In Queer Social Philosophy, Randall Halle analyzes key texts in the tradition of German critical theory from the perspective of contemporary queer theory, exposing gender and sexuality restrictions that undermine those texts' claims of universal truth. Addressing such figures as Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Adorno, and Habermas, Halle offers a unique contribution to contemporary debates about sexuality, civil society, and politics.

Using cinema to explore the visual aspects of alterity, Randall Halle analyzes how we become cognizant of each other and how we perceive and judge another person in a visual field. Foucault's discussion of the panopticon is the best-known engagement with visual epistemology, the relationship of sight and knowledge. Yet the panopticon is only one form of visual epistemology and all technologies of perspective position and situate their subjects. As a colloquial statement of visual epistemology we might say: you are how you see. This essay focuses on the cinematic episteme or how the technology of cinema configures a way of seeing and way of knowing. Specifically this essay takes up a (...) narrower question of visual alterity. Beginning from Hegel's discussion of consciousness, it asks how within and through film we recognise our self and how can we see the other? To carry out the analysis, the essay attends in particular to two films Baby I will Make You Sweat (1994) and La Moderna Poesia (2000) by experimental and underground artist Birgit Hein. These films combine incongruous and even conflicting representational strategies that particularly enable an exploration of visual alterity. Both films on the one hand narrate a highly subjective experience of self/other relations within the context of a travel narrative: a woman seeking to recapture some sense of life, travels to an unfamiliar destination, enters into new environments and takes up relationships, sometimes intimate, with strangers. On the other hand they both rely on a form of aesthetic abstraction that leaves the film without renaissance perspective, panoptic organizing, shot-reverse shot, continuity editing, i.e. an of the typical representational strategies of alterity found in narrative films. Research in sport pedagogy and its applied recommendations are still characterized by a contrast between the different learning theories from psychology. Traditional theories and their corresponding approaches to the specific case of teaching and learning “how to play [team sports like soccer]” are subject to compatibilities and incompatibilities. We discuss how behaviorism as an approach to teaching the game shows more incompatibilities with the nature of tactical actions when compared to constructivism. As coaches strive to teach the game and make (...) their players and team perform, we argue that teaching the game requires teaching approaches that will help develop their way to play without taking away their autonomy and adaptiveness. The teaching-learning-training process for playing the game should then be conducted to harmonize the characteristics of the contents, the context, and the individual at hand. We provide two illustrated examples and portray how the recommended approaches fit key contents of the game that are observed in the tactical behavior. We finally argue that the coherent design of games provides minimal conditions to teaching approaches, and that such a design should be a priority when elaborating the learning activities along the player development process. As a conclusion, the interactionist theory is the one that best serves the teaching of the game and the development of tactical behavior. We therefore defend that its principles can help coaches tailor their own strategy to teach the game with the many tools. (shrink)

Ce chapitre présente le projet « Interphonologie du français contemporain » (IPFC), qui vise à constituer et analyser une large base de données de français langue étrangère produit par des apprenants de diverses L1. Nous illustrons ensuite la méthodologie adoptée dans le projet à travers le phénomène de la liaison. Après avoir exposé les enjeux de la liaison pour le français L2, nous présentons une étude préliminaire des réalisations de liaisons par des apprenants hispanophones et japonophones en lecture de texte (...) et montrons en quoi le projet IPFC est susceptible de fournir des données diversifiées en termes d’apprenants et de tâches, ce qui devrait, à terme, permettre un renouvellement des données pour l’enseignement de la liaison en français L2. Foucault and Th. Hobbes regarding war as a principle and foundation of power, the article shows the importance of this conceptual difference for contemporary political analyses. Foucault argues that in modern Western societies, the political community and, more specifically, politics itself, has been the space of a war waged by other means. Gerald Odonis' treatise on contracts, restitutions, and excommunication is one of his earliest works, composed in Toulouse ca. 1315-17. Mainly based on Peter John Olivi's De contractibus, but using a variety of other sources and offering some original arguments as well, it is remarkable for its pragmatic approach to economic phenomena. His rejection of the rational argument against usury reveals a casual use of the bull Exiit qui seminat, defining Franciscan poverty, as well as a change of assumptions in the (...) approach to economic exchange. Whereas various explanations can be provided for the provocative aspect of this youthful treatise, all in all, it can best be described as a free and uninhibited interpretation of the scholastic tradition. An extensive analysis of all social psychology textbooks included a history chapter published in French between 1947 and 2001, provides a rich corpus for the study of the history of social psychology. Drawing upon this corpus, in this article we study the historical spaces of social psychology in order to show how the discipline was located in geographical, urban, institutional and collective spaces. We argue that spaces are essentially related to some solitary and consensual scholars' names without any informative reference (...) to their institutions, nor to any trace of collective work. Moreover, we try to highlight several styles, ways and norms of collective writing the history of this discipline. (shrink)

Cet article propose d’interroger la mise en mot du risque associée à la post-exploitation de l’uranium. En effet, à travers la définition de ce qui fait problème, se joue la caractérisation du risque et de ses enjeux temporels. En complément des approches qui portent sur les controverses, l’approche porte sur une analyse sémantique. Alors même que le débat sur le nucléaire se structure autour des « pour » et des « contre », cette analyse sémantique vise à comprendre les objets (...) mêmes des discours et leur inscription dans le temps en fonction du rôle des acteurs. Celle-ci montre une qualification fortement différenciée du problème et une définition du risque loin d’être homogène pour l’ensemble des acteurs. Ce résultat met en exergue la difficulté à s’accorder sur la prise en compte du risque environnemental sur les territoires. (shrink)

En este artículo que dedicamos a las concepciones epistemológicas de Jean Cavaillès sobre el pensamiento formal y la teoría de la ciencia, analizaremos, en un primer tiempo, cómo la filosofía de las matemáticas de Cavaillès se presenta como una severa censura del logicismo y, en particular, de la empresa universalista de Carnap cuya sintaxis lógica es el blanco de las reprobaciones del filósofo francés, tanto en lo que atañe a la cuestión del formalismo como a la que estudia la relación (...) que mantiene la mathesis formalis con la física en la epistemología de Carnap. En un segundo tiempo, dado las simpatías de Cavaillès por la matemática intuicionista y una cierta resonancia de su epistemología con la de Brouwer, procuraremos subrayar, a partir del análisis crítico realizado por el propio Cavaillès, las dificultades a las que se expone el intuicionismo. Lo veremos, por una parte, en la indeterminación de la matemática a la física y, por otra parte, en el peligro de encontrarse la ciencia absorbida por la matemática si se admite, con el matemático holandés, que ésta es pensamiento racional del mundo. En la tercera y última parte del artículo, esbozaremos el programa de trabajo de Cavaillès, su última hoja de ruta, a favor de una epistemología constructiva y refinada de las matemáticas, entendidas a la vez en su esencia más pura y en su relación praxeológica con las ciencias de la naturaleza. En definitiva, se tratará de aproximarnos al proyecto de Cavaillès, entendido como una epistemología conceptual, fundada en una aproximación rigurosamente bolzaniana de lo lógico, una teoría pura de los encadenamientos racionales, que contempla a la vez la determinación de las posibilidades de los objetos y las posibilidades de determinación de éstos. Tal empresa, lo veremos, se apoya sobre una noción fuerte de necesidad cuyo carácter imprevisible escapa a las mallas de la lógica y atraviesa toda la praxis matemática en su temporalidad propia. Increasing interest has been paid to applications of fluorescence measurements to analyze physiological mechanisms in living cells. However, few studies have taken advantage of DNA quantification by fluorometry for dynamic assessment of chromatin organization as well as cell motion during the cell cycle. This approach involves both optimal conditions for DNA staining and cell tracking methods. In this context, this report describes a stoichiometric method for nuclear DNA specific staining, using the bisbenzimidazole dye Hoechst 33342 associated with verapamil, a calcium (...) membrane channel blocker. This method makes it possible to correlate variations of nuclear DNA content with cell motion in cells that are maintained alive. Motion measurement is the second goal of this paper and it explains the snake-spline method, and the associated cell following method. (shrink)

This paper solves a natural but still open question: can abstract categorial grammars (ACGs) respresent usual categorial grammars? Despite their name and their claim to be a unifying framework, up to now there was no faithful representation of usual categorial grammars in ACGs. This paper shows that Non-Associative Lambek grammars as well as their derivations can be defined using ACGs of order two. To conclude, the outcome of such a representation are discussed.
