In this work, we study Hilbert-style proof systems for logics based on the data-aware language CoreDataXPath(↓) where the comparison relation between nodes is not necessarily an equivalence relation. We give a sound and complete axiomatization of the class of tree-like Kripke frames endowed with a general comparison relation between nodes. Modular extensions of this axiomatization are also discussed, including cases where the comparison relation is reflexive, symmetric, transitive and an equivalence. A notable highlight that we recover an axiomatization for CoreDataXPath(↓) (...) over any data-tree when the comparison is by ‘equal data’. Moreover, we prove that all these systems are decidable by leveraging the finite model property of their corresponding frame classes. (shrink)

This paper aims to pay tribute to Figal’s comprehensive and innovative analysis of the artwork and beauty, while challenging both his realist position on the immediacy of meaning and his monist stance that reduces sublimity to beauty. To enquire into the origin of aesthetic feelings and sense, and thus, to break the hermeneutic circle, we first trace the origin of this reduction to the reception of Burke’s concept of the sublime by Mendelssohn and Kant. We then recur to Husserl and (...) Dufrenne to trace the origin of the sense of the feeling of sublimity in the realm of affectivity or sensuousness. This genesis takes place in passive experience, where we identify an excess of sensuous sense over categorial meaning that is constitutive of the affective sense that our bodily sensations give to hyletic material. It is argued that this sensuous excess evokes a sublime experience in the phenomenological sense, involving an affective and disruptive bodily experience and an endless process of sense formation. Affective or sensuous sense is thus an event that irreversibly affects the bodily surface. To elucidate this phenomenon, we draw on the theoretical framework of Breton and Bataille, positing it as a form-transgressive ‘convulsive’ sublime, which we then illustrate in the architectural works of Tschumi and Eisenman. In short, we have retrieved the origin of aesthetic experience and redefined the feeling of the sublime as a phenomenological ‘convulsive’ sublimity. (shrink)

A subcategory of medical tourism, reproductive tourism has been the subject of much public and policy debate in recent years. Specific concerns include: the exploitation of individuals and communities, access to needed health care services, fair allocation of limited resources, and the quality and safety of services provided by private clinics. To date, the focus of attention has been on the thriving medical and reproductive tourism sectors in Asia and Eastern Europe; there has been much less consideration given to more (...) recent ‘players’ in Latin America, notably fertility clinics in Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. In this paper, we examine the context-specific ethical and policy implications of private Argentinean fertility clinics that market reproductive services via the internet. Whether or not one agrees that reproductive services should be made available as consumer goods, the fact is that they are provided as such by private clinics around the world. We argue that basic national regulatory mechanisms are required in countries such as Argentina that are marketing fertility services to local and international publics. Specifically, regular oversight of all fertility clinics is essential to ensure that consumer information is accurate and that marketed services are safe and effective. It is in the best interests of consumers, health professionals and policy makers that the reproductive tourism industry adopts safe and responsible medical practices. (shrink)

En la última década en la Argentina se implementaron una serie de políticas sociales denominadas socio-productivas, socio-laboral y socio-económicas con el objeto de mejorar la situación de desempleo o precariedad laboral de la población. Las mismas pueden considerarse un modo de compensación de los efectos de exclusión del régimen de producción y acumulación vigente. En este contexto en el año 2009 nace el Plan “Ingreso Social con Trabajo” desde el Ministerio de Desarrollo Social, que declara tener como objetivo generar puestos (...) de trabajo genuino, con igualdad de oportunidades, fundado en el trabajo organizado y comunitario, incentivando e impulsando la formación de organizaciones sociales de trabajadores, quienes tendrán a su cargo el desarrollo de las acciones. El presente artículo intentará analizar dichos objetivos a partir del relato de destinatarias del Plan, revisando tres conceptos claves: cooperativas, trabajo e inclusión. (shrink)

In 1994, the Argentine Inland Revenue service investigated a case of suspected tax evasion that became more newsworthy when it was discovered that $37 million bribes were paid by IBM Argentina, the subsidiary of Armonk, New York-based International Business Machines Corp. The bribes were paid to Argentine government officials to land a $250 million contract to modernize the state-owned Banco de la Nación Argentina, which was and still is the country’s largest bank. The IBM IN ARGENTINA series introduce the legal (...) and ethical dilemmas that managers face when the moral standards at the host country appear to be lower than at those at home and highlight the consequences that managers may suffer when they perform illegal/immoral activities on behalf of the firm. Positivism, the predominant philosophy of Latin America’s elites at the end of the nineteenth century, found its exemplary expression in Brazil’s castilhismo and Mexico’s porfiriato. Argentina, in contrast, seemed to have deviated from the norm of ‘enlightened dictatorships’. After the end of the Rosas tyranny in 1852, authoritarianism had been discredited. Early positivism, as embodied by Teacher-President Sarmiento, could barely be distinguished from liberalism and no single political philosophy was able to exert hegemony. However, the significance of ‘scientific politics’ should (...) not be downplayed. As this article argues, the merger, in the 1880s, of Comtean positivism and teacher training revolutionised education policies that aimed at erasing frontier backwardness and inserting future generations into an export-led economy, oligarchic polity, and homogenous national organism. Normal schools, especially Sarmiento’s Escuela de Parana´, acted as laboratories for the assimilation, merger, and contestation of European, North American, and autochthonous scientific, philosophical, and pedagogical traditions. Las vinculaciones con Indonesia se han caracterizado por el bajo perfil político y la inestabilidad en el plano comercial desde finales de los noventas hasta mediados de 2000. Sin embargo, desde 2008 en adelante, Indonesia se convirtió en el principal destino de las exportaciones argentinas en el SEA y comenzó a despertar un mayor interés en el plano político-diplomático. La visita del Canciller Timmerman y la implementación de otras iniciativas bilaterales se convirtieron en indicadores del emergente protagonismo de Indonesia en (...) la agenda argentina hacia el Este de Asia. Los lazos políticos y económicos se complementan con el surgimiento de iniciativas culturales que favorecen el mayor acercamiento entre ambos Estados. A su vez, la interacción en foros multilaterales –como FOCALAE- y la creación de dos grupos parlamentarios argentinos –de Amistad con ASEAN y de Amistad con Indonesia- se constituyeron en herramientas para fomentar el mutuo conocimiento. Dados los recientes desarrollos en las vinculaciones bilaterales y la consolidación de Indonesia como socio comercial de la Argentina, nos proponemos en este artículo realizar un abordaje de las relaciones entre ambos Estados desde las dimensiones económico-comercial, político-diplomática y cultural. This paper addresses the reception of Hegel’s philosophy in Argentina from an exploratory point of view. For this, it offers a preliminary state of the art in which the sources and materials for a study of this type are determined, and a periodization of the reception is proposed that includes the following periods: 1) from the 19th century to the Argentine University Reform of 1918, the time of Hegel’s indirect presence; 2) from 1918 to the First National Congress of Philosophy (...) in 1949, the true beginning of the reception of Hegel; 3) from 1949 to 1982/83, a period of dispute between the existentialist, Marxist, theological and Peronist interpretations of Hegel; and 4) from the democratic restoration to the present, when an institutional consolidation of Hegelian Studies is perceived in the country. As first conclusions, the federal character of the reception of Hegel’s philosophy and the two main moments of the institutionalization of Hegelian Studies in 1931 and 1983 stand out. The first one, in the context of the anti-positivist reaction and the vindication of German philosophy, and the second one, in the framework of the stabilization of academic activity due to the democratic transition. The purpose of our article is to investigate and report on a document analysis study of social studies education in Argentina. In particular, our focus is on the progression of citizenship education and the inclusion of global perspectives in social studies education within Argentina's elementary schools. Like many other countries in the world, Argentina has followed a growing trend to include global perspectives in their national curricula. We investigate the contours of what this entails for Argentina's elementary schools. We begin (...) the article by situating our purpose in the larger field of global citizenship education. Next, we review the literature and describe Argentina's socio-historical context and report on how that context informs Argentina's education system. We then move to the study's methodology, which is grounded in the following research questions: (1) How is social studies organized in Argentina and how has the purpose of social studies evolved over time? (2) To what degree, if any, are global perspectives represented in Argentina's elementary social studies curricula? To address these questions, we employ document analysis research design (Bowen, 2009). In this analysis, we review Argentina's education policy documents and social studies curricular documents. We follow Fereday and Muir-Cochrane's (2006) three-prong approach for data analysis of documents. We share the findings of the research based on the aforementioned questions. We conclude the article with a discussion of how environmental awareness, human rights, and global competencies are included in the initiative to increase global citizenship education within Argentina's social studies curricula. A diferencia de la filosofía ambiental colombiana, que alcanza un cierto grado de unidad debido a la influencia de la obra de Augusto Ángel-Maya, la filosofía ambiental argentina es más diversa en su panorama de puntos de vista y enfoques. A pesar de que no podría afirmarse que constituyen una filosofía ambiental propiamente tal, los escritos de Rodolfo Kusch podrían hacer una contribución significativa a un pensamiento ambiental anclado en las peculiaridades de nuestra cultura. Alicia Irene Bugallo ha trabajado en (...) temas de ecofilosofía, y ha introducido estos temas a jóvenes, educadores y el público en general. Alcira Bonilla ha introducido un tipo de eco-humanismo ético, que se mueve lejos del antropocentrismo a la vez que evita un fisiocentrismo o sacralización de la naturaleza. A diferencia de Bugallo y Bonilla, cuyas posiciones se acercan a la ecología profunda, María Julia Bertomeu ha enfatizado la necesidad de una clarificación normativa de reglas generalizables orientadas hacia la protección medioambiental. La Escuela Marina Vilte de la Confederación deTrabajadores de la Educación de la República Argentina ha sido un auténtico catalizador formando una nueva generación de educadores con un enfoque en temas ambientales. Un grupo de colaboración de intelectuales que trabaja en pensamiento crítico, encabezado por su coordinador Guido Galafassi, ha creado la revista Theomai y elaborado una crítica de nuestra actual situación socio-ambiental. En cuanto a nuestros medios de comunicación de masas, durante varias décadas Miguel Grinberg y Antonio Brailovsky han sido figuras inspiradoras que han difundido los temas ambientales. (shrink)

El presente trabajo aborda de manera exploratoria la recepción argentina de la Phänomenologie des Geistes de 1807 en los años 60. Nuestro propósito consiste en examinar las obras más destacadas, delimitar los lineamientos interpretativos, las problemáticas de interés más acuciantes, los interlocutores principales y las obras disponibles. En primer lugar, presentamos el tema y señalamos los antecedentes más relevantes. En segundo lugar, nos detenemos en la década de 1960. Sostenemos que los intereses fundamentales de esta etapa se dividen en cuatro (...) temáticas: i. la dialéctica de las figuras de la conciencia, ii. los escritos juveniles de Hegel y su relación con la Phä., iii. las interpretaciones francesas y iv. la relación entre Hegel y Marx. Examinamos las obras más significativas de este periodo a la luz de esta estructuración temática. Finalmente, en tercer lugar, realizamos algunas consideraciones conclusivas que nos permiten dar con una caracterización general de la cuestión desarrollada. (shrink)

Argentina es el país que mayores volúmenes de fernetconsume en el mundo. En el 2012 se intentó llevar a cabo en Mendiolaza, un festival popular alrededor del fernet, para romper un record Guinness. Sin embargo, una disputa que se inició entre diversos actores terminaría sepultando laFernet Fest. Pese a no realizarse dicho evento, los debates expresados a través de distintos medios de comunicación en aquel contexto enriquecieron, desde las ciencias sociales, las distintas aristas de la discusión en torno a la (...) gastronomía y el turismo. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar los emergentes que surgieron en torno al mencionado debate en el marco de la eventual realización de la Fernet Fest. Metodológicamente, se utilizó etnografía virtual para el análisis de artículos de diversos medios gráficos, como así también de sitios de internet y redes sociales. A través del análisis de las diversas voces, fue posible delinear los principales argumentos que surgieron a favor y en contra de la realización del festival, que consideramos son importantes a la hora de pensar sobre las festividades vinculadas al turismo que tienen como componentes centrales las bebidas alcohólicas. In 2012, a popular festival around fernet was attempted in Mendiolaza to break a Guinness record. However, a dispute that began between various actors would end up burying the Fernet Fest. In spite of not having said event, the debates expressed through different press in that context enriched, from the social sciences, the different edges of the discussion around gastronomy and tourism. The objective of this work was to analyze the emerging arguments that arose around the mentioned debate in the framework of the eventual realization of the Fernet Fest. Methodologically, virtual ethnography was used to analyze articles from various newspapers, as well as from internet sites and social networks. Through the analysis of the different voices, it was possible to delineate the main arguments that arose in favor and against the realization of the festival, which we consider important when thinking about the festivities linked to tourism, whose main components are alcoholic drinks. After thirty years of stagnation, production took a formidable leap in excess of 24 to 40 million tons. This almost doubled Argentina's real export capacity. This leap might be seen as the result of the pampa-landowners managerial skills, but in reality is (...) the consequence of a series of public policies and the effect of technological change which not only triggered this increase but showed, moreover, that agricultural production can grow even more: the production of cereals can be increased 50%, and this implies an almost 75% increase in Argentina's exports. In this article, the authors focus on Argentina's activity in the developing field of regenerative medicine, specifically stem cell research. They take as a starting point a recent article by Shawn Harmon (published in this journal) who argues that attempts to regulate the practice in Argentina are morally incoherent. The authors try to show first, that there is no such ‘attempt to legislate’ on stem cell research in Argentina and this is due to a number of reasons that they explain. (...) Second, by examining the role played by different values, conflicting legal and moral views, and the influence of various actors, they attempt to show that the legislative silence regarding stem cell research may not necessarily be a manifestation of a legal/moral disconnection but rather a survival strategy for navigating the long and heated battle on the moral status of the embryo and the kind of treatment it deserves. La poesía como el reino de la miniatura, del modelo a escala relegado, a comienzos de milenio, a dar cuenta de una experiencia cosificada e intransferible, viene a coronar el repliegue que identificamos a partir de tres instantáneas de la poesía argentina contemporánea: el coloquialismo de Argentino hasta la muerte (1963) de César Fernández Moreno, la poesía “neobarrosa” de Néstor Perlongher y el objetivismo de Cosas (2008) de Edgardo Dobry. Del plano general revestido de inquietud sociológica por la identidad nacional (...) (Fernández Moreno), a un plano americano donde el cuerpo goza al ritmo de la aventura del significante liberado (Perlongher), y de allí al plano detalle enfocado directamente en objetos que guardan reminiscencias vivenciales intransferibles (Dobry), la poesía argentina acusa, veinte años de distancia entre cada período, un movimiento de repliegue y extravío. Argentina’s recent trajectory has provoked several discussions in the last few years. Most of them have centred on the character of the new mode of development presumed to have appeared in the wake of the crisis of neoliberal rule. This article provides an analysis of the changes and continuities in capitalist development in Argentina after the crisis of 2001. We provide extensive evidence regarding changes in the mode of development which, we propose, has shifted towards a neo-developmentalist alternative. While we (...) argue that this strategy perpetuates capitalist domination, more importantly we stress that it also implies significant changes from the previous pattern of development. Particularly, the new mode of capitalist development creates a new set of public policies that mediate class-conflict in renewed ways. (shrink)

During an immersion course at the Mexico-US border in January 2015, I encountered the stark juxtaposition between ‘liberation theologies’ and ‘library theologies.’ The gulf that separates these two is not just a class barrier, but is also racialized and linguistic. This article argues that in order to bring the indecent theology of Marcella Althaus-Reid to places like the borderlands, a theological bridge must be constructed that takes seriously both of the contexts being connected. Here I argue that the theological turn (...) in phenomenological studies and Jean-Luc Marion’s concept of ‘erotic phenomenon’ are examples of possible bridges between these two worlds. (shrink)

ABSTRACTGiven its intimate relationship with the human body and its environment, biotechnology innovation, and more particularly stem cell research innovations as a part thereof, implicate diverse social and moral/ethical issues. This paper explores some of the most important and controversial moral concerns raised by human embryonic stem cell research , focusing on concerns relating to the wellbeing of the embryo and the wellbeing of society . It then considers how and whether these concerns are dealt with in regulatory instruments in (...) Argentina, a southern developing country, examining in particular whether the values underlying these concerns have been translated into practical and effective rules reflective of the primary moral positions advanced. It concludes that Argentina's current state of stem cell research governance fails to consistently reflect the moral positions that have formed and is inadequate given Argentina's activity in this field. Este artículo busca realizar una contribución específica a la agenda global de “inclusión educativa” a partir de la recuperación y discusión de distintas problematizaciones realizadas en la academia argentina en diálogo con aportes de la filosofía (política), la historiografía y la sociología de la educación. Luego de repasar algunas definiciones postuladas en el discurso académico y político global y de esbozar algunas coordenadas contextuales que sitúan las problematizaciones argentinas proponemos centrar la discusión en torno a tres ejes: 1) la crítica (...) etimológica o radical al concepto de “inclusión educativa”; 2) algunos principios y dilemas de justicia implicados en la agenda de reforma; y 3) las (im)posibilidades de la forma escolar ante el mandato inclusivo. Finalmente sugerimos la importancia de continuar avanzado en problematizaciones alternativas que habiliten la producción de políticas y sistemas educativos más justos. (shrink)

El objetivo del artículo es conocer los enfoques planteados por las y los activistas que se identifican con el movimiento animalista en Argentina analizando sus percepciones e imaginarios en torno a cómo interpretan la relación entre ambiente y sociedad, el concepto de especismo y el animalismo. Los resultados se desprenden de entrevistas semiestructuradas llevadas a cabo con referentes e integrantes de tres organizaciones animalistas antiespecistas. El análisis se orienta a un enfoque cualitativo para conocer y comprender las percepciones, los imaginarios, (...) las visiones y los enfoques que sus activistas plantean para profundizar en los fundamentos y los saberes colectivos tendientes a la defensa de los animales y a la transformación de la relación especista entre ambiente y sociedad. La estrategia para la recolección de los datos se basó en el muestreo teórico. Se llevaron a cabo 20 entrevistas semiestructuradas con activistas entre 2017 y 2018. Durante la década del ’60, Foucault realiza sus investigaciones histórico-filosóficas bajo el nombre metodológico de arqueología. Este término para referir al estudio de las condiciones históricas de posibilidad que permitieron la aparición de diversos saberes e instituciones. En su libro Las palabras y las cosas, una arqueología de las ciencias humanas (1966), Foucault centra su trabajo de descripción de las distintas épocas del pensamiento en torno a los conceptos de episteme y a priori histórico, ambos abandonados al menos en la (...) década siguiente, cuando Foucault pasa a describir su labor intelectual como genealogía. En el campo intelectual argentino, la recepción y circulación de la obra de Foucault varió mucho desde los años cincuenta hasta nuestros días. En los últimos años, las categorías arqueológicas fueron utilizadas para pensar tanto la historia intelectual como el diagnóstico de la sociedad contemporánea. En el presente trabajo nos encargaremos de presentar dos actualizaciones de la episteme foucaultiana para pensar las tensiones entre saber y política: la era de las Formas de Elías Palti y la episteme posmoderna de Pablo Manolo Rodríguez mostrando cómo ambas expresiones reformulan el aparato conceptual empleado por Foucault para pensar una arqueología de lo político en el caso del primero y la aparición de la cibernética en el caso del segundo autor. Para dicha tarea, nos concentraremos los elementos que retienen ambos autores argentinos, así como también en aquellos puntos en los que ambos toman distancia del pensador de Poitiers. (shrink)

El trabajo aborda la producción de las artes visuales desde sus prácticas y procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje en cruce con las políticas neoliberales en Argentina. Nos interesa detenernos en identificar cómo se introduce esta doctrina política y los alcances que llega a tener en las artes visuales hasta la actualidad. El recorrido que se propone es a través de una perspectiva interdisciplinaria guiada por la lectura de autores clave. Proceso que nos permite poner en tensión y/o articular universos conceptuales, (...) prácticas y territorios; entramados con el contexto social, político y económico del país durante los años noventa y el principio de siglo. Para indagar en este análisis se tiene en cuenta el rol del Estado, la intervención del llamado “tercer sector “y el surgimiento de proyectos pedagógicos privados, como las clínicas de arte (Zuain y Giménez, 2009) y las residencias (Mellado, 2015; Sepúlveda y Petroni, 2011) en los procesos de formación e inscripción de los artistas visuales. Por otro lado, nos proponemos indagar en torno a pedagogías des-territorializadas identificando operaciones extractivistas de carácter epistémico y cultural para reflexionar sobre las condiciones de producción artística, en Argentina, durante la última década de los años noventa y principios de los dos mil (Grosfoguel, 2016). This paper examines the status of Corporate Ethical Policies (CEP) in large companies in Argentina, Brazil and Spain, with a special emphasis on Corporate Ethics Statements (CES), documents that define the firms’ philosophy, values and norms of conduct. It is based on a survey of the 500 largest companies in these nations. The findings reveal many similarities between these countries. Among other things, it emerges that most companies give consideration to ethics in business and have adopted some kind of formal (...) or informal ethical policies. Regardless of whether or not they have a CES, companies agree that ethical conduct must be taken into account when selecting, appraising and promoting personnel as an important ethical policy. There is a growing tendency to draw up formal corporate ethics documents. These documents are perceived, first and foremost, as supporting the development of corporate culture. Most respondents believe that primary responsibility for ethical issues in the company rests with the CEO. Finally, the findings indicate that most companies that devote more resources to communicating and implementing CESs have two or more formal ethics documents. The main differences between the countries included in the study concern the emphasis given to specific aspects, such as avoiding misconduct or taking ethical criteria into account when selecting personnel. The emphasis is greatest in countries where corruption seems most prevalent. (shrink)
