This book is dedicated to clarify ambiguous concepts from the world of creativity and innovation. One of the initial triggers for the development of the book was the perceived ambiguity of the binomials Design vs. Design Thinking and Innovation vs. Invention. Frequently, designers and innovation consultants are questioned by their clients about the relationships between these kind of concepts. Has the second emerged through the first, or vice-verse? Is one part of the other? Where are the similarities and which are (...) the differences? This conceptual incomprehension makes itself noticeable between many ambiguous concepts in the world of innovation and creativity. What is the difference between Radical and Disruptive Innovation? Or is Social Innovation the same as Social Intervention? And regarding Creativity, are Creativity and Creative Thinking the same? In this book the reader will find answers to these kinds of questions and doubts. 28 authors from 10 different countries and cultural backgrounds are questioning current definitions and perceptions, by comparing different sources and ideas, or simply by giving their personal opinions. In Brazil, the CNPq provides grants, funds and fellowships to productive scientists to support their investigations. They are ranked and categorized into four hierarchical levels ranging from PQ 1A to PQ 1D. Few studies, however, report and analyse scientific productivity in different sub-fields of Biomedical Sciences, e.g., Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biophysics and Physiology. In fact, systematic comparisons of productivity among the PQ 1 categories within the above sub-fields are lacking in the literature. Here, the scientific productivity of 323 investigators receiving PQ (...) 1 fellowships in these sub-fields of BS was investigated. The Scopus database was used to compile the total number of articles, citations, h-index values and authorship positions in the most cited papers by researchers granted CNPq fellowships. We found that researchers from Pharmacology had the best performance for all of the parameters analysed, followed by those in Biochemistry. There was great variability in scientific productivity within the PQ 1A level in all of the sub-fields of BS, but not within the other levels. Analysis of the most cited papers of PQ 1 researchers in Pharmacology revealed that the citations of researchers in the 1C and 1D levels were associated with publications with their senior supervisors, whereas those in the 1B level were less connected with their supervisors in comparison to those in 1A. Taken together, these findings suggest that the scientific performance of PQ 1A researchers in BS is not homogenous. In our opinion, parameters such as the most cited papers without the involvement of Ph.D. and/or post-doctoral supervisors should be used to make decisions regarding any given researcher’s fellowship award level. Recatolizar a Nação: Intelectuais Católicos na Comissão Nacional do Livro Didático Resumo: Este artigo analisa a presença de intelectuais católicos entre os membros da Comissão Nacional do Livro Didático como indício da relação de poder entre a Igreja Católica e o governo. Tal posição estratégica permite examinar, estimular, indicar e promover os livros didáticos na formação da nação, como aproximar a cultura católica dos princípios nacionalistas. Na primeira parte, apresentam-se sinais do movimento Reação Católica em torno do projeto de recatolizar (...) a nação; na segunda, mostra-se a importância da CNLD entre os aparatos estatais em consonância com o projeto da construção institucional do governo; e, por fim, na terceira parte, indica-se a posição estratégica de intelectuais católicos na CNLD. Este artigo tem por objetivo trazer a dança sagrada na memória Bergosoniana através das comunidades de terreiros, compreendida como expressões corporais representadas através da materialiação dos corpos e memória no que diz respeito ao movimento, na dança e toque da Orixá Oxum. Embalados pela problemática de como a dança sagrada nos terreiros de candomblé da nação Ketu/Nagô reflete a memória em movimento trazida por Bergson? Com isso propomos um recorte da memória com base em Bergson que nos ajudam á situar (...) a memória em movimentos ancestrais através dos acontecimentos que resultam nas relações sociais de grupos que contribuem através de depoimentos, contatos, lembranças, expressões e recordações construídas sobre um fundamento da dança. Como metodologia de pesquisa, fizemos uma busca no acervo utilizando o referencial teórico de Bergson em as suas publicações correntes na qual, concluímos que a memória exerce papel fundamental para preservação e também para estudos e pesquisas deste universo sagrado. Neste texto pretendemos explorar a ideia de devir a partir da novela “A metamorfose” de Franz Kafka. Pela leitura, evidenciamos a presença da animalidade na sua escrita, de maneira que nos chama a atenção a insistência em dar voz às questões emergentes da sociedade e do modo de vida, não somente animal, mas humano: A metamorfose de Gregor Samsa, que acorda numa manhã transformado em um inseto. Partimos, também, da concepção de devir para os filósofos Deleuze e Guattari enquanto estado (...) de sensação que é capaz de multiplicar as intensidades afetivas, de pensamento e expressão em um corpo. Relacionamos a docência e a problemática da existência por meio da literatura e da filosofia. Tal investigação é impulsionada por experimentações realizadas com professores, atuantes e em formação, na Oficina de escrileituras denominada Conatus, utilizando-se, dentre outras matérias, da literatura kafkiana para questionar o fazer docente e aquilo que adoece em meio ao cotidiano escolar. Diante das pequenas novelas de rádio escritas e gravadas pelos participantes, nos deparamos com a interrogação: quais são as condições para que algo seja criado na prática pedagógica? As novelas deram visibilidade, entre outras questões, aos conflitos enfrentados na profissão. Destacamos a criação intitulada “A vaca”, onde os professores acenaram suas inquietações e a desfiguração da sua imagem como uma linha de fuga da identidade depreciativa e sagrada tomada por diferentes circunstâncias e local em que se vive. Como resultado entendemos que a literatura e a filosofia mostram-se como intercessoras potentes, ao favorecem a desconstrução de significações e a abertura para pensar sobre as condições de possibilidades de outros modos de existir. O presente artigo aborda a evolução da representação do corpo masculino na moda contemporânea, destacando a transição de uma imagem delgada e associada à homossexualidade e à AIDS para um ideal de corpo musculoso e viril. A pesquisa foca na influência do mercado de moda e do poder de compra dos grupos homossexuais nessa transformação. Discute-se como a masculinidade é uma construção social e como a mídia e a moda disseminam o corpo masculino como objeto de desejo e consumo. Reasoning may help solving problems and understanding personal experiences. Ruminative reasoning, however, is inconclusive, repetitive, and usually regards negative thoughts. We asked how reasoning as manifested in oral autobiographical narratives might differ when it is ruminative versus when it is adaptive by comparing two constructs from the fields of psychotherapy research and narrative research that are potentially beneficial: innovative moments (IMs) and autobiographical reasoning (AR). IMs captures statements in that elaborate on changes regarding an earlier personal previous problem of the (...) narrator, and AR capture the connecting of past events with other parts of the narrator’s life or enduring aspects of the narrator. A total ofN= 94 university students had been selected from 492 students to differ maximally on trait rumination and trait adaptive reflection, and were grouped as ruminators (N= 38), reflectors (N= 37), and a group with little ruminative and reflective tendencies (“unconcerned,”N= 19). Participants narrated three negative personal experiences (disappointing oneself, harming someone, and being rejected) and two self-related experiences of more mixed valence (turning point and lesson learnt). Reflectors used more IMs and more negative than positive autobiographical arguments (AAs), but not more overall AAs than ruminators. Group differences were not moderated by the valence of memories, and groups did not differ in the positive effect of narrating on mood. Trait depression/anxiety was predicted negatively by IMs and positively by AAs. Thus, IMs are typical for reflectors but not ruminators, whereas the construct of AR appears to capture reasoning processes irrespective of their ruminative versus adaptive uses. (shrink)

The Second Vatican Council was built within a solidly constituted tradition in the Catholic Church. All councils were held within the traditional and legal parameters of the Church. The question about the condition of possibility of a renewal Council under this tradition shows relevant. The Vatican II is the result of a negotiation between renewal and preservation. Pope John XXIII personally coordinated the construction of the legitimacy of the new event, following steps which may be rescued during the preparatory stages (...) of the great assembly. The reading of this process from sociological parameters may elucidate its plausibility within the tradition and the Church's bureaucratic organization. Pope John started ably a church renewal process, opening a new phase in the long Catholic tradition. Under his Pope condition, he knew how to seed the idea of a revamping event in the name of a divine inspiration and with the set of bishops’ participation of the Church. (shrink)

Zones of social abandonment are emerging everywhere in Brazil’s big cities—places like Vita, where the unwanted, the mentally ill, the sick, and the homeless are left to die. No livro dois da Ética Nicomaqueia, Aristóteles afirma com clareza que a prática reiterada de ações virtuosas leva à constituição de uma determinada disposição de caráter, ou seja, o hábito funcionaria como uma segunda natureza, em função da fixidez e estabilidade da disposição por ele constituída, o que aparentemente impediria qualquer modificação no que concerne ao caráter. O problema é que várias passagens do Corpus Aristotelicum parecem contradizer esta asserção, permitindo uma leitura diferente daquela que sugeriria a ideia do hábito (...) como algo que operasse de modo similar à natureza. Este artigo propõe-se investigar se é possível uma leitura que permita, nas Éticas, bem como em outras obras do Corpus Aristotelicum, a possibilidade da mudança de caráter, da decadência ou da reforma moral, bem como sua implicação na investigação sobre o problema do determinismo e da responsabilidade moral. An overcomplete logic is a logic that ‘ceases to make the difference’: According to such a logic, all inferences hold independently of the nature of the statements involved. A negation-inconsistent logic is a logic having at least one model that satisfies both some statement and its negation. A negation-incomplete logic has at least one model according to which neither some statement nor its negation are satisfied. Paraconsistent logics are negation-inconsistent yet non-overcomplete; paracomplete logics are negation-incomplete yet non-overcomplete. A paranormal logic (...) is simply a logic that is both paraconsistent and paracomplete. -/- Despite being perfectly consistent and complete with respect to classical negation, nearly every normal modal logic, in its ordinary language and interpretation, admits to some latent paranormality: It is paracomplete with respect to a negation defined as an impossibility operator, and paraconsistent with respect to a negation defined as non-necessity. In fact, as it will be shown here, even in languages without a primitive classical negation, normal modal logics can often be alternatively characterized directly by way of their paranormal negations and related operators. So, instead of talking about ‘necessity’, ‘possibility’, and so on, modal logics could be seen just as devices tailored for the study of (modal) negation. Durante o período fascista, a imprensa era considerada um instrumento fundamental para a criação do “homem novo” italiano e, da mesma forma, para a difusão dos ideais do fascismo fora da Itália. Através de várias agências governamentais, o governo italiano promovia a circulação de artigos e de material de propaganda pelo mundo, nos mais diversos idiomas. Do mesmo modo, a imprensa em língua italiana, publicada nos vários países de imigração italiana, servia de instrumento para essa mesma divulgação. O objetivo dessa (...) comunicação é apresentar os canais de reprodução jornalística, tanto em língua italiana como em outros idiomas, que conectavam a Itália com os países da América Latina. Em última instância, o objetivo é verificar como a imprensa e os jornalistas foram fundamentais na criação de uma rede transnacional fascista entre a Itália, a Europa e a América Latina no período considerado. Binge-purge eating disorders (BP-ED), such as bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder, may share some neurobiological features. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive measurement modality that may aid in research and diagnosis of BP-ED. We conducted a systematic review of the literature on EEG findings in BP-ED, seeking to summarize and analyze the current evidence, as well as identify shortcomings and gaps to inform new perspectives for future studies. Following PRISMA Statement recommendations, the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were (...) searched using terms related to “electroencephalography” and “binge-purge” eating disorders. Of 555 articles retrieved, 15 met predefined inclusion criteria and were included for full-text analysis. Eleven studies investigated EEG by means of event-related potentials (ERP) in BP-ED individuals: 7 using eating disorder-related stimuli (i.e., food, body image) and 4 using non-eating disorder-related stimuli (i.e., facial expressions or auditory clicks). These studies found significant differences in the N200, P200, P300, and LPP components in BP-ED participants compared to controls, indicating that this population exhibits impairments in selective attention, attentional allocation/processing, and allocation of motivational or emotion-based attention. Five studies investigated EEG using frequency analysis; reporting significant differences in beta activity in fronto-temporal and occipito-temporo-parietal areas in BP-ED individuals compared to controls, revealing a dysfunctional brain network. However, the small number of studies, the heterogeneity of samples, study paradigms, stimulus types, and the lack of an adequate assessment of neuropsychological parameters are some limitations of the current literature. Although some EEG data are promising and consistent with neuroimaging and neuropsychological findings in individuals with BP-ED, future studies need to overcome current methodological shortcomings. Ao estruturarem sua compreensão dos seres vivos enquanto máquinas autopoiéticas, Humberto Maturana e Francisco Varela reiteradamente tecem críticas à aplicação das noções de função e aptidão então estabelecidas em teorias científicas. Tais críticas apresentam-se em duas frentes principais: por um lado, os autores afirmam que atribuições funcionais são causalmente inertes, o que as reduz a meros artifícios explicativos não operacionalizáveis; por outro, defendem que todo organismo, enquanto não for destruído em suas interações com o meio, conserva sua aptidão, sendo esta (...) constitutiva dos seres vivos e, portanto, invariável. Contudo, como defende Gustavo Caponi, podemos compreender que atribuir funções significa nada mais do que destacar papeis causais desempenhados em determinados processos de referência, de modo que a comparação entre estruturas que desempenhem a mesma função possibilita a medição dos diferentes graus de eficiência em sua realização. No âmbito da biologia, esta estrutura conceitual traduz-se nas funções biológicas, operadas por diferentes subsistemas dos organismos e referentes à manutenção do ciclo vital, assim como na aptidão biológica, tomada como a eficiência na operação destas funções e determinante no processo evolutivo. Defendemos que a proposta de Caponi é imune a ambos os ataques dos autores chilenos, ao incorporar um conteúdo operacional e contextual para as atribuições funcionais e ao possibilitar a referência a aptidão biológica, cuja importância evolutiva pode ser aferida momento a momento. Tal abordagem mostra-se, ademais, como uma adição muito oportuna à chamada teoria da autopoiese, aparelhando-a com uma concepção bastante pertinente de atribuições funcionais. (shrink)

Cause-related marketing has risen to become a popular strategy to increase business value through profit-motivated giving. Despite the growing number of articles published in the last decade, no comprehensive analysis of the most discussed constructs of cause-related marketing is available. This paper uses an advanced Text Mining methodology to conduct a comprehensive analysis of 246 articles published in 40 different journals between 1988 and 2013 on the subject of cause-related marketing. Text Mining also allows quantitative analyses to be performed on (...) the literature. For instance, it is shown that the most prominent long-term topics discussed since 1988 on the subject are “brand-cause fit”, “law and Ethics”, and “corporate and social identification”, while the most actively discussed topic presently is “sectors raising social taboos and moral debates”. The paper has two goals: first, it introduces the technique of CTM to the Marketing area, illustrating how Text Mining may guide, simplify, and enhance review processes while providing objective building blocks to be used in a review; second, it applies CTM to the C-RM field, uncovering and summarizing the most discussed topics. Mining text, however, is not aimed at replacing all subjective decisions that must be taken as part of literature review methodologies. (shrink)

Recently several authors have proposed proxies of welfare that equate some (as opposed to all) choices with welfare. In this paper, I first distinguish between two prominent proxies: one based oncontext-independent choicesand the other based onreason-based choices. I then propose an original proxy based on choices that individuals state they would want themselves to repeat at the time of the welfare/policy evaluation (confirmed choices). I articulate three complementary arguments that, I claim, support confirmed choices as a more reliable proxy of (...) welfare than context-independent and reason-based choices. Following logicism, Frege famously held that logic is a science on its own. Particularly, he held the informativity thesis, viz., that logic is a science because it is deductively informative. This paper aims to understand Frege’s informativity thesis and its connection with the conception of logic as science. For such, it focuses on some features of Frege’s philosophy that are key for understanding this connection, particularly his conception of analyticity, the role of judgments in inferential reasoning, and the use of (...) decomposition of functions as a means for concept-formation, which Frege names as fruitful definitions. A partir das máximas que, nas Máximas Capitais, se referem ao conceito de justiça, procede-se a uma circunscrição do que era para Epicuro a justiça e comparam-se as suas concepções sobre o tema com a tradição dominante do direito romano-germânico baseada no ius suum cuique tribuendi do Corpus Iuris Civilis e com os conceitos modernos e contemporâneos contratualistas de Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Hobbes e John Rawls e da Gevalt de Jacques Derrida e de Hannah Arendt.

Tradicionalmente, ‘fatalismo’ é compreendido como uma doutrina que ensina a rigidez de um fado que anula o poder das ações humanas. Essa acepção de fatalismo não é, contudo, corroborada por Nietzsche. O autor, entretanto, não abandona o termo e passa a compreendê-lo num sentido subvertido. Levando isso em conta, os objetivos de nosso trabalho consistem em: 1) examinar de que forma Nietzsche compreende o termo ‘fatalismo’ em alguns momentos de sua obra; 2) tentar mostrar que as acepções de fatalismo nesses (...) momentos possuem correspondência conceitual; 3) tentar entender a noção de fatalismo à luz da cosmologia nietzschiana. The perception involves a lot of enigmas, the unity between its content and form not always looking to be assured. Such enigmas are exemplified by the optical illusions, by Molyneux’s famous problem and also, as it interests us here, by the problem of the expression of colors in chromatic models, which express logical incompatibilities, but which refer to the territory of experience itself with colors and pigments. This article aims to bring together the thoughts of Theodor Adorno and Maurice Blanchot around the problem of humanism. The “jewish question”, as we can still call it along with Marx, is the central issue of this conversation. Starting from Blanchot’s intuition regarding the indestructibility of man and the role of judaism in revealing an exorbitant relation between men in the presence of Autrui, the article follows examining the seemingly opposite role of judaism in Adorno’s and Horkheimer’s dialectic of enlightenment. In this path, two topics stand out: the critique of hegelian dialectics, but also the rehabilitation of dialectics as an antidote to the regression of enlightenment; and the humanistic potencial retained in the concept of mimesis, especially in Adorno’s work, concept which also allows the resignification of judaism inside the dialectic of enlightenment. Este artigo tenta mostrar que as paixões naturais não dão conta, por si sós, da passagem da natureza ao Estado, por mais que o medo seja importante no começo da sociedade. A soberania da reta-razão em Hobbes parece ser necessária à criação do Estado civil. A razão natural, mediante as leis de natureza, apenas proíbe a um homem destruir sua vida ou privar-se dos meios necessários para preservá-la. Só uma razão geométrica, reta, que calcula segundo regras razoáveis, pode operar a (...) saída do estado de solidão em que os homens naturais se encontram inicialmente. O equacionamento da paz e da segurança para a vida satisfeita de cada homem impõe o cálculo que cria a unidade das vontades individuais, isto é, a forma geométrica do Estado soberano. (shrink)

In this paper, we intend to discuss if and in what sense semiosis (meaning process, cf. C. S. Peirce) can be regarded as an "emergent" process in semiotic systems. It is not our problem here to answer when or how semiosis emerged in nature. As a prerequisite for the very formulation of these problems, we are rather interested in discussing the conditions which should be fulfilled for semiosis to be characterized as an emergent process. The first step in this work (...) is to summarize a systematic analysis of the variety of emergence theories and concepts, elaborated by Achim Stephan. Along the summary of this analysis, we pose fundamental questions that have to be answered in order to ascribe a precise meaning to the term "emergence" in the context of an understanding of semiosis. After discussing a model for explaining emergence based on Salthe's hierarchical structuralism, which considers three levels at a time in a semiotic system, we present some tentative answers to those questions. O jornal Tribuna Criciumense foi o único impresso publicado na cidade de Criciúma no período deste escrito. Fundado em 1955, ele passou por três fases. Na primeira, produziu um discurso anticomunista, mas de maneira um pouco tímida. Na segunda fase, com curta duração, o impresso passou a valorizar a ideologia comunista e, ao mesmo tempo, a defesa do presidente João Goulart. A última fase foi marcada por ataques violentos contra o comunismo, em defesa do golpe civil-militar e da ditadura implantada. (...) Introduction Intensive care units are contexts in which, due to the remarkable existence of particularly technological resources, interventions are promoted to extend the life of people who experience highly complex health situations. This ability can lead to a culture of death denial where the possibility of implementing futile care and treatment cannot be excluded. Objective To describe nurses’ perceptions of adult intensive care units regarding the therapeutic futility of interventions implemented to persons in critical health conditions. Method Review of the (...) literature following the Scoping Review protocol of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The Population, Concept, and Context mnemonic was used to elaborate the research question and the research was performed using the EBSCOHost search engine in the CINAHL Complete databases, MEDLINE Complete, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews to identify studies published between 1990 and 2019. Seven studies were selected. Results Nurses consider that therapeutic futility, a current problem in adult intensive care units, may have a negative impact on persons in critical health conditions and that contributes directly to resource expenditure and moral conflicts and consequently leads to emotional exhaustion. Conclusion Due to the complexity of this concept, knowing and understanding people’s and families’ perceptions is crucial to the decision-making process, for which reason nurses can play a key role in managing these situations. In this paper, we investigate the rules that should underlie a computer program that is capable of revising its beliefs or opinions. Such a program maintains a model of its environment, which is updated to reflect perceived changes in the environment. This model is stored in a knowledge base, and the program draws logical inferences from the information in the knowledge base. All the inferences drawn are added to the knowledge base. Among the propositions in the knowledge base, there are (...) some in which the program believes, and there may be others in which the program does not believe. Inputs from the outside world or reasoning carried out by the program may lead to the detection of contradictions, in which case the program has to revise its beliefs in order to get rid of the contradiction and to accommodate the new information.
