    Geschichte als Grenzproblem.Leonard Ip - 2022 - Phänomenologische Forschungen 2022 (1):84-108.
This paper aims to bring a hidden “metaphysical” horizon in Husserl’s famous text “The Origin of Geometry” to light. This will be achieved in three steps: first, by analyzing the two essential manners in which the problem of history is thematized in this text, namely, both as a “basic problem” and as a “limit problem”; second, by highlighting the direct connection of this twofold problematization of history to Husserl’s own concept of metaphysics; and third, by exploring the relation between the (...)

Edmund Husserl’s Cartesian Meditations: Commentary, Interpretations, Discussions.Daniele De Santis (ed.) - 2023 - Verlag Karl Alber.

    Alzheimer's and Aducanumab: Unjust Profits and False Hopes.Leonard M. Fleck - 2021 - Hastings Center Report 51 (4):9-11.
Accelerated approval of aducanumab for mild Alzheimer's by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on June 7, 2021, has generated substantial medical, scientific, and ethical controversy. That approval was contrary to the nearly unanimous judgment of the FDA's Advisory Committee that little reliable evidence existed of significant benefit, even though the drug did reduce β‐amyloid. Three major ethical problems were created by this approval: (1) Medicare resources would be unjustly squandered, given the drug's $56,000 annual price and the 3.1 million (...)

  4. Does illusionism imply skepticism of animal consciousness?Leonard Dung - 2022 - Synthese 200 (3):1-19.
Illusionism about consciousness entails that phenomenal consciousness doesn’t exist. The distribution question concerns the distribution of consciousness in the animal kingdom. Skepticism of animal consciousness is the view that few or no kinds of animals possess consciousness. Thus, illusionism seems to imply a skeptical view on the distribution question. However, I argue that illusionism and skepticism of animal consciousness are actually orthogonal to each other. If illusionism is true, then phenomenal consciousness does not ground intrinsic value so that the non-existence (...)

    An interview with LA universal self.Leonard Angel - 2006 - Sophia 45 (1):79-93.
LA Universal Self reports his phenomenology, according to which, as he puts it, ‘I am the universe’. The Interviewer challenges the report in a variety of ways, and LA Universal Self responds to each challenge. A traditional Universal Self mysticism is given a new physicalist interpretation.

    Judging Necessity.Leonard C. Feldman - 2008 - Political Theory 36 (4):550-577.
This article probes the relationship among constitutionalism, extra-legal prerogative power, and citizen judgment. While much has been written about the nature of Lockean prerogative, and while his theory serves as a direct inspiration for contemporary "normative extra-legalists," key participants in the debate over emergency powers, less attention has been paid to how the people judge prerogative. Attention to this issue is useful because an examination of the process of political judgment of extra-legalism in Locke leads to a complication of the (...)

Fortschritte und Rückschritte der Philosophie: Von Hume & Kant bis Hegel & Fries.Leonard Nelson - 1970 - Felix Meiner Verlag.

The Role of the "Subject's Power" in Kant's Account of Desire.Leonard Feldblyum - unknown
Understanding Kant’s account of desire is vital to the project of evaluating his views about moral psychology, as well as his account of freedom qua autonomy. In Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View, Kant claims that “Desire (appetitio) is the self-determination of a subject's power through the representation of something in the future as an effect of this representation” (7:251). My goal is to clarify which of the subject’s specific capacities Kant means by the “subject's power,” and what role (...)

Superficialismo radicale: soggetti, emancipazione e politica.Mirko Alagna & Leonard Mazzone (eds.) - 2021 - Pisa: Edizioni ETS.

Betting & Hierarchy in Paleontology.Leonard Finkelman - 2019 - Philosophy, Theory, and Practice in Biology 11.
At the turn of the last century, paleontologists wagered that they could find the missing link between lobe-finned fish and early terrestrial vertebrates. Given how these evolutionary relatives are distributed in the fossil record, Daeschler et al. predicted that some transitional form awaited discovery in late Devonian outcrops of the Canadian Arctic. It was there that they won their bet: the team soon found Tiktaalik roseae, a “fishopod” with a mix of aquatic and terrestrial traits. Tiktaalik’s discovery now stands as (...)

The conundrums of the reasonable patient standard in English medical law.Shing Fung Lee, Eric C. Ip & Kelvin Hiu Fai Kwok - 2023 - BMC Medical Ethics 24 (1):1-5.
BackgroundIn its 2015 decision in Montgomery v. Lanarkshire Health Board, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom overruled the long-standing, paternalistic prudent doctor standard of care in favour of a new reasonable patient standard which obligates doctors to make their patients aware of all material risks of the recommended treatment and of any reasonable alternative treatment. This landmark judgment has been of interest to the rest of the common law world. A judicial trend of invoking Montgomery to impose more stringent (...)
