Die Geschichte der internationalen Beziehungen gehort derzeit zu den dynamischsten und innovativsten Feldern der deutschen Geschichtswissenschaft. Eine historische Teildisziplin, die lange Zeit als eher traditionell und konservativ galt, erweitert und erneuert sich. Diesen Prozess dokumentieren die Beitrage des vorliegenden Bandes. Sie leisten eine Bestandsaufnahme, entwickeln Perspektiven und reflektieren so die ganze Bandbreite einer modernen Geschichte der internationalen Beziehungen. Het christendom zit in de verdrukking. De kerken lopen leeg. Wie leest er nog de Bijbel? Toch is er in deze verweesde postmoderne samenleving een grote hang naar zingeving. Velen zoeken het ver weg, in bijvoorbeeld het boeddhisme of zij kiezen voor zweverige esoterie. In 2018 wandelde God het leven van Lawrence Urbain binnen. De grote levensvragen kwamen op de voorgrond en de auteur van 'Tussen Hoop en Genade' zocht de antwoorden in het christendom, meer bepaald bij het protestantisme. 'Tussen (...) Hoop en Genade' bevat een verzameling essays over het christelijke geloof. Hoe verhoudt de christenheid zich tot de wetenschap? Bestaat er zoiets als een christelijke ethiek? En wat is de toekomst van het protestants-evangelisch onderwijs in Vlaanderen? Aan de hand van zeven essays geeft de auteur een inkijk in zijn opvattingen aangaande het christelijk-protestantse geloof. Tal van denkers en schrijvers passeren hierbij de revue. Veel aandacht gaat naar de protestantse theoloog Karl Barth, maar evenzeer komen de antieke bijbelwetenschapper Origenes, de liberale protestant Friedrich Schleiermacher en de psychoanalyticus Carl Gustav Jung voorbij. Lawrence Urbain (°1990) is Master in de Internationale Betrekkingen en Diplomatie (Universiteit Antwerpen). Hij is werkzaam als economisch adviseur en is daarnaast freelance-journalist. Die Globalisierung in ökonomischer und politischer sowie in kultureller und sozialer Hinsicht rückt das Thema internationale Gerechtigkeit immer stärker in den Fokus. Letztlich geht es um die Frage moralischen Handelns auf globaler Ebene, um eine globale Praxis, die prinzipiell für alle gerecht ist. Ausgangspunkt der Debatte ist dabei die Frage nach der Verallgemeinerbarkeit grundlegender Prinzipien sozialer Gerechtigkeit, die zumindest innerhalb demokratischer Nationalstaaten gelten: Inwieweit kann der Anwendungsbereich innerstaatlicher Prinzipien sozialer Gerechtigkeit global ausgedehnt werden? Internationale vergelijkingen vormen een waardvolle bron van inzicht bij het analyseren van maatschappelijke problemen en het beoordelen van beleidsmatige antwoorden op die problemen. Vergelijkend onderzoek levert vaak interessante of nuttige informatie op doordat er verschillen én overeenkomsten worden geconstrueerd, bijvoorbeeld: hoe ‘leefbaar’ is Toronto vergeleken met Berlijn? Zelfs wanneer de definities verschillen en de gebruikte meeteenheden enigszins onnauwkeurig kunnen zijn – bijvoorbeeld “leefbaar voor wie en ten opzichte van wat?” – zijn vergelijkingen leerrijk en aanleiding voor verdere reflectie. Jede Herrschaftsordnung bedarf der Legitimation. Das Werk befasst sich mit der Legitimation derjenigen Instrumente internationaler Institutionen, die nicht zum verbindlichen Völkerrecht gehören, deren Anzahl und Bedeutung mit der Globalisierung massiv angestiegen sind. Dazu zählen das Soft Law, aber auch Informationsakte wie Indikatoren oder Indizes. Legitimationsbedürftig, so die These, sind neben dem verbindlichen Völkerrecht alle Akte, die als "internationale öffentliche Gewalt" einzustufen sind. Dieser Begriff wird auf Grundlage der Diskurstheorie von Jürgen Habermas konzipiert, die dazu in einigen Punkten fortzuentwickeln ist. (...) Das Werk entwirft sodann eine Handlungsformenlehre, mit der sich der abstrakte Begriff der internationalen öffentlichen Gewalt auf vergleichbare Instrumentenkategorien herunterbrechen lässt, die durch ein einheitliches Rechtsregime legitimiert werden können. Under the balmy Mediterranean skies of Santa Margherita Ligure on the beautiful Italian Riviera, forty Hegelian scholars from nine countries put their heads together on the theme “Hegel’s Philosophie des subjectiven Geistes” at the Conference of the Internationale Hegel-Vereinigung, May 24–27, 1973. Enjoying the generosity of the Italian Government and the official hospitality of the Municipality of Santa Margherita, the participants heard and discussed four papers by German scholars, two each by Italians and Americans, and one each by a (...) Dutch and a French scholar. Professor Valerio Verra of the University of Rome served as host, and Professor Dieter Henrich, President of the Internationale Hegel-Vereinigung, introduced the theme of the Conference and officiated the proceedings. Chairing individual sessions and participating in the discussions were such internationally known figures as Hans-Georg Gadamer of Germany, Eric Weil and Marcel Régnier of France, W. H. Kant's critical philosophy marks the end of a two-thousand year tradition of metaphysics. Against this older tradition, Kant proposes a new metaphysics of knowledge and human freedom with the autonomy of the subject as its principle. Led by the principle of subjectivity, it attempts to obtain a unified understanding of the whole world organized into a system of reason. In this way, the idea of classical metaphysics receives a new controversial interpretation still discussed today. Comparisons between international integration and integrative processes on lower social levels or in other social sectors have rather been neglected in the recent development of integration theory. However, they might have taught something more about the dynamics of integrative processes in general. International integration here, is compared with the creation and development of multi-purpose or all-purpose interest groups. Both are viewed as dynamic social processes of increasing interdependence and interaction, which start from the recognition that individual interests might better be (...) served by turning them info group-interests, through a process of successive compromises. Such social processes are accompanied by the creation of proper structures and by a shift of loyalty to the group or community-level. (shrink)

Among those addressing the Debrecen portion of the congress were Agnes Heller, Manfred Riedel, Shlomo Avineri, Walter Jaeschke, and Ludwig Siep. La Lettre Internationale is a new, international journal, edited by Antonin Liehm in French (with Paul Noirot) and in Italian (with Federico Coen). German and Spanish editions are in the planning stages. Liehm is known not only as a film critic, social thinker and political commentator; he is also the former editor of Literamy Listy, the journal of the Czech writers' union that was one of the important elements in the creation of the Prague Spring of 1968. Listy was (...) a cultural organ that played apolitical role without abandoning its primary mission. Small countries, Liehm explains, cannot afford parochialism. They are open necessarily to the outside world, from whose offerings they must know how to pick and choose. They do not have the luxury of purity; they cannot indulge their fantasies of autonomy.
