Przedmiotem artykułu jest opis przechowywanych w Bibliotece Narodowej rudymentów Archiwum Stanisława Jachowicza. Jest to zaledwie kilka (z wielu zaginionych) jednostek rękopiśmiennych, które wiele wnoszą do badań nad myślą pedagogiczno-wychowawczą poety w kontekście jego ultrakatolickiego światopoglądu. W wyniku wstępnej analizy zwartości trzech tomów skrupulatnie prowadzonych Dzienników dotyczących rozwoju psychofizycznego synów Jachowicza oraz Wierszy poświęconych własnej rodzinie wyprowadzono wnioski co do postawy poety wobec potomstwa oraz formuł pedagogicznych, jakie wprowadzał w życie. Zachowane teksty ukazują go jako ojca świadomego swoich obowiązków rodzicielskich, a (...) przy tym kreatywnego, tworzącego dla swoich dzieci miniatury literackie osnute wokół rozpoznawalnych dla nich kontekstów. Zarówno Dzienniki, jak i wiersze zawierają refleksje i pouczenia, których fundamentem jest altruizm i miłosierdzie, wartości, które określały życie małżeństwa Jachowiczów. (shrink)

Polnisch-ukrainische Literaturverbindungen haben lange und vielseitige Serschichte. Auf den Schicksal der polnischen Tradition des literarischen Lebens von Ukraina hat das Schaffen des Fürsten von polnischen Dichtern Zeit der Aufklärung des Bischofs Ignacy Krasicki, von allem mit seinen Märchen, ziemlich großen Einfluss ausgeübt. Am Anfang des XIX Jh. führt Krasicki, von Dichtern-Übersetzern, beispielsweise von Piotr Hułak-Artemowski und Łewko Borowykowski, geholfen, nicht nur neue Ideen und Themen, sondern auch poetische Aussageformen in die ukrainische Literatur ein. Die forliegende Arbeit stellt allgemeine Bemerkungen als (...) Ergebniss der Konfrontation einiger Werken von beiden ukrainischen Schriftstellern und bisher durchgeführten einleitenden Analysen dar. Na wstępie autor twierdzi, że w wyniku Wielkiej Rewolucji nastąpił podział francuskiej myśli politycznej XIX w. na dwa przeciwstawne sobie nurty: konserwatyzm i doktryny socjalistyczne. Przeciwstawienie takie utrudnia usytuowanie myśli Alexies de Tocquevllle na siatce ówczesnych sporów teoretycznych. Celem tej pracy jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób de Tocqueville, żywiąc niechęć do francuskiej ideologii socjalistycznej, nie mieści się również na przeciwległym biegunie stanowisk politycznych, tj. nie jest myślicielem konserwatywnym. Konfrontacja jego liberalnego i pluralistycznego modelu społeczeństwa z koncepcjami socjalistycznymi z jednej, a (...) myślą konserwatywną z drugiej strony, pozwala wykazać, jak te dwa zazwyczaj sobie przeciwstawne światopoglądy zbliżają się do siebie w sposobie rozumienia funkcji państwa. Obie ideologie żywią wspólną wiarę w siłę instytucji centralnych, a ich ideałem jest państwo o rozszerzonych kompetencjach. Socjaliści domagali się rządu represjonującego życie społeczne, aby szybciej i skutecznej wprowadzić słuszne zasady sprawiedliwości. Podobnie i zdaniem konserwatystów porządek społeczny cechować się musi hierarchią i realizacją zasady zwierzchnictwa. Tocqueville natomiast uważa, że społeczeństwo nie opiera się na porządku zesłanym przez Boga, ani też na schemacie wywiedzionym z praw natury czy kosmosu. Nie uznaje zatem hierarchicznej struktury społecznej, ani tezy o nadrzędności interesu politycznego względem celów prywatnych. Przeprowadzone w artykule porównania pozwalają konflikty ideologiczne lat 1815 - 1848 widzieć również jako spory toczone pomiędzy zasadą centralizacji a społecznym pluralizmem, wolnością a absolutyzmem politycznym. L’auteur situe l’intérêt intense suscité par les Présocratiques en Allemagne dans les années 1920 dans le contexte de la philologie classique tout en le reconduisant au mouvement de fascination pour l’« archaïque » apparu au cours du dernier quart du xixe siècle. L’auteur montre que ce phénomène trouve sa source dans l’« invention » des Présocratiques par Nietzsche, au point que la réception des Présocratiques, notamment d’Héraclite, peut être considérée comme une réception déguisée de Nietzsche, ce qui éclaire d’un jour (...) nouveau l’invocation du « premier commencement » grec dans le Discours de rectorat de Heidegger.The author situates the interest in Pre-Socratic philosophy in Germany in the 1920s in regard to classical philology, linking this renewal to a fascination with the « archaic » that arose at the end of the 19th century. Critical here is the way this phenomena is rooted in a modern « invention » of Pre-Platonic thinkers through Nietzsche, one that culminates with figures such as Heraclitus functioning as a mask for Nietzsche reception, a philological and hermeneutical situation which illuminates the topic of the « first Greek beginning » in Heidegger’s Rectorial Address. I am enormously grateful to everyone who has contributed to this double issue of Philosophical Topics, to Manuel Dries and Joseph Schear for conceiving the issue and initiating the process of inviting contributions, and to Ed Minar and Jack Lyons, former editor and current editor of the journal respectively, for their excellent work in bringing the issue into existence. Each contribution displays a level of engagement with my book1 that would have been gratifying even if the contribution had been confined (...) exclusively to the chapter that is its immediate focus. What I have found most gratifying, however, is the sensitivity that the contributors have shown to the broader project of the book and to the various connections and patterns that I try to trace across chapters. I thank them warmly for this.In the preface to my book I comment on the fact that I am a philosophical generalist, and I go on to apologize to “all those whose expertise I may have propagated without acknowledgement, or mangled, or worst of all ignored” (MST, xix). Mit Feuilleton bezeichnet man entweder ein Ressort in der Zeitung, das sich unter dem sog. Strich befindet, oder eine journalistische Darstellungsform, die in einer kommentierendbeurteilenden Weise verschiedene Ereignisse, vor allem kulturelle, darstellt. Charakteristisch für das Feuilleton als journalistische Darstellungsform ist ein persönlicher Schreibstil, der das Literarische mit einbezieht. Von daher profiliert sich das Feuilleton zwischen Journalismus und Literatur. In der ersten deutsch-polnischen Zeitung in Lodz Łodźer Anzeiger-Łódzkie Ogłoszenia, die im Jahre 1863 erschien, wurden Feuilletons unregelmäßig gedruckt. Anfänglich fanden unter dem (...) Strich, wo das Ressort platziert wurde, in erster Linie Werbung und kleinere Anzeigen ihren Niederschlag. Mit der Zeit veröffentlichte die Zeitung unter dem Strich Fortsetzungsromane, Feuilletons und kurze Erzählungen. Die Zeitungsredaktion machte eine Ausgrenzung zwischen dem polnischen und deutschen Ressort, so dass man verschiedene Texte einem deutschen und polnischen Leser bot. Da der Verleger Johann Petersilge über eine einfache Drucktechnik und keine erfahrenen Journalisten verfügte, waren viele Feuilletons nachgedruckt. Sie hatten einen rudimentären Charakter und ihre Funktion begrenzte sich generell auf Unterhaltung und Aufklärung des Lesepublikums. (shrink)

In the Classical Quarterly, XIX., pp. 192–3, in some remarks on the word celtis, I suggested that the Philoxenus gloss CE 23 was in reality a fusion of two glosses— Celtis : ȋνα Celtis : ίΧθύος εδος and I tried to show that the former was a Bible gloss from Job xix. 24. Since the appearance of my article it has been pointed out by Professor Housman, in a communication to Professor W. M. Lindsay, that I had overlooked the kindred (...) Philoxenus gloss SQ 4 ; and it would appear that, in view of this regrettable oversight, the division of the gloss CE 23 and the explanation of the first part as a Bible gloss is untenable. (shrink)

IN the Byzantinische Zeitschrift xxi. 52 Paul Maas states: ‘Es ist das Verdienst von H. B. Dewing, zuerst erkannt zu haben, dasz Prokop seine Satzschliisse rhythmisch reguliert.’ That this is only partly true appears from the remark of Heisenberg in the Berliner Philologische Wochenschrift, 1901, Sp. 1481, who comments on it, and that in a case of text–criticism, and likewise from a remark of Cronert in the Rheinisches Museum, 54, 1899, 593. Dewing was the first to point out the connection (...) between the rhythm of Procopius and Meyer's law and to collect specific statistical material, although his numbers are to a great extent of no practical value. Compare in this connection Maas B.Z. xix. 593 . It appears to me that the correct statement of the end–rhythm of Procopius is that given by Maas for Constantinus Manasses, B.Z. xi. 505: ‘Im Ausgang der Satzglieder musz die Zahl der zwischen den letzten beiden Hochtonen stehenden Silben eine gerade sein,’ on condition that 0 is considered as an even number. The article, is aimed at presenting the main conceptions of eugenics movement and its social consequences. ‘Improvements of societies’ were often executed at the expense of individuals or the whole social groups which were considered inferior species Thousands of people were sterilized or eliminated. That is why the word \'eugenics\' arouses negative feelings nowadays. Unexpectedly however, eugenics is again in favour in a completely new social context.

W dotychczasowej popularyzacji w\iedzy oraz w badaniach naukowych nad dziejami kościoła oo. Bernardynów we Lwowie dużo miejsca poświęca się ogólnej historii i walorom artystycznym zabytku. W przypadku epitafiów i tablic pamiątkowych zwraca się przede wszystkim uwagę na ich stan zachowania i wygląd, z pominięciem informacji o okolicznościach powstania i fundacji. Niniejszy artykuł uzupełnia tę lukę i przybliża na podstawie zachowanej dokumentacji archiwalnej okoliczności ich wmurowania, nazwiska fundatorów i charakterystykę dokumentacji w odniesieniu do epitafiów i tablic wykonanych w XIX i XX (...) wieku. Jak dotąd aspekt ten oraz dokumenty nie były przedmiotem analiz i publikacji. (shrink)
