Why neuroethicists are needed.Ruth Fischbach & Ianet Mindes - 2013 - In Judy Illes & Barbara J. Sahakian, Oxford Handbook of Neuroethics. Oxford University Press. pp. 343.
This article reviews some of the definitions in circulation that reveal the varied perspectives and goals of the field of neuroethics. It discusses a brief taxonomy of neuroethical questions. It deals with two specific contentious issues, one clinical and one from social sciences and shows how neuroethicists can serve to inform and to protect. Neuroethicists need education that encompasses many domains. The study describes the academic grounding and qualifications that should be required and also considers the pivotal roles neuroethicists should (...)

Acquaintance with One’s Own Thoughts.Huiming Ren Institute of Mind - forthcoming - International Journal of Philosophical Studies:1-21.
The more primitive kind of reasoning described by Peacocke (1996) requires that one know one’s own thoughts without self-ascribing them. I call this kind of self-knowledge ‘acquaintance with one’s own thoughts.’ I investigate acquaintance with one’s own thoughts and show that it consists in one’s grasp of the propositional content of one’s own thoughts, and one acquires such knowledge by listening to one’s inner speech. I further investigate the relationship between acquaintance with one’s own thoughts and knowledge about one’s own (...)

  25. For a scientific phenomenon to gain wide acceptance, three dif-ferent criteria must be fulfilled. First, the phenomenon must be real, in the sense of being reliably repeatable. Second, there should be at least some potential candidate explanations, and third, the phenomenon must have broad implications beyond the narrow confines of one specialty. Without all three in place, a phenomenon will be regarded as an anomaly (see Kuhn, 1962) and will not succeed in attracting the attention of the sci-entific ... [REVIEW]Human Mind - 2005 - In Robertson, C. Kant on Mind, Action, and Ethics.Julian Wuerth - 2014 - Oxford: Oxford University Press.
Julian Wuerth offers a radically new interpretation of major themes in Kant's philosophy. He explores Kant's ontology of the mind, his transcendental idealism, his account of the mind's powers, and his theory of action, and goes on to develop an original, moral realist account of Kant's ethics.

Wittgenstein, Mind and Meaning: Towards a Social Conception of Mind.Meredith Williams - 1999 - New York: Routledge.
_Wittgenstein, Mind and Meaning_ offers a provocative re-reading of Wittgenstein's later writings on language and mind, and explores the tensions between Wittgenstein's ideas and contemporary cognitivist conceptions of the mental. This book addresses both Wittgenstein's later works as well as contemporary issues in philosophy of mind. It provides fresh insight into the later Wittgenstein and raises vital questions about the foundations of cognitivism and its wider implications for psychology and cognitive science.

Problems of Mind and Matter.John Wisdom - 1934 - Cambridge [Eng.]: Cambridge University Press.
Professor Wisdom gives an elementary introduction to the applications in philosophy of the analytical method. He believes that the aim of analysis is clarity, whereas the aim of speculative philosophy is truth. After a brief introduction on what analysis is, he discusses the relation of body and mind and seeks for causal relations between mental and material events. He concludes this section with a chapter on Free will, before turning to perception and the external world.

Mind the gap: Griffith University’s approach to the governance of ethical conduct in human research.Gary Allen - 2007 - Monash Bioethics Review 26 (1-2):57-67.
It is perhaps not coincidental that, at the same time the apparent institutional risks associated with the conduct of human research are increasing, so are the complaints from researchers about research ethics committees. Rather than seeking to implement systems that more efficiently catch wrong-doing, in 2003 Griffith University began implementing an alternative approach. This new approach focused on resourcing the reflective practice of researchers through every stage of their work — well before, and long after, they seek ethical clearance for (...)
