The main aim of this article is to discuss both the concept of secularism among the Ottoman intellectuals and the principle of secularism during the period of the Turkish Republic based on ideas rather than practice. We can analyze “secularism in Turkey” in two separate periods of time: First, “The Ottoman Empire and Secularism” which discusses the ideas of secularism before the foundation of the Turkish Republic, and second “A Brief Analysis of the Turkish Republic and the Principle of Secularism” (...) in which the idea of secularism related to the ideology of the state in the course of the Turkish Republic are shortly examined. Zaman, düşünce tarihinde üzerinde çokça tartışılmış ve muhtelif tanımlamaları yapılmış bir kavramdır. Bu makale de zamanın tanımlamasından ziyade onun üzerinde özellikle an kavramı merkezli bir düşünce etkinliği ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bilhassa zaman ve an kavramları arasındaki farka değinilmiştir. Zamanın hareketin olduğu yerde var olduğunu, anın ise hem hareketin hem de durağanlığın olduğu her yerde karşımıza çıktığını belirterek zamanın akışkan hayatı ölçülebilir kılma çabasında var oluşuyla, anın ise bu akışkanlığın her safhasında var olduğuna temas edilmiştir. Aynı zamanda anın varoluş ile mütemadiyen (...) yan yana olduğu, algılanışının ise bireylerin tecrübeleriyle zuhur ettiği görüşü ortaya konulmuştur. An’ın insan tecrübesiyle anlam kazanması ve insanın anı nasıl değerlendirmesi gerektiği hususunda konu, kanaatimizce Asr Suresi ve Hz. Peygamberin (s.a.v) buyruğu ile temellendirilmiştir. Bahsi geçen konu, çeşitli filozofların görüşleri ile de desteklenmiştir. Daha sonra makalemizde modern düşüncenin insanı anı kaliteli yaşamaktan ziyade daha iyi gelecek vaadiyle kaygı ve huzursuzluğa sevk ettiğini ifade ettik. Makalemizin sonunda ise İslam’ın bu modern düşüncenin aksine insana akışkanlık içerisinde yaşarken anın kendisine sunduğu akışkanlığın her bir aşamasını en güzel şekilde değerlendirmesini emrettiği ve onu değerli bir maden gibi tavında işlemesi gerektiği mesajıyla sonuçlandırdık. Bu makalenin amacı, ahlaksız hukuk ve dinsiz ahlak temellendirmesinin problemli olduğunu tartışmak ve bunları farklı bir yaklaşımla ele alıp incelemektir. Ahlakın kurallarıyla hukukun kuralları aynı mıdır? Ahlak olmadan hukuk insan vicdanını tatmin edebilir mi? Ahlak özgürlük için bir engel midir? Ahlakın kaynağında ne vardır? Ahlakın fıtrat ve din ile ilişkisi nedir? Ateist bir insan ahlaklı, dindar bir insan ahlaksız olabilir mi? Seküler referanslarla ahlakı temellendirmek mümkün müdür? Bu ve benzeri sorular etrafında ahlaksız hukuk ve dinsiz ahlakın imkanını tartışma konusu edeceğiz. (...) Ahlaksız hukukun insan vicdanını tatminde yetersiz olacağını, ahlakın ise kaynağında din ya da Tanrı olmadan temellendirilmesinin büyük zorluklar oluşturduğu makalemizde tahlil edilmeye çalışılacaktır. Mehmet Âkif Ersoy Türk düşüncesinin önemli bir şahsiyetidir. Âkif Müslüman toplumların belli bir dönemden sonra kaybettikleri misyonu yeniden kazanmalarına yönelik çabalar ortaya koymaktadır. O, Müslüman toplumlar üzerindeki cehalet bulutlarını dağıtmak istemektedir. Ona göre bu, Kur’an’a yeniden dönülmediği müddetçe gerçekleşmez. Âkif, İslam toplumlarında dinamik bir insan modeli oluşturmayı istemektedir. Bu makalede de biz Mehmet Âkif Ersoy’un bu düşüncelerini tahlil etmeye çalışacağız.

Bu yazıda Althusser’in Hegel-Marx ilişkisi hakkındaki tezleri ele alınacaktır. Bu tartışmanın yürütülmesi için, ilk olarak giriş mahiyetinde 1930’larda Fransa’daki Hegel alımlaması ve bunun Marxizm üzerindeki etkileri ele alınacaktır. İkincil olarak Althusser’in erken Hegel okuması üzerinde durulacaktır. Takip eden bölümde, Althusser’in Hegelci Marxizmlere getirdiği eleştiriler işlenecektir. Sonrasında Althusser’in dönemin Hegelci Marx okumasına karşı geliştirdiği alternatif düşünce ortaya konulacaktır. Sonuç bölümünde Althusser’in Hegel-Marx ilişkisine dair getirdiği yorum tartışılarak, Marx’ın düşüncesinde Althusser’in iddia ettiği türden keskin bir epistemolojik kopuşun olmadığı iddia edilecektir.

Davidson, özellikle semantik metafor kuramlarına karşı eleştirel bir yaklaşım geliştirir. Ona göre metafor, bu kuramların aksine, tek anlamlı olarak kabul edilmelidir. Bunun için ifadeleri, anlamla ve kullanımla ilgili olarak ikiye ayırır. Metafor tek anlamlı ve açıkça yanlış bir ifadedir. Fakat birisi, çoğunlukla, doğru olduğuna inandığı ifadeler dile getirme eğilimindedir. Bu nedenle, bilerek yanlış bir ifade dile getirmek anlamla değil; kullanımla ilgili olmalıdır. Metaforlar yanışlıklarından dolayı kullanımla ilgilidir ve muhatapta dürtmeye benzer bir etki ortaya çıkarırlar. Bu etkinin bir neticesi bazı karşılaştırmalar (...) yapmak ve bazı benzerlikler bulmak olabilir. Ancak bunlar, anlamadan sonra gerçekleşen şeyler olduğu için anlamsal olmayacaktır. Dolayısıyla Davidson, metafor ifadelerin bilişsel, anlamsal ve önermesel olmadıklarını düşünür. Ayrıca metaforları eksiltilmiş benzetme olarak gören kuramların görüşlerini kabul etmez. Metaforla ilgili, sınırlı olumlu tanımlarından birisi ise Wittgenstein’ın tavşanördek görseline (T-Ö kafası) dayanır. Buna göre, metaforlar bir şeyi görmeyi değil ama bir şeyi, başka bir şey olarak-görmeyi sağlar. Dolayısıyla olarak-görme metaforu açıklamak için iyi bir yoldur. Bu çalışmada, Davidson’ın metafor kuramının ana hatlarını verdikten sonra, onun üç önemli özelliği bağlamında bir inceleme yapacağım. İlki, metaforla benzetme/benzerlik ilişkileri ve bunlarla ilgili sorunlardır. Diğeri metaforu olarak-görme ile açıklamanın sorunlarıdır. Sonuncusu ise metaforun tek anlamlı olduğu savıyla ilgilidir. Bu savın sorunlu yanlarına rağmen, semantik ve pragmatik metafor kuramları kadar iyi çalışan bir özellikte olduğunu göstermeye çalışacağım. Bununla birlikte, çoğunlukla, Davidson’ın kendi anlam kuramıyla ve başka metafor kuramlarıyla ilişkileri de göstermeyi deneyeceğim. (shrink)

Eğitimle ilgili faaliyetleri kapsayan öğretim programları, dinamik bir özelliğe sahip olup çağdaş geliş me ve ihtiyaçlar doğrultusunda geliştirme süreci içerisindendir. Bu anlayışla ülkemizde, Türkiye Yüz yılı Maarif Modeli (TYMM) vizyonuyla tüm derslerin öğretim programları değiştirilmiş ve kademeli bir şekilde uygulamaya konulmuştur. Öğretim programlarının sistematik, bilimsel ve koordineli bir şekilde geliştirilmesi önemli olmakla birlikte; programların, uygulayıcısı olan öğretmenlerin görüşleri doğrultusunda değerlendirilmesi, yetersiz ve aksayan yönlerinin belirlenip düzeltilmesi de gerekir. Bu kapsamda çalışma, öğretmenlerin TYMM Din Kültürü ve Ahlak Bilgisi (DKAB) dersi öğretim (...) program larına yönelik görüş ve deneyimlerini belirlemek ve değerlendirmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma nın, TYMM DKAB öğretim programlarıyla ilgili olası problem, eksiklik ve ihtiyaçların belirlenmesine ve programların bilimsel zeminde güncellenmesine katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Araştırma, nitel yöntemlerden durum çalışması desenine göre tasarlanmıştır. Tabakalı amaçlı örnekleme yönte miyle seçilen araştırmanın çalışma grubunu; Türkiye’nin yedi farklı bölgesindeki dokuz ilden 9’u orta okul ve 9’u lisede çalışan toplam 18 DKAB öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada, veri toplama aracı olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu geliştirilmiş ve form aracılığıyla katılımcılara sorular yön lendirilmiştir. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler üzerinde içerik analizi yapılmış ve program ögeleri dikkate alınarak dört temaya ulaşılmıştır. Bu temalar; hedef, içerik, öğrenme öğretme süreci ve ölçme değerlendirme olarak belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak öğretmenlerin TYMM DKAB öğretim programlarıy la ilgili olumlu bir algıya sahip oldukları fakat uygulama süreçlerinde programların boyutlarıyla ilgili çeşitli sorunlarla karşılaştıkları tespit edilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, İmam Hatip Lisesi öğrencilerinin İmam Hatip Lisesi, İmam Hatip Lisesi meslek dersi öğretmeni ve İmam Hatip Lisesi idaresine ilişkin algılarını metaforlar yoluyla tespit etmektir. Araştırma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden fenomenolojik (olgubilim) desende tasarlanmıştır. Amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme yoluyla belirlenen çalışma grubu, 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında 5 farklı İmam Hatip Lisesinde 9. ve 12. sınıfta öğrenim gören 412 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri katılımcıların, “İmam Hatip Lisesi…gibidir; çünkü…”, “İmam Hatip Lisesi Meslek dersi öğretmeni… gibidir; çünkü…”, “İmam Hatip Lisesi idaresi…gibidir; (...) çünkü…” cümlelerini tamamlamaları yoluyla toplanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde tümevarımcı içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. İçerik analizi sonucu oluşturulan temalar/kategoriler SPSS programında frekans, yüzde ve çapraz tablo olarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucuna göre, öğrencilerin “imam hatip lisesi” ile “imam hatip lisesi meslek dersleri öğretmenlerine” ilişkin algılarının olumlu olduğu, fakat İmam Hatip Lisesi idarecilerine ilişkin algılarının ise olumsuz olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanında erkek öğrencilerin, imam hatip ortaokulundan mezun öğrencilerin ve 9. Sınıf öğrencilerinin metaforik algılarının daha olumlu olduğu görülmüştür. Özet: Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, İmam Hatip Lisesi öğrencilerinin İmam Hatip Lisesi, İmam Hatip Lisesi meslek dersi öğretmeni ve İmam Hatip Lisesi idaresine ilişkin algılarını metaforlar yoluyla tespit etmektir. Türk eğitim sistemi içerisinde yer alan İmam Hatip Liseleri 1924 yılında açılmış, hem mesleğe hem de yükseköğretime öğrenci yetiştiren bir ortaöğretim kurumudur. Öğretim programında yer alan derslerin ortalama %40’ı dini mesleki dersler, %60’ı ise kültür derslerinden oluşmaktadır. Meslek derslerini meslek dersleri öğretmenleri vermektedir. Bu okulların yönetiminde, meslek dersi öğretmenlerinin yanında farklı branşlara ait idareciler de bulunmaktadır. Türkiye’de 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılı itibariyle ortaöğretime devam eden öğrencilerin %11’i bu okulları tercih etmektedir. Bu araştırma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden fenomenolojik (olgubilim) desende tasarlanmıştır. Amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme yoluyla belirlenen çalışma grubu, 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında 5 farklı İmam Hatip Lisesinde 9. ve 12. sınıfta öğrenim gören 412 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri nitel araştırmada veri toplama tekniği olarak kullanılan metaforlar yoluyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri katılımcıların, “İmam Hatip Lisesi…gibidir; çünkü…”, “İmam Hatip Lisesi Meslek dersi öğretmeni… gibidir; çünkü…”, “İmam Hatip Lisesi idaresi…gibidir; çünkü…” cümlelerini tamamlamaları yoluyla elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde tümevarımcı içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. İçerik analizi sonucu oluşturulan temalar/kategoriler (olumlu-olumsuz) SPSS programında frekans, yüzde ve çapraz tablo olarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada, öğrencilerin, İmam Hatip Lisesine ilişkin 140, meslek dersi öğretmenlerine ilişkin 147, idarecilere ilişkin 161 metafor ürettikleri görülmüştür. Ürettikleri metaforların analiz edilmesi sonucunda, temelde olumlu ve olumsuz olmak üzere iki kategoride toplandığı anlaşılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin ortalama üçte ikisi (%63,3) İmam Hatip Lisesine ilişkin olumlu metafor (93) üretirken, üçte biri (%36,7) ise olumsuz (47) metafor üretmiştir. Olumlu olarak üretilen metaforlar içerisinde en sık tekrarlanan metaforların “Evimiz (33/%8,01)”, “Aile ( 24/% 5,83) ve “Kur’an Kursu (14/%3,40)” metaforlarının olduğu; olumsuz olarak en sık tekrarlanan metaforların ise “Cezaevi/hapishane (76/%18,45)”, “Düz lise (12/%18,45)”, “Kötü bir yer (6/%6)” şeklinde olduğu görülmüştür. Bu bulgulara göre öğrencilerin yarıdan fazlasının İmam Hatip Lisesine ilişkin olumlu metaforik algıya sahip oldukları söylenebilir. Araştırmada kız öğrencilerin erkek öğrencilere göre İmam Hatip Lisesini daha fazla olumsuz algıladıkları görülmüştür. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin dörtte üçü (%77,4) meslek dersi öğretmenlerine ilişkin olumlu (98) metafor üretirken, beşte birlik kısmın (%22,6) ise olumsuz (49) metafor ürettikleri belirlenmiştir. Olumlu olarak üretilen metaforlar içerisinde en sık tekrarlanan metaforların “İyi biri (34/%8,25)”, “Abla-abi (32/%7,77)”, “Aile (31/%7,52)”, metaforlarının olduğu; olumsuz olarak en sık tekrarlanan metaforların ise “Kötü biri (10/%2,42)”, “Diğer öğretmen (7/%1,70)”, “Sıkıcı (6/%1,46)” şeklinde olduğu görülmüştür. Bu bulgu öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğunun meslek dersi öğretmenlerine ilişkin olumlu metaforik algıya sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin üçte biri (%35) idarecilere ilişkin olumlu (67) metafor üretirken, üçte ikisinin (%65) ise olumsuz (94) metafor ürettikleri belirlenmiştir. Olumlu olarak üretilen metaforlar içerisinde en sık tekrarlanan metaforun “Aile (22/%5,34)”, “İyi biri (14/%3,40))”, “Disiplinli (7/%1,70)” metaforlarının olduğu; olumsuz olarak en sık tekrarlanan metaforların ise “Gardiyan (32/%7,77)”, “Aşırı disiplinli (30/%7,28)”, “Kötü (30/%7,28)” şeklinde olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin oluşturduğu diğer metaforların “diktatör, baskıcı, polis, hapishane, hapishane müdürü, sert, baskıcı baba, mahkeme salonu, komutan, dedektif, askerlik” gibi baskı ifade eden metaforlar olması dikkat çekicidir. Bu veriler idarecilerin öğrencilerin yarıdan fazlası tarafından olumsuz olarak algılandığı; idarecilerin öğrencilerin zihninde baskı yapan eğitimci imajı bıraktığı söylenebilir. Araştırmada kız öğrencilerin (%77) erkek öğrencilere (%41,3) göre okul idaresini daha fazla olumsuz algıladıkları görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak, İHL öğrencilerinin okullarına ve meslek dersi öğretmenlerine ilişkin metaforik algılarının olumlu yönde olduğu, fakat okul idarecilerine karşın olumsuz olduğu görülmektedir. Bu bağlamda öğrencilerin idareci algıları üzerine farklı çalışmaların yapılması gerektiği söylenebilir. (shrink)

The aim of this study is to determine the use of the blackboard by teachers of Islamic Culture and Ethics. For this purpose, the views and practices of the teachers regarding the use of the blackboard were examined. The study is important as it was conducted through a combination of interviews and observations and contributes to the literature on the subject. A case study design, which is one of the qualitative methods, was used in the study. The study was conducted (...) with nine Islamic Culture and Ethics teachers selected through purposive sampling method in the center of Bitlis province and in six middle schools. A semi-structured interview form and an observation form developed by the researcher were used as data collection tools in the study. The data obtained from the interviews and observations were analyzed for content and presented in table format and interpreted. The study findings reached themes related to blackboard usage education, usage purpose, usage principles, usage self-efficacy, usage frequency, and usage problems. As a result, the teachers considered themselves sufficient in terms of blackboard usage and had not participated in any training related to blackboard usage. Teachers used the blackboard mainly to add visuality to the lesson, attract attention, provide instant additional and summary information, ensure permanence of knowledge, and activate teachers and students. Teachers frequently used the blackboard in their lessons. However, since teachers used the blackboard without paying attention to usage principles and in an unplanned manner, they encountered various problems related to classroom management such as noise, disinterest, and time loss, and could not benefit from the blackboard at a sufficient level. Nevertheless, it was observed that teachers' use of the blackboard in class added visuality and liveliness to the lesson, attracted the attention and interest of the students, supported teacher explanations, facilitated lesson follow-up, provided a common working area for teachers and students, and supported other educational tools used in the lesson. It is recommended that in-service trainings based on effective use of the blackboard be provided to teachers by experts in the field. (shrink)

What was the point of view of the Ottoman thinkers or scholars in general to philosophy and in particular to subjects of the philosophy of religion and to philosophers? In Ottoman, what was the existence and level of philosophy according to the other sciences? These kinds of questions have been frequently asked by those who deal with philosophy. The answers given to these questions are as important as at least the questions. To discuss such an important subject, what we need (...) is to accept scientific issues as basis. To answer these questions together with a different motivation which is far from scientific methods may lead us to a vicious circle. The first thing of this kind of scientific attitude is to examine the Ottoman thinkers’ studies and try to understand them. General aim of this article is to shed a light to these discussions and in particular, to understand the approach of Harputlu Ishak Efendi to some issues of the philosophy of religion and his attitude towards some philosophers. Öz Makalemizin konusu insanlığın kadim sorunlarından biri olan kötülük sorununu yirminci yüzyılın önemli filozoflarından biri olan Charles Hartshorne’un neoklasik teizmi çerçevesinde ele almaktır. Kötülük problemi elbette yeni bir problem değildir. Önemli olan ve aradığımız şey ise böylesine eski bir problem karşısında yeni bir şey duymak ya da söylemektir. Tarih boyunca birçok filozof ve teoloğun bu probleme dair ortaya koydukları açıklamalardan farklı olarak Hartshorne’un bizi heyecanlandıran tarafı hem zamanımıza çok yakın bir zamanda yaşaması hem de meseleye oldukça farklı bir bakış açısı (...) ile bakmasıdır. Hartshorne metafizik ve din felsefesi üzerine yaptığı çalışmalarla oldukça dikkat çekmiş bir filozoftur. Süreç teizmi çerçevesinde ortaya koyduğu farklı Tanrı tasavvuru ile âlemdeki kötülüğü uzlaştırmaya çalışan Hartshorne’un söyledikleri eleştirebilecek yönlere sahip olsa da üzerinde durulmaya ve konuşulmaya değer olduğu kanaatindeyiz. Hartshorne’un fikirleri daha hayatta iken tartışma konusu olmuştur ve günümüzde düşünceleri üzerine makaleler, tezler yazılmaya devam etmektedir. Hartshorne birçok konuyla ilgilense de onun özel ilgisi Tanrı ve Tanrı’nın âlemle olan ilişkisine yönelik olmuştur. Onun bu konudaki sorgulamaları onu yirminci yüzyıl din felsefesinde en etkili akımlardan biri olan süreç teolojisi ya da süreç teizmi olarak bilinen akımın başlıca temsilcilerinden biri yapmıştır. Hartshorne’u önemli kılan şeylerin başında bilimin zirvede olduğu yüzyılda Tanrı-âlem ilişkisine getirdiği yeni metafizik açıklamadır. Bu açıklama temelde Tanrı ve âlemin dinamik ve karşılıklı olarak zenginleşen bir ilişki içinde olduğunu, Tanrı’nın âleme içkin ve bir şekilde bağımlı olduğunu savunur. Kötülük konusunda süreç felsefesinin geleneksel açıklamalara karşı temel eleştirisi, Tanrı’nın kudreti ile ilgilidir. Süreç felsefesi Tanrı’nın dünyadaki bütün süreçleri ayrıntıları ile kontrol ettiği görüşünü kabul etmez. Kötülük reel olup varlıklar arasındaki uyumsuzluktan, amaç çatışmasından ve varlıkların kendilerine sunulan imkânları reddetme özgürlüğüne sâhip olmalarından kaynaklanmaktadır. Özgür olarak karar verme ve sosyal dayanışma zorunluluğu hem iyiliğin hem de kötülüğün dayandığı zemindir. Bu bakımdan, âlemde var olan kötülüğün bütünüyle ortadan kaldırılması söz konusu olamaz. Hartshorne, ibadete layık bir Tanrı tasavvurunu kabul etse de sahip olduğu süreç metafiziği düşüncesi ve kötülük probleminin bir sonucu olarak, Tanrı'nın sınırsız gücünü reddetmek durumunda kalmıştır. Hartshorne'nun sahip olduğu süreç teolojisinin Tanrı tasavvurunda Tanrı’nın her şeyi bilmesi âlemle ve içindeki varlıklarla empati kurması olarak düşünülmüştür. Tanrı âlemde yarattığı varlıkların acılarına ve mutluluklarına ortak olan bir varlık olarak tasavvur edilmiştir. Süreç teizmine göre hem Tanrı hem de insan seçimlerinde özgür varlıklardır. Hem ortaya çıkacak eylemlerin hem de olayların öngörülemez bir şekilde belirlendiği fikri bu teolojide kabul görmemiştir. Tanrı dünya için çeşitli olasılıklar sunmuş ve ortaya çıkan her olay bu olasılıkların kendi içindeki özel durumlara göre gerçekleşmektedir. Yani âlemde determinizm yoktur ve insan özgürdür. Bu özgürlük sayesinde Tanrı âlemde ortaya çıkan kötülüğün nedeni olarak görülemez. (shrink)

Anthony Kenny asserted that none of the traditional arguments regarding the existence of God can be taken as evidence and that the traditional concept of God is inconsistent in every case. Kenny, who identifies himself as agnostic, believes that it’s not possible to know the existence of God. However, he also dismisses the claims which state that it’s possible to know the non-existence of God. On the other hand, asserting that it’s impossible to know the God, Kenny thinks that the (...) concept of God is the single greatest creation of human imagination and for this reason alone is enough for humans not to be indifferent to this concept. Moreover, he states that although the existence or absence of God cannot be known, belief in God is a rational belief. Kenny's basic assertions are that the arguments put forward to claim knowing God are not persuasive and that it is a mistake to acknowledge agnosticism as a diluted form of atheism. In this paper, I argue that Dewey’s pragmatist aesthetics, and in particular, his concept of consummatory experience, should be engaged anew to rethink the merits of the Philosophy for Children programme, which arose in the 1970s in the US as an innovative educational programme that aims to use philosophy to help school children improve their ability to become more conscious of and make judgments about the aspects of their experience that have ethical, aesthetic, political, logical, or even metaphysical meaning. Although (...) an international success, the PFC programme has attracted many criticisms from a variety of directions. I claim that Deweyan concept of consummatory aesthetic experience is broad and flexible enough to provide a robust framework to make sense of the pedagogical horizon of PFC and therefore fruitfully engage the various critics of the movement coming from religious and social conservatives, educational psychologists, critical theorists, postmodernists/posthumanists, and professional philosophers themselves. The goal of this paper is to offer in a preliminary fashion the basic elements of Deweyan pragmatist aesthetics, which was principally elucidated in his Art as Experience, to defend PFC as a viable pedagogy. Bu makale de zamanın tanımlamasından ziyade onun üzerinde özellikle an kavramı merkezli bir düşünce etkinliği ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bilhassa zaman ve an kavramları arasındaki farka değinilmiştir. Zamanın hareketin olduğu yerde var olduğunu, anın ise hem hareketin hem de durağanlığın olduğu her yerde karşımıza çıktığını belirterek zamanın akışkan hayatı ölçülebilir kılma çabasında var oluşuyla, anın ise bu akışkanlığın her safhasında var olduğuna temas edilmiştir. Aynı zamanda anın varoluş ile mütemadiyen (...) yan yana olduğu, algılanışının ise bireylerin tecrübeleriyle zuhur ettiği görüşü ortaya konulmuştur. An’ın insan tecrübesiyle anlam kazanması ve insanın anı nasıl değerlendirmesi gerektiği hususunda konu, kanaatimizce Asr Suresi ve Hz. Peygamberin (s.a.v) buyruğu ile temellendirilmiştir. Bahsi geçen konu, çeşitli filozofların görüşleri ile de desteklenmiştir. Daha sonra makalemizde modern düşüncenin insanı anı kaliteli yaşamaktan ziyade daha iyi gelecek vaadiyle kaygı ve huzursuzluğa sevk ettiğini ifade ettik. Makalemizin sonunda ise İslam’ın bu modern düşüncenin aksine insana akışkanlık içerisinde yaşarken anın kendisine sunduğu akışkanlığın her bir aşamasını en güzel şekilde değerlendirmesini emrettiği ve onu değerli bir maden gibi tavında işlemesi gerektiği mesajıyla sonuçlandırdık. In this paper, an account of two novel ontologies is given to point to the need to revise the status of facts in school curriculum. It is argued that schooling is in dire need of re-enchantment. The way to re-enchant schooling is to re-enliven the world we inhabit. We need to fall head over heels in love with the world again. In order to do that, we need to shake up our conception of “the hard and cold facts of the (...) world” to make the latter come alive radiating vibrancy and luminosity out into the world. Facts have to be liberated from their “cold and hard” status and become things that captivate us with their uniqueness and dynamism. To the extent that facts enchant (instead of merely re/present the world), working with them leads to educative experience. To work out how to let the facts do that, two thinkers and two ways to reconceptualize ‘facts’ are discussed: Graham Harman and his objects, and Ken Wilber and his holons. (shrink)

In their defence of the school Jan Masschelein and Maarten Simons define it as a source of ‘free time.’ Drawing on Catherine Malabou's compelling reading of Heidegger in her The Heidegger Change, I aim to provide a strong ontological justification for the claims made on behalf of the school concerning free time, common goods, and renewing (changing) the world: the school provides free time; it transforms knowledge and skills into common goods; and it has the potential to give everyone the (...) time and space to renew the world. The paper enquires into what ‘free time as non-productive time,’ ‘common goods,’ and ‘changing the world’ mean on an ontological register, and why therefore the school is so precious and warrants our utmost care in the face of its conservative and progressive critics alike. I discern a single underlying notion, the notion of essence as mutability, constituting the link connecting free time, common goods, and renewal of the world. (shrink)

In this paper, I intend to discuss what I would like to call “the ideal of teaching as consummatory experience” in relation to John Dewey’s concept of “experience,” as the latter was elucidated in his later works, especially Art as Experience. What I have in mind with the phrase “the ideal of teaching as consummatory experience” basically points to what it means to be fully alive as a teacher and what happens when teaching is experienced in such a manner. In (...) other words, what is the relationship between teaching that is truly fulfilling for the teacher and experience that is truly educative for the student(s)? Many political and economic forces are driven by the desire to eliminate democratic plurality in today’s political juncture. Democratic republicanism itself in its contemporary forms has failed to address many of the daunting moral, political, economic, social, technological, and ecological challenges we face today. It is argued that to fulfill its essence of egalitarian freedom and social justice, democratic republicanism must first decouple from the global neoliberal capitalist regime and secondly embrace some form of postcapitalist and posthumanist orientation guided by (...) a new attractor, a teleological approach anchored in a new telos of superhumanity. Democracy without a telos of superhumanity is a democracy in name only. It is time to lay our teleophobia aside and propose a strong teleological account in the vein of a Buddhist no-self doctrine at the heart of the onto-politico-economy. (shrink)

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Murray Bookchin’in “toplumsal ekoloji” anlayışını açıklamaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda okuyucuya öncelikle ekolojik sorunlar ve ekoloji hareketinin tarihsel gelişimi hakkında genel bir içgörü kazandırmak adına açıklamalar sunacağız. Daha sonra Bookchin’in, ekoloji hareketini oluşturan farklı yaklaşımlara, Marksizm’e ve anarşizme yönelik ortaya koyduğu eleştirilerini, diyalektik doğalcılık öğretisini, hiyerarşi ve sınıf olgusu hakkında gerçekleştirdiği çözümlemelerini ve komünalist ideolojisini inceleyeceğiz. Devamında toplumsal ekolojiye yöneltilmiş olan eleştirileri aktaracak ve çalışmamızın ikincil amacını gerçekleştirmeye geçeceğiz. Bu amaç, Bookchin’in hiyerarşi olgusu hakkındaki çözümlemelerinin teorik zemininin (...) yetersizliğine dikkat çekmektir. Kanaatime göre Bookchin hiyerarşiyi tarihsel, antropolojik, ekonomik, sosyal, biyolojik, psikolojik ve politik bir kategori olarak ele almış ancak hiyerarşinin metafiziksel temelleri hakkında bir açıklama sunamamıştır. Bu durum Bookchin’in hiyerarşi ve devlet karşıtlığının dolayısıyla komünalist ideolojisinin açıklamaya muhtaç sorularla yüz yüze olduğu anlamına gelmektedir. Söz konusu sorular cevaplanmadığı takdirde toplumsal ekoloji anlayışını savunmanın sürdürülemez olduğunu iddia edeceğim. (shrink)

An intriguing interresonance plays out between various forms of Mahayana Buddhist ontology and Žižek’s dialectical materialism. His disdainful critique of Buddhism is well-known. As a cultural critic, Žižek might be onto something in his contention that Western Buddhism functions as the perfect ideology for late capitalism. As an ontologist, however, he seems to be ambivalent regarding the parallels between the Buddhist Void, to which the Western Buddhists supposedly withdraw, and his elaboration of a new foundation of dialectical materialism. Žižek is (...) one of the few contemporary continental philosophers who do not hesitate to engage Buddhism. My claim is that, notwithstanding his criticism, Žižek is much closer to Mahayana than he thinks. My aim therefore is to demonstrate how this is so. To do this, I will mainly focus on the following forms of Mahayana thought: śūnyatā in the context of Nāgārjuna's the Two-Truth doctrine, Tiantai School of Chinese Buddhist concept of li, and Nishida Kitarō’s philosophy of basho, which was heavily influenced by the Japanese Zen/Pure Land Buddhism. After going through some of the preliminary affinities among Mahayana forms and Žižek in its absolute contradiction, and materialism as the contradictory/paradoxical field conceived as an atheistic religious field, and so on), I will analyse each school of Mahayana mentioned above and point out the parallels between these and Žižek’s own thought. In this article, it is argued that the inordinate amount of time and attention given to the use of textbooks in education inadvertently leads to deadening miseducative experiences and creates a learning environment where what Dewey calls ‘consummatory experience’ is thwarted. In order to unpack this thesis, Dewey’s pragmatist aesthetics is engaged, and in particular, his concept of consummatory experience is defined and its temporal nature is elucidated by referring to two modes of time: chronological and phenomenological. This paper discusses the repercussions of a new metaphysics—speculative/weird realism—for education and pedagogy. A historic shift is taking place in present-day continental philosophy, which involves an explicit and renewed call for realism. One of the most salient features of this development is a revitalised interest in ontological questions. As part of this overall trend towards realist and materialist ontologies in current continental thinking, the paper particularly focuses on Graham Harman’s object-oriented ontology, which claims that aesthetics is first philosophy. Harman’s object-oriented (...) philosophy is an approach to metaphysics and ontology that is enamored by the experience of the vibrant yet inscrutable autonomous reality of objects. In order to come to terms with this new approach to reality, I suggest education be conceived as the cultivation of an aesthetic attitude understood as the ability to uphold the tension between relational and non-relational aspects of objects understood in the Harmanian idiom. This article is about a pedagogical movement I discern in Quentin Meillassoux’s ontology. The goal of the essay is to introduce his approach to reality in outline form and offer it as a possible route to conceptualize education as the practice of keeping the bodymind attentive and agile against its unsound ossification by way of providing a unified heightened sense of meaning, that is, consummatory experience, in a radically open and contingent world. Meillassoux offers a new conception of necessity and (...) contingency based on the Badioun principle that ‘nothing is inaccessible to reason.’ This move helps Meillassoux to claim that reason can access the absolute for there is no inaccessible necessary transcendence by providing an intriguing critique of the principle of sufficient reason. As a result, Meillassoux’s argument leads to the conclusion that the only necessity is contingency itself. By excluding any necessary being, but also maintaining the absolute necessity of contingency itself, Meillassoux establishes what he calls the “factial.” Meillassoux’s factiality induce pedagogical interventions that lead to acquiring a new point of view whereby ossification of bodymind is staved off and a state of mind that is endlessly fascinated by the immanence, or the most radical becoming, of the world is achieved. Changes and transformations in living conditions have brought about new risks. The risks associated with the unique economic, social and politic structure of each period also lead to changes in the understanding of social protection. International discourses and practices that outline the framework of international social protection take shape under the influence of thoughts considering the conditions of the period. In this sense, it is possible to assert that social protection approach of United Nations, as a strong and effective social (...) protection actor in the international platform, has changed. It is not possible to consider the creation and development of United Nations’ social protection policies without regarding a theoretical and philosophical ground. To this end, after making a general evaluation of the United Nations’ social protection ideology, this study discusses the social protection emphasis in United Nations documents as well as their development paths and changes happened in time. As a result of these considerations, this study reaches the conclusion that United Nations’ social protection ideology shows the necessary flexibility to adapt to changing socioeconomic conditions and takes into account individual and social needs without compromising the understanding of protecting basic human rights. Our understanding of the complexity of the oral biome and of the role of the various constituent bacteria in the aetiology of dental disease is growing. Probiotics and their relationship with prebiotics, as well as other microbiome‐based interventions, could be useful in preventing and treating dental disease and in promoting oral health. However, given the promise and early stage of this treatment approach, there are also a number of ethical, social and regulatory issues associated with innovative probiotic therapy. (...) In this article, a brief update is given on contemporary theories of the aetiology and management of the two commonest dental diseases, and on the roles of pre‐ and probiotics and oral biome transplant in the management of these diseases. The focus is primarily on four core issues: informed consent, risk–benefit assessment, how to determine suitable healthy donors, and commercialization and regulation. We discuss the safety and benefits of oral probiotics, not only concerning the products and quality control during their manufacture, but also regarding the depth of public knowledge about this topic. We point out that the requirement of listing ingredients honestly might be insufficient, and that the prevalent rhetoric of ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ as well as some health claims in the translational, innovative probiotic industry and markets are themselves misleading and should be carefully scrutinized. Finally, we suggest an ethical imperative to find a balance between scientific research and industry, and public health in the regulation of probiotics. (shrink)

Esta conferencia formó parte del encuentro “Archivos Sonoros y cultura popular” realizado el 17 de septiembre de 2019 en el marco del Coloquio sobre Memorias Populares organizado por Doctorado en Historia y la Maestría en Historia y Memoria de la FaHCE junto a la presencia del historiador italiano Alessandro Portelli. En dicha conferencia, las autoras presentaron el archivo oral “Memorias encontradas” de la Comisión por la Memoria (CPM). Por un lado, relataron la historia de la producción y recolección de (...) entrevistas surgidas a partir de los distintos trabajos de la CPM y, por el otro, reflexionaron sobre algunas particularidades de la serie “El archivo y el testigo”: el contexto de producción, el diálogo entre el relato oficial/policial y la voz de las y los testigos, los distintos modos de narrar, de contar.
