The term “Contemplative sciences” refers to an interdisciplinary approach to mind that aims at a better understanding of alternative states of consciousness, like those obtained trough deep concentration and meditation, mindfulness and other “superior” or “spiritual” mental states. There is, however, a key discipline missing: artificial intelligence. AI has forgotten its original aims to create intelligent machines that could help us to understand better what intelligence is and is more worried about pragmatical stuff, so almost nobody in the field seems (...) to be interested to join this new effort of contemplative science. In this paper, I would like to accomplish the following: (1) To give a brief description of the field of “contemplative sciences;” (2) To argue why AI should actively join this new paradigm on the study of the mind; and (3) To set up a research program on artificial wisdom: that is to design computational systems that can model at least some relevant aspects of human wisdom. Human beings inhabit a symbolic reality that articulates meaning. This is culture understood as a web of meanings that actually builds our identity by providing guidance in the complexity of our environment. It is the complex interplay between identity and alterity, between interiority and exteriority, between familiarity and strangeness. Worldviews set up borders that delimit one's own world and others' ground by establishing stereotypes and prejudices. This article presents the results of a research project on prejudices towards the other in (...) students majoring in Education and Psychology with the aim of offering some reflections on what is at stake in social exclusion policies. Este libro es una apuesta por una razón problemática, una síntesis de aquello que en concreto es razón narrativa y en abstracto se denomina "razón histórica". Se trata de una nueva perspectiva que despliega el ejercicio de una crítica acorde con las exigencias del presente. Además, examina las verdades recibidas, analiza su propia condición (modificacional) y constitución (histórica) y desvela un íntimo sentido a través de sus quehaceres. Problematismo, crisis, mutabilidad y cambio son los elementos inherentes a la naturaleza histórica (...) de la vida del hombre. La célebre afirmación orteguiana de que el hombre, en vez de naturaleza, lo que tiene es historia no sólo es expresión de un historicismo que remite tanto a Giambattista Vico como a José Ortega y Gasset, sino la matriz de toda filosofía centrada en la concreción de la existencia humana individual. En este sentido, se concibe un indeleble vínculo entre problematismo de lo real y reflexión filosófica, y una indisoluble complementación entre filosofía e historia, razón y narración, verdad y certeza. Motivado así por las originales ideas de ambos pensadores modernos y actuales, el autor indaga y esgrime una crítica de la razón problemática, y amplía los horizontes de la razón vital, histórica y narrativa que arraigan en la realidad del vivir y en la radicalidad del filosofar. Dirige asimismo su mirada hacia el constitutivo ontológico de la problematicidad, el carácter del filósofo, los espacios y los modos de la filosofía. (shrink)

This paper argues that the different ways of facing Hegel's system, as an impossible attempt to harmonize tradition and openness to novelty, respond to an underlying malaise: that provoked by the disturbing question of “the actuality of philosophy” after Hegel. That question insistently arises with respect to different paradigms of contemporary philosophy, and is found in critical theory, in analytical philosophy of action, in Žižek's materialism, and in Derrida's deconstructive reading. Adorno's interpretation introduces the tension between universal concepts and laws, (...) transmitted by the cultural tradition, and particular elements that the subject of the action must always take into account. As a consequence, the subject must include what is not reducible to a concept, which enables the construction of a language of experience that transcends the identifying thinking of the concept and makes negative dialectics possible as a theory of action.
