[This is an introductory metaethics textbook in Swedish.] Metaetiken behandlar filosofiska frågor om hur moraliska påståenden, moraliska uppfattningar, moraliska fakta och moralisk kunskap är beskaffade – liksom frågan om sådana fakta och sådan kunskap överhuvudtaget finns. I centrum för denna introduktionsbok står frågan om moralen är objektiv – hur ska denna fråga förstås och hur kan olika svar på den försvaras? I relation till denna fråga diskuteras en rad besläktade ämnen, bland annat gällande moralisk oenighet, förhållandet mellan moral (...) och vetenskap och frågan om moraliska övertygelser kan vara mer eller mindre rationella. Grundbok i metaetik är avsedd att användas vid universitetskurser i metaetik och relaterade ämnen. Framställningen kräver dock inga särskilda filosofiska förkunskaper, och boken kan därmed läsas av alla som är intresserade av ämnet. (shrink)

In _Objektiver und absoluter Geist_ nach Hegel Oehl and Kok offer an extensive selection of papers by established Hegel scholars exploring the wide spectrum of Hegel’s philosophy of spirit from the viewpoint of the distinction between objective and absolute spirit.

In Auseinandersetzung mit Thomas Nagels Mind and Cosmos, Ronald Dworkins Religion without God und Holm Tetens’ Gott denken zeigt der Aufsatz, dass der Theismus nur auf objektiv-idealistischer Grundlage eine sinnvolle Position ist, während dagegen ein nicht-theistischer objektiver Idealismus viel plausibler ist als ein Theismus ohne objektiven Idealismus. Aber er argumentiert, dass eine theistische Interpretation des objektiven Idealismus durchaus möglich, ja, natürlich ist.

The paper argues that a philosophically sound theory of cultural memory has to clarify three presuppositions. First, the relationship between individual and collective memory has to be explained. Second, the empirical data on recollection and memory provided by neurological and historical research has to be discussed in terms of a philosophy of culture. Third, the specific material and/or immaterial „memory-bearers“ or memory-media („Trägermedien“) in which cultural memory takes shape have to be examined. The article, then, shows that the first elaborate (...) account of cultural memory was given by 19th century „Völkerpsychologie“, inaugurated by Moritz Lazarus and Heyman Steinthal. Their theory of cultural memory was much indebted to a critical interpretation of Hegel’s conception of „objective spirit“. Accordingly, the last sections of the paper give a reexamination of Hegel’s theory of recollection and memory and deal with the question whether this theory can contribute to present cultural memory discourse. Wie ist es möglich, durch das Nachdenken über die notwendigen Bedingungen der Erfahrung und des Weltbezugs zu validen Aussagen über eine Welt zu gelangen, die unabhängig von erfahrenden Subjekten existiert? Die vorliegende Studie entwickelt dieses Problem der objektiven Geltung ausgehend von der zeitgenössischen Debatte um transzendentale Argumente. Sie gewinnt so einen systematischen Zugang zu zwei paradigmatischen Entwürfen des nachkantischen Idealismus: Hegels Phänomenologie des Geistes und Fichtes Wissenschaftslehre 1804-II. Im Zuge einer detailgenauen, auf systematische Fragen fokussierten Rekonstruktion beider Werke zeigt der (...) Autor, dass Hegel und Fichte das Problem objektiver Geltung jeweils unterschiedlich durch eine philosophische Therapie auflösen, welche die Form eines Aufstiegs zum absoluten Wissen hat. Die Studie präsentiert eine neuartige Lesart von Hegels Phänomenologie, die ihr Bezüge zur Methode geometrischer Konstruktion nachweist, sowie von Fichtes WL 1804, die die Rolle des Begrifflichen neu bestimmt. Systematisch entwickelt sie ein skeptisches ‚revenge problem‘: Der Idealismus ist mit einer internen Spannung von Objektivitätsanspruch und Skepsis behaftet, welche den transzendentalen Ansatz zur Steigerung seines Reflexionsniveaus auffordert. Unter ‚Sinn im Leben‘ verstehe ich einen persönlichen, intrinsischen Wert für einen Akteur A. Die auf den ersten Blick widersprüchlich erscheinende doppelte Intuition, dass ein SL nur subjektiv aufgefasst werden kann, zugleich aber objektiv ‚gut‘ ist, wird von Susan Wolf als ein Argument zugunsten einer ‚hybriden‘ subjektiv-objektiven Theorie des SL vorgebracht. Sie bringt ihr Verständnis von SL auf die mittlerweile sehr bekannte Formel „meaning in life arises when subjective attraction meets objective attractiveness“. In meinem Beitrag verteidige ich eine Variante eines (...) in einem weiten Sinne ‚hybriden‘, d. h. subjektive und objektive Merkmale verbindenden Verständnisses von SL. Ich entwickle diese Variante, die als ‚schwach objektivistisch‘ bezeichnet werden könnte, im Anschluss an Harry G. Frankfurt. Ich zeige, dass Frankfurts Position, der nicht zuletzt von Wolf ein ‚Subjektivismus‘ vorgehalten wird, mit dem hier skizzierten ‚schwachen‘ Objektivitätsverständnis kompatibel ist. Die Stärke des hier vorgeschlagenen SL-Verständnisses liegt darin, dass eine inhaltliche Evaluierung vermieden, zugleich aber der genannten doppelten Intuition entsprochen wird. Eine ethische oder moralische Evaluierung der von einem Akteur zum SL auserkorenen Werte bleibt davon unberührt. (shrink)

This epistemological study is conceived as a positive answer to the decisive philosophical and existential question concerning the possibility of true and certain human knowledge. Its author refuses to accept "the chaotic conditions" of the philosophy of our age when, owing to the prevailing immanentism and relativism, truths actually "are illusions of which it was forgotten that they are such," as Nietzsche rightly diagnosed the situation. He is convinced that the capability of knowing existing reality represents a constitutive element of (...) the human person and that the actual defence of the knowledge of objective truth is an essential presupposition of every attempt of its theoretical denial. So he takes St. Augustine’s and Descartes’s confrontation of sceptical argumentations as a basis and uses insights and method of the early Husserl and of the thinkers of the Phenomenological School of Munich, systematically to lay the foundation of a realistic philosophy of transcendence and to secure an escape from the prison of the idealism and immanentism of transcendentalistic philosophies. The history of benzodiazepine supply, as negotiated in the GDR following its commercial success in western markets in 1960, demonstrates how patients in East Germany (GDR) influenced drug policies by assuming the role of consumers. This article traces general political discussions on psycho-pharmaceuticals as essential components of a healthcare system that faced grave financial constraints, then focuses on the “Wunschverordnung” concept, that is, a prescription that was filled on request. This concept was ideologically employed to portray the rising demand for (...) tranquilizer drugs as inadequate. The ways in which citizens of the GDR influenced state decisions—import and production alike—on tranquilizer supply through petitions is investigated. The article concludes by discussing the scope and function of the activist role of patients as consumers in a socialist state. (shrink)

Since 1968 there has been a renewal of interest in Dilthey which has revealed new facets of his work and shown the need for a fundamental revision of the prevailing general conception of Dilthey. In 1968 Peter Krausser, in Kritik der endlichen Vernunft. Diltheys Revolution der allgemeinen Wissenschafts- und Handlungstheorie, brought out the connection between his epistemological and social-hermeneutic concerns by isolating a theory of functional structure running through his work which was seen as an anticipation of a cybernetic approach. (...) Krausser concluded by contrasting this "structure-theory" favorably with contending positions in current debate, Adorno and Habermas, Gadamer, and Popper. In the same year Habermas devoted two chapters of Erkenntnis und Interesse to Dilthey. Although he related him rather exclusively to a theoretical grounding of "the Geisteswissenschaften", the effect of Habermas’ parallel treatment of Dilthey, Peirce, and Freud was to free Dilthey from the confines of his received image. This worked to undermine the tripartite division of natural, humanistic, and social science which Habermas adapted from Scheler. Just as Peirce’s ideas on the fixation of belief concern not only experimental method but the psychology of experience, so Dilthey’s grasp of the relation of lived experience, objectivation, and understanding bears directly on experience in the full practical sense. In 1969 Frithjof Rodi, in Morphologie und Hermeneutik. Dilthey’s Ästhetik, connected his more "humanistic" work with his interests in biology and physiology, complementing the formal continuity of "structure-theory" established by Krausser and reintegrating this with a more familiar Dilthey. More recently others, above all Manfred Riedel and Ulrich Herrmann, have made important critical and editorial contributions, relying like Krausser on their familiarity with unpublished manuscripts, including that of the second volume of the Einleitung in die Geisteswissenschaften, which Rodi is currently editing, in collaboration with Johach, for publication as volumes 18 and 19 of the Gesammelte Schriften. The availability of these texts should consolidate the revolution of the conventional image of Dilthey, under way since 1968, and Johach’s book must be welcomed as an anticipation of that edition.
