Ernesto Laclau: post-marxism, populism, and critique.Ernesto Laclau - 2014 - New York: Routledge. Edited by David R. Howarth.
Ernesto Laclau has blazed a unique trail in political theory and philosophy since the early 1970s. In so doing, he has articulated a range of philosophical and theoretical currents into a coherent alternative to mainstream models and practices of conducting social and political science.

Understanding Wellbeing Among College Music Students and Amateur Musicians in Western Switzerland.Roberta Antonini Philippe, Céline Kosirnik, Noémi Vuichoud, Aaron Williamon & Fabienne Crettaz von Roten - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10.
Musical performance requires the ability to master a complex integration of highly specialized motor, cognitive and perceptual skills developed over years of practice. It often means also being able to deal with a large amount of pressure within dynamic environments. Consequently, many musicians suffer from health-related problems and have a large number of physical and psychological complaints. Research has shown that making music can present challenges for musicians’ wellbeing. Therefore, our research aims to evaluate and analyze the wellbeing of two (...)

  6. Value Realism and the Internalism/Externalism Debate.Ernesto V. Garcia - 2004 - Philosophical Studies 117 (1-2):231-258.
In this paper, I propose a new framework for the general internalism/externalism debate about reasons. My aim is to defend a novel account of internalism that at least allows for the possibility of a more "realist" conception of reasons- thus avoiding simply begging the question (as Williams himself seems to do) against many recent externalist thinkers like Hampton, Scanlon, McDowell, and Parfit - while still somehow retaining a deep connection between reasons to act and an agent's motivations. What is crucial (...)

Moderno principe e cesarismo nella filosofia politica di Gramsci.Francesca Antonini - 2021 - Rivista Italiana di Filosofia Politica 1:155-173.
The essay aims to analyse the relationship between ‘Caesarism’ and ‘modern prince’ in the Prison Notebooks. Capitalising on a historical-philological investigation of Gramsci’s prison writings, I intend to show how these two categories share a common political-conceptual background. Furthermore, the investigation of this theoretical junction illuminates the political reflection of Gramsci as a whole, by highlighting its being always in progress.

Rethinking Judgment and Opinion as Political Speech in Hannah Arendt’s Political Thought.David R. Antonini - 2020 - The Pluralist 15 (2):25-44.
Within the current global political context in Western democracies, one might argue that engaging in public discourse about matters of shared concern is not an inviting opportunity for citizens. Generally speaking, participation in public discourse is not something we seek out unless, perhaps, from behind the privacy of our electronic devices. What this might indicate, following an Arendtian insight, is that we currently have no sense of a shared world together. In other words, we have become alienated from that which (...)

Public Space and Political Experience: An Arendtian Interpretation.David Antonini - 2021 - Lanham, Maryland: Lexington Books.
Citizens in the contemporary world have become alienated from politics because they conceive of it as an instrumental activity. David Antonini argues that Hannah Arendt's thought can help us recover meaningful political experience: a distinct experience of politics in which citizens can speak and act together.

This essay argues for a concept of political identity that is fundamentally relational in nature contra more liberal accounts of identity that are atomistic. I consider John Rawls’ account of political identity in his Political Liberalism and provide a response stemming from Hannah Arendt’s account of political identity grounded in the existential condition of politics: human plurality. Using her concept of human plurality, I argue that political identity ought to be conceived as relationally individuated as opposed to atomistically so, meaning (...)

Hegemony and Socialist Strategy: Towards a Radical Democratic Politics.Ernesto Laclau (ed.) - 1985 - Verso.
In this hugely influential book, Laclau and Mouffe examine the workings of hegemony and contemporary social struggles, and their significance for democratic theory. With the emergence of new social and political identities, and the frequent attacks on Left theory for its essentialist underpinnings, Hegemony and Socialist Strategy remains as relevant as ever, positing a much-needed antidote against ‘Third Way’ attempts to overcome the antagonism between Left and Right.

    Temporal ontology: tenselessness and quantification.Ernesto Graziani & Francesco Orilia - 2019 - Synthese 198 (3):2821-2847.
Temporal ontology is concerned with the ontological status of the past, the present and the future, with presentism and eternalism as main contenders since the second half of the last century. In recent years several philosophers have argued that the presentism/eternalism dispute is not substantial. They have embraced, one may say, deflationism. Denying or downplaying the meaningfulness of tenseless language and wielding the so-called triviality objection have been their main argumentative tools. Other philosophers have opposed this trend, thereby holding fast (...)

Significatio and suppositio are central notions in Ockham's semantics; the former is propriety of isolated terms, the later, of terms in propositional contexts. Understanding the relation between both notions is important to determine the atomistic or propositonal character of Ockham's semantics. The definition of each term refers to the other, not allowing any priority of one of them. Both terms exceed one another, covering cases which are outside the scope the other. We identify, through the analysis of this excess the (...)

Increasing global competition has intensified the use of informal sector workforce worldwide. This phenomenon is true with regard to India, where 92% of the workers hold precarious jobs. Our study examines the dynamics of workplace dignity in the context of Indian security guards deployed as contract labour by private suppliers, recognising that security guards’ jobs were marked by easy access, low status, disrespect and precariousness. The experiences of guards serving bank ATMs were compared with those working in large reputed organisations. (...)

Is there any interesting sense in which we can speak of an act as 'evil', in contrast to simply "morally bad' or "immoral"? In ordinary language, we typically judge actions as evil that somehow differ significantly, in terms of degree or intensity, from commonplace wrongdoing. If taken to an extreme, however, this view simply reduces the difference between evil and immoral acts to a mere quantitative analysis. At worst, it leads to a wholly trivial account of evil as just those (...)
