  7. Franz Ungler, Bruno Liebrucks' "Sprache Und Bewußtsein". Vorlesung Vom Ws 1988 [Language and Consciousness. Lecture From Winter Term 1988] with a Preface by Josef Simon, Introduced by M. Gottschlich.Max Gottschlich (ed.) - 2014 - Alber.

  8. Flexible boolean semantics. Coordination, plurality and scope in natural language.Yoad Winter & Roger Schwarzschild - unknown
This dissertation is based on the compositional model theoretic approach to natural language semantics that was initiated by Montague (1970) and developed by subsequent work. In this general approach, coordination and negation are treated following Keenan & Faltz (1978, 1985) using boolean algebras. As in Barwise & Cooper (1981) noun phrases uniformly denote objects in the boolean domain of generalized quanti®ers. These foundational assumptions, although elegant and minimalistic, are challenged by various phenomena of coordination, plurality and scope. The dissertation solves (...)

Anthropology: A Continental Perspective.Deirdre Winter, Elizabeth Hamilton, Margitta Rouse & Richard J. Rouse (eds.) - 2013 - University of Chicago Press.
Originally published in German, Christoph Wulf’s _Anthropology_ sets its sights on a topic as ambitious as its title suggests: anthropology itself. Arguing for an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach to anthropology that incorporates science, philosophy, history, and many other disciplines, Wulf examines—with breathtaking scope—all the ways that anthropology has been understood and practiced around the globe and through the years. Seeking a central way to understand anthropology in the midst of many different approaches to the discipline, Wulf concentrates on the human (...)

Goguen Categories: A Categorical Approach to L-Fuzzy Relations.Michael Winter - 2007 - Dordrecht, Netherland: Springer.
Goguen categories extend the relational calculus and its categorical formalization to the fuzzy world. Starting from the fundamental concepts of sets, binary relations and lattices, this book introduces several categorical formulations of an abstract theory of relations such as allegories, Dedekind categories and related structures. It is shown that neither theory is sufficiently rich to describe basic operations on fuzzy relations.

    Fiction, History, and Empirical Reality.Murray Krieger - 1974 - Critical Inquiry 1 (2):335-360.
I begin by asking an engagingly naive question that a layman would have every right to put to us - and often has. Why should we interest ourselves seriously in the once-upon-a-time worlds of fiction - these unreal stories about unreal individuals? It has been a persistent question in the history of criticism - ever since Plato called the poet a liar - and it is a question at once obvious and embarrassing. It is obvious because, for the apologist for (...)

The uncertainty of certainty in clinical ethics.Erich H. Loewy - 1987 - Journal of Medical Humanities 8 (1):26-33.
Physicians accept fallibility in technical matters as a condition of medical practice. When it comes to moral considerations, physicians are often loathe to act without a good deal more certitude and seem less willing to accept error. This article argues that ethics is intrinsic to medical decision making, that error is the inevitable risk of any action and that inaction carries even greater risk of error. Whether in the moral or the technical sphere, error must be accepted by physicians as (...)

    Leiblicher Glaube.

    Fichte: A Sytem of Freedom? Biographical-philosophical Reflections.Erich Fuchs - 2011 - Idealistic Studies 41 (1-2):113-123.
In an analysis of Fichte’s theoretical reflections read in the light of decisive biographical events, the present paper examines the following question: to what extent are we to assent to Fichte’s own assertion that his system is from the very outset a system of freedom? Kant’s philosophy provided the catalyst for the young Fichte because it promised a way out of the impasse of determinism. I will argue that the ultimate goal of Fichte’s lifelong struggle was to furnish a foundation (...)
