What Dominates the Female Class Identification? Evidence From China.Peng Cheng, Jing Zhou, Ping Jiang & Zhijun Zhang - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
In advocating gender equality today, we should not only pay attention to women's social status but also call for the women's psychological identification of class equality. What dominates female class identification? To answer this question, based on the data of the Chinese General Social Survey in 2015, this study constructs a female class identity framework from five aspects: the mother's intergenerational influence, female personal characteristics, lifestyle, gender consciousness, and spouse status. In this study, the ordered logit model is used to (...)

Training and Transfer Effects of Combining Inhibitory Control Training With Transcutaneous Vagus Nerve Stimulation in Healthy Adults.Chunchen Wang, Xinsheng Cao, Zhijun Gao, Yang Liu & Zhihong Wen - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Inhibitory control training is a promising method to improve individual performance of inhibitory control. Recent studies have suggested transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation as a novel approach to affect cognitive function owing to its ability to modulate the locus coeruleus-noradrenaline system. To examine the synergistic effects of combining ICT with tVNS, 58 young males in college were randomly assigned to four groups: ICT + tVNS, ICT + sham tVNS, sham ICT + tVNS, and sham ICT + sham tVNS. Participants were instructed (...)

Brightening the dark side of “linking social capital”? Negotiating conflicting visions of post-Morakot reconstruction in Taiwan.Ming-Cheng Lo & Yun Fan - 2020 - Theory and Society 49 (1):23-48.
Elite domination is recognized as a significant downside of “linking social capital,” but its remedies are under-theorized and scarcely documented. Addressing this gap, we argue that bonding or bridging ties characterized by strong reflexivity, awareness of the state’s symbolic violence, and rich cultural resources for cross-fertilization serve as countervailing mechanisms against unresponsive linking ties. If bonding and bridging ties lack these characteristics, even when those ties are numerous, they are unlikely to challenge unresponsive linking ties. Our theoretical argument is substantiated (...)

Self-Identity and Career Success of Nurses in Infectious Disease Department: The Chain-Mediating Effects of Cognitive Emotion Regulation and Social Support.Chao Wu, Shuang Li, Feixia Cheng, Linyuan Zhang, Yanling Du, Shizhe He & Hongjuan Lang - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
There has been some research conducted regarding nurses’ career success aimed at exploring its influencing factors, but there is no research on the mechanism of self-identity on the career success of infection control nurses. In order to further explore the formation mechanism of career success of nurses, we conducted our study using the Kaleidoscope Career Model to explore the chain-mediating effects of cognitive emotion regulation and social support between self-identity and career success. Five hundred forty-seven infection control nurses from nine (...)

Supervisor’s Negative Mood and Healthcare Workers’ Voice Behavior: A Moderated Mediation Model.Ping Yuan, Yuan Cheng, Yanbin Liu & Shifeng Liu - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Healthcare workers’ voice is of importance in decreasing medical accidents and improving the efficacy of hospital units. To investigate the impact and the underlying mechanisms of supervisors’ negative mood on healthcare workers’ voice behavior, based on the mood contagion perspective, we designed a cross-sectional study, with 299 healthcare workers from mainland China completed the questionnaires. The results indicated supervisors’ negative mood was positively related to healthcare workers’ negative mood, which further led to less constructive voice and more defensive voice. Moreover, (...)

Robust Switching Gain-Based Fractional-Order Sliding Mode Control for Wind-Powered Microgrids.Minghao Zhou, Siwei Cheng, Long Xu, Likun Wang, Qingbo Guo & William Cai - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-12.
This study proposes a novel fractional-order sliding-mode control strategy with robust switching gain to achieve reliable and high quality of wind-powered microgrid systems. Three fractional-order sliding mode controllers are designed to generate continuous control signals and regulate the outer DC-link voltage loop and inner current loop in the grid-side inverters. High robustness and stability of the grid-side inverter can be guaranteed even in the presence of parameter variations and external disturbances. Owing to the fractional-order sliding manifold and fractional-order integral control (...)

  20. The Impact of Digital Technology Innovation on Firm Performance: Based on the Corporate Digital Responsibility Perspective.Siwei Zhu, Kangjuan Lv & Yu Cheng - forthcoming - Business Ethics, the Environment and Responsibility.
In the era of the digital economy, the important issue for enterprises is how to achieve optimal performance by balancing the development of digital technology and undertaking digital responsibility. Based on optimal distinctiveness theory, we explore how enterprises balance the tension between political strategy and competitive strategy from the perspective of corporate digital responsibility to achieve optimal firm performance. Observing data such as annual reports, patent application information, and operating conditions of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2021 reveals (...)

A contingency perspective of pro-organizational motives, unethical pro-organizational behavior, and organizational citizenship behavior.Ken Cheng, Panpan Hu, Limin Guo, Yifei Wang & Yinghui Lin - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Although the effects of pro-organizational motives on pro-organizational behaviors [i.e., unethical pro-organizational behavior and organizational citizenship behavior ] and their boundaries have been explored to some extent, extant studies are rather piecemeal and in need of synthesis and extension. Based on prior motivational research on pro-organizational behaviors, we developed a comprehensive contingent model in which moral identity and impression management motives would moderate the links between pro-organizational motives, UPB, and OCB. Adopting a time-lagged design, we collected data from 218 salespeople (...)

Bacterial microcompartments: their properties and paradoxes.Shouqiang Cheng, Yu Liu, Christopher S. Crowley, Todd O. Yeates & Thomas A. Bobik - 2008 - Bioessays 30 (11-12):1084-1095.
Many bacteria conditionally express proteinaceous organelles referred to here as microcompartments (Fig. 1). These microcompartments are thought to be involved in a least seven different metabolic processes and the number is growing. Microcompartments are very large and structurally sophisticated. They are usually about 100–150 nm in cross section and consist of 10,000–20,000 polypeptides of 10–20 types. Their unifying feature is a solid shell constructed from proteins having bacterial microcompartment (BMC) domains. In the examples that have been studied, the microcompartment shell (...)

Belief or disbelief in feedback influences the detection efficiency of the feedback concealed information test.Jiayu Cheng, Yanyan Sai, Jinbin Zheng, Joseph M. Olson & Liyang Sai - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13:983721.
The feedback concealed information test (fCIT) is a new variant of the CIT that added feedback about participants’ concealing performances in the classical CIT. The advantage of the fCIT is that the resulting feedback related event-related potentials (ERPs) can be used to detect concealed information. However, the detection efficiency of feedback-based ERPs varies across studies. The present experiment examined whether the extent participants believed the feedback influenced their detection efficiency. Specifically, participants did a mock crime and were then tested in (...)

Preliminary Study of the Question of Categories in Chinese Philosophy.Chung-Ying Cheng - 1986 - Chinese Studies in Philosophy 18 (2):29.
In the study of Chinese philosophy, whether looking at its historical development or comparing different schools of one particular period, the question of categories inevitably appears. The question of categories, in simple terms, may be understood as the question of those concepts concerned with basic thinking. Analyzed more closely, the question of Chinese philosophical categories can be divided into the following topics: the types and content of categories; standards for defining categories; the special characteristics of categories; category changes and their (...)

This paper attempts to examine how the concepts of power, transparency and control are perceived in the life of ordinary Hong Kong people, and how the latter have been adapting to their perceptions and evaluations. The 2008 global financial tsunami and its aftermath will likely have a serious impact on their values. Hong Kong people’s experiences may in some ways represent those of modern men, especially those in East Asia. Democracy is premised on the ideal that life is meaningful through (...)

    Rectifying Names(Cheng-Ming) in Classical Confucianism.Cheng C.-Y. - 1977 - Chinese Studies in Philosophy 8 (3):67-81.
The concept of rectifying names [cheng-ming] is a familiar one in the Confucian Analects. It occupies an important, if not central, position in the political philosophy of Confucius. Since, according to Confucius, the rectification of names is the basis of the establishment of social harmony and political order, one might suspect that later political theories of Confucian-ists should be traced back to the Confucian doctrine of rectifying names. It need not be added that the theory of rectifying names, as (...)
