Fake news detection involves predicting the likelihood that a particular news article is intentionally deceptive. Arabic FND started to receive more attention in the last decade, and many detection approaches demonstrated some ability to detect fake news on multiple datasets. However, most existing approaches do not consider recent advances in natural language processing, i.e., the use of neural networks and transformers. This paper presents a comprehensive comparative study of neural network and transformer-based language models used for Arabic FND. We examine (...) the use of neural networks and transformer-based language models for Arabic FND and show their performance compared to each other. We also conduct an extensive analysis of the possible reasons for the difference in performance results obtained by different approaches. The results demonstrate that transformer-based models outperform the neural network-based solutions, which led to an increase in the F1 score from 0.83 to 0.95, and it boosted the accuracy by 16% compared to the best in neural network-based solutions. Finally, we highlight the main gaps in Arabic FND research and suggest future research directions. (shrink)

The leadership styles have been discussed in labor marketing and production before academia. Notably, certain types have been found to have a detrimental impact on both organizational commitment and service quality, particularly in the healthcare industry. Aim: To investigates the leadership practices of nursing managers in hospitals and their impact on staff commitment, seeking to understand how these leaders' styles shape organizational commitment. Subjects and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study among two private teaching hospitals. included 507 nurses aged (22-45), had at (...) least 1 year of work experience. Results: In a study of two hospitals, it was found that most managers exhibited both transformational and transactional leadership styles from the nurses' perspective. However, transformational leadership emerged as the dominant style, with 80.27% of managers displaying this approach. Despite this, the majority of nurses reported a strong commitment to their organization. Conclusion: A comparative analysis revealed that transformational leadership style was found to be more prevalent and effective in two hospitals compared to transactional leadership style. Furthermore, both leadership styles were found to have a statistically significant positive correlation with organizational commitment, indicating a strong link between these styles and employee engagement and loyalty. Recent excavations and technical analyses of medieval ceramics from North Africa, or Ifrīqiya, from the eighth and tenth centuries have shown that these objects form a distinct corpus, in contrast to earlier scholarship that discussed Ifrīqiyan material in relation to ceramics from Eastern Islamic lands. In this study, these objects are examined in an art historical context, which situates them within artistic production not only from North Africa, but also from Egypt, West Africa, and al-Andalus. It demonstrates the connections that (...) emerged as a result of the relationships – both congruous and contentious – among the various political polities ruling these regions. This investigation of medieval ceramics from North Africa situates this corpus within the visual and material cultures of the African continent and the Mediterranean world, and contextualizes the transregional dimension of North African visual and material culture. Доводиться, що специфіка творів християнського сакрального мистецтва полягає у посилені, в межах його художнього образу, релігійного контексту, який домінує над естетичним аспектом. Зазначається, що забезпеченню ефекту екстраполяції релігійних установок сприяють естетичні аспекти творів сакрального мистецтва, які пов’язані з ознаками краси та прекрасного (а саме гармонії, міри, пропорції, симетрії, консонансу), а також використання алегоричності, емоційної насиченості, системності та комплексності. В статті визначається суть релігійного резонансу, який розуміється як психічний стан людини, котрий одночасно є результатом та умовою прийняття сакрального смислу символічного художнього образу християнського мистецтва. Досягається це завдяки забезпеченню синхронізації психічних механізмів інтеріоризації та екстраполяції. Доводиться, що таке базове призначення релігійного резонансу позиціонується як головна функція, що реалізовується у процесі спрямування віруючої людини на добровільну зміну власної поведінки відповідно до вимог християнства. Це й сприяє забезпеченню коеволюційних процесів.

This article examines the nature and reproduction of ‘institutional idiocy’, seen as a form of collective cognitive incapacity generated by cultural conditions. It shows idiocy to be active in numerous paths, wearing different clothes and taking dissimilar forms, spreading to the extent that it dominates communities. An empirically driven framework is established for idiocy-dominated communities – communities with access to futile education and fruitless technology. It demonstrates how idiocy-dominated communities disguise and protect their shared idiocy and handle non-idiotic minorities. It (...) explains that idiocy-intense communities are not necessarily chaotic and arbitrarily organised, entailing ‘formulas of life’, ‘identity politics’ and ‘schools of thought’. It describes that a whole community can thoroughly adapt to life without critical thinking, living in an illusion. Whereas previous works have scrutinised individual idiocy, this research goes beyond this to inspect institutional idiocy by presenting idiocy as a system (and ‘ideology’) that constitutes the foundation of groups. While such notions as technocracy and epistocracy detail the domination of cognitive maturity, this article goes in another direction by recording the domination of cognitive immaturity (idiocracy). It avoids thinking about idiocy binarily (idiocy versus intelligence), viewing it as a question of not intellect but behaviour, culture and ‘being-with’. (shrink)

The paper explores the role and meaning of maṣlaḥa and its possible appropriation in the field of Islamic legal and economic thought, as laid down by various medieval and contemporary Muslim scholars. Questions that are pertinent to the research are the following: how has maṣlaḥa been incorporated in legal reasoning and what kind of meaning does it convey; what type of economic reading does it presuppose; do ethics, law, and scriptural sources play equally important role as reference in developing the (...) concept in economic terms, are some of the questions that this paper will try to provide answer to. Further, as there is a tendency to believe that Islamic economic thought cannot be equated only with legal and juridical underpinnings, it is pertinent to pose a question if economic ideas have flourished independently from its legal framework. Maṣlaḥa in its capacity has always remained part and parcel of Islamic legal theory, and has been rarely addressed within the frame of economic thought; therefore a new reading is required to deal with the position of economic teachings within Islamic tradition. The paper consists of three sections, whereby the contributions made by Muslim medieval scholars on Islamic economics will be presented. The first chapter provides a historical overview of Islamic law and the concept of maṣlaḥa in relation to the field of Islamic economics, including Abu Hamid al-Ghazali’s monumental Iḥya ‘ulūm al dīn, which presents a milestone in converging Sufi ethical teachings of Islam in accordance with the legal methodology of Islamic law. The second part aims to discern and examine the economic jurisprudence and economic theory in Islam as it is understood by some of the mainstream theoreticians of Islamic studies, advocating the view that Islamic economics is inextricably related to the gist of Islamic legal reasoning. In this section the ideas of Muhammad Baqr al-Sadr will be presented as he proposes a new reading of Islamic economics as a doctrine and not a science. The third part questions Islamic legal establishment and its normativity, the claim that legal norms have always been part of the Islamic economic reasoning. This claim rests upon the idea that Islamic legal patterns were also socially constructed, including some aspects of Islamic economic reasoning. Concluding remarks will draw upon the idea that despite the fact that Islamic legal and economic literature are based upon the religious scriptures of Islam, the Qur’an and Tradition, it is more appropriate to claim that they rest upon the ethical cosmology that surpasses purely theological concerns.
