Lata 40. XIX wieku to okres wyjątkowo ożywionej debaty nad tożsamością narodu polskiego. Rozprawa Karola Libelta O miłości ojczyzny, wydana w poznańskim czasopiśmie Rok w 1844 r., jest jednym z reprezentatywnych przykładów ideowego fermentu tego czasu. W rozprawie autor formułuje zasadnicze pytanie o kształt i charakter narodu jako wspólnoty wartości. Redefiniuje jednakże kluczowe dla tematu pojęcia takie jak ojczyzna i patriotyzm. Postuluje konieczność precyzyjnego formułowania ról społecznych i zadań, których realizacja ma służyć odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości. Libelt akcentuje kwestię nierozłączności (...) narodu i państwa, stąd w komentowanej rozprawie pytania o podmiotowość narodu są ściśle powiązane z pojęciem bytu politycznego i refleksją nad jego partykularną, ale i uniwersalną misją w dziejach. W stosunkowo rzadko komentowanej i niedoinwestowanej badawczo rozprawie Karola Libelta wybrzmiewa także koncepcja zmiany struktury polskiego społeczeństwa. Libelt jako pierwszy polski intelektualista sformułował definicję inteligencji jako grupę ludzi wykształconych, posiadających specjalne kompetencje i kluczową rolę do odegrania w dążącym do samookreślenia narodzie. Na barkach inteligencji, rozumianej przez filozofa jako awangarda narodu, ciąży odpowiedzialność szerzenia oświaty, kształcenia ludu i propagowania postaw zmieniających jego ograniczający szansę ewentualnych reform światopogląd. Libelt określa inteligencki etos jako zespół wartości i zasad mających moc wzorotwórczą. Szczególnym znamieniem inteligenckiego projektu patriotyzmu czyni zaś pojęcie służby drugiemu człowiekowi i poświęcenia dla dobra wspólnoty, dla ojczyzny. Przez miłość ojczyzny rozumie m.in. przywiązanie do ziemi, praktykowanie obyczajów, kultywowanie tradycji, dbanie o piękno języka, znajomość narodowej literatury, poszanowanie praw i obywatelskich obowiązków, etc. Wielkim walorem rozprawy Libelta pozostaje łączenie perspektywy historiozoficznej z problematyką etosu grupy kierowniczej, co daje rezultat w postaci refleksji o charakterze socjologicznym, podbudowanej romantycznym maksymalizmem moralnym. The following essay brings together philosophy and film. On the one hand, it is a short study of Hegel’s chapter on morality in the Phenomenology of Spirit. On the other hand, it deals with some of the moral conflicts presented in Ingmar Bergman’s 1961 film, Through a Glass Darkly. Central to my discussion is the concept of God. I aim to show how God, manifest in absolute Spirit, should not be understood as a transcendental figure located in a beyond, but (...) as a concrete entity found within the acts of forgiveness and reconciliation. This article describes experiences of long-term ethnographic fieldwork on disobedience, disloyalty and dissensus among women in public space in selected (post-)Yugoslav cities. I focus on the opportunities and pitfalls of feminist ethnography and methodology in the context of positionality, engagement and solidarity as essential elements of research into activist networks. In order to problematize the emerging field positionalities and solidarities, I examine the “militant ethnography” methodological approach (Jeffrey Juris), which seeks to move beyond the divide between research practice and politically (...) engaged participation. It is about being among and within the activist network and adopting many identities and roles by constantly shifting between reflective solidarity and analysis. In trying to shed light on the critical self-reflective research process of embodied understandings and experiences, I focus on ethnographic practices embedded in transnational “crowded fields” that encompass the dynamics of relationships and dependencies between knowledge producers. In this paper we have two main aims. First, we present an account of mood-congruent delusions in depression (hereafter, depressive delusions). We propose that depressive delusions constitute acknowledgements of self-related beliefs acquired as a result of a negatively biased learning process. Second, we argue that depressive delusions have the potential for psychological and epistemic benefits despite their obvious epistemic and psychological costs. We suggest that depressive delusions play an important role in preserving a person’s overall coherence and narrative identity at (...) a critical time, and thus can be regarded as epistemically innocent. Phenomenology is one of the main currents of modern philosophy. Philosophers most often understand it from the perspective of Edmund Husserl’s (1859–1938) phenomenology as a concept of cognition and a method of viewing and describing what is directly given, i.e. a phenomenon. In addition, phenomenology is the fundamental science – prima philosophia that determines what and how is directly given. Roman Ingarden (1893–1970), a student of E. Husserl, was the first thinker in Poland who practiced philosophy in a phenomenological way. (...) R. Ingarden contributed to the dissemination of Husserl’s phenomenology in Poland and became an outstanding phenomenologist who developed an original phenomenological path proposing a creative reception of his teacher’s thoughts between World Wars II and I. Inagrden’s phenomenological path was different from Husserl’s. While Husserl developed a transcendental-idealistic form of phenomenology, Ingarden did not wholly abandon the transcendental path but went toward realism. The Polish phenomenologist did not want to question his master’s concept of the transcendental Self but only wanted to find a place for this Self in the real world. Polish thinkers who further deepened the creative reception of Husserl’s phenomenology have always gathered around Ingarden. One such person was Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka (1923–2014). Their professor-student meeting occurred at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow just after the end of World War II. Husserl’s phenomenology inspired A.-T. Tymieniecka, but this was phenomenology understood by Ingarden, taking into account the realism of the world and the entire sphere of empiricism. We can assume that the scholar’s meeting with Ingarden allowed Tymieniecka to develop her phenomenological concept, which she called the concept of the phenomenology of life and the human creative condition. It is a phenomenology that rejects idealism and chooses the realism of the world and life in the cosmic dimension. The human being here is a living entity whose life is anchored in nature but ultimately evolves and develops in culture through scientific and technological activities. In this cosmological and dynamically changing perspective, the source experience of the subject – a living being – becomes the experience of being alive and living in the unity-of-erything-there-is-alive. Therefore, Tymieniecka rejected the primordial nature of the cognitive-constitutive act of the pure consciousness, which we deal with in classical phenomenology, favouring a creative act founded in man’s creative imagination and only secondarily reflected in the cognitive act. The Polish philosopher believed that only in such a case is there a possibility of freedom in the human world of life and, thus – authentic self-realisation and self-interpretation of man in existence. Artykuł jest krótką prezentacją głównych założeń koncepcji fenomenologii życia współczesnej polskiej myślicielki Anny Teresy Tymienieckiej. Są to te założenia, które Tymieniecka wypunktowała w jednej ze swoich wypowiedzi zaprezentowanej na Kongresie Kultury Polskiej w Londynie w 1985 roku. Celem obrad sekcji filozoficznej było nakreślenie sytuacji filozofii polskiej oraz polskiej kultury na emigracji w kontekście kryzysu kultury europejskiej. Tymieniecka, działająca naukowo w Stanach Zjednoczonych, przedstawiła własny punkt widzenia tego kryzysu, jako mającego źródło w braku komunikacji między różnymi dziedzinami nauki, ale także między (...) nauką w ogóle a innymi formami ludzkiej działalności kulturotwórczej. Przedstawiła też własną wizję przezwyciężenia tego kryzysu w postaci fenomenologii twórczej kondycji ludzkiej jako nowej mathesis universalis. (shrink)

Z satysfakcją oddajemy do rąk Czytelników wznowioną w nieco zmienionej postaci książeczkę wydaną z okazji przyznania Pani Profesor Barbarze Skardze tytułu doktora honoris causa Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu w roku 2000. Jak świadczą przytaczane tu recenzje w przewodzie i laudacja, było to wydarzenie dla wielu osób niezwykle ważne. Na sympozjum zorganizowane w przeddzień uroczystości przybyło liczne grono uczniów i przyjaciół Pani Profesor z całej Polski, dla wielu bowiem była i dla wielu pozostała do dziś wzorem humanisty i człowieka. Z (...) przedmowy Rektora UMK prof. Andrzeja Tretyna Pomysł ponownego wydania niniejszej książeczki powstał w gronie osób oraz instytucji zaangażowanych w organizację uroczystości związanych ze stuleciem urodzin Pani Profesor Barbary Skargi. Niemal dwadzieścia lat temu Pani Profesor uzyskała tytuł doktora honoris causa Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. Było to bez wątpienia wydarzenie ważne zarówno dla Pani Profesor, jak i dla toruńskiego środowiska filozoficznego. […] Fakt zaś nakładania się różnych czasowości – rocznicy urodzin, niemal okrągłej rocznicy nadania tytułu doktora honoris causa – jest dobrym pretekstem, by zwrócić uwagę na znaczenie tego wydarzenia, a zwłaszcza jego seminaryjnej części udokumentowanej w niniejszym wydawnictwie. This article traces disagreements about the genetic effects of low-dose radiation exposure as waged by James Neel, a central figure in radiation studies of Japanese populations after World War II, and Yuri Dubrova, who analyzed the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. In a 1996 article in Nature, Dubrova reported a statistically significant increase in the minisatellite DNA mutation rate in the children of parents who received a high dose of radiation from the Chernobyl accident, contradicting studies that found no (...) significant inherited genetic effects among offspring of Japanese A-bomb survivors. Neel’s subsequent defense of his large-scale longitudinal studies of the genetic effects of ionizing radiation consolidated current scientific understandings of low-dose ionizing radiation. The article seeks to explain how the Hiroshima/nagasaki data remain hegemonic in radiation studies, contextualizing the debate with attention to the perceived inferiority of Soviet genetic science during the Cold War.
