    Technology and ethics.Shibasaki Fumikazu - 2005 - Philosophy and Social Criticism 31 (4):487-498.
comes from the Greek o o ( technologia ), which in turn derives from ( technê ), meaning ‘art’ or ‘technique’, and o ( logos ). Modern technology has reached its present advanced level thanks to the pursuit of ever greater efficiency. In other words, technology has achieved its present level of development by changing from the quest for techniques grounded in o to a form of engineering that is devoid of o and merely pursues efficiency. We must not overlook (...)

Kindai Nihon no kokusai kankei ninshiki: Tomonaga Sanjūrō to "Kanto no heiwaron".Atsushi Shibasaki - 2009 - Tōkyō: Sōbunsha.

    Robot with slime brains.Soichiro Tsuda - 2009 - Technoetic Arts 7 (2):133-140.
Despite the exponential progress in computing power of digital computers, the development of lifelike cognitive systems appears has not yet reached the complexity of the simplest kinds of organisms. This may be explained by the lack of robustness of digital computers due to the requirements of structural programmability in the conventional computing architectures. In contrast, biological systems appear to operate in a different mode of information processing. In order to approach more lifelike artificial cognitive systems, the integration of natural and (...)

Do we have (in)compatibilist intuitions? Surveying experimental research.Kiichi Inarimori, Soichiro Homma & Kengo Miyazono - 2024 - Frontiers in Psychology 15 (1369399).
This article critically examines the experimental philosophy of free will, particularly the interplay between ordinary individuals’ compatibilist and incompatibilist intuitions. It explores key insights from research studies that propose “natural compatibilism” and “natural incompatibilism”. These studies reveal a complex landscape of folk intuitions, where participants appear to exhibit both types of intuitions. Here, we examine error theories, which purport to explain the coexistence of apparently contradictory intuitions: the Affective Performance Error hypothesis, the “Free Will No Matter What” hypothesis, the Bypassing (...)

Defeasible reasoning in japanese criminal jurisprudence.Katsumi Nitta & Masato Shibasaki - 1997 - Artificial Intelligence and Law 5 (1-2):139-159.
Modeling legal argumentation is one of the most important research in AI and Law, and a lot of models have been proposed. However, most research has not treated value judgement and debate. In this paper, we introduce a legal reasoning model which covers various aspects of legalreasoning such as making argument, selecting argument and debate.Furthermore, we present how criminal law is described and reasoned inthis model.

  21. Conserving biodiversity and combating climate change can help maintain cultural creativity.Minh-Hoang Nguyen & Quan-Hoang Vuong - manuscript
Scientists in anthropology, geography, and other fields within social sciences and humanities have long suggested that the environments in which people live deeply influence their cultural value systems and practices. Shota Shibasaki, Ryosuke Nakadai, and Yo Nakawake have built on this idea, demonstrating that local ecological characteristics shape the appearance of trickster animals in folklore. Based on their finding and the SM3D (Serendipity-Mindsponge-3D) knowledge management framework, we discuss how the individuals’ or groups’ ability to create cultural products depends on (...)
