This article is dedicated to the intersection between the literary politics and the educational ideas of the German New Right. Focusing on two authors from the context of Antaios publishing, the first part deals with New Right educational concepts and the second part with a New Right pedagogy of literature, mimetic reading practices, and the figure of the reading mother.

Der Band beschäftigt sich mit dem Staunen als einem Moment der Grenzerfahrung und Grenzziehung, der Neugier und Überwältigung, der Erkenntnis und Blindheit, aber auch als Anfang von Denken, Erkennen, Sehen und Dichten. Staunen indiziert eine (noch) nicht kategorisierbare Fremdheit und konstituiert damit eine Grenze des Verstehens und Wissens. Damit wird es zum Ausdruck einer semantischen Leere vor dem Fremden. Als Moment der verunsichernden Reflexion kann es so zum Stimulus eines Begehrens nach Grenzüberschreitung werden. Andererseits kann es Ausdruck eines Zustands sein, (...) in dem sich ein radikal anderes, nicht mehr an Körper und Verstand gebundenes Wissen ereignet. In den interdisziplinären Beiträgen des Bandes wird Staunen, historisch und diskursiv je unterschiedlich akzentuiert, als Phänomen der Grenze reflektiert, das dann im Kunstdiskurs, von der Antike bis heute, zu einem Moment des lustvollen Verharrens auf den Grenzen der Wahrnehmung, des Wissens und der Erfahrung werden kann. The article explores the possibilities of literary studies as a hermeneutics of the social by focusing on intermediations of literary and social studies in the present and in the early days of the DVjs, i.e. in the 1920s. It first investigates, how sociology interrogates itself by reading detective stories (Kracauer, Boltanski). As a testing ground for the productivity of the proposed orientation the article then takes a closer look at German crime fiction of the interwar years (Perutz, Jacques) and demonstrates (...) how these novels problematize the workings of a social imaginary in the »time of monsters«.
