Art as Revolt: Thinking Politics Through Immanent Aesthetics.David Fancy & Hans Arthur Skott-Myhre (eds.) - 2019 - Chicago: Mcgill-Queen's University Press.
How can we imagine a future not driven by capitalist assumptions about humans and the wider world? How are a range of contemporary artistic and popular cultural practices already providing pathways to post-capitalist futures? Authors from a variety of disciplines answer these questions through writings on blues and hip hop, virtual reality, post-colonial science fiction, virtual gaming, riot grrrls and punk, raku pottery, post-pornography fanzines, zombie films, and role playing. The essays in Art as Revolt are clustered around themes such (...)

On foresight functions of rhetorical invention in acts of counselling.Maria Joanna Gondek - 2022 - Roczniki Filozoficzne 70 (3):165-178.
Counselling acts consist in indicating useful activities, remedying human deficiencies. Counselling acts are guided by practical cognition. Since counselling activities are oriented towards the future, their crucial element is foresight. It is cognitive reflection foreseeing the implementation of counselling acts. Counselling acts are actualised in rhetorical and communicational context which is associated with persuasive delivery of counselling content. Belonging to the rhetorical canon, invention disposes of factors that influence the justifying formulation of advisory content. Invention factors introduce the anticipatory determinations (...)

The problem of dehumanisation in the light of Mieczysław Wallis' intellectual biography.Joanna Zegzuła-Nowak - 2024 - Analiza I Egzystencja 66:25-78.
Artykuł przedstawia etyczny problem dehumanizacji w perspektywie prac i doświadczeń Mieczysława Wallisa, polskiego uczonego, przedstawiciela filozoficznej szkoły lwowsko-warszawskiej.

Marcin Iwanicki i Joanna Klara Teske).John Martin Fischer, Marcin Iwanicki & Joanna Klara Teske - 2021 - Roczniki Filozoficzne 69 (4):441-465.
The author argues that the moral of the Frankfurt stories is this: if causal determinism rules out moral responsibility, it is not in virtue of eliminating alternative possibilities, and replies the most important challenge to this claim, namely an argument called “The Dilemma Defense.”.

Ethics in Economic Thought: Selected Issues and Various Perspectives.Joanna Dzionek-Kozlow & Rafal Matera - 2015 - Cambridge University Press.
This book reformulates the central questions of ethics in economic thought. It reconsiders the purpose of economic activity, the ethical values of entrepreneurs, and the Aristotelian dilemma of differentiating between needs and desires to better understand the rise of consumerism. The book also examines cultural factors, the role of religion, and the significance of informal institutions, ultimately showing how less developed countries can increase opportunities for all of their citizens.

Intergenerational Equity.Wilfred Beckerman & Joanna Pasek - 2001 - In Wilfred Beckerman & Joanna Pasek (eds.), Justice, Posterity, and the Environment. Oxford University Press.
Discusses one principle that has been suggested as a guide to the way we ought to take account of the interests of future generations, namely the principle of intergenerational ‘equity’ and its related claim of intergenerational equality, particularly in spheres such as the way we should share out ‘finite’ resources among generations. This chapter examines the possible arguments in favour of intergenerational egalitarianism and concludes that they are difficult to defend. It is proposed that egalitarianism should be replaced by the (...)

International Justice and Sharing the Burden of Environmental Protection.Wilfred Beckerman & Joanna Pasek - 2001 - In Wilfred Beckerman & Joanna Pasek (eds.), Justice, Posterity, and the Environment. Oxford University Press.
Some current environmental problems are global and have public good elements that raise, in an acute form, the question of how the costs of a collective effort from which the world as a whole will benefit should be shared out among poor and rich countries. This chapter discusses how far theories of justice provide guidance to this question. It argues that the answer seems to be ‘very little’ and that, in order to arrive at some ground rules for allocating the (...)

International Justice and the Environment: Global Warming and Biodiversity.Wilfred Beckerman & Joanna Pasek - 2001 - In Wilfred Beckerman & Joanna Pasek (eds.), Justice, Posterity, and the Environment. Oxford University Press.
It is argued that although there may be some case, on economic grounds, for international cooperative action to deal with the threat of climate change or an excessive depletion of biodiversity, the advantages of participation in such action are probably not very great for most rich countries. Furthermore, some of the ‘ethical’ arguments advanced in support of the view that the rich countries should shoulder most of the burden of international action are weak. Nevertheless, there is a case for the (...)

Yours Faithfully, Bertrand Russell: A Lifelong Fight for Peace, Justice, and Truth in Letters to the Editor.Bertrand Russell & Ray Perkins - 2002 - Open Court Publishing.
"Yet Russell was more than a great intellect; he was also a political animal. From the beginning of his long professional life he emphasized the importance of practice as well as theory. He was twice imprisoned by the British government for his political utterances. With his razor-sharp irony and morally impassioned rhetoric, Russell took on the forces of injustice, ignorance, and cruelty; one of his chief weapons was the letter to the editor.".

It is known that various complexity-theoretical problems can be translated into some special spectra problems. Thus, questions about complexity classes are translated into questions about the expressive power of some languages. In this paper we investigate the spectra of some logics with Henkin quantifiers in the empty vocabulary.

Logics of similarity and their dual tableaux. A survey.Joanna Golińska-Pilarek & Ewa Orlowska - 2008 - In Giacomo Della Riccia, Didier Dubois & Hans-Joachim Lenz (eds.), Preferences and Similarities. Springer. pp. 129--159.
We present several classes of logics for reasoning with information stored in information systems. The logics enable us to cope with the phenomena of incompleteness of information and uncertainty of knowledge derived from such an information. Relational inference systems for these logics are developed in the style of dual tableaux.

Relational dual tableau decision procedure for modal logic K.Joanna Golińska-Pilarek, Emilio Munoz-Velasco & Angel Mora - 2012 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 20 (4):747-756.
We present a dual tableau system, RLK, which is itself a deterministic decision procedure verifying validity of K-formulas. The system is constructed in the framework of the original methodology of relational proof systems, determined only by axioms and inference rules, without any external techniques. Furthermore, we describe an implementation of the system RLK in Prolog, and we show some of its advantages.

Accumulating Resources in Perinatal Intensive Care Centers.Barbara Bridgman Perkins - 1993 - Business and Professional Ethics Journal 12 (2):51-66.
This paper engages in the ongoing dialog on "justice and the health care 'industry"'1 and addresses the question of whether market strategies are consistent with an ethical distribution of resources in health care. As it pertains to the development of perinatal services over the past twenty-five to thirty years in the United States, my short answer to this question is "no." Business organization and market-oriented strategies have contributed to the creation and extensive growth of perinatal intensive care centers located in (...)

In developing theory on Peace through Health, it seemed important to understand the ways in which health sector actors sought to influence peace in their arena of action. The McMaster group attempted a finer-grained examination of the fundamental mechanisms by which changes might be induced. By examining accumulated case studies, we developed the following typology (MacQueen et al. 1997). [REVIEW]Graeme MacQueen & Joanna Santa Barbara - 2008 - In Neil Arya & Joanna Santa Barbara (eds.), Peace through health: how health professionals can work for a less violent world.
