This study investigates the dynamic relationship between knowledge management systems, particularly emphasizing knowledge acquisition and dissemination, and their impact on academic staff's teaching motivation. By employing the Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF), data from 676 academic staff at higher education institutions in Vietnam was analyzed, revealing a complex interplay of factors. Notably, positive associations were found between knowledge acquisition, knowledge dissemination, and teaching motivation. However, the interaction effect of knowledge acquisition and knowledge dissemination appeared to be negatively associated with teaching motivation. (...) This suggests the possible existence of a resource curse of knowledge in improving staff’s teaching motivation. The results indicate that difference measure d, log-ratio measure r, and log-likelihood measure l are not affected by non-informative stopping rules, but affected by informative stopping rules. In contrast, Carnap measure $$\tau$$, normalized difference measure n, and Mortimer measure m are affected by (non-)informative stopping rules sometimes but sometimes aren’t. Freedom is intrinsic to a good life. An account of the Confucian conception of the good life must include a reasonable conception of freedom. Studies in Chinese ideas of freedom, however, have been focused mostly on Daoism. A quick survey of some fine books on Chinese philosophy shows little result on Confucian freedom.1 In this essay, I argue that attributing a notion of “free will” to Confucian philosophy has serious limitations; it will be more fruitful to draw on contemporary feminist (...) theories of freedom and autonomy, particularly the notion of autonomy competency, in explicating Confucian freedom. Rawlsian framework is based on a cooperation model, which takes a democratic society as a cooperation system. Such a conception of democracy not only obscures the distinction between democracy and despotism, but also makes it hard to argue for the superiority of democracy over despotism. This article develops a different model, the competition model, to explain the historical development towards democracy and to justify democracy as a social order superior to despotism. We posit and find evidence consistent with a new mechanism of intra-firm enforcement spillovers: the leakage of scarce compliance resources across facilities within a firm. Using a facility-level panel data set of Clean Air Act (CAA) enforcement actions from 2005 to 2017, we find a facility is more likely to violate the CAA following penalties on its same-industry-same-state siblings. In contrast, there is no significant spillover across firms. We show that the intra-firm spillover is not due to changes in regulatory (...) attention or production shifting. Instead, our results suggest it may result from the redeployment of scarce compliance resources across siblings. Consistent with this mechanism, we find compliance leakage only occurs at privately held firms and facilities that lack the resources to invest in pollution prevention. The findings contribute to understanding the efficacy of environmental enforcement and have important implications for intra-firm management of environmental performance and regulatory enforcement approaches. Familism, patriotism, and cosmopolitanism form three concentric circles in a person's life. Each of these respective human communities constitutes an independent good for the good life. The value of family life does not depend on the value of country, and the world. Nor does the value of patriotic life or cosmopolitan life depend on that of family life. Shifting allegiances between these circles entails reallocating loyalty and dedication, and thus both enriches one's life and incurs a cost to it. In (...) the view that I construct here, a philosophy of the good life articulates its own vision of the ideal allocation of loyalty and dedication among these three or more spheres. While cosmopolitanism has its own value and good, it also comes with a cost; proponents of cosmopolitanism-including Confucian cosmopolitansoften overlook such a cost. T. M. Scanlon’s contractualism is a meta-ethical theory that explains moral motivation and also provides a conception of how to carry out moral deliberation. It supports non-consequentialism – the theory that both consequences and deontological considerations are morally significant in moral deliberation. Regarding the issue of punishment, non-consequentialism allows us to take account of the need for deterrence as well as principles of fairness, justice, and even desert. Moreover, Scanlonian contractualism accounts for permissibility in terms of justifiability: An act is (...) permissible if and only if it can be justified to everyone affected by it. This contractualist thesis explains why it is always impermissible to frame an innocent person, why vicarious punishment is impermissible, and why there has to be a cap on sentences. Contractualism therefore allows us to take deterrence as a goal of punishment without the excess of utilitarianism. This paper further argue that the resulting view is superior to pure retributivism. Finally, it shows why legal excuses and mitigation can be justified in terms of the notion of negative desert. In this article, I elaborate on the approach to joy preserved in East Asian Yogācāra texts authored by Xuanzang and his disciple, Kuiji. I argue that these Yogācāra Buddhists propose a contextualist approach that does not presume joy to be an emotion with an essential property but rather perceives joy as always contextualized in lifeworlds at the personal and interpersonal levels. As such, Xuanzang and Kuiji outline two contrasting pictures of joy to capture how it is experienced in the lifeworld (...) of ignorance and the lifeworld of wisdom, respectively. Upon delineating what joy is and how it is experienced, I continue to explore what joy can promise. Since joy does not have an inherent property, people can always make a collaborative effort to recontextualize joy for inclusion and emancipation. As such, I hope to draw on the Yogācāra analysis of joy to enrich the feminist discussion on happiness. (shrink)

In recent years, many studies have been done to identify the factors that affect teacher emotions at schools. However, the empirical evidence on how teachers’ emotions influence students’ outcomes and performance is not extensive. Against this background, this study explored the correlation between teacher EI and student academic achievement and possible mechanisms may lie in this relationship. A sample of 365 Chinese teachers from 25 public middle schools participated in this study by completing measurements of teacher EI, teacher work engagement, (...) and teacher self-efficacy. The student academic achievement was assessed by the grades of the previous term reported by the students. The results indicated that teacher work engagement partially mediated the path from teacher EI and student academic achievement. Moderated mediation further showed that teachers with high self-efficacy had a more significant positive impact on the relationship between teacher work engagement and student academic achievement than teachers with low self-efficacy. Husserl’s phenomenology aims to obtain knowledge about the essential structure of consciousness and its various subtypes, and how different types of objects appear in consciousness. On a classic reading, such knowledge requires adequate evidence and apodictic evidence, which are absolutely certain or infallible. However, a trend has emerged to question this classic reading and to embrace a radically fallibilist reading of Husserl’s theory of evidence instead. A core component of this reading is that adequate evidence and apodictic evidence are either (...) non-actual, or, even if they exist, are fallible. This paper aims to resist this radical fallibilist reading and reaffirm the classic reading. In this paper, I criticize two main arguments for the radical fallibilist reading. I also examine frequently cited texts that seem to strongly favor the fallibilist reading and show that they do not serve the intended purpose. I further show that although Husserl later has refined his earlier theory of evidence, he never reversed his earlier basic position. For Husserl, adequate evidence and apodictic evidence can be difficult to achieve. However, they can be sometimes achieved in immanent perception and eidetic analysis; when achieved, they are infallible. (shrink)

Traffic congestion is a common problem in many countries, especially in big cities. At present, China’s urban road traffic accidents occur frequently, the occurrence frequency is high, the accident causes traffic congestion, and accidents cause traffic congestion and vice versa. The occurrence of traffic accidents usually leads to the reduction of road traffic capacity and the formation of traffic bottlenecks, causing the traffic congestion. In this paper, the formation and propagation of traffic congestion are simulated by using the improved medium (...) traffic model, and the control strategy of congestion dissipation is studied. From the point of view of quantitative traffic congestion, the paper provides the fact that the simulation platform of urban traffic integration is constructed, and a feasible data analysis, learning, and parameter calibration method based on RBF neural network is proposed, which is used to determine the corresponding decision support system. The simulation results prove that the control strategy proposed in this paper is effective and feasible. According to the temporal and spatial evolution of the paper, we can see that the network has been improved on the whole. (shrink)

This paper presents a thematic review of the anti-plagiarism instruction of content specialists as reported in a range of articles published in the decade of 2014–2023. A total of 28 articles were identified through systematic searching and a ChatGPT-assisted selection process based on a set of inclusion criteria. Specifically, we aimed to include those articles that contain sufficient details of the instructional procedure as well as an evidence-based report of the effectiveness of the pedagogical intervention. A coding scheme of two (...) dimensions (“Rationales for the pedagogical interventions” and “Characteristics of the pedagogical interventions”) provided a framework for our analysis of the focal literature. By focusing on content teachers’, as opposed to language teachers’, pedagogical practices in addressing the issue of plagiarism in varied geographical and institutional contexts, this review study provides insights for both content and language specialists to draw upon and will serve to raise awareness for the value of collaboration between content and language teachers in handling academic literacy issues such as plagiarism. Associations between screen time and mental health may be driven by increased use in young people with heightened symptoms as a means of modifying negative mood. However, the direct effect of technology use on mood remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of active and passive social media use on an induced sad or neutral mood by randomising young people (16–24 years; N = 116) to a sad or neutral mood induction task and assessing mood after being instructed (...) to engage in active or passive social media use. We found both active and passive social media use alleviated sad mood but had no effect on neutral mood. Active social media use was associated with functional emotion regulation strategies relative to passive social media use. These findings suggest a possible beneficial effect of social media use on sad mood, however, longer-term effects on mental health are yet to be determined. (shrink)

Dunhuang is the world's largest, longest-lasting, and most valuable cultural and artistic treasure of ancient murals and an important component of grotto art. The clothing and costumes of the Dunhuang murals reflect the process of Sinicization of Buddhism over the time. In order to save the costumes of these murals from deterioration and age-related factors, digital technology is used, which can not only save the precious cultural relics but also ensure their permanent and authentic preservation. This study takes the vestment (...) on the imperial mural of the Vimala Kirti Sutra of Cave No. 220 in the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, China, as the research object. Firstly, it studied the detailed components, materials, colors, heraldic symbols, meanings, and aesthetic characteristics of mural vestments from the perspective of clothing history. Then, it restored the clothing patterns in the murals using digital technology, established the three-dimensional clothing model on the CLO 3D platform, and carried out the 3D digital restoration of the research object. In order to verify the accuracy of the restoration results, the analytic hierarchy process and the entropy method were comprehensively used to determine the subjective and objective weights of the indexes, and the comprehensive weights were corrected based on the idea of game theory. Finally, fuzzy comprehensive evaluation was used for the restoration results. According to the final calculation result of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, the restoration result was considered “good” with an overall evaluation score of 80.35. One of the greatest challenges of this project revolved around recovering the dilapidated mural paintings using digital technology. The high precision of the digital restoration of the vestment showcases the three-dimensional dynamic appearance of the Tang Dynasty emperors. This not only facilitates the education and propagation of traditional costume culture but also offers a novel approach to the sustainable display of mural cultural heritage. (shrink)

Inappropriate behaviors in peer review may involve bullying and can have negative effects on authors and the dissemination of knowledge. In this paper, we have discussed the causes, forms, harms, and potential mitigation measures of bullying in peer review. We call for attention to these behaviors and advocate for future research within a reasonable framework.

This research examines the effect of an individual difference variable that reflects the extent to which one desires positive evaluations from others—that is, face consciousness on consumer energy-saving behavior—as well as the mechanism through which the effect occurs and conditions under which it varies. Drawing upon the means-end theory of lifestyles, we propose that face consciousness increases a status-seeking lifestyle and thus decreases energy-saving behavior. Moreover, the negative relationship between status-seeking lifestyle and energy-saving behavior is contingent upon a perceived seriousness (...) of environmental problems and perceived environmental responsibility, such that the indirect and negative effect of such face consciousness is stronger for consumers who perceive less serious environmental problems and less environmental responsibility. Results from an experimental study and a field study using samples of Chinese consumers provide consistent evidence for the hypothesized model. Over the past decade, institutional theory has been extensively utilized in the field of social entrepreneurship (SE). However, an encompassing overview of the wide-ranging applications of institutional theory to SE is lacking, potentially hampering academic advances in this domain. To fill this gap, we conduct a systematic review and supplementary bibliometric analysis of 148 papers published between 2008 and 2022 to comprehensively understand the nexus of SE and institutional theory while also outlining the integration of ethics herein. Our analysis shows (...) that the existing research is divided into three clusters, reflecting three unique conversations between SE and institutional theory: institutional and societal change through SE, institutional complexity and hybrid organizations, and the institutional context of SE. We find that ethics is only integrated into these conversations to a limited degree. Based on our analysis, we zoom in on each conversation to identify the existing research gaps and point to new opportunities for future research. We also encourage SE scholars to zoom out on the abovementioned conversations to enrich this promising field by critically examining ethics and incorporating relevant insights from other research fields (i.e., social movement theory, category, and emotions). Polysemy has recently emerged as a popular topic in philosophy of language. While much existing research focuses on the relatedness among senses, this article introduces a novel perspective that emphasizes the continuity of sense individuation, sense regularity, and sense productivity. This new perspective has only recently gained traction, largely due to advancements in computational linguistics. It also poses a serious challenge to semantic minimalism, so I present three arguments against minimalism from the continuous perspective that touch on the minimal concept, (...) the distinction from homonymy, and the quasi‐rule‐like nature of polysemy. In the 1830s and 1840s, animal transportation by rail and steamer gradually replaced traditional long-distance droving in Britain. Responding to the posthumanist calls for critical attention to the experience of nonhuman actors in history, this article first explores how each aspect of this new mode of transportation affected the bodily experience of the animals, including their embarkation, stowage, ventilation and other uses of equipment fitted on the vessel, the provision of care, and disembarkation. It then discusses how those people who (...) were affected by witnessing the animals’ experience responded to it in light of two contributory factors: first, the outbreak of cattle plague in 1865 and, second, the growing calls for greater humanity to animals. In conclusion, the article summarizes the legislative advances that were made in pursuit of this humanitarian aim by reviewing the first and last pieces of relevant legislation that were passed prior to the First World War—the 1870 Transit of Animals Order and the 1912 Animals (Transit and General) Order. The article further illustrates how the simple logic of paying attention and responding to the experience of other lifeworlds helped establish the first milestones in animal transit legislation in the age of steam transport. Relevance of Sikh philosophy in 21st century; articles.

The preservation of historical archives is inherently linked to human memory, raising profound philosophical and theological questions about authenticity, truth, and the transmission of sacred and historical knowledge. While vivid oral narratives and reference data contribute to a more comprehensive collective memory, the reliability of historical records remains shaped by subjective cognition and sociocultural influences. This study examines the philosophical and religious dimensions of historical authenticity by analyzing the interplay between human memory, archival preservation, and epistemological trust. A human memory (...) coding scale is developed, incorporating subjective intentionality and objective influences, alongside a multi-level framework for assessing historical authenticity from macro, meso, and micro perspectives. Using historical collections from museums in Province D as a case study, Pearson’s correlation coefficient is applied to explore the relationship between human memory and historical truth, while regression models assess the impact of memory distortion on archival integrity. Findings indicate that the correlation between human memory and the authenticity of historical records is significantly negative at the 1%–10% level, with deliberate forgetting (O2) exerting the greatest influence. The study argues that the transmission of historical and religious knowledge is not merely a technical challenge but also a metaphysical and ethical concern, as collective memory shape’s cultural identity, spiritual heritage, and theological interpretation. To mitigate distortions, the research advocates for the integration of digital preservation technologies, enhanced historical evaluation mechanisms, and a theological-philosophical discourse on truth, memory, and divine testimony. Future studies should further investigate how religious traditions, faith-based historiography, and sacred narratives influence perceptions of historical authenticity and the construction of collective memory. Moral injury is a significant issue for healthcare workers, often stemming from exposure to ethical dilemmas and distressing events. This study aims to explore the relationship between moral injury and healthcare workers’ career calling, using the job demands-resources model as a theoretical framework. The goal is to understand how moral injury affects healthcare workers’ sense of purpose and vocation and identify factors that may mitigate this impact. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with a sample of 506 Chinese healthcare workers. The (...) study used self-report questionnaires to assess moral injury, authentic self-expression, self-compassion, ethical leadership, and career calling. Path analysis was used to test the proposed mediating and moderating relationships within the job demands-resources model. Moral injury has a negative effect on healthcare workers’ career calling. This effect is mediated by authentic self-expression – the inability to openly discuss moral distress weakens the sense of purpose. Self-compassion and ethical leadership buffer against the negative impact of moral injury on career calling. This research contributes to the understanding of moral injury and career calling in healthcare workers, with practical implications for safeguarding healthcare professionals’ well-being and commitment to their vocation. Recently, convergence liberals, such as Kevin Vallier, argue that the principle of social insurance could be publicly justified. Our paper challenges this marriage of convergence liberalism and welfare state. We begin by examining Vallier’s three reasons for the principle of social insurance: risk aversion, injustice and the promotion of political trust. We then argue that all these reasons are intelligibly objectionable. After examining five possible responses that convergence liberals may offer, this paper concludes that the principle of social insurance is (...) not conclusively justified in the convergence conception of public justification. In the team context, leaders usually develop differentiated leader-member exchange relationships with employees, resulting in some employees having relatively inferior relationships with the leader than others. Nevertheless, how and when employees with low relative leader-member exchange (RLMX) relationships react toward the leader have been rarely considered in empirical research. Drawing upon social comparison theory, we develop a cross-level moderated mediation model to examine how and when RLMX may lead to employee’s unethical pro-leader behavior (UPLB). We propose that employees with low (...) RLMX would feel envy which in turn motivates them to engage in UPLB in order to gain the rewards and resources that are distributed by the leader. Further, we argue that envy is less likely to motivate low RLMX employees to engage in UPLB when distributive justice climate is high, because high distributive justice indicates that rewards and resources are distributed fairly (based on work contribution rather than engaging in unethical behaviors that please the leader). Data were obtained from 504 employees in 102 divisional teams in a large retail corporation at three time points. Results of the multilevel moderated mediation analysis show that envy mediates the effect of RLMX on UPLB and that the indirect relationship is moderated by team-level distributive justice climate. These findings suggest the importance of adopting a social comparison perspective to understand the negative consequences of RLMX via emotional mechanisms. (shrink)

Combine the application of digital media in the inheritance and innovation of Yong opera music, according to the categories of new media, the way (...) of intersection and the influence on the dissemination of Yong opera music. Field research on the level of inheritance and innovation of Yong opera music reveals that 55% lack of young audience and 45% lack of innovative elements are the main dilemmas facing the inheritance of Yong opera music. In addition, the single way of inheritance is also a problem that cannot be ignored. When exploring innovative ways, digital recording and dissemination has a high support rate of 70%, and fusion with modern music elements, cross-border cooperation and innovative network promotion strategies are also highly recognized. Therefore, this paper proposes to strengthen digital recording and protection, digital publishing and dissemination, innovative network promotion strategies and marketing methods, implement the development strategy of Yongju opera music, and integrate the artistic characteristics of Yongju opera music into the network promotion strategy, so as to attract more young audiences and promote its sustainable development, and to ensure that the unique charms of Yongju opera music can be inherited for a long time. Cultural heritage preservation, as the approach is known, and the enduring role it plays in safeguarding the culture and cultural values of Shanxi Opera is becoming even more important these days. Despite uncertainty and apprehension about utilising artificial intelligence, this matter is worth scrutiny in relation to the field of opera music. This may be so, as apart from these two occurrences, this field does not receive mention. This research aims to explore the effect of AI as a conduit for (...) message emulation between the Shanxi Opera tradition and the preservation of heritage and the opera music genre. The study employed a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, which used the survey data and cultural heritage preservation and opera music experts' perception data. I then employed partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to interpret existing AI utilisation and to understand the role of AI as a mediator in this scenario. The outcome of the study implies that the existence of AI will not only boost the contribution of cultural heritage conservation but also positively impact the early stages of the contemporary revival of Shanxi Opera music. AI not only helps in heritage preservation but also makes it easier to include modern audiences. It introduces new musical trends and styles that are more engaging with the current audience. This paper lays out certain practical applications of artificial intelligence AI as a key to appreciating the human cultural heritage. It is the AI-driven contribution to opera music superiority that stands as the hallmark of technology. The outcomes showcase a one-of-a-kind perspective that indicates the ability of policymakers, cultural heritage preservers, and opera commuters to bridge the gap between traditional and modern technologies through AI. Research has stressed the essence of enlisting AI as a typical tool today to preserve cultural heritage. This, in turn, largely contributes to the development of dramatic genres such as opera. As climate change intensifies, climate risk has become an unavoidable factor in corporate operations and has a significant impact on corporate environmental management activities. This paper takes China’s Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2022 as a sample to empirically analyze the impact of Confucian culture on corporate environmental information disclosure quality under the background of climate risk. The research found that: (1) Confucian culture mainly drives the improvement of the quality of corporate environmental information disclosure through (...) two channels: promoting taking sustainability certification and improving public environmental concerns, (2) climate risk has a positive regulatory effect on the role of Confucian culture, (3) the driving role of Confucian culture in improving the quality of corporate environmental information disclosure is more obvious in non-state-owned enterprises, companies with good operating conditions, low levels of industry competition, and in regions with a low degree of openness to overseas. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into environmental information disclosure systems and informal systems of culture. (shrink)
