the Fuxi 64 Hexagrams and also shares commonality with the star illustrations found in the Cheonsang yeolcha bunyajido 天象列次分 野之圖, a celestial map engraved in the early Joseon Dynasty. Haksan sought to demonstrate through the Jeongeum cheonmundo that ‘the intention of King Sejong, the Sage King, to illuminate the Heavenly Way and care for the affairs of the people upon his ascension to the throne is revealed in the creation of the miraculous letters Hunminjeongeum, and that the spirit of its creation embodies the Confucian concept of the Heavenly Way.’. 이 논문은 이황이 관심을 가졌던 미발론의 구조와 성격에 대해 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이황은 감정이 드러나기 이전인 인간 마음의 밑바탕으로서 존재하는 미발의 영역에 대해 관심을 갖는다. 여기서 말하는 미발의 영역이란 다름 아닌 마음이 외부 사물에 대해 반응하지 않는 지점을 말한다. 다시 말해 미발은 선험적으로 존재하는 영역인 셈이다. 이황은 마음의 상태를 ‘적연부동’과 ‘감이수통’이라는 구분으로 미발을 구획한다. 이것은 미발의 마음과 이발의 마음으로 구분해서, 인간이 도덕실천을 할 수 있는 계기로 삼고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 미발의 지각양태에 대한 이황의 입장은 ‘사려미맹’과 ‘지각불매’가 어느 정도 공존하고 (...) 있지만, ‘사려미맹’에 더 접근해 있다. 이것은 미발에서 ‘지각불매’가 가져올 수 있는 이발과의 경계 부분의 애매함을 떨쳐버리고자 하는 발상이다. 그리하여 미발시에는 ‘사려미맹’의 상태에 있음을 주장하여 의식의 흐름을 놓치지 않음을 보여준다. 인식의 과정과 지각의 주체 혹은 대상에 대해서도 이황은, 지각할 수 있는 것과 지각하는 바의 것, 곧 ‘능지각’과 ‘소지각’을 동시에 가지고 있음을 말한다. 이는 미발과 이발을 관통하여 리가 생동적으로 살아있음을 보여주는 장소가 마음이라는 것을 확인하고 나아가 인간의 선한 감정을 이발의 세계에서 구현하고자 하는 것이다. 韓儒 趙翼(浦渚: 1579-1655)은 17세기 한국 조선시대의 저명한 유학자이다. 그는 한국유학사에서 초기 양명학자의 한 사람으로 평가받고 있다. 이 논문은 조익의 수양론과 윤리관을 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 그는 수양의 요체를 居敬, 誠意, 去人欲 全天理로 보았는데, 이 세 개념은 상호 소통된다. 그 밖에도 操存, 持敬, 持守, 操守, 收斂, 整齊嚴肅, 內一外齊 등 다양한 수양법을 제시하였는데, 이들은 모두 敬으로 귀결된다. 또 誠意를 강조하여 ‘爲善去惡’, ‘毋自欺’ 등을 통해 개인의 수양을 말하였다. 그는 수기의 내용으로 ‘去人欲 全天理’를 말하는데, 이는 先儒들의 ‘存天理 遏人欲’을 계승한 것이다. 조익의 수기론이 居敬窮理 내지 格致誠正의 (...) 구조가 아니라, 居敬 내지 誠正 중심의 수기론을 전개함은 매우 특징적이다. 이런 점에서 양명학적 색채가 풍긴다. 조익은 道, 禮로서 윤리를 말하고 있는데, 이는 天理에 근본한 것으로 인간이 마땅히 행해야 할 당연한 이치다. 총론으로 말하면 道인데 그 가운데 持身, 接人의 節文, 度數를 禮라 하였다. 그러나 道와 禮는 통용되어 인간의 도리로서 윤리적 의미를 갖는다. 그는 윤리의 時中性을 중시하였다. 그런데 조익은 수기 주체로서 心을 중시하였다. 聖賢의 學은 그 마음을 다스림에 있으니, 私欲의 隱蔽를 제거해 天理의 公을 온전히 할 뿐이라 하고, 아울러 인간 주체의 心은 만사의 근본으로 一心이 바르면 萬事가 바르므로 개인의 수기나 정치에 있어서 立心을 중시하였다. 조익은 心을 思惟하고 知覺하는 活物로 규정하고, 知覺은 본래 선하다는 관점에서 心을 해석하였다. 이러한 知覺本善의 관점은 양명학적인 해석으로 그의 철학적 특성을 말해준다. 그는 五倫을 天理의 자연한 바라 하고, 이는 萬世에 바꿀 수 없는 것으로 중시하였는데, 특히 孝, 悌의 윤리를 강조하였다. 또한 그는 사회윤리로서 大公至正의 道를 제시하였다. 私欲이 아닌 道, 理, 公義에 기초한 治者의 心法을 강조하였다. 학문의 道는 그 私己의 欲을 버리고 義理의 公을 쫓을 뿐이라 하고, 治者의 公平正大한 心法이 정치, 행정의 제도를 통해 구현되어야 한다 하였다. 끝으로 그는 군자가 벼슬하는 목적은 먹기 위해 녹을 구함이 아니라 道를 실현함에 있다고 하였다. 아울러 행정의 존재이유가 民에 있다 하여, 愛民, 保民, 安民, 爲民의 윤리를 강조하였다. 결국 이러한 공직윤리는 公心으로서의 仁으로 귀결된다. 조익의 윤리사상이 비록 전통적인 유학에서 벗어나지 않지만, 修己的 주체로서의 心을 중시한다든지, 誠意, 居敬 중심의 수기론을 전개하고 있다는 점은 특징적이다. 다만 그의 수기론과 윤리사상에 내재한 心學的 경향에 대한 성리학적, 양명학적 구분과 辨別은 향후 중요한 과제로 남는다. 本論文探究李珥的理氣心性論與修養工夫：第一，李珥的理氣論建立在理氣的相互規定之上，以「理氣之妙」、「氣發理乘」、「理通氣局」三個結構來展開，而使李珥的哲學體系呈現一以貫之的整體性、有序性、邏輯性；第二 ，李珥的心性論是根據理氣論來探究人的本質與相關問題。他用「心性情意一路說」來重新解釋「氣質之性本然之性」、「人心道心」、「四端七情」等課題，也展開了自己獨有的人觀；第三，李珥的修養工夫是其哲學最重要的 目標，他以理氣論與心性論為基 礎，培養人具備修養品格的能力，以實現人的道德價值。.

이 글에서는 이황철학에 있어 중요한 사상인 ‘리발’ ‘미발’의 문제를 현실적 원인에서 비롯됨을 살펴보았다. 현실적 원인이란 다름 아닌 16세기 조선이 처한 시대적 상황을 말한다. 즉 이황 생애의 중반기까지 드리운 일련의 ‘사건(사화)’을 들 수 있다. 이러한 사건은 철학자 이황으로 하여금 15세기를 넘어 16세기라는 전환시대의 논리를 도출하게 하는 원인이기도 하다. 새로운 16세기를 열기위해서는 주희 성리학으로는 무력하기만 하고 답답하기만 하였다. 그리하여 이황은 성리학(전승)이라는 과거와 16세기 조선이라는 현실의 통일(융합)을 어떻게 창출할 수 있을까라는 질문 속에서 해결책을 모색하였던 것이다. 이황 철학의 핵심으로 자리 잡은 사칠론을 이황의 입장에서 (...) 보면 시시각각 변화무쌍한 현실의 악을 종교적 차원으로 까지 밀고 가서라도 해결하고자 하는 반면, 기대승은 현실사태에 다소 느긋한 방법으로 다가서고 있다. 이것은 결과적으로, 이황은 현실을 부정적인 측면에서 바라본다면, 기대승은 현실을 낙관하는 인간적인 측면에서 사태를 해결하고자 하는 것이다. 또한 이황은 인간은 누구나 본연지성을 가지고 있다는 평등주의(보편주의)에 입각한 입장이라면, 기대승은 사람의 기질에 따라 선할 수도 있고, 악할 수도 있다는 차별적인(상대적인) 견해를 피력한다. 이황은 끝내 선한 정인 사단과 악하거나 악하게 될 가능성이 많은 정인 칠정을 구분하고, 사단은 인간 안에 있는 본성인 리가 그대로 발한 것이라는 리발설을 고수한다. 이것은 정이 드러나기 이전인 인간 마음의 밑바탕으로서 미발의 영역에 대해 이황이 불변의 믿음을 가지고 있기에 가능한 것이다. 이황은 인간의 감정을 제대로 다스리지 못한다면 또다시 거대 악은 존재할 것이고 역사는 다시 후퇴할 것이기에, 순수한 인간의 본성이 그대로 마음의 작용으로 나타나기를 소망했던 것이다. 이 논문은『주역』 「계사전」의 ‘生生之謂易’의 문구를 토대로 ‘生生’의 의미와 구조, 儒家에서의 ‘생생’의 목표를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지금까지의 연구가 ‘생생’의 의미를 너무『주역』의 보편적 문화가치인 ‘우주 생명의 보편적 순환과 연속’이라는 측면에만 치우쳐 다루다 보니 조화와 균형의 의미로만 해석하였다. 따라서 이 논문은『주역』에서 강조하는 사물의 생성ㆍ변화ㆍ발전ㆍ소멸이라는 과정 중 대립과 소멸이 또 다른 생성ㆍ성장을 가능케 하는 중요한 순환의 고리가 된다는 점에 주목하여, ‘죽음’이 ‘삶’의 완성이 될 수 있는 근거를 살펴본다. 즉 ‘생생’이 소멸/생성, 음/양, 죽음/삶, 땅/하늘, 달/해, 여자/남자 등등 ‘대립을 통한 생성과 조화’를 특징으로 하는 변증법적 (...) 구조로 이루어졌다는 분석을 통해 ‘생생’에 ‘死生’의 계기가 있음을 밝힌다. 지금은 ‘잘 죽는 것’과 관련해 죽음학이 학문적으로 논의되고는 있지만, 그래도 아직까지 특정신앙이 없다면 일반적으로 죽음에 대해 말하는 것은 일종의 금기 또는 삶에 대한 모독으로 여겨지기 십상이다. 이런 이유가 특히 유가적 전통에서 죽음을 기피하고 삶을 중시했던 태도와 무관하지 않다고 말한다. 그러나 이것은 지나친 오해이다. 유가는 죽음을 기피했던 것이 아니라 오히려 삶이 날마다 새로워져 완성되는 계기 속에서 죽음을 열린 관점으로 봤던 것이다. 유가의 사생관은 살아있어도 죽은 삶[의미 없는 삶]이 되지 않도록 하는 것, 다시 말해 제대로 된 삶을 사는 것을 강조한다. 고대 유가 지식인들의 영원과 불멸에 대한 바람은 ‘생생’의 개념 속에 집약되어 있다. 여기서 말하는 영원과 불멸의 바람은 육체적 생명의 연속이 아닌 지성적 삶을 통한 정신적 가치의 영원을 의미한다. 즉 유가는 죽음을 마지막 성장과 영원의 계기로 봤다. 따라서 ‘죽음’이 죽음을 맞이하는 자의 마지막 성장이 된다는 점에서 ‘생생’의 의미 속에 ‘사생’의 의미를 포함하고 있는 것이다. 진리는 본래 변증법적 사고의 소산이므로, 삶과 죽음에 대한 진리 탐구도 마찬가지로 변증법적이다. 삶의 측면에서 죽음을 묻고 조망하고, 죽음의 측면에서 삶의 의미를 묻고 반성을 해야만 삶과 죽음이 모두 유의미한 것으로 인간에게 다가오게 되는 것이다. 죽음의 의미는 죽음 자체만을 이야기해서는 절대 밝혀질 수 없다. 왜냐하면 존재론적으로 죽음은 삶과 궤를 같이 하기 때문이다. 흔히 삶과 죽음이 서로 닮았다고 하는 맥락에서 죽음이 삶의 거울이라고 말하곤 한다. 따라서 죽음의 의미는 삶을 함께 이야기함으로써 드러나고, 또 삶의 소중함을 동시에 이끌어 내는 점에서 의미를 지닌다. 조선후기 일군의 학자들은 도가철학을 인식의 틀로 활용하여 서양과학을 수용하고 이해하였다. 사실 도가의 기철학은 동양의 전통 과학과 천문학이 형성ㆍ발전하는 과정에서 사상적 원류로 기능하여 왔으며, 서양과학 수용과정에서 서양과학에 상응하는 학문으로 인식되었다. 대표적으로 조선후기 이익의 우주론과 서명응의 선천역학, 홍대용의 과학적 세계관은 도가의 기철학을 인식 기반으로 자연 세계에 대한 인식 전환을 시도한 사례들이다. 그리고 자연에 대한 이들의 인식 전환은 현실질서의 변화에 대한 요구로 이어졌다. 특히 성리학적 도덕원리와 도가의 기철학이 절충된 형태인 이익의 우주론에서 서양의 천문과학은 기철학의 주요 개념에 대응하여 설명되어졌다. 이와 같은 이익의 우주론은 과학의 (...) 영역뿐만 아니라 사회, 정치의 측면에도 영향을 미쳤다. 즉 그는 중화의 위상을 보편적인 것으로 인정하면서도, 조선의 상대주의적 주체성을 주장하였다. 그리고 정치에서는 객관적 황로정치의 도입을 주장하는 법치주의적 정치사상을 논의하였다. 도가철학은 서양과학을 이해하는 해석의 틀로서만 기능한 것이 아니라 실학에도 중대한 영향을 미쳤다. 도가 기철학은 탈이념적이고 실증적인 사유에, 인식 상대주의는 탈중화주의와 주체성의 자각에 기여하였다. 홍대용과 북학파의 실학은 이러한 도가철학의 영향을 가장 많이 받은 것이다. 이 글은 19세기 조선 성리학자 가운데 주자학 수정의 입장을 극명하게 드러내어 리(理)를 통한 심(心)의 주재성(主宰性)을 보다 강력하게 주장하기 위한 방편으로 당시 많은 논란을 일으켰던 ‘심즉리(心卽理)’의 인식방법 및 리기삼간(理氣三看)에 따른 이진상의 주리론적(主理論的) 立論(입론)에 대한 문제 중심이 어디에 있었는지를 究明하려는 시도이다. 이진상은 이황의 主理說(주리설)을 계승하면서도 리의 이중성, 즉 절대리(絶對理)와 상대리(相對理)의 인식에서 벗어나 리의 절대성(絶對性)과 구극성(究極性)이 강조되는 리일원(理一元)의 존재론적 경향의 특색을 보인다. 그 결과 주리의 개념을 한층 더 강화하여 ‘리발일로(理發一路)’의 이채로운 주장을 하게 된다. 아울러 논의가 진행되는 동안 이진상의 학설을 필요에 따라 기호학파의 이론과 (...) 비교․검토하였으며, 이러한 과정을 통하여 한주 성리설의 성격이 더욱 선명하게 드러나게 되었다. 또한 논자는 이진상의 ‘심즉리’ 이론에 대한 문제 중심이 어디에 있었는지 살펴보았는데, 그가 이러한 주장을 펼치게 된 궁극적 의도는 리의 주재(主宰)를 통한 心의 주재성을 보다 강력히 주장하기 위한 것이었다. 그 결과 이진상은 성리설(性理說)을 연구하는 과정에서 기존에 사용되었던 리기에 대한 인식론을 정리하고 발전시켜 성리설 전반을 회통할 수 있는 논리의 틀로 완성 시킨다. 이것이 수간(竪看)․횡간(橫看)․도간(倒看)의 세 간법(看法)과 순추(順推)․역추(逆推)의 두 추론법이라 할 수 있는데, 이러한 리기의 독특한 인식방법을 통하여 입론한 것이 그의 주리적 ‘심즉리’ 이론이다. 이렇게 이진상은 주리론적 리일원론(理一元論)의 맥락에서 횡간, 수간, 도간 이라는 三看의 인식방법을 통하여, 리기호발설(理氣互發說)을 주리와 주기로 이해하여, 수간의 인식방법이 옳다 하고, 율곡의 기발리승일도설(氣發理乘一途說)은 도간에 의한 인식 방법으로 옳지 못한 것이라 하여, 수간의 인식 방법에 따라 독창적인 견해를 펼쳐 나간다. 결국 이진상은 그의 ‘심즉리설’로 인해 퇴계학파 내에서 이단(異端)으로 규정되기도 했지만, 이것 역시 이황 주리론의 강화 측면 이라는 변용적(變容的) 형태라고 볼 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 까닭으로 본 논문에서는 이진상의 이론은 이황 주리론의 단순한 계승이 아니라, 이를 기반으로 하면서 주리의 극단화를 추구하였다는 점에서 그의 독창의 일면을 이해 할 수 있다는 것에 중점을 두고 전개되었다. 서한 초기는 황노사상에 기인한 방임정책 때문에 좋지 않은 풍속의 만연을 더욱 심화시켰을 뿐만 아니라 통치계층 가운데 제후들의 월권행위를 한층 더 넓게 유포시키는 상황을 유발했다. 가의는 이러한 폐단들의 원인을 ‘리’의 원리가 무너지게 된 데에 있다고 보았다. 또한 가의는 ‘리’의 존재는 반드시 ‘예치’에 의해서 만이 완성될 수 있는 것으로 보아서, 오직 ‘예’가 있어야 만이 정치와 사회 및 경제적 문제 등의 각 분야의 불안정한 상태를 해소할 수 있다고 생각했다. 가의는 ‘예’에 의해서 비로소 삶과 사람 사이의 합리적인 관계가 수립되고 사회질서가 바로 잡히고 유지 되어 (...) 합리적인 사회를 건설할 수 있게 된다고 주장했다. 가의의 ‘예’에 대한 사상은 오공의 가르침에서 비롯되며, 오공은 이사에게 학문을 배웠으며, 또한 이사는 순자로부터 배웠다. 이렇게 볼 때 가의의 사상은 순자와 이사의 사상이 간접적으로 영향을 끼쳤다고 할 수 있다. 그렇기 때문에 가의의 예론사상은 많은 부분에 있어서 순자의 예론사상을 계승함과 동시에 그것의 외연을 확대하여 이론적 발전을 이룩한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 가의는 ‘예’를 통하여 새로운 국가질서의 창조를 염원했으며, 이러한 새로운 이념체계는 당시 모든 구성원이 준수하였던 규범이 되었던 것이다. 이황과 이이의 성리학에 대한 기존의 연구는 주로 이론의 논리적 정합성 여부를 판단하고 또한 이론상의 차이점을 설명하는데 주안점을 둔 측면이 강하다. 그 결과 그들은 한국 성리학사에서 대립과 갈등을 상징하는 대표적인 인물로 손꼽힌다. 그들이 서로 다른 성리학 체계를 형성하는 가장 큰 이유는 리기(理氣) 개념의 이해와 상호 기능에 대한 해석의 차이 때문이다. 아울러 그들이 경험한 시대상황과도 직접적인 연관이 있다. 이러한 종합적인 요인들로 인해 그들은 서로 다른 성리학 체계를 형성하게 되는 것이다. 그 대표적인 예가 사단칠정의 리기론적(理氣論的) 해석인데, 이황은 ‘리기호발(理氣互發)’을, 이이는 ‘기발리승(氣發理乘)’을 주장한다. 그리고 그들의 (...) 의견에 동조하는 이들이 논쟁에 가담 하면서 길고 긴 대립이 시작된다. 하지만 길게 이어질 것만 같던 대립도 결국 최종목표에서는 합의를 이룬다. 그들이 지향하는 것은 일신(一身)을 주재하는 마음을 잘 다스려 성인에 도달하는 것이다. 그리고 성인에 도달하기 위한 방법으로 그들 공히 ‘경(敬)’과 ‘성(誠)’을 제시함으로써 합의를 이룰 수 있는 계기를 마련한다. 따라서 필자는 이황과 이이 성리학을 중심으로 그들의 대립과 갈등의 원인, 그리고 대립을 종식하고 합의를 이루는 일련을 과정을 살펴봄으로써, 경(敬), 성(誠)의 마음수양을 통한 성인지향이 그들 성리학의 대립을 극복할 수 있는 계기를 마련하고 있음을 살펴보려 한다. 결국 필자의 본 논문은 이황과 이이 성리학의 정합성을 묻고자 하는 것이 아니라 그들 성리학의 차이 극복을 위해 새로운 방안을 모색하려는 것이다. Hz. Peygamber’in (a.s) vefatından sonra İslam ümmetinin yüzleştiği en önemli ve etkisi hala devam eden sorunu hilâfettir. Tarihsel süreçte Şia, hilâfet/imâmeti iman konusu yaparak meseleyi daha girift bir hale sokmuştur. Şia’ya göre Hz. Ali’nin hilâfeti nass ile tayin edilmiş bir olgudur ve bunu teyit eden onlarca âyet vardır. Hassaten İmamiyye Şia’sı, Hz. Peygamber’den (a.s) sonra hilâfetin Hz. Ali’nin hakkı olduğunu savunmakla yetinmemiş, Kur’ân’ın birçok âyetini hilâfete ve Hz. Ali’ye inhisar ettirmek gibi bir zorlama te’vile girişmiştir. Bu bağlamda Hz. Peygamber’i (a.s) (...) ve ashabı da zan altında bırakacak yorumlar yapmıştır. Sünnî müfessirler ise hilâfetin herhangi bir âyet yahut hadis ile tayin edilmediğini söylemiş ve Hz. Ali’ye münhasır olduğu şeklinde yorumlanan çoğu âyetin Hz. Ali’ye tahsisle tahdit edilmesini eleştirmiştir. Mamafih, tarihsel vakıanın Hz. Ebû Bekir’in hilâfetinin haklılığını gösterdiğini söylemişlerdir. Hz. Ebû Bekir Hz. Peygamber (a.s) hayatta iken ashaba imamlık yapmış, Hz. Ömer de bu hakikat ile istişhad edip onun hilâfete liyakatini vurgulamıştır. Sünnî müfessirler zikredilen hususların yanı sıra Hz. Ebû Bekir’i tafdil eden âyetler olmasına rağmen Şia’nın onu ve ashabı tahkir ve hatta tekfir etmesini tenkit etmişlerdir. Bu makale, mezkûr olguları tavzih etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Sünnî müfessirlerin söylemlerinin tarihsel vakıa ve sahih rivâyetler ile mutabık olup olmadığı; Şia’nın mezhep taassubu ile bazı âyetleri anlam dünyasının dışına çıkarmaya çalıştığı ve Hz. 19. yüzyıl, Avrupa’da siyasi, sosyal ve ekonomik açıdan önemli değişikliklerin meydana geldiği bir dönemdir. Bu dönemde, bir taraftan mevcut düzenin değişmesine yönelik devrimci, özgürlükçü ve milliyetçi girişimler gerçekleşirken diğer taraftan dünyayı ve varlıkları anlamada daha önce var olan dinî bakış açısına alternatif olarak seküler bir bakış açısı gelişmiştir. Doğayı ve canlıları, akıl ve bilim yoluyla değerlendiren bu yeni bakış açısı, önce ırk teorilerini, ardından bilimsel ırkçılığı ve nihayetinde antisemitizmi ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu dönemde Avrupa, eski ile yeni karşıtlığına dayalı bir düzen (...) problemiyle karşılaşmıştır. Avrupa’daki yeni gelişmeler karşısında mevcut düzeni koruma taraftarı olanlar, antisemitizmi bir araç olarak kullanmıştır. Bu yaklaşım tarzı bir süre sonra Rusya’ya taşınmıştır. Çok sayıda Yahudi’ye ev sahipliği yapan, siyasi, sosyal ve ekonomik problemler yaşayan Rusya, Avrupalılarla benzer bir yöntem izleyerek antisemitizmi araçsallaştırmış ve bir propaganda metni olan Siyon Liderlerinin Protokolleri’ni üretmiştir. Bu girişim gerçekleştirilirken daha önce Avrupa’da yaygınlaşmış olan Yahudi komplosu literatüründen faydalanılmıştır. Yahudilerin Yahudi olmayanlara düzenlendikleri bir komplo olarak sunulan Siyon Liderlerinin Protokolleri, dünyadaki en önemli ve en popüler antisemit propaganda metnidir. Onun bu önemi ve popülerliği, doğru zamanda ve etkili yöntemlerle sunulmasından kaynaklanmaktadır. Toplumsal bunalımların yaşandığı sıralarda korku psikolojisi üzerinden yaygınlaştırılan Protokoller, bu yöntem sayesinde pek çok insan tarafından gerçek bir metin olarak algılanmış ve onların Yahudilere yönelik bakış açısını yönlendirmiştir. Protokoller, Rusya’da monarşi karşıtlarını bastırmak ve Çar rejimini devam ettirmek amacıyla kullanılmıştır. Ancak monarşinin Bolşevikler tarafından yıkılması ve Çarın ailesiyle birlikte öldürülmesi, ABD ve Avrupa’da Bolşevizm korkusu oluşturmuş, bu korku Protokollerin bu bölgelerde yaygınlaşmasına neden olmuştur. Protokoller, ABD ve Avrupa’dan sonra hatalı bir yaklaşımın sonucunda Türkiye’de de ortaya çıkmıştır. Türkiye’nin Yahudilere yönelik yaklaşımı bu ülkelerden farklı olsa da antisemitizmin ve Protokollerin sahip olduğu anlamların kavranamaması, Türkiye’yi de haksız bir şekilde onlarla aynı kategoriye yerleştirmiştir. Türkiye’nin böyle bir kategoriye yerleştirilmesi, onun Yahudilere yönelik hoşgörülü tavrının antisemitizmin gölgesine düşmesine neden olmuştur. Bu çalışmada, Rusya’da Siyon Liderlerinin Protokolleri’ne neden ihtiyaç duyulduğu, nasıl ortaya çıktığı, içeriğinin ne olduğu, nerelerde yaygınlaştığı ve Türkiye’de hangi hataların sonucunda ortaya çıktığı sorularına cevap verilmiştir. Bu sorulara cevap verilirken Protokollerin anlamı, kapsamı ve sonuçlarının Türkiye’nin dışında olduğu, Türkiye’de bu metne ihtiyaç olmadığı ve Yahudilere yönelik eleştirilerde bu metinden kaçınılması gerektiği üzerinde durulmuş, Türk-Yahudi ilişkilerinin antisemitizminden farklı olan boyutuna dikkat çekilmek amaçlanmıştır. İslam tarihinde Müslüman topluluk içinde ilk fikrî ve fiilî anlaşmazlıklar Hz. Peygamberin (s.a.v.) vefatının ardından başlamış daha sonra Hz. Osman ve ardından Hz. Ali döneminde olayların büyümesiyle Hâricîlik mezhebi tarih sahnesine çıkmıştır. Sıffîn savaşını bitirmeyi ve Müslümanlar arasında barışı temin etmeyi hedefleyen Tahkîm olayı başka bir ayrılıkla neticelenmiş, Kur’ân’ı-Kerîm’in hükümlerine uyulmadığı gerekçesiyle Müslüman topluluktan büyük bir grup ayrılarak Nehrevan’a çekilmiştir. Çoğu taşradan gelmiş, eğitim seviyesi düşük askerlerinden oluşan ve daha sonra Hâricîler diye isimlendirilen bu grup, kendi içlerinde de anlaşamamış pek (...) çoğu aşırılık yanlısı bir tavırla Emevî ve Abbasî Devletleri döneminde isyan etmiş ve muhtelif şiddet olaylarına karışmıştır. Hicrî üçüncü asrın sonlarında İbâdiyye hariç, başta Ezârika olmak üzere aşırılığa meyleden veya şiddete başvuran Hâricî gruplar dağılıp yok olmuştur. Hâricî kitleler içerisinde ortaya çıkmış olan İbâdiyye kendi dönüşümünü sağlayarak ve hatta fikir ve yöntemlerindeki yumuşaklık sebebiyle halktan gerekli desteği alarak bir yandan Kuzey Afrika’da 132 yıl hüküm süren Rüstemîler Devletini kurarken diğer yandan da fikrî bünyesini inşa etmiştir. Günümüzde Kuzey Afrika, Umman ve Zanzibar’da yedi milyona yakın nüfusa sahip olan bu mezhep pek çok açıdan etüt edilmeyi hak eden bir topluluk ve bir fikir akımıdır. İbâdiyye, hicrî ikinci asra dayanan yazılı eserleri ve yüzyıllarca biriktirdiği deneyimi ile İslam dininin inanç, davranış ve siyaset esaslarının tedvini için sosyo-politik zeminin anlaşılmasında değerli verilere sahiptir. Öte yandan mezhebin her açıdan objektif olarak ele alındığını söylemek mümkün görünmemektedir. Hicrî üçüncü asrın sonlarından itibaren yazılan fırak ve makālât türü eserlerde çeşitli gerekçelerle Hâricîlik için kullanılan pek çok yerici ifade, aidiyeti iyice araştırılmadan İbâdiyye’yi teşmil edecek şekilde kullanılmıştır ve halen de kullanılmaya devam etmektedir. Burada asıl dikkat edilmesi gereken önemli bir husus, ehl-i biꜤdat yahut ehl-i küfre ait olduğu değerlendirilen pek çok şahıs, düşünce veya ekolün ilmi açıdan tevsiki yapılmadan İbâdiyye’ye nispet edilmiş olabileceğidir. Bu makalede İbâdiyye’nin tarihi derinliklerine inilerek hem inanç sahasına yeni birtakım fikir veya tespitleri kazandırmak hem de mezhebin doğru bir şekilde anlaşılmasına katkı sunmak için İbâdiyye’ye nispet edilen bazı fikir, şahıs yahut alt grupların durumu ele alınmıştır. Bu amaçla temel fırak ve makālât eserleri, İbâdiyye’nin muteber klasik ve çağdaş kaynaklarıyla mukayeseli olarak kullanılmış ve İbâdiyye’ye nispeti tartışmalı olan alt grupların mezhebe aidiyeti tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. 신유학의 계보를 제시한 기존 학설 중 현재 연구자들에게 가장 많은 지지를 받고 있는 것은 ‘리학(理學)⋅심학(心學)⋅기학(氣學)’으로 학파를 크게 구분한 3파설이다. 이 연구에서는, 신유학 3파의 이름이 어떤 오해와 문제를 불러일으키는지 확인하고, 대안을 모색하였다. 신유학 3파설에서는 리⋅심⋅기 등 특정 개념을 중심으로 각 학파에 이름을 붙였으며, 이 개념들이 각 학파가 세계를 설명하는 데에 근본이 된다고 봄으로써, 존재론 또는 이기론의 측면에서 학파의 단면을 포착하려 했다. 반면 필자는 단일한 개념보다는 각 학파의 주장을 담은 핵심 명제를, 특히 이기론보다는 심성론의 명제를 반영하여 3파의 이름을 붙인다면, 여러 학파의 이론적 (...) 특징과 차이를 더 선명하게 드러낼 수 있을 것이라고 보았다. 이 점에서 조선 말의 유학자 이진상(李震相; 1818∼1886)의 통찰을 원용하여, ‘리학⋅심학⋅기학’을 각각 ‘심리기학(心理氣學)⋅심리학(心理學)⋅심기학(心氣學)’이라고 부르는 것이 하나의 대안이 될 수 있을 것이다. Based on a close study of benchmark examples in default reasoning, such as Nixon Diamond, Penguin Principle, etc., this paper provides an in depth analysis of the basic features of default reasoning. We formalize default inferences based on Modus Ponens for Default Implication, and mark the distinction between "local inferences"(to infer a conclusion from a subset of given premises) and "global inferences"(to infer a conclusion from the entire set of given premises). These conceptual analyses are captured by a formal semantics (...) that is built upon the set-selection function technique. A minimal logic system M of default reasoning that accommodates Modus Ponens for Default Implication and suitable for local inferences is proposed, and its soundness is proved. (shrink)

Three methods for ethics instruction are used in Taiwanese military education: the ‘bag-of-virtues’, value-clarification and virtue-ethics methods. This article explains, analyzes and discusses each of these, thereby giving an introduction to how military ethics is taught – and thought of – within the Taiwanese military system. Recommendations are given for how to improve the parts of the system that do not seem to live up to the stated intentions.

We posit a key goal of firms’ corporate social responsibility efforts is to influence reputation through carefully crafted communicative practices. This trend has accelerated with the rise of social media such as Twitter and Facebook, which are essentially public message networks that organizations are leveraging to engage with concerned audiences. Given the large number of messages sent on these sites, only some will be effective and achieve broad public resonance. Building on signaling theory, this paper asks whether and how messages (...) conveying CSR-related topics resonate with the public and, if so, which CSR topics and signal qualities are most effective. We test our hypotheses using data on public reactions to Fortune 500 companies’ CSR-focused Twitter feeds, using the retweeting of firms’ messages as a proxy for public resonance. We find resonance is positively associated with messages that convey CSR topics such as the environment or education, those that make the topic explicit through use of hashtags, and those that tap into existing social movement discussions. The article focuses on the analysis of curriculum documents from Taiwan to investigate how benchmarks for learning nature of science are positioned in different versions of the science curricula. Following a review of different approaches to the conceptualization of NOS and the role of NOS in promoting scientific literacy, an empirical study is reported to illustrate how the science curriculum documents represent different aspects of NOS. The article uses the family resemblance approach as the account of NOS and adapts it (...) for analysis of the curriculum documents. The FRA defines NOS as cognitive-epistemic and social-institutional systems that serve as constructs of knowledge categories with a high level of interconnectedness. The FRA was used as an analytical tool for investigating two sets of Taiwanese curriculum guidelines published 10 years apart, providing an opportunity to discuss how NOS is addressed in the curriculum reforms. The findings show a shift away from the excessive centralization of the cognitive-epistemic system to a consideration of the social-institutional system. Modifications to the benchmarks are proposed in order to achieve a more holistic and progressive approach to NOS. The article contributes to studies on NOS in science education by illustrating how the FRA can act as a tool for exploring interconnectedness of NOS ideas in the curriculum. (shrink)

Nominalism about attributes has serious difficulties in accounting for truths involving abstract nouns. Prominent among such truths are statements of comparative similarity among attributes. This paper argues that one cannot account for the truth of such statements without invoking attributes.

In this article, we contribute to sociological literatures on morality, professional and institutional contexts, and morally stigmatized ‘dirty work’ by emphasizing and exploring how they mutually inform one another in lawyers’ work activities. Drawing on interview data with 58 practitioners in the commercial legal industry in Singapore, we analyze how they experience professional and institutional constraints on the expressions of morality in their work. Our findings illustrate how a dominant managerial and economic focus maintains and reproduces a constrained form of (...) morality, limited to instrumental, utilitarian and commercial ends, and subordinated to lucrative client and firm interests. We discuss our findings in terms of the need to research and reform professions in ways that support more rounded and unconstrained moral reflexivity and autonomy in how work is undertaken and valued. This in turn has implications for how organizations and professions might achieve alternative moral institutional orders, and for legal work to avoid the moral and social taints of dirty work. Although the relationship between stressors and thriving at work has been established, the linkage between them is still in the early stages of theory development. This study proposed a two-path model, based on Lepine’s stressors-performance model, to analyze the effects of the stressors on the thriving at work. Two complementary mediating paths were proposed, i.e., affective strain (positive affect) and motivation (self-efficacy), which were explained using affective events theory and expectancy theory, respectively. Based on the empirical data from 233 employees, (...) the results show that challenge stressors could enhance employees’ positive affect and self-efficacy, thus leading to thriving at work; on the contrary, hindrance stressors would result in negative influences. In addition, it is also found that the effect of affective path tend to be greater than that of motivation path, which could provide a practical guide for organizations to effectively apply stress management and to promote employees thriving at work. In response to numerous recent cases involving materially misstated financial information arising from fraudulent financial reporting, companies, auditors, and academics have increased their focus on strengthening internal controls as a means of deterring such unethical behaviors. However, prior research suggests that stronger controls may actually exacerbate the very opportunistic behavior the controls are intended to curb. The current study investigates whether the efficacy of an implemented control is conditioned on not only the strength of the control, but also on how (...) the firm frames the purpose for implementing the control. A monitoring purpose frames controls as reducing managers’ opportunities to engage in self-interested behavior, while a coordinating purpose frames controls as facilitating coordination between the firm and its managers. We posit that the efficacy of stronger controls to reduce unethical fraudulent reporting depends on the control frame. Using an experiment, this study investigates the interactive effect of control strength and control frame on managers’ fraudulent reporting decisions. As predicted, our results show that when controls are framed for monitoring purposes, stronger controls result in less fraudulent reporting than weaker controls. Conversely, when controls are framed for coordinating purposes, stronger controls result in more fraudulent reporting than weaker controls. Our results suggest that an inconsistency between the firm’s choice of the control strength and the control frame reduces the efficacy of the implemented control to curb unethical reporting behaviors. Furthermore, supplemental analysis shows that managers’ rationalization helps explain the interactive effect of control strength and communicated control purpose on fraudulent reporting. (shrink)

This study examines the degree of state ownership on corporate bribery. Integrating the theories of state ownership and corporate corruption, we propose that state ownership influences bribery propensity and bribery intensity in different ways; it lowers a firm’s tendency to pay bribes but increases the relative amount of bribery payment. Building on the control rights/bargaining hypotheses, we demonstrate that state ownership shields firms from bribery demands by reducing administrative hurdles that include bureaucratic requirements of obtaining licenses or settling taxes in (...) business operations. However, state ownership elevates the level of bribes by weakening their capital mobility. Using a sample of 23,018 firms from 54 countries covering 2006 to 2013, we find evidence to support our hypotheses. This article contributes to corruption research by drawing attention to an important channel of corruption and by highlighting the importance of considering not only the propensity but also the intensity of bribe payments.
