The idea that certain troubadours may have anthologized their own songs into compilations and even books has tantalized scholars ever since Gustav Gröber published his bold monograph on the question in 1877. Gröber's hypothesis about the prevalence of such compilations and books is now often put in doubt. It remains plausible, though uncertain, that several troubadours did put together collections of their own works — among them, Peire Vidal , Ponç de la Guardia , and Cerveri de Girona . Or son Avertissement est tout entier consacré à répondre à des objections qui lui avaient été adressées en 1916 par un de ses anciens étudiants, encore inconnu, Louis Rougier. À son maître, celui-ci opposait les résultats de l'algèbre de la logique ou de l'axiomatique hilbertienne. L'article présente tour à tour les deux positions en présence et montre quelques-unes des difficultés rencontrées dans le passage d'une logique (...) philosophique à une logique mathématique, et en particulier les équivoques qui entourent l'usage qui était fait alors de la notion de construction. This article discusses ways in which Pierre Bourdieu's literary sociology has inspired scholarship on modern Chinese literature, helping it to move away from overly politicized paradigms of literary historiography. The article also asks the question to what extent the use of a Bourdieusian model has resulted in an overemphasis on the ‘relative autonomy’ of a literary field that, at various times during the twentieth century, has been operating under conditions of strong direct state interference. After giving a general overview of (...) the use of Bourdieu's ideas in the study of modern Chinese literature, the article focuses especially on the question of autonomy and the state, arguing for the study of state censors as specific ‘agents’ within the literary field. The article ends with a brief discussion of the rapid rise of online literary communities in China, their practices and their relation to state institutions. (shrink)

This seminal, multidisciplinary book shows how mathematics can be used to study the first principles of DNA. Most importantly, it enriches the so-called "Chargaff's grammar of biology" by providing the conceptual theoretical framework necessary to generalize Chargaff's rules. Starting with a simple example of DNA mathematical modeling where human nucleotide frequencies are associated to the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio through an optimization problem, its breakthrough is showing that the reverse, complement and reverse-complement operators defined over oligonucleotides induce a (...) natural set partition of DNA words of fixed-size. These equivalence classes, when organized into a matrix form, reveal hidden patterns within the DNA sequence of every living organism. How « the Father » became the cause of the pathologies affecting the family. When, in the 1960s, fathers lost their control over procreation and their control over women and children, some cracks started to appear in the edifice of patriarchal domination. There followed a reaction in which all the disorders today troubling the order of the family came to be traced back to this eclipse of the father figure. From this there emerged a veritable « State psychological apparatus » (...) whose aim was the sanctification of the traditional domestic functions : the father as the figure of authority, the mother as carer. Indifferent to its social and historical dimensions, Oedipus assumed the status of a, presumably universal, « symbolic order », dominated by the father and master. MT here calls into question the entire conceptual order of Lévi-Strauss and Lacan : the idea that the foundation of power and reason is naturally a masculine prerogative. Above all else, the article calls into question the interpretation put forward by Pierre Legendre, which assigns to a (patriarchal) juridical order the task of structuring the psyche. (shrink)

This book provides an innovative way to revisit the depth and scope of our moral/post-moral worldviews, while undertaking an ontic reflection about organizational life. The ontic dimension of life refers to existing entities’ lived experiences. It has nothing to do with psychological and relational processes. The ontic level of analysis mirrors a philosophical outlook on organizational life. Unlike moral worldviews, post-moral worldviews oppose the existence of Truth-itself. Post-moral worldviews rather imply that dialogical relationships allow people to express their own truth-claims (...) and welcome others’ truth-claims. The purpose of this book is to explain the philosophical implications of moral and post-moral worldviews and the way to move from a moral to a post-moral worldview. Moreover, this book explores the possibility to transcend the moral/post-moral dualism, through moral deliberation processes and a reinterpretation of the Presence of the Infinite in all dimensions of human life. This book could eventually help to better grasp the basic philosophical challenges behind ethical reflection about organizational issues. (shrink)

À partir d’exemples littéraires, l’auteur tente de définir les voies et les moyens de la séduction. Transgression et perversion avec Don Juan, plaisir (...) et instinct avec Casanova, stratégie et ruse avec Valmont. Sans oublier les plans élaborés de la carte du tendre, héritière au XVII e siècle de l’amour courtois du Moyen Âge, et la méthode très sophistiquée de séduction exposée par le philosophe danois Soeren Kierkegaard dans Le journal d’un séducteur. Des variantes existent entre les différents courants qui, en France, s’intéressent à l’activité des « lieux d’accueil neutres pour l’exercice du droit de visite ». Ces divergences masquent une communauté idéologique et des enjeux inconscients très forts. Sous l’argument de faire respecter le droit de l’enfant « d’accéder à ses deux parents », la notion d’« amour » joue un rôle essentiel et occulté dans les représentations psychiques des intervenants (et des magistrats) et les pratiques des acteurs. Or, si l’amour (...) est ce qui pousse à favoriser la rencontre entre parent et enfant dans un cadre réglé par la loi, le strict respect de l’ordonnance du juge peut nous placer dans une situation impossible. On en vient à percevoir que les intervenants des lieux d’accueil se trouvent, pour des raisons éthiques, déontologiques et humaines, dans une obligation de transgression : situation intenable. Le lieu d’accueil est cependant le cadre où s’opère la désintrication des pulsions de vie et des pulsions de mort. Il permet aux ex-conjoints de restaurer leur capacité à être parents ensembles en renonçant à leur violence meurtrière envers l’autre, ce qui dégage l’enfant et lui permet d’aimer sans être menacé. Speaking the Truth about Oneself is composed of lectures that acclaimed French philosopher Michel Foucault delivered in 1982 at the University of Toronto. As is characteristic of his later work, he is concerned here with the care and cultivation of the self, which becomes the central theme of the second and third volumes of his famous History of Sexuality, published in French in 1984, the month of his death, and which are explored here in a striking and typically illuminating (...) fashion. Throughout his career, Foucault had always been interested in the question of how constellations of knowledge and power produce and constitute subjects. But in the last phase of his life, he became especially interested not only in how subjects are constituted by outside forces but in how they constitute themselves. In this lecture series and accompanying seminar, we find Foucault focused on antiquity, starting with classical Greece, the early Roman dynasties, and concluding with fourth- and fifth-century Christian monasticism. Foucault's claim is that, in these periods, we see the development of a new kind of act-"speaking the truth" (about oneself)-as the locus of a new form of subjectivity, which he deemed important not just for historical reasons but also as something modernity could harness anew or adapt to its own purposes.
