    Chinoiseries : Hallucinating Derrida Hallucinating China.Laurent Milesi - 2018 - Oxford Literary Review 40 (1):95-107.
Derrida's treatment of Chinese script as essentially non-phonetic in Of Grammatology has been a recurrent leitmotif among several sinologists and scholars of Chinese origin, particularly in Rey Chow's famous 2001 essay ‘How Inscrutable Chinese Led to Globalized Theory’. Despite forceful refutations of this misconception, the accusation of a fantasizing ‘ethnocentrism thinking itself as anti-ethnocentrism’ has endured and could still be found in a recent 2015 article suggestively titled ‘A Sort of European Hallucination: On Derrida's “Chinese Prejudice”’. This essay will probe (...)

    A conserved blueprint for the eye?Patrizia Lavia & Pidder Jansen-Dürr - 1999 - Bioessays 21 (10):843-850.
In this review, we will focus on the role played by transcription factors of the E2F/DP family in controlling the expression of genes that carry out important cell‐cycle control functions, thereby ensuring ordered progression through the mammalian cell division cycle. The emerging picture is that cell‐cycle progression depends on the execution of a regulatory cascade of gene expression, driven by E2F/DP transcription factors, which are in turn regulated by the products of some of these genes. That E2F factors are potent (...)

Educational myth: Persistence, resistances, breaks and connections. The secret of telematic art.Patrizia Moschella - 2012 - Technoetic Arts 10 (1):17-23.
As Malinowsky states, myth is closely related to rite, presenting the social and moral values that rite asserts in each cyclical repetition. Rite marks the threshold between the sacred and profane, allowing access to myth as an art form, as a narrative expression both of the sacred – in the extension of meaning Emile Durkheim introduced with the term ‘collective consciousness’ – and of the ‘collective unconscious’ as Jung defined it. If it is true that the rite of passage to (...)

    Rescuing the "Loss-Of-Agency" Account of Thought Insertion.Patrizia Pedrini - 2015 - Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology 22 (3):221-233.
According to the principle known as “the principle of present-tense ascription immunity”, “It is impossible for anyone to have or entertain thoughts without being aware—immediately and self-evidently—that he is thinking that thought”. In other words, my thoughts are fundamentally experienced as mine, and I typically have this experience of mineness immediately, that is, without any inference based on evidence about who is the thinker of the thought. Thought insertion reveals instead that, under particular pathological conditions, people can be startlingly in (...)

    Tombe.Laurent Milesi (ed.) - 2014 - London: Seagull Books.
“In 1968-69 I wanted to die, that is to say, stop living, being killed, but it was blocked on all sides,” wrote Hélène Cixous, esteemed French feminist, playwright, philosopher, literary critic, and novelist. Instead of suicide, she began to dream of writing a tomb for herself. This tomb became a work that is a testament to Cixous’s life and spirit and a secret book, the first book she ever authored. Originally written in 1970, _Tombe_ is a Homerian recasting of Shakespeare’s (...)

    Cixanalyses — Towards a Reading of Anankè.Laurent Milesi - 2013 - Paragraph 36 (2):286-302.
The first in-depth engagement with and close reading of Anankè, this essay focuses on how Cixous's novel plays with and rewrites psychoanalytic concepts and practices. The critical elaboration of her own ‘cixanalysis’ in this fiction-as-becoming and journey, which reinvents psychoanalysis as it gives free creative rein to woman's desire instead of pathologizing it, unfolds in six related studies: on ‘conduct’, ‘habit’, staging, transference and/as translation, the interpretation of interpretation, and the shift from drive to drift in Cixous's fictional liberation of (...)

Psychosocial Suicide Prevention Interventions in the Elderly: A Mini-Review of the Literature.Patrizia Zeppegno, Eleonora Gattoni, Martina Mastrangelo, Carla Gramaglia & Marco Sarchiapone - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 9.
In Europe the elderly population is projected to increase from 18.5% (93.9 million) in 2014 to 28.7% (149.1 million) by 2080. In the USA it is estimated that by the year 2030 more than 20% of the population will be aged 65 years or over. This specific population is at high risk of unrecognised or untreated psychiatric illnesses and suicide. It is well known that completed suicide rate increases with age in both men and women. Although elderly people attempt suicide (...)

    When language goes on holiday.Patrizia Piredda - 2023 - Perspectivas 8 (1):263-281.
The new discoveries of QM led to re-assessing, broadening the meanings of many physical concepts, and formulating a new logic that was no longer based on the classical principles of non-contradiction, identity, and causality. Heisenberg considered the classical logic and the conception of language expressed in the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus inadequate for the understanding of the problems of language with which the physicists of the Copenhagen school had had to deal in order to define the foundations of Quantum Mechanics. On the (...)

I thank Dr. Matthew Parrott and Dr. V.Y. Allison-Bolger very much for their valuable comments on my paper. They have given me the chance to reflect further on the account of thought insertion I propose, and I respond to them with enthusiasm. I also thank the Editor of this journal for arranging this discussion and for giving me the opportunity to reply. Both Dr. Parrott and Dr. Allison-Bolger are concerned about whether my account is fundamentally tenable. They suggest that I (...)

TRADIZIONE E CONTEMPORANEITÀ1 A SCUOLA DI KANT AL TEMPO DEL TERRORISMO. CHE COSA SIGNIFICA OGGI ORIENTARSI NEL PENSIERO?Patrizia Salvatore - 2017 - Comunicazione Filosofica (39).
This article addresses the questions “why do we still have to read Kant today?”, “what kind of responses can he give us in the era of global terrorism?”. In other terms, today, “What does it mean to orient oneself in thinking?”. Because his concept of renewed religious laity, distant from both fanatic fundamentalism and indifferent secularism, becomes the compass we can only rely on and authentically trust in the relationship with the other. Issues identified on reading the interesting kantian work, (...)

Quantities or Qualities? A Forgotten Debate about Sounds between Ptolemy and Porphyry.Matteo Milesi - 2023 - Phronesis 68 (2):236-267.
In his Commentary on Ptolemy’s Harmonics, Porphyry debunks Ptolemy’s quantitative theory of pitches by demonstrating that pitches are qualitative attributes of sound. I argue that Porphyry’s main concern is to save the phenomenological dimension of sound while preserving the possibility of a quantitative analysis of music. I show how he draws on the Aristotelian tradition to develop a theory of pitches as emergent properties that covary with some underlying quantitative features without being reducible to them. Porphyry offers an original and (...)

Exploring Textual Action.Patrizia Lombardo, Lars Saetre & Aders M. Gullestad (eds.) - 2010 - Aarhus University Press (Aarhus).
Exploring Textual Action questions how we analyse works of art after the performative turn and shows how the interplay of performativity (textual action), space and topography, and the converging of genres and art forms is essential in modern drama, theatre, prose fiction, poetry and film. The volume also fosters a keen concern for the development of congenial theory. Its 14 detailed essays analyse works of art ranging from Balzac, Melville and George Eliot, to Breton, Kafka, Benjamin, Blixen and Woolf; and (...)
