    Maximizing Wealth by Forgiving Debts.Ralph Hurd Brubaker - 2019 - Revue D’Études Benthamiennes 15.

Only a negative fundamental option, that is, the engagement of man's core awareness and freedom, can bring about the reality known as mortal sin.

  7. I Wrote this Paper for the Lulz: the Ethics of Internet Trolling.Ralph DiFranco - 2020 - Ethical Theory and Moral Practice 23 (5):931-945.
Over the last decade, research on derogatory communication has focused on ordinary speech contexts and the use of conventional pejoratives, like slurs. However, the use of social media has given rise to a new type of derogatory behavior that theorists have yet to address: internet trolling. Trolls make online utterances aiming to frustrate and offend other internet users. Their ultimate goal is amusement derived from observing a good faith interlocutor engage with their provocative posts. The basis for condemning a pejorative (...)

Can God Be Named by Us? Prolegomena to Thomistic Philosophy of Religion.Ralph McInerny - 1978 - Review of Metaphysics 32 (1):53 - 73.
The context is the first part of the Summa theologiae, and it is question 13 of that part which takes up the topic of the names of God. Since God has been the subject of discussion throughout the preceding twelve questions, we might think that the concerns of question 13 are tardily introduced. Should not problems associated with talking about God preface the Summa? Does not my subtitle, by suggesting that we are concerned with matters on the threshold of philosophy (...)

n this article the author analyzes the different ways in which one can speak of an end of philosophy. He (she) shows the way in which the key to the continuation of philosophy in our days is only attainable through the overcoming of sophistry and skepticism.

Attention, saccade programming, and the timing of eye-movement control.Ralph Radach, Heiner Deubel & Dieter Heller - 2003 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 26 (4):497-498.
E-Z Reader achieves an impressive fit of empirical eye movement data by simulating core processes of reading in a computational approach that includes serial word processing, shifts of attention, and temporal overlap in the programming of saccades. However, when common assumptions for the time requirements of these processes are taken into account, severe constraints on the time line within which these elements can be combined become obvious. We argue that it appears difficult to accommodate these processes within a largely sequential (...)

Top-down influences on saccade generation in cognitive tasks.Ralph Radach - 1999 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 22 (4):697-698.
The theoretical framework laid out by Findlay & Walker has direct implications for central topics in research on saccades in reading and other cognitive activities and these in turn may also have implications to be considered in the context of Findlay & Walker's model. The present commentary focuses on the problem of selecting a target for a saccade. It is argued that there are indirect and direct top-down influences on this process and that direct influences are not adequately represented in (...)

In this paper, we discuss the macroscopic quantum behavior of simple superconducting circuits. Starting from a Lagrangian for electromagnetic field with broken gauge symmetry, we construct a quantum circuit model for a superconducting weak link (SQUID) ring, together with the appropriate canonical commutation relations. We demonstrate that this model can be used to describe macroscopic excitations of the superconducting condensate and the localized charge states found in some ultrasmall-capacitance weak-link devices.

    Growth‐related protein kinases.Ray K. Ralph, Sandra Darkin-Rattray & Phillip Schofield - 1990 - Bioessays 12 (3):121-124.
A protein kinase cascade is involved in the action of some mitogens. The cascade begins with receptor tyrosine kinase activation by growth factors. The resulting signal is transmitted into cells via phospholipid metabolism which produces a variety of second messengers and by intracellular protein kinase activation. The signal is then propagated and disseminated via a network of other proteln kinases and protein phosphatases. Recent research suggests that ribosomal protein S6 kinase and casein kinase II are two important elements in the (...)

    (1 other version)Peace Without Victory—in Philosophy.Ralph Barton Perry - 1928 - Philosophy 3 (11):300-.
That European and American philosophy at the opening of the twentieth century should have been sharply controversial was not an accident of politics, any more than it was accidental that persecutions and inquisitions should have attended the history of Christianity. The jealous God of Christianity was by definition an only god whose claims implies the rejection or subordination of every other god. Those who were not exclusively with him were counted against him. “ Christian “ and “ anti-Christian “ constituted (...)

    Situation de la philosophic contemporaine. [REVIEW]Ralph M. McInerny - 1960 - Philosophical Studies (Dublin) 10 (10):300-300.
This little book, which grew out of lectures given by the author in Tunis, is divided into three parts. In the first part, the author seeks a meaning for the phrase ‘contemporary philosophy’ which can serve him as a guide in the task he has set himself. His efforts to assign a meaning to the term ‘philosophy’ as if he had just set foot on the planet with an unexplained competence in earthly languages is, if obviously forced, not wholly lacking (...)
