La polis y el polites: orígenes y características de la categoría de ciudadanía | The Polis and the Polites: origins and characteristics of the citizenship category.

  9. Neurotechnologies for Human Cognitive Augmentation: Current State of the Art and Future Prospects.Caterina Cinel, Davide Valeriani & Riccardo Poli - 2019 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 13:430907.
Recent advances in neuroscience have paved the way to innovative applications that cognitively augment and enhance humans in a variety of contexts. This paper aims at providing a snapshot of the current state of the art and a motivated forecast of the most likely developments in the next two decades. Firstly, we survey the main neuroscience technologies for both observing and influencing brain activity, which are necessary ingredients for human cognitive augmentation. We also compare and contrast such technologies, as their (...)

    The Complexity of Anticipation.Roberto Poli - 2009 - Balkan Journal of Philosophy 1 (1):19-29.
An anticipatory system is a system with the capacity to anticipate its own evolution. This paper generalizes the idea of anticipatory systems from its original biological setting to the fields of cognitive and social sciences, and it shows that anticipatory systems are a generalization of autopoietic systems. Anticipatory systems, almost by definition, escape the possibilities of rote iteration. This argument shows that the complexity of an anticipatory system extends well beyond mainstream complexity theory. For this reason, the idea of systems (...)

    Formal aspects of reduplication.Roberto Poli - 1994 - Logic and Logical Philosophy 2 (5):87-102.
Aristotle’s presentation of ontology advanced at the beginning of the fourth book of Metaphysics is universally known: “there is a science which studies being qua being...”. Needless to say, this is a familiar sentence: unfortunately, it is also quite an odd one. Why Aristotle does not simply say that ontology is the theory of being? Is there any difference between ‘theory of being’ and ‘theory of being qua being’? In brief, the problem is to decide whether the two expressions ‘the (...)

Anticipation, Agency and Complexity.Roberto Poli & Marco Valerio (eds.) - 2019 - Cham: Springer Verlag.
This volume presents a selection of the Proceedings of the Workshop on Anticipation, Agency and Complexity held in Trento on April 2017. The contributions contained in the book brilliantly revolve around three core concepts: agency, complexity and anticipation, giving precious insights to further define the discipline of anticipation. In a world that moves increasingly fast, constantly on the verge of disruptive events, more and more scholars and practitioners in any field feel in need of new approaches to make sense of (...)

  22. Handbook of Anticipation: Theoretical and Applied Aspects of the Use of Future in Decision Making.Roberto Poli (ed.) - 2019 - Springer Verlag.
This Handbook presents the state of the art overview of current research on anticipation studies. It develops anticipation from both the theoretical and applied points of view. Via this comprehensive overview of the research on anticipation, this Handbook makes clear that anticipation is a serious topic of research that can and should be connected to Futures Studies research, perspectives and orientation. The Handbook uses the anticipatory viewpoint as a unifying framework able both to stop the progressive fragmentation of the human (...)

Conceptual and Ethical Issues in the Prodromal Phase of Psychosis.Matthew Broome, Paolo Fusar-Poli & Philippe Wuyts - 2013 - In K. W. M. Fulford, Martin Davies, Richard Gipps, George Graham, John Sadler, Giovanni Stanghellini & Tim Thornton (eds.), The Oxford handbook of philosophy and psychiatry. Oxford: Oxford University Press.
Our focus in this chapter is to address some of the philosophical issues that arise in the scientific and clinical study of the prodromal phase of psychosis. We discuss issues from both metaphysics and philosophy of science as we all as those related to phenomenological approaches and clinical ethics. A clear challenge arises in considering how models of a continuum of psychosis and of schizophrenia as a neurodevelopmental disorder can be reconciled with a scientific understanding of the prodrome as a (...)

In Itinere: European Cities and the Birth of Modern Scientific Philosophy.Roberto Poli - 1997 - Rodopi.
The volume describes a virtual tour of the cities in which Franz Brentano and his pupils worked and lived, with a reconstruction of the intellectual climate of their time. After the Introduction, the intellectual life of Wurzburg, Munich, Vienna, Prag, Lvov, Warsaw, Cambridge, Florence and Milan is presented and analyzed. The papers collected in this volume propose several answers to the following question: to what do we refer when we speak of Central European philosophy?. Interpretations of Central European philosophy have (...)

Notre analyse muséologique montre en quoi le monde des musées participe activement au débat de société récurrent en France sur ce thème ; chaque exposition défendant sa vision de l’immigration par ses modalités d’écriture muséographique. This article compares two exhibitions on immigration in French museums: Repères [Landmarks] and D’Isère et du Maghreb : Mémoires d’immigrés [Memories of immigration – from the Isère and (...)

    Un glossario per Ugo Nespolo.Francesco Poli - 2015 - Rivista di Estetica:61-71.
What follows is a kind of short “glossary” that aims to address the main issues that the viewer can find standing in front of the complex and varied creative production of Ugo Nespolo. The sequence of these items, or reading notes, despite being fairly free and non-systematic (and only partly chronological) in all respects the internal logic of the Nespolo’s research. A search that has developed and articulated over time in many directions but that has always maintained its extremely consistent (...)
