Die moderne Philosophie hat seit Descartes und Kant und vollends seit dem Ausgang des 19. Jahrhunderts ihre Grundlegung in der Subjekttheorie gesucht. Unter Verdrängung von Metaphysik und Ontologie hat bevorzugt die Anthropologie den Platz der "ersten Philosophie" eingenommen. Hans Heinz Holz möchte demgegenüber die Anthropologie in den Rahmen einer allgemeinen Ontologie und Naturphilosophie zurückführen. Er greift dabei Ansätze auf, die sich aus dem Werk Helmuth Plessners ergeben, und die er im Sinne einer Dialektik der Natur weiterentwickelt.

Habermas' discourse theory stresses the autonomy of public deliberation transcending the spontaneous emergence of private networks of legal relationships between individuals. Only the public discourse which is detached from the inertia of overlapping practical forms of coordination can refer to the ideally designed social work of legitimated interpersonal relationships. The democratic constitution is regarded as a legal institutionalization of the priority of the public forum of discourse. This thought-provoking book discusses the concept of progress in economics and investigates whether any advance has been made in its different spheres of research. The authors look back at the history, successes and failures of their respective fields and thoroughly examine the notion of progress from an epistemological and methodological perspective. The idea of progress is particularly significant as the authors regard it as an essentially contested concept which can be defined in many ways – theoretically or empirically; locally or (...) globally; or as encouraging or impeding the existence of other research traditions. ‘Progress’ is a dazzling concept used to describe developments in all areas of life. Progress is of particular interest in the sciences, where it manifests itself in innovations in the natural sciences and technology, for example. Whether one trusts in progress and looks hopefully into the future or longs for a golden past and distrusts progress depends on the observer. On the occasion of the 100th birthday of the physical chemist Kurt Schwabe the article presents an overview about Schwabe’s activities as president of the Saxon Academy of Science from 1965 to 1980. Main topics of this time which has to be solved by Schwabe were to ensure the further existence of the academy and to reach an agreement about the principles of cooperation between the Saxon Academy of Science and the Berlin Academy of Science as an agreement of equals.

Die in diesem Sammelband "Anfänge bei Hegel" vereinigten Beiträge gehen zum größeren Teil auf Vorträge zurück, die auf dem gleichnamigen Symposion gehalten wurden, das wir zum 70. Geburtstag von Helmut Schneider am 2. Juli 2008 an der Universität Kassel durchführten. Darüber hinaus haben wir zur Abrundung der Thematik noch weitere Artikel von Freunden eingeholt, sodass nun ein in sich gerundetes Studienbuch zu Hegel sowie zeitlich und kritisch über ihn hinaus entstanden ist.
