    Absolutely Zero Evidence.Veronica J. Vieland & Sang-Cheol Seok - forthcoming - Philosophy of Science:1-14.
Statistical analysis is often used to evaluate the strength of evidence for or against scientific hypotheses. Here we consider evidence measurement from the point of view of representational measurement theory, focusing in particular on the 0-points of measurement scales. We argue that a properly calibrated evidence measure will need to count up from absolute 0, in a sense to be defined, and that this 0-point is likely to be something other than what one might have expected. This suggests the need (...)

Apology and Its Acceptance: Perceived Reconciliatory Attitudes Reduce Outgroup Dehumanization.Wen Jie Jin, Sang Hee Park & Joonha Park - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13:809513.
Based on real-life intergroup animosities originating from a historical conflict, the current study examined how the perceived stance of the outgroup about the conflict affects the dehumanization of the outgroup. In Study 1 (N= 120), Korean undergraduates attributed morehuman natureto the Japanese after reading an article that the Japanese government did (vs. refused to) issue an official apology for a historical wrong. In turn, the more human nature assigned to the Japanese predicted higher expectations about positive mutual relations in the (...)

Impact of the life-sustaining treatment decision act on organ donation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in South Korea: a multi-centre retrospective study.Min Jae Kim, Dong Eun Lee, Jong Kun Kim, In Hwan Yeo, Haewon Jung, Jung Ho Kim, Tae Chang Jang, Sang-Hun Lee, Jinwook Park, Deokhyeon Kim & Hyun Wook Ryoo - 2024 - BMC Medical Ethics 25 (1):1-9.
The demand for organ transplants, both globally and in South Korea, substantially exceeds the supply, a situation that might have been aggravated by the enactment of the Life-Sustaining Treatment Decision Act (LSTDA) in February 2018. This legislation may influence emergency medical procedures and the availability of organs from brain-dead donors. This study aimed to assess LSTDA’s impact, introduced in February 2018, on organ donation status in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients in a metropolitan city and identified related factors. We conducted (...)

The Fourth Industrial Revolution and implications for innovative cluster policies.Sang-Chul Park - 2018 - AI and Society 33 (3):433-445.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution has become a global buzz word since the World Economic Forum adopted it as an annual issue in 2016. It is represented by hyper automation and hyper connectivity based on artificial intelligence, big data, robotics, and Internet of things. AI, big data, and robotics can contribute to developing hyper automation that can increase productivity and intensify industrial production. Particularly, robots using AI can make decision by themselves as human being on complicated processes. Along with the hyper (...)

Cosmopolitan Sociology and Confucian Worldview: Beck’s Theory in East Asia.Sang-Jin Han, Young-Hee Shim & Young-Do Park - 2016 - Theory, Culture and Society 33 (7-8):281-290.
This article aims at an active dialogue between Ulrich Beck and East Asia with respect to cosmopolitan imagination. Beck’s cosmopolitan sociology requires a reflective cosmopolitan publicness to cope with various kinds of global risks. We therefore extract three different layers of publicness from neo-Confucianism – survival-oriented, deliberative, and ecological – and argue that Beck’s cosmopolitan vision can be better conceptualized when properly linked to, or founded upon, the Tianxiaweigong normative potentials of neo-Confucianism. In so doing our intention is to make (...)

Exploring Trends in Environmental, Social, and Governance Themes and Their Sentimental Value Over Time.Joonbeom Park, Woojoo Choi & Sang-Uk Jung - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Environmental, social, and governance is an indicator that measures a company’s non-financial performance. Many firms have recently emphasized the importance of ESG. Ascertaining what topics are being discussed around ESG and how they change over time will contribute significantly to gaining insight into ESG. Using 73,397,870 text data scraped and refined from publicly available Twitter data, this study applied Latent Dirichlet Allocation and the dynamic topic model to ascertain the hidden structure of the ESG-related document collection and the topics being (...)

Innovation policy and strategic value for building a cross-border cluster in Denmark and Sweden.Sang-Chul Park - 2014 - AI and Society 29 (3):363-375.
In a knowledge-based economy, the role of regions is regarded as very significant for creating and dispersing knowledge. Particularly, geographical clusters of firms in a single sub-national region and cross-border regions may contribute to transmitting certain kinds of knowledge between and among firms. In addition, markets prefer to favor specialized firms with a coherent body of knowledge when knowledge creation and the use of new knowledge become increasingly important for maintaining and improving a firm’s competitiveness. This means that regional policy (...)

Multicultural Citizenship Education and the Community of Philosophical Inquiry.Sang Wook Park - 2024 - Childhood and Philosophy 20:01-28.
Modern civic education in multicultural society faces two diametrically opposed challenges: universality and diversity. Those who emphasize universality argue that multicultural civic education should be based on universal values, goals, and concepts. However, those who emphasize diversity say that different concepts and ideals should be allowed and respected across cultures, genders, ethnicities, etc. Multicultural education aims to promote the coexistence of people from different cultural backgrounds within a nation. In this article, I seek a way between these two extremes by (...)

Who's Who and Whereabouts of Japanese Political Studies in South Korea: With a Focus on the Third Generation Japan Specialists.Cheol Hee Park - 2010 - Japanese Journal of Political Science 11 (3):307-331.
This article is an attempt to identify who's who and the whereabouts of Japanese political studies in South Korea. Previous studies suggest that South Korea made a delayed start in Japanese studies because of submerged anti-Japanese feeling among the general public, and that linguistic and humanistic studies were prevalent while social scientific studies lagged behind. The second generation scholars, who actively published their academic works on Japan between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, contributed to the development of objective, (...)

Competitiveness of East Asian science cities: discourse on their status as global or local innovative clusters. [REVIEW]Sang-Chul Park - 2012 - AI and Society 27 (4):451-464.

Seoul digital complex as a strategy for building innovative cluster.Sang-Chul Park - 2009 - AI and Society 24 (4):393-402.
In line with the new trend of the global economy, building innovative local clusters has become one of the core strategies to enhance economic development not only in the developed but also in the developing nations. Particularly the role and potential of localized innovation processes within clusters have been attracting considerable interests among scholars and policy makers alike. It is argued that the intensity and quality of competition is enhanced by the proximity of competitors in clusters. The paper argues how (...)
