Reexamining Race and Capitalism in the Marxist Tradition – Editorial Introduction.Robert Knox & Ashok Kumar - 2023 - Historical Materialism 31 (2):25-48.
The question of capitalism’s relationship to issues of race, racism and processes of racialisation has become increasingly prominent in contemporary debates. This special issue of Historical Materialism on ‘Race and Capital’ seeks to intervene in these debates. In this Introduction, we situate the special issue within this wider political, historical and theoretical context. We begin by reconstructing some of the key tensions and fault lines within contemporary discussions of race and racism, particularly in relation to the Marxist tradition. Against those (...)

Neural Machine Translation System for English to Indian Language Translation Using MTIL Parallel Corpus.K. P. Soman, M. Anand Kumar & B. Premjith - 2019 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 28 (3):387-398.
Introduction of deep neural networks to the machine translation research ameliorated conventional machine translation systems in multiple ways, specifically in terms of translation quality. The ability of deep neural networks to learn a sensible representation of words is one of the major reasons for this improvement. Despite machine translation using deep neural architecture is showing state-of-the-art results in translating European languages, we cannot directly apply these algorithms in Indian languages mainly because of two reasons: unavailability of the good corpus and (...)

A meta‐analysis exploring the relationship between perceived brand ethicality and consumer response.M. Geetha, Arun Kumar Kaushik, Jensolin Abithakumari & Preeti R. Gotmare - 2024 - Business Ethics, the Environment and Responsibility 33 (4):763-779.
Recent research highlights the relationship between perceived brand ethicality (PBE), consumer purchase intention, and the consumer–brand relationship. Existing empirical studies offer mixed findings on whether these three relate positively, negatively, or not at all. Moreover, their relationships have not been the primary focus of existing meta-analytic reviews. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to provide an empirical consensus to this debate by studying the magnitude of the association between PBE and consumer responses (purchase intention, brand trust, and brand loyalty). Moreover, we (...)

    (1 other version)Liberty, Secrecy, and the Right of Assessment.Daniele Santoro & Manohar Kumar - 2024 - Law and Philosophy 44 (1).
In this article we argue that governmental practices of secrecy threaten the epistemic dimension of rights. We defend the view that possessing a right entitles its holder to the largest extent of available knowledge of the circumstances that may impede the enjoyment of that right. We call this the ‘epistemic entitlement’ of rights. Such an entitlement holds in ideal conditions once full transparency is assumed. However, under non-ideal conditions secrecy is a fact that should be accounted for. We argue that, (...)

Unmasking user vulnerability: investigating the barriers to overcoming dark patterns in e-commerce using TISM and MICMAC analysis.Vibhav Singh, Niraj Kumar Vishvakarma & Vinod Kumar - 2024 - Journal of Information, Communication and Ethics in Society 22 (2):275-292.
E-commerce companies use dark patterns to manipulate customer decisions to survive in the crowded online market and make profit. Although some online customers are aware of the dark patterns, they cannot overcome such manipulations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify and model the barriers to overcoming dark patterns using total interpretive structural modeling (TISM).,Barriers to overcoming dark patterns were identified from the extant literature and were validated by a panel of 18 domain experts. In the modeling phase, (...)

Philosophy of J. Krishnamurti: a systematic study.Ravindra Kumar Shringy - 1977 - New Delhi: Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers.
Description: J. Krishnamurti was a free thinker of international reputation. His thinking was free from conditioning influences of the different systems of philosophy, Eastern as well as Western, religious dogmatism, political ideology, intellectual speculation and cultural bias. He, in his life-work, opened a new chapter in the history of Indian philosophy and religion by his earnest and deep: as-a-matter-of-fact enquiry into the nature of existence and reality without any presumptions or assumptions. His approach to understanding life is direct and simple (...)

Indian philosophers of the recent past.Sanjay Kumar Shukla - 2022 - New Delhi: Indian Council of Philosophical Research and DK Printworld.
The present work, "Indian Philosophers of the Recent Past" , reflects and deliberates over recent Indian scholarship in philosophy. It is to get the present and future generations of philosopher-scholars acquainted with the rich Indian philosophical heritage. This is going to deepen our insights into the nature of philosophical consciousness and into the act of philosophizing. It makes an attempt to analyse the philosophies of outstanding philosophers such as K.C. Bhattacharyya, S. Radhakrishnan, R.D. Ranade, A.C. Mukerji, T.R.V. Murti, N.K. Devraja, (...)

Societies are always gathered around a particular object or an idea that serves as its totem and its driving principle. This conscious arrangement of society, especially around an ideal, has been termed in history as utopias, which consciously moulds an individual’s behaviour inhabiting it for the desired future goal. However, in the hyper-humanistic period, called by James Scott as High-modernism, we can see a drastic truncation in the scope and range of those desired future forms, limited only to economic and (...)

The aim of this chapter is to describe a type of law governing involuntary treatment that is based on decision-making capability and not on risk of harm to self or others. It is consistent with the legal and ethical principles followed in general medicine, and non-discriminatory against people with a mental illness. The rationale behind the proposal is outlined, as well as its principles and main features. It is argued that this type of law could be adapted to the needs (...)

A Novel Dual Image Watermarking Technique Using Homomorphic Transform and DWT.Vinay Kumar Srivastava & Priyank Khare - 2020 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 30 (1):297-311.
In this paper a new technique of dual image watermarking is proposed for protection of ownership rights which utilizes salient properties of homomorphic transform (HT), discrete wavelet transform (DWT), singular value decomposition (SVD) and Arnold transform (AT). In embedding algorithm host image is splitted into reflectance and illumination components using HT, DWT is further applied to the reflectance component resulting in frequency subbands (HL and LH) which are transformed by SVD. Two image watermarks are selected for embedding process whereas security (...)

Journeying with the Dying—Lessons from Palliative Care Physicians.Lalit Kumar Radha Krishna, Nur Amira Binte Abdul Hamid, Nicole-Ann Lim, Chong Yao Ho & Halah Ibrahim - forthcoming - Asian Bioethics Review:1-23.
Witnessing suffering and death in palliative care can cause moral distress, emotional exhaustion and maladaptive coping strategies. How sense and meaning is made from these experiences influences how physicians think, feel and act as professionals (professional identity formation or PIF). It also determines how they cope with their roles, care for patients and interact with other professionals. Timely, personalised and appropriate support is key as shaping how these physicians develop and contend with sometimes competing beliefs and roles. The Ring Theory (...)

In the realm of computational intelligence, the age-old adage, "not everything is black and white," has never been more pertinent. Through the lens of fuzzy logic and neutrosophic systems, Applications of Fuzzy Theory in Applied Sciences and Computer Applications, unravels the complex tapestry of uncertainty, imprecision, and subjectivity in real-world scenarios. This book stands as a testament to the power of fuzzy systems in bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and their pragmatic applications. Chapter one introduces readers to the ever-evolving (...)

Revolution in the Philosophy of Edmund Husserl.Sanjay Kumar Shukla - 2005 - New Delhi: Satyam Publishing House.
The present work is an attempt to critically analyse different philosophical concepts and theories associated with Husserlian phenomenology Western philosophy has witnessed series of revolutions beginning from Socratic-Platonic tradition to Cartesian and Kantian revolution. The conceptual revolution does not terminate over here rather it is more prominently manifested in Husserl's philosophy. The originality of the author lies in interpreting Husserl's phenomenology as second Copernican revolution Phenomenology is an attempt to locate the principle of objectivity in the element of subjectivity. It (...)

This article discusses the importance of human beings ‘material’ (matter) and ‘spiritual’ (spirit) advancement in Rammanohar Lohia’s concept of modernity and modern civilization. Lohia consistently defended materialism (reason) and spirituality as pivotal human values in his writing and speeches. This article engages with his ideas through a detailed reading of his works, focusing particularly on his essays: ‘Materiality and Spirituality’ and ‘Meaning of Modern Civilisation’. According to him, rational thinking emerges from materialism. He believed spiritual instinct keeps a check on (...)

In present day’s sustainable agriculture is relatively a new area which required more attention by scientist/researchers and this one treated as basic need of human survival. In past decades, sustainable agriculture meets environmental and economic goals simultaneously, that’s why this field has received widespread interest. Green Chemistry is described as the ‘‘design of chemical products and processes to eliminate or reduce the use and generation of hazardous substances. I think, from the standpoint of present experience, one can fairly start by saying that all experience is lived embodied experience, though it is clear that such a statement, if wholly unqualified, would mean a commitment of extensive implications. 1 Some of these implications I will briefly try to spell out toward the end of this essay. I don’t say our body sets limits to how far our imagination can really go, for clearly, if our imagination were wholly controlled by (...)
