The value of mass-digitised cultural heritage content in creative contexts.Chris Speed, Pip Thornton, Michael Smyth, Burkhard Schafer, Briana Pegado, Inge Panneels, Nicola Osborne, Susan Lechelt, Ingi Helgason, Chris Elsden, Steven Drost, Stephen Coleman & Melissa Terras - 2021 - Big Data and Society 8 (1).
How can digitised assets of Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums be reused to unlock new value? What are the implications of viewing large-scale cultural heritage data as an economic resource, to build new products and services upon? Drawing upon valuation studies, we reflect on both the theory and practicalities of using mass-digitised heritage content as an economic driver, stressing the need to consider the complexity of commercial-based outcomes within the context of cultural and creative industries. However, we also problematise the (...)

Perceptions of dishonesty among two-year college students: Academic versus business situations. [REVIEW]M. Lynnette Smyth & James R. Davis - 2004 - Journal of Business Ethics 51 (1):63-73.
This study statistically analyzes two-year college students' attitudes toward cheating via a survey containing academic and business situations that the students evaluated on a seven point scale from unethical to ethical. When both the general questions concerning attitudes about cheating and the opinions on the ethical statements are considered, the business students were generally more unethical in their behavior and attitudes than non-business majors. These results indicate a need for more ethical exposure in business courses to help students distinguish ethical (...)

Dual mechanisms of lymphocytemediated cytotoxicity serve to control and deliver the immune response.Mark J. Smyth - 1995 - Bioessays 17 (10):891-898.
Cytotoxic lymphocytes play a central role in immune inflammatory responses against tumour cells, viruses and cells transplanted or infected with intracellular bacteria. The pivotal importance of lymphocytes in each of these immune responses has justified our continued interest in their cytotoxic function. Recent studies of cytotoxic lymphocytes have involved the characterisation of recognition structures on cytotoxic lymphocytes and the definition of two mechanisms of cytotoxicity. In contrast to normal cell death, which occurs during embryonic development and the formation and death (...)

The constructive maximal point space and partial metrizability.Michael B. Smyth - 2006 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 137 (1-3):360-379.
We argue that constructive maximality [P. Martin-Löf, Notes on Constructive Mathematics, Almqvist and Wicksell, Stockholm, 1970] can with advantage be employed in the study of maximal point spaces, and related questions in quantitative domain theory. The main result concerns partial metrizability of ω-continuous domains.
