Prosopography of Greek rhetors and sophists of the Roman empire.Paweł Janiszewski - 2015 - New York, NY: Oxford University Press. Edited by Krystyna Stebnicka, Elzbieta Szabat & Dorota Dzierzbicka.
This volume - the first project of its kind in the field - collates c. 1200 biographical entries on Greek sophists and rhetors who flourished in the Roman Empire from the first to the seventh century AD. The prosopography provides comprehensive information on sophists and their activities, using abundant and varied source material such as (...)

Fifty Years of Prosopography: The Later Roman Empire, Byzantium and Beyond.Averil Cameron (ed.) - 2003 - Oup/British Academy.
Prosopography is the collection of all known information about individuals within a given period. With the advent of computer technology it is now possible to gather and store such information in increasingly sophisticated and searchable databases, which can bring a new dimension to traditional historical research. The book surveys the transition in prosopographical research from more traditional methods to the new technology, and discusses the central role of the British Academy, as well as that of French, German and Austrian (...)

The People of Plato: A Prosopography of Plato and Other Socratics.Debra Nails - 2002 - Hackett Publishing.
The People of Plato is the first study since 1823 devoted exclusively to the identification of, and relationships among, the individuals represented in the complete Platonic corpus. It provides details of their lives, and it enables one to consider the persons of Plato's works, and those of other Socratics, within a nexus of important political, social, and familial relationships. Debra Nails makes a broad spectrum of scholarship accessible to the non-specialist. She distinguishes what can be stated confidently from what remains (...)

In this study we examine the information in the sources concerning the Byzantine family of Opoi in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. According to the sources, the Opoi were an important family in that period. Although they did not belong to the major aristocratic families, many of them were distinguished in the military administration of the Empire, such as Constantine Opos during the reign of Romanos III Argyros and Michael IV Paphlagon , the homonymous officer of Alexios I Komnenos , (...)

    The Belissariotai family: a contribution to Byzantine prosopography.Alexandros Papadopoulos - 2022 - Byzantinische Zeitschrift 115 (3):949-976.
Michael and Niketas Choniates, significant figures of letters of the second half of the twelfth and the early thirteenth century, were closely related to the Belissariotai, a noble family of the Byzantine aristocracy. Thanks to both Choniatai brothers we are able to gather valuable information about the Belissariotai and to examine not only their role in the administration of the state during the last quarter of the twelfth century, but also their unbreakable bonds of friendship and kinship with the Choniatai.
