From the perspective of the system of systems development, system-level functional testing is required for designing subsystems. This study utilizes modeling and simulation techniques to analyze the operational behaviors of the subsystems and confirm data communication between them. The targeted system in the study is a naval combat system, which is a typical type of defense cyber-physical system. Three types of models were designed for the simulation testing of the NCS: a combat-management model for simulating the overall computational activities, physical (...) models to confirm the intrasubsystem behaviors, and data integration models to test the intersubsystem communications. These models are realized with the Model-View-ViewModel design pattern, which strongly facilitates graphical user interfaces being decoupled from model logic and data. We consider underwater combat scenarios as an application. Six significant physical subsystems within the NCS are simulated and tested: a ship-steering system, an inertial navigation system, a global navigation satellite system, a periscope, sonar systems, and a plotting board. We expect that the proposed work will play a principal role when analyzing the behaviors and communications of defense CPSs and providing an environment for functional testing as a digital twin. This study examines how the corporate philanthropy decisions of group-affiliated firms in Korea are made. Based on the attention-based view, we argue that when corporate decision makers at group-affiliated firms focus their attention more on internal markets than external stakeholders because of the firm’s high reliance on intragroup transactions, the firm will decrease its level of corporate philanthropy. We further argue that the relationship will be stronger when governance mechanisms focus on the instrumental value of corporate philanthropy. Using a panel (...) sample of group-affiliated firms in Korea from 2011 to 2015, we find that as intragroup sales increase, the level of corporate philanthropy decreases, and such a negative relationship is stronger when outside director representation and foreign investor ownership are high. Our study suggests that internal dependence and corporate governance mechanisms jointly affect the level of corporate philanthropy at firms in a business group. Thus, this study contributes to the literature on corporate philanthropy, business group, and corporate governance. (shrink)

We examine the role flexible working has for gender equality during the pandemic, focusing on arrangements that give workers control over when and where they work. We use a survey of dual-earning working parents in the United Kingdom during the peak of the first lockdown, namely, between mid-May and mid-June 2020. Results show that in most households in our survey, mothers were mainly responsible for housework and child care tasks both before and during the lockdown period, although this proportion has (...) slightly declined during the pandemic. In households where fathers worked from home during the pandemic, respondents were less likely to say that mothers were the ones solely or mostly responsible for housework and child care. Fathers who worked from home were more likely to say that they were doing more housework and child care during the lockdown period than they were before. Finally, we explore what we expect to happen in the postpandemic times in relation to flexible working and gender equality. The large expansion of flexible working we expect to happen may help reduce some of the gender inequalities that have exacerbated during the pandemic, but only if we reflect on and change our existing work cultures and gender norms. The notion of ‘wise mother and good wife (WMGW)’ (Hyonmo Yangcho) is the traditional idealized image of Korean womanhood as one who serves her country and others through her roles as a mother and wife. This ideology may continue to have some significance in the lives of many first‐generation Korean immigrant women, but its potential role in the adjustment challenges these women may face while acculturating to the immigrant context in the United States has received little attention. In this paper, (...) we briefly review the historical background of the WMGW ideology and discussed the significance of focusing research attention on the role of this notion in contemporary first‐generation Korean immigrant women in the United States. We focus on the intersecting influences of gender, ethnicity, and immigrants’ generation status, which may further marginalize some first‐generation Korean immigrant mothers. We then outline possible unique challenges faced by some of these mothers due to the WMGW gender ideology, highlighting potential immigration‐related difficulties including changes in their social support networks, parenting burden, mental health, and language issues. The generation of isometric force at the hand can be mediated by activating a few motor modules. Stroke induces alterations in motor modules underlying steady-state isometric force generation in the human upper extremity. However, how the altered motor modules impact task performance remains unclear as stroke survivors develop and converge to the three-dimensional target force. Thus, we tested whether stroke-specific motor modules would be activated from the onset of force generation and also examined how alterations in motor modules would induce (...) changes in force representation. During 3D isometric force development, electromyographic signals were recorded from eight major elbow and shoulder muscles in the paretic arm of 10 chronic hemispheric stroke survivors and both arms of six age-matched control participants. A non-negative matrix factorization algorithm identified motor modules in four different time windows: three “exploratory” force ramping phases and the stable force match phase. Motor module similarity and between-force coupling were examined by calculating the scalar product and Pearson correlation across the phases. To investigate the association between the end-point force representation and the activation of the motor modules, principal component analysis and multivariate multiple linear regression analyses were applied. In addition, the force components regressed on the activation profiles of motor modules were utilized to model the feasible force direction. Both stroke and control groups developed exploratory isometric forces with a non-linear relationship between EMG and force. During the force matching, only the stroke group showed abnormal between-force coupling in medial-lateral and backward-forward and medial-lateral and downward-upward directions. In each group, the same motor modules, including the abnormal deltoid module in stroke survivors, were expressed from the beginning of force development instead of emerging during the force exploration. The PCA and the multivariate multiple linear regression analyses showed that alterations in motor modules were associated with abnormal between-force coupling and limited feasible force direction after stroke. Overall, these results suggest that alterations in intermuscular coordination contribute to the abnormal end-point force control under isometric conditions in the UE after stroke. (shrink)

Paul Tillich did not consider photography to be a form of art and, therefore, rarely talked about it. In this paper, I discuss what he said publicly about photography in relationship to Tillich’s own understanding of art and in conversation with some of his contemporaries in Europe. This discussion will include reasons as to why he was reluctant to admit photography to be art and how his thoughts could have been changed. Premised upon the belief that Tillich’s theological analysis of (...) art is still relevant for contemporary theological discussions of art, this paper will try to situate Tillich’s theology of art in the midst of the visual culture of the early 20th century. I will further make two related claims: (1) there were moments of his intellectual career when Tillich could have reflected on photography in a deeper way; (2) the examination of Tillich’s reluctance can be fruitful for future theological reflection on photography. ObjectiveThis pilot study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a digital cognitive behavioral therapy in patients with cancer experiencing sleep problems.MethodsA total of 57 participants aged 25–65 years were randomly assigned to three groups—21 participants to a dCBT program, 20 participants to an app-based attentional control program, and 16 participants to a waitlist control group—and evaluated offline before and after the program completion. Of the 57 participants, there were a total of 45 study completers, 15 participants in each group. The (...) dependent variables were sleep quality scores, measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and health-related quality of life scores, measured using the Short-Form 36, and attentional bias scores from a dot-probe computer task.ResultsFor both the intention-to-treat and study-completers analyses, a significant increase supported by a large effect size was found in the quality of sleep score of the HARUToday Sleep group compared to both the app-based attentional control and the waitlist control group. However, no significant changes were found in the quality of life and attentional bias scores.ConclusionOur results suggest that the HARUToday Sleep app has the potential to serve as an intervention module to enhance the sleep quality of patients with cancer experiencing sleep problems. We study whether changes in analyst recommendation ratings systems encouraged by the implementation of NASD 2711 in 2002 are associated with improved objectivity and independence in analyst recommendations. Using recommendations issued during windows surrounding major investment banking events, we show that reductions in analyst optimism following the reforms concentrate in the recommendations of analysts whose employer adopted a three-tier rating system at the time of the reforms, and that this effect is generally stronger for analysts whom the underlying incentives to (...) engage in unethical behaviour is greatest. We also find evidence that adoption of the three-tier system improved the market’s perception of the objectivity of analyst recommendations issued after SEOs, and that for hold and sell-type recommendations this effect was stronger for analysts subject to the greatest potential ethical conflicts. While we find some evidence of a general post-reform increase in the profitability of recommendations issued following equity transactions, this improvement was only conditioned by changes to the rating system in our IPO sample. 기후변화가 지구촌의 화두로 떠오르면서 국가 차원의 능동적인 대응책이 절실하다. 이 대응책에는 국민의 여론이 충분히 반영돼야 하고 이를 위해서는 사회적 논의와 토론이 활발히 이뤄져야 한다. 하지만 한국이 여론 형성을 위한 바람직한 담론 구조를 가지고 있는지 회의적이다. 미국 등 서구사회에서는 기후변화 옹호론자와 회의론자들이 활발한 논쟁을 벌이고 있지만 우리는 그렇지 못하다. 기후게이트 같은 기후변화 역사에서 가장 큰 회의론적 논란이 발생했을 때 우리 언론은 이런 이슈를 국내에 거의 소개조차 하지 않았다. 이런 편향적이고 다양성 없는 정보로 인해 한국 국민들은 기후변화의 전체적인 모습을 균형있게 인식할 수 (...) 있었다고 보기 어렵다. 더구나 정부는 녹색정책을 추진해 기후변화 논란이 발디 딜 틈을 주지 않았다. 본 논문은 이런 한국 사회의 기후변화 담론의 편향성이 뉴스 보도의 편향성에 기인한다는 가설을 세웠다. 언론의 침묵과 동시에 전문가 집단인 과학자들도 자신의 생각을 얘기하기를 꺼렸다. 최소한 기후변화와 관련해 침묵의 나선이 우리 사회에 점령했었다고 보아도 과언은 아니다. 이 논문은 최대의 논쟁적 이슈였던 기후게이트 발생 시점인 지난 2009년 11월을 전후해 2년간의 한국과 미국신문 통해 뉴스 프레임의 국제 비교를 통해 가설을 입증해 봤다. 하버마스의 의사소통행위이론을 통해 한국 언론의 문제점도 되짚어보는 계기를 제공했다. 본 연구는 세계 문명의 생태적 관계망을 조율하는 21세기 새로운 문명관인 ‘생태 문명’의 실마리를 전통 시대 동아시아의 국제 공공성과의 연관 속에서 조선의 한반도라는 전통적 사유 공간에서 모색해보고자 했다. 구체적으로는 18세기 대표적인 북학 실학자이자 생태 사상가로 평가되는 담헌 홍대용의 철학사상을 21세기 동서 통합의 새로운 ‘생태적 연대 문명’이라는 현재적 의미로 재구성하는 데 맞춰졌다. 그 문제 설정은 기본적으로 기존의 동서 보편 문명관에 내장된 ‘주변부’에 대한 ‘중심부’의 양분적이고 차별적인 기제에 주목하는 데서 출발한다. 홍대용의 생태철학은 직접적으로는 동양적 문명 범주에 내재된 ‘중화 대 이적’이라는 절대적 타자를 상정하는 (...) 차별 기제의 해체 문제와 관련된다. 동양적 문명론 범주에서 보면 국제 공공성 범주는 ‘중화주의’라는 불완전한 중세적 보편 문명론과 맞닿아 있다. 전통 시대 동아시아 세계에서 ‘중화’는 문명의 단수로 존재하여 중심적 가치를 거부하는 주변국들을 원천적으로 문명의 범주로부터 봉쇄하여 야만국으로 폄하하는 논리적 장치를 구동해 왔다. 이러한 계서적 국제 규범은 중국 중심의 천하관인 ‘화이론’에 기초한다. 홍대용의 ‘문명생태주의’는 다원성과 타자성을 포용하는 미래적 가치의 ‘다주체·다중심의 공생주의 문명관’에 근접한다. 그의 탈중심화 담론은 물·아가 지양되는 진리의 전체상인 ‘천시天視’로부터 획득된 것이다. 담헌은 중심과 주변이라는 인·물, 지地·성星, 내·외, 화·이, 춘추·역외춘추 등의 대립 구도를 상대화하는 한편 이 양자의 동시긍정이라는 ‘연대적 동일성’을 지향한다. 이것은 인식론적으로 상대주의를 견지하면서도 궁극적으로는 천의 시각에서 존재의 평등성을 관찰해가는 구상인 것이다. 자기의 중심성을 벗어나 공평무사하게 ‘천의 관점’에 입각해보면 그 누구도 중심이 될 수 없으며 수평적 관계의 대등함만이 존재할 뿐이다. 이 동일성의 철학은 인물균, 지성균地星均을 거쳐 종국에는 ‘화이일華夷一’에까지 관통된다. 그리고 그것은 과거 문명 강권주의가 구획해놓은 중심과 주변, 주체와 객체, 보편과 다원, 근대와 전통, 서양과 동양 등의 방대한 양분적 구조를 희석시키는 데 두루 관철된다. 담헌의 문명생태주의는 과거의 전통 시대에는 특권적 중심 문화를 향한 소외된 주변 문화의 결손된 권리 찾기였다면 이제 그것은 생명의 존엄성에 입각한 우리는 하나라는 상호 동일성의 ‘평화공존의식’이라 할 것이다. 본 논문은 대표적인 북학자 중 한명인 홍대용(洪大容, 1731~1783)의 세계관 변화를 고찰하고, 그의 세계관 변화 속에서 그가 일찍이 당시 수준에서 현대적인 글로컬화된 철학적 세계관을 가지고 있었음을 밝히는 것이다. 그의 세계관 변화를 고찰하는 것은 조선의 역사에서 지식인들의 세계관 변화의 추이를 대표해 살펴보는 것이다. 당시 조선 지식인들이 명(明)을 중화로 인식하고 조선을 동이(東夷)로 인식하던 것을, 명의 멸망 후 조선을 소중화(小中華)로 청(淸)을 북쪽 변방으로 인식했던 것이, 18세기에 이르러 변화했다는 것은 잘 알려진 사실이다. 이러한 변화를 대표하는 것이 홍대용의 세계관 변화이다. 홍대용의 세계관은 35세(1765~6년)에 있었던 북경 여행을 (...) 계기로 변화하기 시작하였다. 그리고 그의 말년인 50세(1780년) 전후의 작품으로 추정되는 「의산문답(醫山問答)」에 이르러서는 그의 철학적인 사유와 함께 완성된 세계관이 나타난다. 본 논문에서는 그의 세계관이 전통적 세계관에서 어떻게 어떤 내용으로 질적인 변화를 하는지, 그리고 그것의 철학적 의의가 무엇인지 밝히는 것이다. 홍대용의 학문이 원숙할 때 이른 경지는 모든 곳에 곳에 도가 있고, 그래서 모든 곳이 중심이 된다는 것이다. 홍대용의 세계 인식은 조선 지식인의 전통적 세계관인 화이관을 벗어난 것이다. 그는 지원(地圓), 지전(地轉)의 세계관을 바탕으로, 하나만의 중심을 무화(無化)시키고 전통적 화이관을 해체하였다. 이것을 현대적으로 풀이하면, 다원주의적이고 글로컬적인 세계 인식을 갖게 되었던 것이라 해석할 수 있다. 그에게 이제 도(道)는 모든 곳에 있는 것이며, 지역으로도, 종족으로도, 문화로도, 시간적으로도 각각이 모두 스스로 중심이 되는 것이다. 현재를 살아가는 우리에게 그는 지역성과 세계성이 동시에 가능해지는 현대적 의미의 글로컬라이제이션을 선구적으로 주창하고 사유했던 철학자로 해석된다. 그에게 하늘과 땅 사이에 존재하는 모든 인간은 각자의 자리에서, 인사(人事)와 천시(天時)에 따른 각자의 온전한 도(道)를 적절하게 이룰 수 있는 존재로 해석되었던 것이라 볼 수 있다. 『주역』은 도를 음양의 작용으로 신을 음양으로 헤아릴 수 없는 것이라 정의하고 있다. 신은 만물이 묘합되어 있음을 말로 표현한 것이라 하고, 신묘함으로써 덕을 밝히고 그 덕을 백성들이 모두 사용한다고 하였다. 신은 음양이 묘합되어 있는 형이상의 존재로 도덕적이며 형이상‧하를 아우르는 개념이다. 건곤책수와 역을 통해 신을 도울 수 있다고 하고, 기미를 아는 것이 신이라고 하였다. 신이 책수를 통해 표상되었음은 곧 신이 시간과 변화를 주재하는 주재적 존재임을 알 수 있다. 신도는 천지신도라 하여 하늘의 속성으로 보고 있다. 사시가 틀리지 않는다고 하고, 신도로 가르치니 천하가 복종한다고 (...) 한 것으로 보아 형이하까지 아우르는 시간성의 원리적 개념임을 알 수 있다. 신덕행은 덕행을 신스럽게 한다는 것으로 덕행이 바로 신과 소통할 수 있는 근거가 되며, 신과 통할 수 있는 방법이 된다. 따라서 신스럽다(신묘하다)는 것은 신의 인격성·도덕성을 깨닫고 실천한다는 의미이다. 신화는 즉 신묘하고(신스럽고) 조화롭게 한다는 것은 신의 의지·도덕성에 순응하여 신을 궁구함으로써 신을 닮아가는 것이 덕을 키워 신을 돕는 것이다. 신명에서의 신은 신스러움으로써 덕을 밝힌다고 하고, 신스럽게(신묘하게) 하여 밝힘은 사람에 있고 묵묵히 이루게 하여 말하지 않아도 믿음은 덕행에 있다고 한 것으로 보아 신스러움은 신의 도덕성인 덕이 드러나는 모습이다. 신물은 천지의 도를 밝히고 백성의 연고를 살펴서 신물을 일으켰다고 하여, 신의 도덕성을 드러내는 표상체계가 신물임을 알 수 있다. 귀신은 길흉과 합하여 하나가 되는 존재이다. 삼재지도와 함께 언급하고, 혼이 변함이 된다고 하며, 천지지수가 변화를 이루고 귀신을 행한다고 하였다. 따라서 귀신은 떠돌아다니는 인격성(혼)을 가진 존재이며, 형이상적인 존재이며, 길흉을 판단하는 존재 즉, 돌아간 선성인의 인격성임을 알 수 있다. 사회진화론은 1880년대에 초기 개화사상가들에 의해 한국사회에 수용되었고 1900년대에는 일종의 시대정신으로 여겨지며 당시 국제사회를 해석하는 가장 유력한 사상적 프레임으로 기능하였다. 그러나 지금까지의 연구들은 1910년을 기점으로 사회진화론의 사상적 기능이 소멸되었다고 보거나 제한된 영역에서의 사상적 양상만을 고찰하였다. 본고에서는 1910년 이후로도 사회진화론의 영향력은 다양한 사상 속에 침투되어 변용적으로 존재해왔으며 동시에 그것을 극복하기 위한 시도도 있었음을 밝히고자 하였다. 먼저 안중근은 동양 3국[황인종]의 연대를 통해 서구 세력[백인종]의 침략을 막아야 한다는 동양평화론을 주장하였다. 이는 인종주의에 사회진화론을 결합한 것으로 서구의 침략을 일종의 동종(同種) 혹은 약자 연대를 통해 대항하고자 하는 (...) ‘저항적 인종주의’의 성격을 띠었다. 박은식은 사회진화론적 진보의 논리를 유학에 적용하여 당시 유학이 가지고 있었던 봉건성을 극복하고, 유학의 대동사상, 성선론 등을 통해 사회진화론의 인종주의적 우열론과 약육강식론의 비도덕성을 극복하고자 하였다. 1919년에는 제1차 세계대전 이후 파리강화회의가 개최되면서 ‘세계평화’가 화두로 제시되었고 ‘민족자결주의’, ‘세계주의’, ‘평화주의’ 등의 관념이 나타났다. 또한 러시아 혁명 및 사회주의 국가 건설 등을 계기로 사회주의, 아나키즘 등 새로운 사상이 등장하면서 사회진화론적 세계관에 균열을 가져온다. 이러한 사상적 흐름 속에서 안창호는 국제사회에서 여전히 약육강식의 논리가 통용되고 있음을 비판적으로 인식하고는 있었지만, 현실적으로 국제사회로부터 독립국으로서의 자격을 인정을 받기 위해서는 자강의 힘을 길러야 한다고 주장하였다. 그러나 그 힘의 토대에 근면, 성실, 신용 등 개신교적 자본주의 윤리와 민족주의적 공동체의식을 도입하여 사회진화론적 경쟁의 비도덕성을 극복하고자 하였다. 신채호는 약육강식에 의한 열강의 식민 지배를 ‘민중직접혁명’을 통해 타도해야한다고 주장했다. 이 과정에서 그는 세계 식민지 민중과의 연대를 주장하기도 했다. 그러나 역사를 ‘아(我)와 비아(非我)의 투쟁’ 즉, 자민족과 타민족의 생존투쟁의 기록이라고 봤던 그의 역사관은 사회진화론적 관점을 완전히 극복하지는 못한 것으로 보인다. 안중근과 박은식의 사상은 1910년을 기점으로 한 것이고 안창호와 신채호의 사상은 1919년 이후 주창된 것이다. 이들은 초기 사회진화론자들처럼 약육강식의 논리를 무비판적으로 수용하면서 소위 ‘문명국’의 ‘비문명국’에 대한 지배나 착취를 원리로서 인정하는 사고에서는 벗어났지만, 현실을 사회진화론적 프레임으로 바라보는 사고를 완전히 단절해내지는 못했다. 그러나 동양평화론, 유교, 자유민주주의, 아나키즘 등 각자가 취한 여러 가지 사상적 토대 위에서 사회진화론의 이론적, 현실적 문제를 극복하려는 시도가 나타났는데 그것이 1910년 이후 한국 사상계의 하나의 큰 특징이라고 결론지을 수 있다. 『정역』은 19세기 김일부 선생에 의해서 저술된 철학서이다. 『정역』의 핵심적 내용은 하도‧낙서의 변화원리를 통한 금화교역과 선후천변화원리라고 할 수 있다. 본 고에서는 『정역』에서의 금화교역과 선후천변화원리에 대한 역 철학적인 함의를 논명하기 위해서 먼저, 하도⋅낙서와 역수에 대하여 살펴보고, 다음으로 『주역』에서의 선후천과 『정역』의 금화교역과 선후천변화원리의 역 철학적 함의를 구명하고자 한다. 『주역』에서는 천시天時를 기준의 성인지도의 가각여부를 선후천의 기준으로 삼고 있다. 그러나 『정역』에서는 하도낙서의 금화교역을 통한 선후천변화를 설명하고 있다. 『정역』에서의 역수의 의미는 무엇인가? 본래 역수의 개념은 『서경』 「대우모」편과 『논어』 「요왈」편에서 처음 언급된 개념이지만 역수에 관해 체계적인 언급을 한 (...) 것은 『정역』이라 할 수 있다. 『정역』의 서문인 「대역서」에서 “역은 역(책력(冊曆))이니, 역(책력(冊曆))이 없으면 성인(聖人)도 없고, 성인이 없으면 역도 없다.”라고 밝히고 있다. 하도낙서와 역수는 어떤 상관성을 가지고 있는가? 역수의 표상체계가 하도·낙서이다. 왜냐하면 하도·낙서에 나타난 수리는 역수의 논리로 구성되어 있기 때문이다. 『주역』과는 달리 『정역』에서는 하도낙서의 금화자리가 교역함으로써 선후천변화가 이루어짐을 설명하고 있다. 즉 금화가 교역하니 천지비의 세상은 가고, 지천태의 세상이 온다는 것이다. 즉 현실세계인 낙서에서 미래의 이상세계인 하도세상으로 변화를 이룬다는 것이다. 그리고 『정역』에서는 삼백육십일의 세계를 후천세계로 규정하고 있다. 금화(오행의 금(金)과 화(火))가 교역하여 영원히 불변하는 삼백육십일의 완전한 세상을 이루는 근거를 두고 있다. 본 연구논문에서는 금화교역을 통한 선후천변화원리에 관한 역학적인 함의를 구명하기 위해서 하도⋅낙서와 역수원리, 금화교역과 선후천변화원리에 관하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 『주역』에서는 천도의 주체적 자각을 통해서 후천을 열어갈 수 있다는 것이다. 둘째, 『정역』에서는 금화교역을 통해서 대립과 갈등의 낙서세계를 극복하고 상생과 소통의 하도세상으로 선후천변화가 이루어진다는 것이다. 셋째, 『정역』에서 후천의 세계란 일 년 일수가 삼백육십일의 세계가 이루어진다는 것이다. 선후천이란 『주역』에서는 천시天時를 기준으로 한 성인지도聖人之道의 자각을 통해서 내 마음속에서 후천을 열어간다는 의미이요, 『정역』에서는 내면적인 자각과 더불어 물리적인 시간과 공간의 후천세계를 밝히고 있다는 차이를 확인할 수 있다. 본고는 『주역』의 河圖洛書論에 근거하여 선진유학에서 논의된 方圓(規矩)의 역학적 의미를 고찰하였다. 『주역』에서는 天地之數와 大衍之數를 통해 天地之道를 표상하는 河圖․洛書를 논하고, 이것을 方圓으로 상징됨을 밝히고 있다. 天地人 三才之道로 논한 『주역』의 학문적 체계에서 天道는 시작과 끝을 알 수 없는 영원한 시간의 세계이기 때문에 圓으로 상징하고, 地道(人道 포함)는 上下 四方으로 확산되는 공간의 세계이기 때문에 方으로 상징하였다. 특히 『맹자』에서 논한 ‘規矩는 方圓의 지극함이오 聖人은 人倫의 지극함이다’는 선진유학에서 方圓의 철학적 의미를 직접 밝힌 것으로 하도․낙서와 方圓의 관계를 이해할 수 있다. ‘그림쇠는 방의 지극함이다’는 시작과 끝이 없는 영원한 시간의 (...) 세계가 상하 사방의 공간 세계가 드러남을 밝힌 것인데, 이는 河圖의 작용이 10을 본체로 하여 9 → 8 → 7 → 6 → 5 → 4 → 3 → 2으로 전개되어 마지막에는 1(洛書, 작용의 기본수)로 전개되는 것을 의미하는 것이다. 또 ‘곱자는 원의 지극함이다’는 상하 사방의 공간의 세계를 그리는 곱자를 통해 하늘의 뜻이 밝혀지게 됨을 밝힌 것인데, 이는 洛書의 작용이 1에서 2 → 3 → 4 → 5 → 6 → 7 → 8 → 9로 전개되어 마지막에는 10(河圖, 본체수)으로 완성되는 것을 의미하고 있다. 또한 『周易』 重地坤卦()에서 논한 ‘곧고 방정하고 위대한 것이다’를 통해 인간과 天地의 관계를 이해할 수 있다. 즉, 方圓의 그림을 통해 보면, 直은 그대로 직각(└ )으로 인간을 상징하고, 이것이 상(┐)․하(└ )로 합해져 方의 사방(□)이 그려져 地道를 상징하고, 이 四方에서 다시 大인 乾道가 원( ○ )으로 그려져지면서 直과 方이 天道로 완성되는 것이다. 따라서 인간이 자기 자각을 통해 地道와 天道가 완성된다는 철학적 의미로 이해할 수 있다. 또 하늘은 圓( ○)으로 그리고 땅은 方(□)으로 표시되어 天地와 乾坤의 관계가 이루어지기 때문에 天地人 三才之道의 내용이 되고 있지만, 인간을 중심으로 天地의 관계에 있어서 중요한 사실은 圓은 方을 내포하는 관계이어야 하지, 圓이 方에 내포되어서는 안 된다는 것이다. 이 논문은 관중 유남상 선생의 역학관에 관한 것이다. 선생은 평생 『주역』과 『정역』을 연구하여 『주·정역경합편』 을 저술하였다. 이 책은 단순히 두 경서를 소개하기 위하여 한 권의 책으로 엮어 만든 것이 아니다. ‘천지역수원리(간지도수원리)’ 와 ‘하락상수원리’ 를 중심으로 역도(천도 위주)를 드러낸 『정역』과 괘효원리를 중심으로 역도(지도․인도 위주)를 표상한 『주역』을 합쳐 묶음으로써 두 경전의 내용이 결국 15성인의 한 말씀으로 천명되는 천의 로서의 선후천역수변화원리 임을 밝힌 것이다. 선생은 이 책에서 역학의 삼대 명제인 「천지역수원리」·「역수성통원리」·「성학즉역학원리」 를 간지도수원리와 도서상수원리, 그리고 괘효원리로써 밝히고, 아울러 역도는 궁극적으로 ‘선후천변화원리’임을 나타내고 있다. 그런데 (...) 이런 내용들은 맹자 이후 2,000여 년 동안 학계에서 논의되지 않았던 것으로서 역학사에 있어서 무척 획기적인 학설이라 할 수 있다.
