This book is the culmination of the COST Action CA15212 Citizen Science to Promote Creativity, Scientific Literacy, and Innovation throughout Europe. It represents the final stage of a shared journey taken over the last 4 years. During this relatively short period, our citizen science practices and perspectives have rapidly evolved. In this chapter we discuss what we have learnt about the recent past of citizen science and what we expect and hope for the future.

Contemporary research in the field of Foucauldian studies on education have pointed to a growing imbrication between educational practises and neoliberal ideas. The problematization of such scenario would lead to two premises, grounded on a general hypothesis for the analysis of the educational present. The first premise: nowadays, the educational or, to be more precise, educationalizing practises—since they would not deal only with the schooling effort, but also with the diffusion of a great number of pedagogical initiatives of non-formal character—consists (...) in an efficient rationality of governing of oneself and others. The second premise is that such educationalizing movement consists not only in the expression but also in the typical modus operandi of the current governmentalization processes, which aim at a large-scale administration of the multiplicity of populations now in terms of a lifelong educatibility for the citizens. These two premises sustain the hypothesis that the present educational practises do not restrict themselves to the mere condition of reiterative apparatus of imperatives extrinsic to them, but have in fact cemented themselves as a generative locus of the veridiction/subjectivization games capable of overrunning the whole social space. O objetivo deste texto é examinar aspectos da filosofia de Merleau-Ponty considerando-a distante tanto de um subjetivismo fenomenológico, quanto de um objetivismo estruturalista, posições descritas por Michel Foucault como determinantes do debate filosófico francês dos anos 1950. Um caminho possível para descrever sua posição é investigar a maneira como trabalha o tema da linguagem, tanto a partir de sua apropriação da linguística de Saussure, quanto em interlocução com as reflexões de Bergson - ponto pouco explorado entre os intérpretes. Também em (...) relação a Bergson, discutirei a concepção de temporalidade presente em Merleau-Ponty, distanciando-a, ao mesmo tempo, da maneira como Sartre a compreende. Ao final desse trajeto, penso que se tornará mais clara a proposta merleau-pontyana de uma fenomenologia alargada e dialógica. (shrink)

Conceptual congruency effects are biases induced by an irrelevant conceptual dimension of a task (e.g., location in vertical space) on the processing of another, relevant dimension (e.g., judging words’ emotional evaluation). Such effects are a central empirical pillar for recent views about how the mind/brain represents concepts. In the present paper, we show how attentional cueing (both exogenous and endogenous) to each conceptual dimension succeeds in modifying both the manifestation and the symmetry of the effect. En este artículo intentaré defender la perspectiva estatista contra una serie de críticas recientemente formuladas por Cristina Lafont en Isegoría y en otras importantes revistas especializadas. En particular, trataré de probar que, contrariamente a lo que Lafont (...) argumenta, esta perspectiva captura adecuadamente la razón de ser de la práctica contemporánea de los derechos humanos y dispone de recursos para resguardar los intereses de los seres humanos de las nuevas amenazas surgidas en un mundo globalizado. Este artículo evalúa los constituyentes primordiales de esta obra en cuanto a lo que es: una propuesta de lenguaje narrativo. Se demuestra que su calidad se apoya en los méritos expresivos elaborados para su enunciación y, por ello, se concentra en la identificación textual de las formas artísticas que le confieren categoría estética. Se registran los resultados del proceso receptivo de un enunciatario que ingresa en sus codificaciones y que interpreta este proceso. Se hace presente que esta actividad se realiza (...) en medio de un contexto comunicacional contemporáneo que tiene como rasgos distintivos una velocidad progresiva y una consiguiente desprolijidad analítica. This article evaluates the main constituents of the work in relation to what it is: a proposal of narrative language. It is demonstrated that its quality is supported by the expressive merits elaborated for its enunciation and, due to this, it concentrates on the textual identification of the artistic forms which give it an aesthetics category. We record the results of the receptive process of an enunciator that enters in its codes and interprets this process. It must be pointed out that this activity is developed within a contemporary communicational context which has as distinctive features a progressive speed and as a consequence an inaccurate analysis. This article provides a critical reading of the ‘Parecer CNE-CES 60, de 2014’, from the Ministry of education, Brazil, which defines the curriculum guidelines for courses of Baccalaureate in Theology. In its first section it discusses the theoretical background of the ‘Parecer’, questioning its illuminist orientation, as well as its pedagogical theory focused on contents and not on the students activities. It aims to show that are two opposed educational paradigms in the ‘Parecer’, the illuminist and the constructivist, although the (...) illuminist is the dominant one. It also question the view of the theologian present in the ‘Parecer’, marked by significant absences from the professional field of religious work. In the second section, the article presents a sample of particular interpretation of the ‘Parecer’, indicating the guidelines of a curriculum based on the constructivist paradigm. It dedicates special attention to the occult dimension of the curriculum and to an articulation of the student’s activities in relationship to the disciplines of the course. (shrink)

The literature has recognised the fundamental role of teaching business ethics to students earning business administration degrees, but it is hard to find a methodology for teaching this topic successfully. We propose a new management tool—evidence-based administration—for the study of business ethics. The method developed on the basis of this management tool provides a practical vision to the students, motivates them, and favours the development of multiple facets of their education.

Este trabajo compara las metáforas asociadas con la identidad y la subjetividad mestiza en dos ensayos de la literatura latinoamericana: El laberinto de la soledad (1950) de Octavio Paz y Guatemala, las líneas de su mano (1955) de Luis Cardoza y Aragón. Las nociones de identidad y subjetividad se leen como procesos envolventes y chispeantes, donde el malestar y la contradicción son inherentes al proceso afirmativo de las experiencias mexicana y guatemalteca. Se concluye que los textos expresan en su faceta (...) más poética una vivencia de la identidad y subjetividad mestiza semejante a la subjetividad ch’ixi, planteada por la socióloga boliviana Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui como un espacio de fricción y malestar que no permite la pacificación de la unidad, pero se abre la posibilidad de nuevos y plurales reconocimientos. Responses to the COVID-19 pandemic globally disrupted lives and contributed to the exacerbation of pre-existing inequalities. Women in research were also affected. The prominent role that women played in professional and personal care duties had a detrimental effect on their research outputs, potentially hindering their career progression. Moreover, the challenges faced by women academics during the pandemic, including job loss, increased mental health issues, and the intersection of gender with other socio-demographic traits exacerbated existing gender disparities within academia. By systematically (...) scoping the qualitative literature on the experiences of women researchers during the pandemic, this study sought to explore how women experienced and reacted to the challenges generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. A qualitative meta synthesis of the included studies revealed three themes: gendered professional expectations, colliding identities and coping strategies. These themes show how gendered roles such as teaching and professional care work, associated with the hierarchical and gendered division of tasks both at home and in the workplace, made women feel unsupported and alienated as relevant agents in the academic context. The study reveals the importance of pastoral care, teaching and service work as the essential backbone of the academic infrastructure, especially in times of crises. It also exposes how productivity-focused researcher assessment criteria, rewarding mainly individual results and unrewarding of care and service work, can be viewed as perpetuating structural inequalities based on gender, parenting situations, contractual situations and background. In conclusion, this study exposes the need to proactively address the gendered practices and implicit biases which reproduce inequalities within academia and highlights how paying attention to the experiences and needs of women researchers is essential for improving the resilience and crises preparedness of academic the system. This paper explores the ethical dilemma of conflicting loyalties found in whistleblowing. Central to this dilemma is the internal/external disclosure dichotomy; disclosure of organisational wrongdoing to an external recipient is seen as disloyal, whilst disclosure to an internal recipient is seen as loyal. Understanding how the organisation and society have dealt with these problems over the last 30 years is undertaken through an analysis of Vandekerckhove’s project, which seeks to place the normative legitimisations of whistleblowing legislation and organisational whistleblowing policies (...) within a globalisation semantic able to contain this conflict between society and the organisation. This project fails, it is argued, because of Vandekerckhove’s particular understanding of the organisation as an autopoietic system, i.e. an operationally closed system. A case is made to understand organisations as complex systems, i.e. operationally open systems. Critical Complexity theory sees the identities of systems and components as coterminous. In the context of the organisation, this means that the identities of the corporation and its corporate members arise and die together. The whistleblower’s disclosure reconfigures the organisation by forcing the organisation to open up and make its boundaries flexible, making the designation ‘internal’ or ‘external’ to the organisation, and, therefore, who qualifies as a recipient of a disclosure of wrongdoing, flexible. The organisation is restrained from retailing against the whistleblower, because its identities are coterminous. Furthermore, as the disclosure cannot be categorically defined as either internal or external, the question of whether an external disclosure can qualify as an act of organisational loyalty becomes moot.
