  9. A Natural Semantics for the Pullback of Fiber Bundles of Structures.Leonardo A. Cano G. & Pedro H. Zambrano - forthcoming - Studia Logica:1-37.
We remark that forcing in fiber bundles of structures of first order languages is not a compatible semantics with the pullback (of fiber bundles). Motivated by a combination of epistemology and geometry, we describe a semantics which behaves well with respect to the pullback. This new semantics uses parallel transport in its definition and allows to introduce two different types of extensions for the formulas: vertical and horizontal extensions.

  10. How neutrality matters: On the distinction between neutral and absent value.Andrés G. Garcia - forthcoming - Analysis.
We are called upon to favor good items and disfavor bad ones, but what about those that are neither good nor bad? Consider the state of a pebble lying unnoticed on a distant planet or a weevil not having a favorite color. If they possess neutral values, they would call upon us to react neutrally. Invoking the intuition that not everything makes normative demands, this paper defends a pluralistic view: among items that are neither good nor bad, some matter in (...)

  11. An Order Analysis of Hyperfinite Borel Equivalence Relations.G. A. O. Su & Ming Xiao - forthcoming - Journal of Symbolic Logic:1-23.
In this paper we first consider hyperfinite Borel equivalence relations with a pair of Borel $\mathbb {Z}$ -orderings. We define a notion of compatibility between such pairs, and prove a dichotomy theorem which characterizes exactly when a pair of Borel $\mathbb {Z}$ -orderings are compatible with each other. We show that, if a pair of Borel $\mathbb {Z}$ -orderings are incompatible, then a canonical incompatible pair of Borel $\mathbb {Z}$ -orderings of $E_0$ can be Borel embedded into the given pair. Anselm: I agreed that Pegasus is a flying horse according to the stories people tell, the paintings painters paint and so on . That is, Pegasus is a flying horse in the understanding of storytellers, their readers and the artists who depict Pegasus. You asked whether flying is not an unmediated causal power . Well, it could be an unmediated causal power if you or I had it, but not if a being with only mediated powers had it. And so (...)

On the Return to Metaphysics in Analytical Philosophy of Mind.G. A. Zolotkov - 2018 - Russian Journal of Philosophical Sciences 10:130-142.
The article examines the change of theoretical framework in analytic philosophy of mind. It is well known fact that nowadays philosophical problems of mind are frequently seen as incredibly difficult. It is noteworthy that the first programs of analytical philosophy of mind were skeptical about difficulty of that realm of problems. One of the most notable features of both those programs was the strong antimetaphysical stance, those programs considered philosophy of mind unproblematic in its nature. However, the consequent evolution of (...)

Experimenting the human: art, music, and the contemporary posthuman.G. Douglas Barrett - 2023 - Chicago: University of Chicago Press.
An engaging argument about what experimental music can tell us about being human. -/- In Experimenting the Human, G Douglas Barrett argues that experimental music speaks to the contemporary posthuman, a condition in which science and technology decenter human agency amid the uneven temporality of postwar global capitalism. Time moves forward for some during this period, while it seems to stand still or even move backward for others. Some say we’re already posthuman, while others endure the extended consequences of never (...)

This paper examines the identity of Asian swamp buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) from different value orientations. Buffalo were introduced into Northern (Top End) Australia in the early nineteenth century. A team of transdisciplinary researchers, including an ethicist, has been engaged in field research on feral buffalo in Arnhem Land over the past three years. Using historical documents, literature review, field observations, interviews with key informants, and interaction with the Indigenous land owners, an understanding of the diverse views on the scientific, cultural, (...)

Ethical issues in neurografting of human embryonic cells.G. J. Boer - 1999 - Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics 20 (5):461-475.
During the last decade neurotransplantation has developed into a technique with the possible potential to repair damaged or degenerating human brain. Effective neurotransplantation has so far been based on the use of fetal brain tissue derived from aborted embryos or fetuses. The ethical issues related to this new therapeutic approach therefore not only concern the possible adverse side effects for a neural graft-receiving patient, but also the relationship between the requirements for fetal tissue and the decision-making process for induced abortion.
