Im Zentrum des Buches steht die Betrachtung der Wiederholung in ihren vielfältigen, kulturübergreifenden Erscheinungsformen. Zahlreiche Analysen aus den Bereichen der abendländischen Kunstmusik, der europäischen Volksmusik, der afrikanischen, indonesischen und indischen Musik sowie der populären Musik untermauern die einzigartige Bedeutung der Wiederholung als musikalisches Gestaltungsmittel. Die europäische Theorie der musikalischen Form, mathematische Betrachtungen, Minimal Music (als Inbegriff repetitiver Musik) sowie ästhetische Überlegungen werden in einzelnen Kapiteln behandelt. Eine Systematisierung der Wiederholungsstrukturen steht am Ende des Buches. The end of the nineteenth century and the whole of the twentieth may justifiably be called a time of great discoveries in the micro-, macro-, and megaworlds. All bearing witness to the dynamic life of the universe, these discoveries have resulted primarily from progress in the instruments of research, leading to the discovery of many new elementary particles, new forms of interaction, fields, and astrophysical objects — quasars, pulsars, sources of X-ray emissions, and others. An understanding of the essence of (...) the processes involved in these objects and phenomena, however, comes up against certain difficulties , the overcoming of which is to be sought primarily along the lines of further improvement of the tools of research and processing of the information acquired, the application of existing theories and the development of new ones in physics and astrophysics, and the utilization of the achievements of the science of the most general laws of the motion and development of nature, society, and thought, i.e., dialectical materialism, as the general methodology of acquisition of scientific knowledge. But these ideas are needed to judge evidence in school science, in physics or chemistry or biology or psychology, in undergraduate science, and in understanding everyday issues to do with science. Resumen Las interfaces cerebro-computadora (ICCs) son tecnologías que proveen herramientas para la comunicación entre el ser humano y las computadoras. Dado que las nuevas técnicas asociadas a ICCs podrían influir en la autorregulación emocional, la memoria autobiográfica, el sentido del yo, la identidad, la autonomía, la autenticidad y las atribuciones de responsabilidad presentan importantes objeciones éticas. Entender las consecuencias a largo plazo de estas nuevas tecnologías puede ser difícil. Por lo tanto, los aspectos éticos vinculados a las ICCs necesitan ser (...) continuamente revisados a la par de los avances técnicos en el área. El personalismo ontológicamente fundado se ha formalizado como un camino de reflexión que tiene como referencia una antropología que defiende el valor de la vida física corpórea, la relación libertad-responsabilidad y la adecuada interacción individuo y sociedad y brinda pautas éticas que permitan formular normas de conducta acordes con la dignidad de la persona humana. Por lo tanto, en este artículo se aplican los principios de la bioética personalista al ámbito de las ICCs, de modo tal de dar directrices generales para la acción que puedan contribuir a elaborar un juicio ético acerca del desarrollo y uso de estas neurotecnologías. Abstract Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are technologies that provide tools for communication between humans and computers. Since the new techniques associated with BCIs could influence emotional self-regulation, autobiographical memory, sense of self, identity, autonomy, authenticity, and attributions of responsibility present important ethical objections. Understanding the long-term consequences of these innovative technologies can be difficult. Therefore, the ethical aspects linked to BCIs need to be continuously reviewed in line with technical advances in the area. Ontologically grounded personalism has been formalized as a path of reflection that has as its reference an anthropology that defends the value of corporeal physical life, the relationship between freedom and responsibility, and the appropriate interaction between the individual and society. This approach provides ethical guidelines for the formulation of norms of conduct in accordance with the dignity of the human person. Therefore, in this article, the principles of personalist bioethics are applied to the field of BCIs, in order to provide general guidelines for action that can contribute to the elaboration of an ethical judgment about the development and use of these neurotechnologies. Prism adaptation is a form of visuomotor training that produces both sensorimotor and cognitive aftereffects depending on the direction of the visual displacement. Recently, a neural framework explaining both types of PA-induced aftereffects has been proposed, but direct evidence for it is lacking. We employed Structural Equation Modeling, a form of effective connectivity analysis, to establish directionality among connected nodes of the brain network thought to subserve PA. The findings reveal two distinct network branches: a loop involving connections from the (...) parietal cortices to the right parahippocampal gyrus, and a branch linking the lateral premotor cortex to the parahippocampal gyrus via the cerebellum. Like the sensorimotor aftereffects, the first branch exhibited qualitatively different modulations for left versus right PA, and critically, changes in these connections were correlated with the magnitude of the sensorimotor aftereffects. Like the cognitive aftereffects, changes in the second branch were qualitatively similar for left and right PA, with greater change for left PA and a trend correlation with cognitive aftereffects. These results provide direct evidence that PA is supported by two functionally distinct subnetworks, a parietal–temporal network responsible for sensorimotor aftereffects and a fronto-cerebellar network responsible for cognitive aftereffects. We share with Anderson & Lebiere (A&L) (and with Newell before them) the goal of developing a domain-general framework for modeling cognition, and we take seriously the issue of evaluation criteria. We advocate a more focused approach than the one reflected in Newell's criteria, based on analysis of failures as well as successes of models brought into close contact with experimental data. A&L attribute the shortcomings of our parallel-distributed processing framework to a failure to acknowledge a symbolic level of thought. (...) Our framework does acknowledge a symbolic level, contrary to their claim. What we deny is that the symbolic level is the level at which the principles of cognitive processing should be formulated. Models cast at a symbolic level are sometimes useful as high-level approximations of the underlying mechanisms of thought. The adequacy of this approximation will continue to increase as symbolic modelers continue to incorporate principles of parallel distributed processing. (shrink)

Empirical evidence on the Fundamentals of Care framework and its relevance to practice is increasing. However, there is a need to understand the evidence in practice and determine how best to evaluate caring activities. This exploratory study aimed to understand current nursing practice with the Fundamentals of Care framework, how nurses understand the framework, and what is essential to patients receiving care. The objectives were (1) to observe nurses in practice and record nurse–patient interactions against the Fundamentals of Care framework (...) dimensions, (2) to probe the nurse's understanding of the framework, (3) to explore what is important to patients when receiving care from nurses, (4) to explore the nurse's and patient's understanding of culture and spirituality, and (5) to identify the barriers and facilitators to delivering integrated care. The study identified four key findings: (1) nurse–patient interactions centred around completing tasks and the physical aspects of care, (2) there are crucial gaps in nurses' ability to connect with their patients and establish a good nurse–patient relationship, (3) integrated fundamental care was not evident in the behaviours and narratives of the nurses, and (4) the context in which care is delivered significantly impacts how nurses work particularly the challenges of using technology and electronic records. Healthcare organisations and nursing leaders need to consider the implications of nurses prioritising the organisation's efficiency‐driven requirements over establishing a therapeutic relationship and integrating the patient's care needs. More work is required to support nurses in delivering integrated fundamental care. (shrink)

Wenn überhaupt in einem Gebiet Wahrheit und Existenz unabhängig von unseren Erkenntnisfähigkeiten sind, dann in der Metaphysik – etwa bei der Frage, ob es Gott gibt oder eine Seele, die unseren Tod überdauert. Die metaphysica specialis schreit geradezu nach metaphysischem Realismus und dem zugehörigen Wahrheitsbegriff. Von diesem Ausgangspunkt gerät man allerdings schnell in Verlegenheit, wenn man fragt: Nach welchen Kriterien sollen wir uns richten, wenn wir uns über Gott oder Unsterblichkeit ein Urteil bilden wollen? Mit den Mitteln der Naturwissenschaft und (...) deren rationaler Methodologie (in der es um Empirie, Einfachheit, Sparsamkeit usw. geht) kommen wir bei Themen wie Gott oder Unsterblichkeit immer nur bis zum Patt. Genauso steht es bei der Frage, ob wir in unseren Entscheidungen frei sind. Urteilsenthaltung können wir uns nicht erlauben, dafür sind die metaphysischen Fragen zu wichtig; Auslosen kommt auch nicht infrage. Statt erkenntnistheoretisch zu kapitulieren, schlage ich programmatisch vor, die Erkenntnislehre auf weichere Weise weiterzubetreiben. Emotion, Intuition, Moral – das sind einige der zusätzlichen außerrationalen Hilfsmittel, mit deren Hilfe wir weiterkommen können. Ich zeige, dass diese Hilfsmittel respektabler und gewichtiger sind, als kühle, rationale Erkenntnistheoretiker zugeben wollen. Diese Hilfsmittel führen zu guten Postulaten aus Unvernunft (und zwar nicht nur in der Metaphysik). Wie schlimm es für den Realismus ist, dass diese Postulate immer noch falsch sein könnten, diese Frage werde ich im vorliegenden Aufsatz nicht mehr klären. (shrink)

Wenn Gott keine metaphysische Ergänzung der Welt ist, stellt sich die Frage, wie Gott dann gedacht werden muss, damit wahrhaft von Gott die Rede ist? Hartmut von Sass beantwortet diese Frage, indem er drei Thesen ausarbeitet: dass Gottes Wesen identisch ist mit seinem Handeln; dass dieses Handeln an uns in seiner Offenbarung für uns besteht; und dass dieses offenbarende Handeln in ein neues Selbst- und Weltverständnis des Menschen mündet. Kombiniert man diese drei Thesen, ist Gottes Wirken und damit Gott selbst (...) neu zu verorten: Nicht um einen zur Welt addierten Referenten geht es, sondern um eine irreduzible Referenz auf die uns umgebende Welt. Diese Umstellung vom Denken in Substanzen zum Verstehen in Vollzügen wird als Modalisierung des Glaubens bezeichnet. Den entsprechenden Konsequenzen für einen postmetaphysischen Gottesbegriff geht der Autor im Gespräch mit der Hermeneutischen Theologie und ihren philosophischen Grundlagen nach. (shrink)

ZUSAMMENFASSUNGIn diesem Aufsatz wird versucht, exegetische Einsichten über die johanneische Konzeption von δóξα and δoξάζειν mit dogmatischen und ästhetischen Bezügen zu »Herrlichkeit« und »Verherrlichung« in Verbindung zu setzen. Zwei Aspekte des Gebrauchs von δóξα and δoξάζειν im vierten Evangelium werden vorgestellt: erstens die Unterscheidung zwischen δóξα πατϱóς und δóξα πατϱί , die eine Veränderung in Jesu Beziehung zu der einen Herrlichkeit Gottes bezeichnet; zweitens der Aufbau eines christologischen Deutungszusammenhangs im Evangelium, in welchem die δóξα-Begrifflichkeit dazu dient, den Tod Jesu in (...) den theologischen Rahmen des Evangeliums zu integrieren.Vor diesem Hintergrund werden die »Herrlichkeits-bezogenen« Werke von Reinhard Hoeps, Das Gefühl des Erhabenen und die Herrlichkeit Gottes. Studien zur Beziehung von philosophischer und theologischer Ästhetik, 1989, und von Wolf Krötke, Gottes Klarheiten. Eine Neuinterpretation der Lehre von Gottes ›Eigenschaften‹, 2001, analysiert. Insbesondere Krötkes Werk scheint bemerkenswerte Übereinstimmungen mit der johanneischen δóξα-Theologie aufzuweisen.In einem abschließenden Ausblick werden weitere Möglichkeiten der Rezeption der johanneischen δóξα-Konzeption in der Dogmatik angedeutet, nämlich die Impulse für eine konkretere Bestimmung des Verhältnisses zwischen Gott und seinem Sohn und Gesandten, für die Spezifizierung des Selbstverständnisses der glaubenden Gemeinde und ihrer Verantwortung für die Welt und für eine Deutung des Todes Jesu, die die sühnetheologische Deutung ergänzt, überragt und überschreitet.SUMMARYThis paper seeks to relate exegetical insights concerning the Johannine concept of δóξα and δoξάζειν to dogmatic and aesthetic references to “glory” and “glorification”. Two features of the Fourth Gospel's use of δóξα and δoξάζειν are introduced: First, the distinction of a δóξα πατϱóς and a δóξα πατϱί , signifying a change in Jesus' relation to the one glory of God; second, the establishment of a Christological network throughout the Gospel, in which δóξα terminology serves to integrate Jesus' death into the theological framework of the Gospel. With this in mind, the “glory-centered” works of Reinhard Hoeps, Das Gefühl des Erhabenen und die Herrlichkeit Gottes. Studien zur Beziehung von philosophischer und theologischer Ästhetik, 1989, and, most extensively, Wolf Krötke, Gottes Klarheiten. Eine Neuinterpretation der Lehre von Gottes ‘Eigenschaften’, 2001, are analyzed; especially Krötke's work seems to yield remarkable consonances with Johannine δóξα theology. In a concluding outlook, some further ways for a dogmatic evaluation of the Johannine δóξα concept are suggested, namely its potential for a specification of the relationship between God and his Son and Sent One; for a specification of the self-understanding of the believing community and their responsibility for the world; and for an understanding of Jesus' death that supplements, surmounts and transcends the traditional soteriology of atonement.
