Dipolar Tree Ensemble With and Without Adjustment to Competing Risks: Application to Medical Data.Małgorzata Krętowska - 2013 - Studies in Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric 35 (1):27-38.
The analysis of survival data often aims at the prediction of failure time distribution. In cases of competing risk events, the time distributions of more than one failure are under investigation. In this paper, the comparison of two approaches to analyzing survival data with competing risks is presented. The analyses are performed by use of an ensemble of dipolar trees with and without adjustment to competing risks.

    Building Stakeholder Theory with a Decision Modeling Methodology.Monika I. Winn - 2001 - Business and Society 40 (2):133-166.
This article focuses stakeholder theory on that critical juncture where stakeholder relationships and corporate policy decisions converge. A case study methodology is described that permits detailed analyses of multiple stakeholders’ objectives; it is suitable for studies of major corporate strategic decisions that are complex, controversial, involve multiple stakeholders, and require strategic trade-offs. The methodology is applied here to the dramatic decision by a Pacific Northwest forest company to phase out traditional clear-cut harvesting methods of old-growth forests. The study’s findings point (...)

    Akty woli w myśli średniowiecznej — od św. Augustyna do Wilhelma z Auxerre.

  10. Transferring Morality to Human–Nonhuman Chimeras.Monika Piotrowska - 2014 - American Journal of Bioethics 14 (2):4-12.
Human–nonhuman chimeras have been the focus of ethical controversies for more than a decade, yet some related issues remain unaddressed. For example, little has been said about the relationship between the origin of transferred cells and the morally relevant capacities to which they may give rise. Consider, for example, a developing mouse fetus that receives a brain stem cell transplant from a human and another that receives a brain stem cell transplant from a dolphin. If both chimeras acquire morally relevant (...)

Age differences in managing response to sadness elicitors using attentional deployment, positive reappraisal and suppression.Monika Lohani & Derek M. Isaacowitz - 2014 - Cognition and Emotion 28 (4):678-697.
The current study investigated age differences in the use of attentional deployment, positive reappraisal and suppression while regulating responses to sadness-eliciting content. We also tested to what extent these emotion regulation strategies were useful for each age group in managing response to age-relevant sad information. Forty-two young participants (Mage = 18.5, SE =.15) and 48 older participants (Mage = 71.42, SE = 1.15) watched four sadness-eliciting videos (about death/illness, four to five minutes long) under four conditions—no-regulation (no regulation instructions), attentional (...)

Opposite effects of emotion and event segmentation on temporal order memory and object-context binding.Monika Riegel, Daniel Granja, Tarek Amer, Patrik Vuilleumier & Ulrike Rimmele - 2025 - Cognition and Emotion 39 (1):117-135.
Our daily lives unfold continuously, yet our memories are organised into distinct events, situated in a specific context of space and time, and chunked when this context changes (at event boundaries). Previous research showed that this process, termed event segmentation, enhances object-context binding but impairs temporal order memory. Physiologically, peaks in pupil dilation index event segmentation, similar to emotion-induced bursts of autonomic arousal. Emotional arousal also modulates object-context binding and temporal order memory. Yet, these two critical factors have not been (...)

This paper explores the level of corporate social responsibility contributions disclosed by central public sector enterprises in India. This paper analyses the nature and quality of CSR disclosures made by CPSEs listed in India following the issue of CSR guidelines by the Department of Public Enterprises for CPSEs in March 2010. The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of CSR guidelines on the reporting practices of the CPSEs. A content analysis of annual reports across seven themes shows (...)

The Double Path of Expansive Learning in Complex Socio-Technical Change Processes.Monika Hackel & Michael Klebl - 2014 - Outlines. Critical Practice Studies 15 (1):04-27.
The purpose of this article is to describe how expansive learning in organisations can become a resource for learning in a wider community of practice (CoP). The “developmental work research” approach (DWR) based on cultural historical activity theory (CHAT) is beneficial for analysing and interpreting the requirements in a field of action. Engeström’s specific form of “action research” focuses on expansive learning in activity systems. However, complex socio-technical change processes cannot be initiated and managed by the local community of practise (...)

Demokratsko školsko vođenje: analiza dosadašnjih istraživanja i otvorena pitanja.Monika Pažur & Vesna Kovač - 2019 - Metodicki Ogledi 26 (1):33-60.
The development of the modern democratic society depends upon the successful integration of main democratic values in all its spheres, including education. Schools are faced with these challenges as well. The main role in the process of school change is given to the school principal, who is the leader of every innovation in school. One out of many types of school leadership is called democratic school leadership. One of the goals of such leadership is the development of school culture that (...)

Wgląd, nieświadomość i podmiotowość. Kilka uwag do problemu genezy wglądu w klasycznych koncepcjach wglądu.Monika Walczak - 2024 - Roczniki Filozoficzne 72 (2):259-276.
W artykule dyskutowana jest problematyka genezy wglądu z odniesieniem do klasycznych koncepcji wglądu w psychologii postaci i nawiązującej do niej filozoficznej koncepcji wglądu Bernarda J.F. Lonergana.

The article has been dedicated to profile of the press texts’ specific group called fails divers. According to the author they may be considered as an example of linking information to an entertainment. Owing to them we obtain a piece of information that is not as essential as incredible, the reading provides us firstly with an entertainment. Because of this it may be improper to consider fails divers as a specific variety of a press note. However, formal determinants do not (...)

Gute Begutachtung?: Ethische Perspektiven der Evaluation von Ethikkommissionen Zur Medizinischen Forschung Am Menschen.Monika Bobbert & Gregor Scherzinger (eds.) - 2019 - Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden.

Monika Komsta - 2019 - Roczniki Filozoficzne 67 (1):19-33.
Greek philosophy, especially Aristotelianism, because of the concept of God present in this thought, did not raise the issue of divine omniscience and divine knowledge of evil. The divine omnisciene seemed to be contrary to God’s perfect being. In the time of Themistius, whose thought I present in this paper, Neoplatonism and Christian Neoplatonism showed new possibilities of solving this problem. Themistius being aware of these new topics and including them in his own philosophy, still however represents ancient Aristotelianism with (...)

How to Write (Science) Better. Simplified English Principles in a Skill-Oriented ESP Course.Monika Śleszyńska - 2021 - Studies in Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric 66 (1):115-133.
Teaching writing to doctoral students or academics at a technical university is a challenging task. Because they need to publish their research findings in English to pursue academic careers, they are usually highly motivated and expect a lot of the class. Their language competences, however, very often lack enough proficiency and may contribute to manuscript rejection. The paper focuses on language issues based on the rules of controlled natural languages and guidelines of Plain English. It shows how employing these issues (...)

In the past two decades or so, a number of researchers from various fields within linguistics have turned their attention to interpersonal phenomena, such as the linguistic expression of speaker opinion or evaluation , or the encoding of subjectivity in language and its diachronic development . Many linguists have offered categorizations of evaluative meaning, based on authentic discourse data, but no connection has been made with cognitive approaches to appraisal processes. This paper offers a first meta-theoretical exploration of such issues. (...)

    Understanding Others in Social Interactions.Monika Dullstein - 2014 - Philosophical Topics 42 (1):303-319.
The Theory of Mind Debate has seen a recent shift of focus from social observation toward social interaction. Defenders of so-called second-person accounts claim that social interactions reveal an understanding of another person which is different in kind to merely knowing that the other has a particular mental state. The aim of this paper is to specify this new form of understanding. In the first part, I criticize attempts to describe it as the knowledge of how to react to the (...)
