Telling, Hearing, and Believing: A Critical Analysis of Narrative Bioethics.K. M. Saulnier - 2020 - Journal of Bioethical Inquiry 17 (2):297-308.
Narrative ethics taps into an inherent human need to tell our own stories centred on our own moral values and to have those stories heard and acknowledged. However, not everyone’s words are afforded equal power. The use of narrative ethics in bioethical decision-making is problematized by a disparity in whose stories are told, whose stories are heard, and whose stories are believed. Here, I conduct an analysis of narrative ethics through a critical theory lens to show how entrenched patterns of (...)

The Cambridge Handbook of Motivation and Learning.K. Ann Renninger & Suzanne E. Hidi - 2019 - Cambridge University Press.
Written by leading researchers in educational and social psychology, learning science, and neuroscience, this edited volume is suitable for a wide-academic readership. It gives definitions of key terms related to motivation and learning alongside developed explanations of significant findings in the field. It also presents cohesive descriptions concerning how motivation relates to learning, and produces a novel and insightful combination of issues and findings from studies of motivation and/or learning across the authors' collective range of scientific fields. The authors provide (...)

What is interest and how has it been conceptualized and studied? -- What explains the power of interest? : Why are students who have an interest for content more likely to continue to reengage and develop more conceptual sophistication? -- What is known about assessing existing interest? How do new interests develop? How can the phase of a person's interest be identified and measured? -- What is the relation between the development of interest and other motivational variables? -- Is it (...)

Two extensions of the structurally free logic LC.K. Bimbó & J. Dunn - 1998 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 6 (3):403-424.
The paper considers certain extensions of the system LC introduced in Dunn & Meyer 1997. LC is a structurally free system , but it has combinators as formulas in the place of structural rules. We consider two ways to extend LC with conjunction and disjunction depending on whether they distribute over each other or not. We prove the elimination theorem for the systems. At the end of the paper we give a Routley-Meyer style semantics for the distributive extension, including some (...)

The relation between science and theology: The case for complementarity revisited.K. Helmut Reich - 1990 - Zygon 25 (4):369-390.
. Donald MacKay has suggested that the logical concept of complementarity is needed to relate scientific and theological thinking. According to Ian Barbour, this concept should only be used within, not between, disciplines. This article therefore attempts to clarify that contrast from the standpoint of cognitive process. Thinking in terms of complementarity is explicated within a structuralist‐genetic, interactive‐constructivist, developmental theory of the neo‐ and post‐Piagetian kind, and its role in religious development is indicated. Adolescents'complementary views on Creation and on the (...)

Ein Wohlordnungsbeweis für das OrdinalzahlensystemT(J).K. Schütte - 1988 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 27 (1):5-20.
A recursive notation system of a strong segment of ordinals was developped by Jäger [3]. An unessential modified versionT(J) of this notation system was described in [4]. In the following, the well-ordering ofT(J) is proved in a formal system of second order arithmetic with the axiom schema ofΠ 2 1 -comprehension. It follows, that the proof theoretical ordinal ofΠ 2 1 -analysis is greater than the order type ofT(J).

Psychology of Religion and Neurobiology: Which Relationship?K. Helmut Reich - 2004 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 26 (1):117-134.
Given that psychologists of religion as a scientific community so far have shown little interest in neurobiology, and neurobiology may become important for our field in the not too distant future, an attempt is made to present and discuss neurobiology and its conceivable interactions with psychology of religion. The long-standing debate about the philosophical grounding of the mind-body problem is recalled, as well as the scope of neurobiology and its research methods. Psychology of religion may assist neurobiology by providing research (...)

Open peer commentary on the article “Learning about Urban Sustainability with Digital Stories: Promoting Collaborative Creativity from a Constructionist Perspective” by Maria Daskolia, Chronis Kynigos & Katerina Makri. Upshot: Daskolia, Kynigos and Makri’s article offers us a view into potential applications of constructionist learning theory to help students conceive of and collaborate on solutions to today’s complex problems. This work in many ways parallels the efforts of those investigating systems thinking and highlights the importance of digital production in that process. (...)

Ist die klassische Logik im leeren Individuenbereich gültig?K. Berka - 1969 - Man and World 2 (2):263-268.
Is classical logic valid in empty domains? The aim of the paper is to show that for empty domains of individuals the thesis concerning the validity of classical logic cannot be consistently maintained. Taking the empty domain as an extension of a self-inconsistent property and making a distinction between logical and factual existence, it can be shown that in empty domains the assumption of the truth (resp.L-truth) of a universal statement leads to a paradox analogous to those of self-reflexivity.
