    Attending Together in Digital Environments.Bryan Chambliss - 2024 - Topoi 43 (2):311-322.
Discussions of joint attention often focus on examples that involve multiple interacting thinkers who align their attention by triangulating upon an object (e.g., by pointing, gaze following, orienting, etc.). However, not all forms of attending together seem to involve this kind of interpersonal coordination. When an audience attends to a talk, they do not do so by engaging in the perspective-driven alignment of attention that is characteristic of joint attention. Nor do students learning in a digital environment (e.g., on Zoom) (...)

John Desey's Idea of Imagination in Philosophy and Education.J. J. Chambliss - 1991 - Journal of Aesthetic Education 25 (4):43-49.
The aim is to show that, for Dewey, "imagination" is not a rare activity of the human spirit. Rather, it is common to all human beings as a vehicle of learning, by which possibilities are determined, and attempts are made to actualize them in experience. Imagination does not make up things "unreal", but is the power of realizing what is not present. Children's images tend to express themselves in action, and all human beings may bring to life an imageof self (...)

Imagination and reason in Plato, Aristotle, Vico, Rousseau, and Keats.J. J. Chambliss - 1974 - The Hague,: M. Nijhoff.
The present essay grew out of an inte:rest in exploring the relationship be tween "imagination" and "reason" in the history of naturalistic thinking. The essay tries to show something of the spirit of naturalism coming to terms with the place of imagination and reason in knowing, making, and doing as activities of human experience. This spirit is discussed by taking as its point of departure the thinking of five writers: Plato, Aristotle, Giam battista Vieo, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and John Keats. Plato (...)

The analysis of experience: John Dewey and Elsie Ripley Clapp on desire and thinking, 1911. [REVIEW]J. J. Chambliss - 1991 - Studies in Philosophy and Education 11 (2):167-186.
Unpublished correspondence with Elsie Ripley Clapp, along with extensive notes for a 1911 course, ‘The Analysis of Experience’, provide the context for a consideration of John Dewey's discussion of the relation between desire and thinking. Dewey's philosophic point of view is portrayed as it was developing in his own mind. The “unity of thought and desire”, the necessity of making objects of inquiry, the identification of thinking and acting, are themes in these materials which would appear in their published form (...)
