The Permanent Suspicion. The Romanian Communist Party and its International Cadres.Ştefan Bosomitu - 2023 - History of Communism in Europe 11:95-118.
This article attempts to explore the relations between the Romanian Communist Party and its “international” cadres after the end of the Second World War and its accession to power. Beyond a simply descriptive exegesis, the present study tries to capture the evolution of those relationships, and especially how the power relations between the two entities unfolded in the context of a paradigm shift: the legalisation of the party, its transformation into an important force of the political scene and, finally, its (...)

Nonconsensual Dose Reduction Mandates are Not Justified Clinically or Ethically: An Analysis.Stefan G. Kertesz, Ajay Manhapra & Adam J. Gordon - 2020 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 48 (2):259-267.
This manuscript describes the institutional and clinical considerations that apply to the question of whether to mandate opioid dose reduction in patients who have received opioids long-term. It describes how a calamitous rise in addiction and overdose involving opioids has both led to a clinical recalibration by healthcare providers, and to strong incentives favoring forcible opioid reduction by policy making agencies. Neither the 2016 Guideline issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention nor clinical evidence can justify or promote (...)

    Sacrificing Justice.Stefan Dolgert - 2012 - Political Theory 40 (3):263-289.
Democratic theorists have increasingly turned to Aeschylus’ Oresteia as a resource for challenging the shortcomings of liberal theory, but I argue that this particular return to Greek tragedy should be treated with a healthy dose of skepticism. Defenders of Aeschylean justice have underplayed the sacrificial aspects of his solution to the problem of civil strife, mistaking the consent of the Furies for a resolution that escapes the cycle of violence. Drawing on elements of Greek ritual practice, I contend that Aeschylus (...)

Vom socialen Staat über den Sozialstaat zu den Sozialmächten im Wohlfahrtsstaat.Stefan Koslowski - 2015 - Archiv für Rechts- und Sozialphilosophie 101 (2):202-225.
An historical and intellectual review shows that the plan of realisation of the welfare state principle builds less upon philosophical concepts than upon religious, socialist, liberal-concervative, and socialdemocratic ideas. Lorenz von Stein combined socialist ideas of the public good, enlightment philosophy, and the Utopia of St.-Simon, Fourier and German idealism. Gouvermental achievements are limited to the economic capacity of he society, which is why financial science must,,...also establish the measure of the attainable for these tasks.“ With the transformation of the (...)

Aesthetic Judgments and Their Cultural Grounding: Some Thoughts on the Problem of Ascribing Aesthetic Concepts to Works of Art.Stefan Majetschak - 2018 - Yearbook for Eastern and Western Philosophy 2018 (3):269-281.
At present, the theoretical approaches of Baumgarten and Kant continue to constitute the framework for discussing the nature of aesthetic judgments about art, including the question of what such judgments are really articulating. In distinction to those two eighteenth-century theorists, today we would largely avoid an assumption that aesthetic judgments necessarily attribute beauty to the objects being judged; we would as a rule take a far more complex approach to the topic. But whatever we say about art, even today many (...)

    Are phonons particles?Stefan Marinov - 1982 - Foundations of Physics 12 (5):543-550.
If phonons are particles, they must be attached to absolute space through their proper masses, which depend on the absolute velocities. In such a case one should be able to register with phonons the Sagnac and Marinov effects which have been observed with massless and massive particles (photons and neutrons). The experimental possibilities for such experiments are analyzed.

    Gebetsparodien des hohen und späten Mittelalters.Stefan Matter - 2019 - Das Mittelalter 24 (2):370-389.
This article addresses the possible conditions under which parodies of prayer could emerge and be transmitted in the High and Late Middle Ages. It aims to offer a systematic overview over the different forms of prayer parody in the German-speaking Middle Ages. After some preliminary remarks on definitions I suggest a typology of German-speaking prayer parodies and conclude with some general observations on the possible contexts in which such texts were used.

Karl Leonhard Reinholds Begriff der Deduktion.Stefan Lang - 2021 - Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie 103 (3):531-561.
K.L. Reinhold’s interpretation of deduction plays a seminal role in the development of German Idealism. However, as yet Reinhold’s concept of deduction has not been sufficiently explained. The goals of this paper are to analyze Reinhold’s notion of deduction in his Neue Darstellung der Hauptmomente der Elementarphilosophie, to reconstruct his deduction of a priori forms of representation and to discuss his deduction critically. In doing so, I will present Reinhold’s objections against Immanuel Kant’s method in the Critique of Pure Reason.

Freedom, democracy and constitutionalism in Europe.Stefan Auer - 2024 - Contemporary Political Theory 23 (2):311-318.
A sociologist, a historian and a legal scholar looked at the state of contemporary western societies and none of them liked what they saw. Wolfgang Streeck, Perry Anderson and Martin Loughlin share a concern for the erosion of democracy in Europe, along with the virtues that make democratic citizenship a viable basis for self-governing societies. From their differing perspectives, they decry the advance of neoliberalism, which prioritises individual aspirations at the expense of the common good.

Multicultural education: embeddedness, voice and change.Stefan Ramaekers - 2010 - Ethics and Education 5 (1):55-66.
This article is a discussion of a dominant (and mostly taken-for-granted) discourse of multicultural education (the phrase 'intercultural education' is sometimes used). My aim is, simply, to highlight two issues which, I think, are insufficiently dealt with in relation to multicultural education: the observation that differences can be irreconcilable and the idea of change. In the first part of this article, I try to sketch this discourse by giving some examples in which some characteristic markers of this discourse are illustrated (...)
