Ethical Analysis of “Mind Reading” or “Neurotechnological Thought Apprehension”: Keeping Potential Limitations in Mind.Peter Zuk & Gabriel Lázaro-Muñoz - 2019 - American Journal of Bioethics Neuroscience 10 (1):32-34.
We appreciate Meynen’s examination of ethical implications of using neurotechnologies to decode neural data and make inferences about cognitive processes. Here, we address three issues that we beli...

    Mill's Metaethical Non-cognitivism.Peter Zuk - 2018 - Utilitas 30 (3):271-293.
In section I, I lay out key components of my favoured non-cognitivist interpretation of Mill's metaethics. In section II, I respond to several objections to this style of interpretation posed by Christopher Macleod. In section III, I respond to David Brink's treatment of the well-known ‘competent judges’ passage in Mill'sUtilitarianism. I argue that important difficulties face both Brink'sevidential interpretationand the rivalconstitutive interpretationthat he proposes but rejects. I opt for a third interpretative option that I call thepsychological interpretation. This interpretation makes (...)

    Kritische Theorie Heute.Peter V. Zima & Rainer Winter (eds.) - 2007 - Transcript Verlag.

Longitudinal Influences of DRD4 Polymorphism and Early Maternal Caregiving on Personality Development and Problem Behavior in Middle Childhood and Adolescence.Peter Zimmermann & Gottfried Spangler - 2022 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 16.
Most studies examining gene-environment effects on self-regulation focus on outcomes early childhood or adulthood. However, only a few studies investigate longitudinal effects during middle childhood and adolescence and compare two domains of early caregiving. In a longitudinal follow-up with a sample of N = 87, we studied the effects of differences in the DRD4 tandem repeat polymorphisms and two domains of early maternal caregiving quality on children’s personality development using Block’s California Child Q-Set at age six and age 12 and (...)

Leonhard Euler (1707–1783) treated in his study „De motu vibratorio tympanorum [6], published in 1766, the theory of the vibrating rectangular and circular membrane mathematically in such a comprehensive way that little more had to be added, considering today's standards. However, he omitted to interprete his results physically. Therefore his uncomparable work found little recognition, especially in the field of musical accoustics.

Why the One and the Many Will Not Go Away.Peter Zachar - 2013 - Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology 20 (2):131-136.
The Contrast Between the nomothetic versus the idiographic was popularized in psychology by Gordon Allport (1937). In the early 1930s, Allport made his name by advocating for a quantitative, trait-based approach to the study of personality in contrast with the prevailing case study approach. In doing so, he was following the trend toward greater reliance on measurement in psychology as a whole. Allport, however, had grave doubts about the sufficiency of quantitative measurement for developing an understanding of individual psychological functioning. (...)

    Nondeterministic three-valued logic: Isotonic and guarded truth-functions.Peter Päppinghaus & Martin Wirsing - 1983 - Studia Logica 42 (1):1 - 22.
Nondeterministic programs occurring in recently developed programming languages define nondeterminate partial functions. Formulas (Boolean expressions) of such nondeterministic languages are interpreted by a nonempty subset of {T (true), F (false), U (undefined)}. As a semantic basis for the propositional part of a corresponding nondeterministic three-valued logic we study the notion of a truth-function over {T, F, U} which is computable by a nondeterministic evaluation procedure. The main result is that these truth-functions are precisely the functions satisfying four basic properties, called (...)
