Many analyses of notion of _metainferences_ in the non-transitive logic ST have tackled the question of whether ST can be identified with classical logic. In this paper, we argue that the primary analyses are overly restrictive of the notion of metainference. We offer a more elegant and tractable semantics for the strict-tolerant hierarchy based on the three-valued function for the LP material conditional. This semantics can be shown to easily handle the introduction of _mixed_ inferences, _i.e._, inferences involving objects belonging (...)

Evaluation of the role of Islamic lifestyle in communication skills of Muslim couples.Ahmad Zuhri, Andrés A. Ramírez-Coronel, Sulieman I. S. Al-Hawary, Ngakan Ketut Acwin Dwijendra, Iskandar Muda, Harikumar Pallathadka, Muhammad M. Amiruddin & Denok Sunarsi - 2023 - HTS Theological Studies 79 (1):6.
Lifestyle refers to a set of personal and group behaviours related to normative and semantic aspects of social life. Any coherent set of behavioural patterns derived from religious teachings that exist in life can be considered a religious lifestyle. Considering that the dominant religion in Jordan is Islam, the present study focused on the Islamic lifestyle. In addition, given that the correct relationship between couples has been compared to life-giving blood in marriage, and since the quality of marital role plays (...)

The Holy Qur’an relates believers’ pure emotions to brotherhood. From the perspective of Islam, it has been also affirmed that two people have the same thoughts and opinions in one centre point of love in brotherhood, so fraternal feelings are not merely limited to kinship and consanguinity. In this line, the Holy Qur’an states that we have come to make you brothers with each other; not a brotherhood from parents, but an Islamic one, which is highly appreciated in the Islamic (...)

The Reproductive Rights Counteroffensive in Mexico and Central America.Gabriela Arguedas Ramírez & Lynn M. Morgan - 2017 - Feminist Studies 43 (2):423.
Abstract:This essay reviews the 2013 Human Life International (HLI) propaganda video, Central America and Mexico: Fighting for Life, Faith, and Family, which, we argue, illustrates the well-orchestrated counteroffensive against reproductive and sexual rights movements occurring in the region. First we summarize the film's key themes, including the assertion that Catholicism is fundamental to Mexican and Central American identities and that the international “pro-abortion movement” is waging war against Catholics. Second, we note the development of a new strategic alliance between Catholics (...)

Reproductive Justice Beyond Borders: Global Feminist Solidarity in the Post- Roe Era.Gabriela Arguedas-Ramírez & Danielle M. Wenner - 2023 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 51 (3):606-611.
The global impact of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and the backlash towards reproductive justice that it represents warrant a global feminist response informed by broad theoretical and geopolitical lenses. We consider how a solidaristic, transnational feminist movement might learn from Latin American feminist movements that have been successful in uniting broad coalitions in the fight for reproductive justice as situated within far-reaching political goals. The success of such a global movement must be decolonial and must contend with the (...)

The process en route: the metaphor of the journey as the dominant narrative for the political discourse in Catalonia.Carlota M. Moragas-Fernández, Marta Montagut Calvo & Arantxa Capdevila Gómez - 2018 - Critical Discourse Studies 15 (5):517-539.
ABSTRACTPolitical actors use metaphor in their speeches in order to frame political issues [Charteris-Black, J.. Politicians and rhetoric: The persuasive power of metaphor. Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan]. If they succeed in imposing a particular frame, especially when there is no agreement on the definition of certain political issues, this can become the prevailing way for referring to that issue [Semino, E.. Metaphor in discourse. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press]. In this research, we argue that this was the case for the metaphor of (...)

    Heterologous Embryo Transfer: A Thomistic Approach.Nicholas M. Ramirez - 2024 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 24 (3):437-446.
In this paper, I will argue that heterologous embryo transfer (HET) is malum in se because it involves a disordered use of a woman’s gestative faculty. Against most HET opponents, I will argue for and defend the distinction between the generative faculty or procreation and the gestative faculty or gestation, grounded in St. Thomas Aquinas’s explanation for how faculties are distinguished. Against the advocates of HET, I will argue that a thorough analysis of the gestative faculty and its natural object (...)

    Teleology and the Problem of Bodily-Rights Arguments.Nicholas M. Ramirez - 2023 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 23 (1):83-97.
In this paper I argue that teleology and a proper teleological analysis of the uterus is important for a comprehensive understanding of the rights of the unborn. I argue that a right to life entails the right to use those organs that naturally function for an individual’s survival. Consequently, an unborn child has a right to his mother’s uterus. If this is accepted, bodily-rights arguments for abortion such as those proposed by Judith Jarvis Thomson and David Boonin are completely undermined. (...)

Even though sacred scriptures emphasize the key role that Creation and respect for living creatures play in all religions, the so-called religious schools seem to show little interest in putting this sacred mandate into effect. To shed light on this subject, this work investigates the role of teachers in the process, focusing on their environmental competencies. Our hypotheses are tested through a structural equation model on a sample of 214 biology and religion teachers from 118 Catholic schools in Spain who (...)

Learning, internalisation and integration of the COVID‐19 pandemic in healthcare workers: A qualitative document analysis.Eva Abad-Corpa, Manuel Rich-Ruiz, Dolores Sánchez-López, Carmen Solano Ruiz, Elvira Casado-Ramírez, Beatriz Arregui-Gallego, María Teresa Moreno-Casbas, Daniel Muñoz-Jiménez, M. The COVID‐19 pandemic triggered an unprecedented health crisis that impacted healthcare systems worldwide. This study explores how Spanish healthcare workers learned, internalised and integrated values and work behaviours during the COVID‐19 pandemic and their impact on the personal sphere. This documentary research, using images, narratives and audiovisual content, was framed within the interpretative hermeneutic paradigm. Categories and subcategories emerged after a final theoretical sampling that focused on the analysis. Data triangulation between researchers favoured theoretical saturation.
