  1. Temporality and Asperger's Syndrome.Patricia Ribeiro Zukauskas, Francisco Baptista Assumpção Jr & Nava Silton - 2009 - Journal of Phenomenological Psychology 40 (1):85-106.
Asperger's syndrome is a pervasive developmental condition characterized by features of autism. As observed in clinical practice, individuals with Asperger's syndrome present an impairment related to inflexibility in their everyday routine, an immediate manner of experiencing and relating, and difficulties in estimating periods of time. Following a phenomenological perspective, this study is an attempt to examine these aforementioned aspects in terms of temporality. Thirteen participants with Asperger's syndrome, from 13 to 20 years old, were interviewed about their experience of periods (...)

Organizational purpose concept clarity: An exploration of employees' perspectives.Gabriel A. Kilson & Patrícia Tavares - 2024 - Business and Society Review 129 (4):601-625.
Employees play a critical role in materializing the company's purpose as they are the ones responsible for planning and executing all the organizational activities. Considering their vital role, we explored how employees, currently working full‐time from home, perceive their participation in the company's purpose. To do so, we performed online interviews with 23 employees from 14 companies. In addition to employees' perspectives, we collected textual data from the companies' websites where these employees were working, allowing us to compare both perspectives (...)

Technological Surveillance Study on the Development of Beekeeping Technologies.Yaneth Patricia Romero Alvarez, Mario Frank Pérez Pérez & William Niebles - forthcoming - Evolutionary Studies in Imaginative Culture:1565-1576.
This study employed a technology surveillance process in the beekeeping sector with the objective of identifying emerging technologies that are relevant to small beekeepers in emerging economies. The analysis of patents classified under A01K 47/00 revealed the emergence of pivotal innovations in domains such as hive design, automated honey extraction, and the integration of sensors for hive monitoring. The surveillance process facilitated the collection and analysis of data on the most patented technologies in the sector, thereby addressing key planning questions. (...)

An imperfect duty such as the duty to aid those in need is supposed to leave leeway for choice as to how to satisfy it, but if our reason for a certain way of satisfying it is our strongest, that leeway would seem to be eliminated. This paper defends a conception of practical reasons designed to preserve it, without slighting the binding force of moral requirements, though it allows us to discount certain moral reasons. Only reasons that offer criticism of (...)

    Medical Ethics versus Bioethics (a.k.a. Principlism).Patrick Guinan - 2006 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 6 (4):651-659.
The Hippocratic ethic, or medical ethics, has guided medical practitioners for 2,500 years. More recently it has been displaced by bioethics. Traditional medicalethics is a covenant between a competent physician and a sick patient, the purpose of which is to effect healing. Bioethics is a civil consensual ethic regulating health-care delivery. It is not personal by nature.Medical ethics is a deontological, virtue-based ethic. Bioethics, particularly as expressed in principlism, its most prominent school in the United States, isa liberal utilitarian ethic (...)

Systems Thinking and Moral Imagination: Rethinking Business Ethics with Patricia Werhane.Patricia Werhane, Regina Wolfe & David Bevan (eds.) - 2018 - Cham: Springer Verlag.
This volume brings together a selection of papers written by Patricia Werhane during the most recent quarter century. The book critically explicates the direction and development of Werhane’s thinking based on her erudite and eclectic sampling of orthodox philosophical theories. It starts out with an introductory chapter setting Werhane’s work in the context of the development of Business Ethics theory and practice, along with an illustrative time line. Next, it discusses possible interpretations of the papers that have been divided (...)

Is Assisted Nutrition and Hydration Always Mandated?Patrick Guinan - 2010 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 10 (3):481-488.
There is controversy in the Catholic medical ethics community surrounding assisted nutrition and hydration (ANH). Recently, the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services were amended to make ANH “obligatory.” The persistent vegetative state is cited specifically in the document, and the sentence following its mention states that ANH is “optional” when it cannot be expected to “prolong life” or when it would be “excessively burdensome.” For patients suffering from other medical conditions, such as dementia and frailty, ANH (...)

Autonomy Has Not Killed Hippocrates.Patrick Guinan - 2009 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 9 (4):681-688.
The Hippocratic tradition in medicine was declared to be over a generation ago. Classical medicine with the time-honored doctor–patient relationship was deemed paternalistic. Autonomy, in large part because of the Belmont Report of 1979, was ascendant. A new academic discipline, bioethics, was to replacemedical ethics. The patient would be free of paternalism, and health care would not look back. But it has not worked out that way. It seems that where life-threatening disease is concerned, a patient cannot be truly autonomous. (...)

    Hippocratic and Judeo-Christian Medical Ethics Defended.Patrick Guinan - 2008 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 8 (2):245-254.
The Hippocratic oath and ethic have guided medicine for twenty-five hundred years. In the past thirty years there has been an effort to discredit the Hippocratic tradition. The mantra has been “the Hippocratic ethic is dead.” An article by Robert Veatch and Carol Mason, “Hippocratic vs. Judeo-Christian Medical Ethics,” epitomizes the anti-Hippocratic crusade. Veatch and Mason make three points: (1) there is no continuity between the oath and Judeo-Christian ethics; (2) the oath is flawed; and, more important, (3) the Hippocratic (...)
