Socially responsible investment has grown enormously and has expanded globally in recent years. It allows SRI investors to reduce their portfolio risk assumptions through international diversification. In this context, the aim of this paper is twofold to examine price and volatility linkages among the most representative SRI indexes for North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific employing a multivariate approach and to provide the out-of-sample performance of an optimal portfolio constructed on the basis of time-varying return and volatility forecasts from this specification (...) approach. Our overall results show that using this technique, it is possible to reduce risk and out-perform the naïve rule, which is usually employed in this type of investment. These findings are relevant not only for academics but also for practitioners, especially for professional managers of SRI portfolios. (shrink)

RESUMEN: Ha sido frecuente últimamente atribuir a los decretistas del siglo XII la primera formulación de los derechos naturales. Brian Tierney ha situado su origen en las obras de Rufino y Huguccio al comentar la parte “demostrativa” del derecho natural. Esta tesis supondría adelantar su nacimiento a una época dominada por la concepción objetivista del Derecho. Examinamos aquí la concepción del Derecho en los decretistas más importantes de la segunda mitad del siglo XII, Paucapalea, Rufino, Esteban de Tournai, Simón Bisiniano (...) y Huguccio, así como la relevancia que otorgaron estos juristas al Derecho desde una perspectiva subjetiva. ABSTRACT: Recently, it has often been attributed to the 12th century decretists the first formulation of natural rights. In this sense, Brian Tierney placed his origin in the works of Rufino and Huguccio, when they commented on the "demonstrative" part of natural law. This thesis would mean bringing forward his birth to an era dominated by the objectivist conception of Law. We examine here the conception of Law in the most important decretists of the second half of the 12th century (Paucapalea, Rufino, Esteban de Tournai, Simón Bisiniano and Huguccio) as well as the relevance that these jurists gave the law from a subjective perspective. The figure of chiasmus, which plays a key role inside Merleau-Ponty’s thought, makes it possible to address the way Castoriadis defines the imaginary throughout his entire work from a new perspective, as well as to shed light on some complexities concerning the relation between instituted and instituting. Tthis article emphasizes the intertwining of three pair of concepts, each of which corresponds to a different but yet interrelated aspect of his philosophy: psyche-society, tradition-innovation, and autonomy-heteronomy.

The aim of this research is to analyze the effects of innovation strategies, Total Quality Management dimensions, and internationalization strategies that Higher Education Institutions might adopt, and their effects on their organizational performance. Due to globalization and the constant changes and demands that have taken place today, HEIs are forced to seek new quality assurance instruments in higher education, to ensure greater competitiveness in the markets and their survival. To examine the association between the independent variables, namely, TQM dimensions, innovation (...) strategies, and internationalization strategies with the dependent variable, that is organizational performance of HEIs, we have chosen to use multiple linear regression analysis. A nine-predictor multiple linear regression model was proposed. The nine predictor variables are Communication, Involvement/teacher empowerment, Development/Teacher training, Continuous improvement, Leadership/Administration’s Commitment, Data analysis/Measurement of results, Focus on students, Innovation Strategies, and Internationalization strategy. We conclude that some TQM variables have a significant association with the organizational performance of HEIs, namely, Involvement/teacher empowerment, and Development/teacher training. On the other hand, also the Innovation strategies and Internationalization strategy have a significant association with the organizational performance of HEIs. This research is of enormous importance for the study of HEIs, considering their role in the development of any country and its impact on society as creators of knowledge and science. Since these institutions increasingly must deal with extremely competitive market environments, knowledge of the factors that can assist in increasing the organizational performance of HEIs is of great relevance. Ysabel Ydelsa Delgado Del Águila nació el 23 de diciembre de 1990 en Lima (Perú). Estudió la carrera de Traducción e Interpretación en el Instituto de Educación Superior Tecnológico Privado Cibertec, donde se especializó en el aprendizaje de las lenguas del inglés y el portugués y se graduó con una tesis dedicada al escritor portugués José Saramago. Actualmente, trabaja como traductora freelance y es gerente de operaciones en la filial Recife (Brasil) de VFS Global para la misión de Canadá (...) y Reino Unido. Esta organización se encarga del trámite de documentos administrativos y de cobranza para la adquisición de una visa o un permiso temporal en esos países en condición de turista. Durante el tiempo de capacitación de sus empleados, la entidad les brinda la oportunidad de establecer vínculos educativos con las universidades de la India. Ha estudiado el idioma francés en la Alianza Francesa y el italiano en el Instituto Italiano de Cultura. Colonization has had extremely negative impacts on the mental health and wellness of Indigenous peoples throughout the world. In this paper we take up colonial processes as they relate to Indigenous lives and mental health in three contexts: Canada, Kenya and Australia. This work engages storytelling and the method of storywork (Archibald et al., 2019) as a way to preserve and pass on history and as a way of resisting colonial oppression. This work is grounded in an intersectional approach to (...) social justice and decolonization (Crenshaw, 1990; Hankivsky & Cormier, 2011), and supported sharing, knowledge co-creation and joint thematic narrative analysis of Indigenous experiences of mental health and justice systems across the three contexts. Our writing team represents a collaborative process between Indigenous and non-Indigenous authors where the members of the team most impacted by colonization use stories to reflect on the impact of colonization and its specific ties to psychiatric, justice and child welfare systems. This paper is presented in three main parts beginning with “Emile’s Story,” followed by “Remembering ‘Is That You Ruthie?’” and concluding with “Navigating Kenya’s Colonial Legacy.” This work engages a process of decolonization by challenging these destructive colonial narratives through storytelling. This paper will both document and demonstrate the importance of creating space for different forms of knowledge creation within academia. (shrink)

Los pensamientos comunitaristas, así como algunas formas de individualismo, intentan en verdad solucionar una cuestión teórica que no es pertinente: se preguntan por cual es la correcta fundamentación del conjunto social, a fin sin duda de obtener sus implicaciones practicas, pero desdeñan conocer cuales sean los modos por los que individualidad y comunidad mutuamente se producen, tanto en la empiria, cuanto en la realidad simbólica. Para no colocar entonces el discurso en un plano que creo equivocado comenzare por hacer una (...) afirmación rotunda: el individuo genuino es un cuerpo, un cuerpo limitado por una piel, y cuantas otras cosas posean los nombres e incluso los atributos de la individualidad, participan de ella de un modo metafórico. Creo conveniente afirmar esto antes de entrar en el asunto "comunidad y privacidad: nosotros o yo", porque lo que me propongo es lisa y humildemente hacer un conjunto de reflexiones sobre la individualidad y sus aspectos contradictorios (inducidos por las categorías de igualdad y diferencia), en el tiempo presente. Daniel García Delgado presenta los debates en torno a las distintas propuestas para una estrategia nacional de desarrollo con equidad en Argentina. El autor propone un análisis en cuatro dimensiones. En primer lugar, comenta los indicadores macroeconómicos positivos tras de 3 años de recuperación económica desde la crisis de 2001-2002. Sin embargo, advierte sobre algunas «luces amarillas» que han surgido en el camino, y las cuales se relacionan con el aumento de la pobreza, la distribución del ingreso y la (...) evolución del mercado del trabajo. En segundo lugar, plantea la existencia de una brecha resistente, cuyas dimensiones (social, espacial y temporal) se asocian al modelo de concentración de capital y a la excesiva centralización de las tres últimas décadas. En tercer lugar, el autor discute que la modificación de estas tres falencias implica otras medidas, objetivos y valores políticos necesarios para constituir un proyecto de desarrollo enteramente construido, sostenible e inclusivo. Las altas tasas de cambio, el superávit comercial y el impuesto a la exportación de materias primas, constituyen políticas económicas necesarias pero no suficientes. Un proyecto inclusivo del desarrollo, necesariamente debe diferir del reciente pasado neoliberal, e implica algunas dimensiones claves como: i) la definición y la especialización en un perfil productivo; ii) el papel asignado al Estado; iii) el marco regional y global del proyecto y; iv) la coalición social que lo defenderá y sostendrá. Es necesario, por último, promover una asociación entre las orientaciones y los valores políticos. En la víspera del bicentenario de la independencia argentina, las metas nacionales deben establecerse no sólo respecto del crecimiento económico, sino especialmente de la reducción del desempleo, la pobreza y la injusticia. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los ejemplos que se dan en las obras tradicionales del denominado καί estructural con el fin de determinar sus características desde una perspectiva más actual. Este es uno de los tipos de καί adverbial que se distinguen, pero, como veremos, se trata de una categoría compleja en la que, sobre la base de su aparición en una oración subordinada, se han mezclado al menos tres usos más o menos habituales de καί adverbial: aditivo, (...) identificativo y corresponsivo. The aim of this paper is to analyse the examples of the so-called structural καί from a modern perspective. The examples are taken from the traditional grammars, in which this adverbial use of καί is usually distinguished. As it will be shown, this is in fact a complex category, established on the basis of its appearance in a subordinate clause and including three quite common uses of adverbial καί: additive, identificational and corresponsive. En el presente estudio se aborda una serie de textos talmúdicos, donde los elementos mágicos juegan un papel importante dentro de la realidad rabínica. La sensibilidad para explicar estos pasajes la podemos encontrar, en la literatura contemporánea, en la corriente conocida como “realismo mágico” o “lo real maravilloso”. Las obras que se han elegido como referencia son Cien años de soledad de G. García Márquez y Pedro Páramo de J. Rulfo, pues además de ser dos novelas cumbre en la narrativa (...) hispanoamericana, están traducidas a la mayoría de las lenguas occidentales. Dos son los ámbitos en los que se centra el estudio: la muerte y el infierno con sus respectivas representaciones en el mundo de los vivos, ya que tanto en la novela latino-americana como en el universo rabínico, los demonios, los mediadores y todo tipo de seres intermedios se relacionan con los hombres a través de una realidad mítica. Así pues, a pesar de ser dos literaturas alejadas en el tiempo y el espacio, parecen tener una sensibilidad similar a la hora de abordar las cuestiones del Inframundo, sin abandonar la realidad y a su vez sin perder de vista la espontaneidad de la cultura tradicional y popular, que tanto gusta de los elementos mágicos. Research has revealed that sex education policies are informed by national and local struggles over the meanings and consequences of gender, race, sexuality, and class categories. However, few studies have considered how policies are enacted in the classroom production of sex education to support or challenge gender, racial, sexual, and class hierarchies. This article draws on data obtained through semistructured in-depth interviews with 40 Latina youth to explore how heteronormativity, sexism, and racism operate together to structure the content and delivery (...) of school-based sex education. Findings suggest that some Latina youth encounter racialized heterogendered constructions and experiences that limit their access to sex-education-related information and reinforce existing inequalities. Privacy loss is one of the primary issues associated with the use of social media or social network sites. These sites operate by collecting and sharing data from users to obtain economic revenue. As a solution, it is recommended that users be informed about safe online practices and that they should behave accordingly. However, this does not usually happen, which makes privacy regulations ineffective. We argue that a top-down, control-focused approach to privacy, such as that found in the European Commission’s (...) recent General Data Protection Regulation, does not capture the way online practices unfold and fails to prevent privacy issues. Instead, we frame privacy using the concept of the “logic of care,” an approach that promotes a situated analysis of online practices and of the diverse actors involved (users, companies, regulators, etc.). This shift favors the creation of safer interactions on social network sites instead of restrictive regulations. (shrink)
