Early Islam in Medina: Mālik and His Muwaṭṭa’, yazar Yasin Dutton (London: Bloomsbury Academic, 2021), 144 sayfa, ISBN: 9781350261860. [REVIEW]Ömer Yılmaz - 2022 - Atebe 8:345-350.
Dört büyük fıkıh mezhebinden birisinin kurucusu olan İmam Malik, sahih rivayetleri derlediği eserine Muvatta adını vermiştir. Muvatta aynı zamanda ilk fıkıh formülasyonu durumundadır, ilk müslüman toplumun resmini çizen bir kaynak durumundadır ve İslam'ın yazıya geçirilmeden önce bir aksiyon olarak yaşanan halini ortaya koymaktadır. Fıkhın ve hadisin ilk yazılı kaynaklarından birisini teşkil eden bu eser, hadislerin sıhhatine yönelik özellikle batı kaynaklı eleştirilere en iyi cevap durumundadır. Dünyanın farklı coğrafyalarındaki raviler, Muvatta'ı aynı şekilde nakletmek suretiyle sahih hadislerin aynı zamanda Hz. Peygamber döneminden (...)

One of the most striking features of speculative theology (kalaam) as it developed within the Ash'arite tradition of Islam is its denial of causal power to creatures. Much like Malebranche in the seventeenth century, the Ash'arites saw this denial as a natural extension of monotheism and were led as a result to embrace an occasionalist account of causality. According to their analysis, causal power is identical with creative power, and since God is the sole and sovereign creator, God is the (...)

An Analysis of Verses Related to Shafaat in the Quranic Integrity.Yasin PİŞGİN - 2023 - Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 27 (1):61-75.
Today as it was in the past, faith in shafaat is accepted by some groups while it is rejected by some others and both sides base their views on the Qur’an. When we examine the Qur'an, we see that some of the verses related to the theme refer to the existence of shafaat and the other part of it speaks the absence of shafaat. The Qur'an is a divine book which superstitious cannot get close to it in anyway. One of (...)

The Polemic of an Unknown Jewish Convert to Islam (14th century): Ta’yīd al-millah.Yasin Meral - 2020 - Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 24 (2):857-877.
In the polemical literature against Judaism, it is stated that Islam is the last religion, Prophet Muhammad was foretold in the Bible, and the Bible is distorted. Among the authors of such works, there are many who embraced Islam from Jews and Christians. Through their works, these converts show Muslims how serious they are in embracing Islam. In this article, the treatise under the evaluation was first brought to the agenda in 1867 by Gustav Flügel (d. 1870). Flügel claimed that (...)

The Art Instinct reveals that it is, combining evolutionary psychology with aesthetics to shed new light on fascinating questions about the nature of art.

İbn Arabî’nin Fusûsü’l-hikem’in Âdem Fassı’nda yer verdiği umûr-ı külliye kavramı, Fusûs şârihleri tarafından muhtelif şekillerde alımlanmıştır. Spiritual Reading Culture in Medieval Western Christian Monasticism (c. 6-12.): Lectio Divina.Yasin Güzeldal - 2022 - Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 26 (1):251-267.
In this research, the key elements of lectio divina, which is a Western spiritual practice, were tried to be mentioned. Many new practices emerged in the transition from desert monasticism, where early Christian monasticism emerged, to the settled monastic order, which attached little importance to reading other than the Bible. The habit of reading has also become one of the indispensable elements of the monastery after the transition to the settled monasteries. The entry of this term into monastic literature dates (...)

If a catalogue were made of terms commonly used to affirm the adequacy of critical interpretations of works of art, one word certain to be included would be “plausible.” Yet this term is one which has received precious little attention in the literature of aesthetics. This is odd, inasmuch as I find the notion of plausibility central to an understanding of the nature of criticism. “Plausible” is a perplexing term because it can have radically different meanings depending on the circumstances (...)

Three hundred and thirty‐six employees in different organizations (specializing in software development, medicine, law enforcement, telecommunication, pharmaceutics, and banking) across Pakistan completed our questionnaire. The results revealed that abusive supervision was positively related to deviant workplace behavior. Moreover, the moderation of an Islamic Work Ethic on the relationship between abusive supervision and deviant work behavior was confirmed. The (...)

The aim of this study is to put forward a critical analysis about the working of neo-liberal power in which we live with a specific reference to Byung Chul-Han. He claims that Foucault’s consideration of bio-politics as a power which focuses on body falls behind to explain the relations of power in the contemporary neo-liberal order and the structure of individual and society. In order to overcome this shortcoming, Chul-Han claims that the power of neo-liberal order is a pschyo-politics which (...)

The charge that a particular critical remark is “irrelevant” to its object is one of the most frequently heard in discussion and debate among critics. Frequently heard because frequently true: there has never been a shortage of criticism which aimlessly relates the work to the artist’s biography, or invokes inappropriate artistic standards, or employs pointless historical speculation, or describes the critic’s own foggy reveries to misdirect our attention and obscure the essential significance of the object before us. But even if (...)

South Korea created miracles out of a mess in the second half of the twentieth century. They have built an industrial production and export giant called Han Miracle and a democratic culture. They also began to create a cultural fever worldwide called the Korean Wave. However, what makes the Korean modernisation story unique compared to other development experiences in Asia is neither its industrial development nor its democratisation. The rapid Christianisation, especially the Protestantisation of Korea, which walks alongside modernisation, is (...)

Plato and Aristo- tle were motivated both to account for the Greek arts of their day and to connect aesthetics to their general metaphysics and theories of value. Closer to our time, asNo¨el Carroll observes, the theories of Clive Bell and R.G. Utopia as ‘genuine progress’.Buğra Yasin - 2018 - Thesis Eleven 144 (1):13-29.
This paper reexamines Adorno’s conception of utopia within the context of his critique of the concept of progress. It contests the standard interpretation which conveys Adorno’s conception of utopia to be imbued with an essentially extra-historical idea of redemption.
