    Huts and Farm Buildings in Homer.Mary O. Knox - 1971 - Classical Quarterly 21 (01):27-.
These seem to be regarded as quite a different type of building from houses. The terminology used of them is to a large extent distinct. The only case of extensive overlapping has probably a special stylistic reason. The main words involved are κλισίη , αύλή , μσσαυλος , and σταθμός/–οί . The evidence is scanty: in the Iliad there are a number of passages relating to soldiers' huts, and a few mentions of farms in similes and in the Shield section. (...)

    A Phenomenological System of Ethics (I).Mary Evelyn Clarke - 1932 - Philosophy 7 (28):414 - 430.
Since the appearance, nearly twenty years ago, of the first volume of Husserl”s Jahrbuch für Philosophie und phänomenologische Forschung , philosophers have been watching the development of a movement in Germany that has claimed attention through its opposition on the one side to the still powerful Kantian tradition, on the other to the trend of thought arising under the influence of biological science, aptly named by Meinong Psychologismus . The subtlety and originality of this new line of speculation and the (...)

Responsive Care Management: Family Decision Makers in Advanced Cancer.Mary Ann Meeker - 2011 - Journal of Clinical Ethics 22 (2):107-122.
The purpose of this prospective study was to develop a grounded theory explaining the process that family decision makers use to make care decisions with or for a family member with advanced cancer. Adult surrogate decision makers were recruited for multiple interviews over the patient’s care trajectory: 40 surrogates provided 80 semi-structured interviews. Analysis of these narratives revealed a process of responsive care management that is inclusive of, but not limited to, decision-making roles. Monitoring, buffering, and taking over comprise the (...)

It is with sincere appreciation that I commend this edited collection to readers of the AJTP. The collection meets the task of promoting lively discussion that addresses the interface between theology and philosophy, especially as shaped by empiricist, naturalist, process, and pragmatist traditions. As the most recent volume in the series Toward Ecological Civilization, it delivers papers from the Tenth International Whitehead Conference and Ninth International Forum on Ecological Civilization, held in Claremont, California, June 2015, thereby delivering on a second (...)

Utilizing a decade's worth of clinical experience gained since its original publication, Mary Jo Peebles builds and expands upon exquisitely demonstrated therapeutic approaches and strategies in this second edition of _Beginnings_. The essential question remains the same, however: How does a therapist begin psychotherapy? To address this delicate issue, she takes a thoughtful, step-by-step approach to the substance of those crucial first sessions, delineating both processes and potential pitfalls in such topics as establishing a therapeutic alliance, issues of trust, (...)

Newman a Tweeter? Social Media and the Victorian Age: Personal Reflections Gained from the Digitization Project.Mary Jo Dorsey - 2015 - Newman Studies Journal 12 (2):101-106.
This essay is a reflection of the time I have spent working with Cardinal Newman’s archive at the Birmingham Oratory. I have had a chance to stop and carefully read his letters and diaries and to see Newman as a communicator extraordinaire! I suspect that the Cardinal would have had great command of today’s social media and communications technology. His laity could have been a wider and larger audience on a virtual level. Might this be an opportunity for a sociological (...)

Psychiatric discourse and the feminine voice.Mary C. Rawlinson - 1982 - Journal of Medicine and Philosophy 7 (2):153-178.
Psychoanalytic theory is considered as the appropriate context in which to make sense of the masculine/feminine difference, insofar as it offers a methodology for "reading the text of the body." The extent to which the idea of "penis envy" distorts the psychoanalytic reading of feminine embodiment is demonstrated. In undoing this distortion, a positive account of feminine life is developed in the idea of "becoming the mother of oneself.".

‘Death to the Prancing Prince’: Effeminacy, Sport Discourses and the Salvation of Men's Dancing.Mary Louise Adams - 2005 - Body and Society 11 (4):63-86.
For much of the 20th century, dance writers and critics regularly bemoaned a shortage of male dancers. As one writer put it, the average American father would rather see his son dead than performing on stage in tights. This article looks at commentary about male dancing as a means of understanding popular conceptions of effeminacy. It addresses the way discourses about sport, physical prowess and hard bodies have been appropriated in attempts to validate the manliness of male dancers. Drawing on (...)

Pressure is mounting to hold researchers and research institutions accountable for the protection of human subjects. When subjects or their family members believe they have been injured, they are increasingly willing to file lawsuits. Recent cases indicate that institutional review boards and their members may be pulled more and more into the legal fray.On September 17, 1999, 18-year-old Jesse Gelsinger died while participating in research conducted by the University of Pennsylvania's Institute for Gene Therapy. Gelsinger was involved in a Phase (...)

Respecting difference and moving beyond regulation: Tasks for U.s. Bioethics commissions in the twenty-first century.Mary R. Anderlik - 2005 - Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal 15 (3):289-303.
This article focuses on two possible missions for a national bioethics commission. The first is handling differences of worldview, political orientation, and discipline. Recent work in political philosophy emphasizes regard for the dignity of difference manifested in "conversation" that seeks understanding rather than agreement. The President's Council on Bioethics gets a mixed review in this area. The second is experimenting with prophetic bioethics. "Prophetic bioethics" is a term coined by Daniel Callahan to describe an alternative to compromise-seeking "regulatory bioethics." It (...)

Self-determination and the moral act: a study of the contributions of Odon Lottin, O.S.B.Mary Jo Iozzio - 1995 - Leuven: Peeters.
Odon Lottin, O.S.B. was an historian and a moral theologian. As an historian, he studied the scholastic attention to human psychology and morality. As a theologian, he studied the roles that thought and action play in the development of the moral agent. His influence in historical and moral theology has been significant. Nonetheless, moralists and medievalists independently have appropriated his insights. No one has yet studied the relationship between his historical investigations and his moral theology. This work accomplishes that study. (...)
