This article aims to review the concept of ‘Sokhyung(贖刑)’ as an example of a pluralistic interpretation of ‘Heumhul(欽恤)’ in The Book of Documents in the 18th and 19th centuries, and compared and reviewed the interpretation of The Book of Documents by Jeong Yak-yong(丁若鏞) and Shim Dae-yoon(沈大允). Sokhyung is to replace the original sentence by paying property after the sentence is confirmed. It is a specific application example of Heumhul, which means careful and lenient application of punishment. In The (...) Book of Documents, the discussion related to Sokhyung is presented in Chapter 11 of Soonjeon(舜典) and Yeohyung(呂刑). Seojipjeon(書集傳) written by Chae Chim(蔡沈) became the standard for interpreting Sokhyung, and he opposed Sokhyung because it was not fair. At this time, Sokhyung has the meaning of ‘commutation’, and in this respect, Sokhyung takes on the character of Heumhul in that it is a lenient application of the law. Scholars of the Joseon Dynasty generally tended to follow the views of Chae Chim, but a new interpretation trend emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries. Jeong Yak-yong was in favor of the system of Sokhyung on the grounds that the body was preserved by carrying out Sokhyung. At this time, Sokhyung has a meaning of Heumhul in that it is a method of carefully applying punishment and plays a role in realizing the Virtue that likes to save lives(好生之德). Shim Dae-yoon opposed the system of Sokhyung, but did not fully agree with Chae Chim's view. He argued that Sokhyung has the character of applying the law leniently and plays a role of promising that the punishment will disappear(刑期無刑), but criticized the system of Sokhyung in that it interferes with the discretionary application of the law(權衡). 본 논문의 목적은 ‘체험주의’의 시각을 통해 정약용의 ‘성 기호설’의 의미와 한계를 밝히고, 더 나아가 그 한계를 극복할 수 있는 대안을 제시하는 데 있다. 정약용에 의하면 사람의 본성은 기호다. 그리고 모든 사람에게는 두 가지 유형의 기호가 있다고 한다. 하나는 단것을 좋아하고 쓴 것을 싫어하는 유형의 형구지기호이고, 다른 하나는 선을 좋아하고 악을 싫어하는 유형의 영지지기호이다. 그중 형구지기호는 기질적인 육체의 성향으로서 사람의 도덕성과는 관련이 없지만 영지지기호는 초자연적 하늘이 부여한 정신의 성향으로서 ‘순선무악’하여 이것을 따르면 인의예지를 실천할 수 있게 된다.BR 체험주의의 시각에서 보면 정약용의 성 (...) 기호설은 경험적으로 책임이 있는 학설이 되기어렵다. 그 이유는 정약용의 성 기호설의 배후에 있는 초자연적 요소 때문이다. 그렇다고해서 성 기호설 전체를 폐지해야 하는 것은 아니다. 기호로서의 사람의 본성은 여전히 중요한 의미를 가지고 있다. 필자는 초경험적·초자연적 요소가 아닌 사람의 몸과 환경의 교호작용을 근거로 ‘신체화된 성 기호’를 ‘정약용식 성 기호설’의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 하나의 대안으로 제안한다. 신체화된 성 기호는 한마디로 단 것을 좋아하고 쓴 것을 싫어하는 기호, 선을 좋아하고 악을 싫어하는 기호 등 사람의 모든 기호는 근본적으로 사람의 몸의 기호라고 보는 시각이다. 이 글에서는 유가 심성론의 오랜 화두였던 인심도심설에 대한 다산의 재해석이 성기호설을 거쳐 주체의 도덕적 실천을 강조하는 것으로 귀결된다는 점을 규명하였다. 다산 정약용은 주희의 인심도심 해석이 유가의 도통을 잇고 중흥시켰다고 상찬한다. 그러나 성을 리로 해석했던 성리학의 이법천관을 부정하고 인격천관을 제기한다. 만물에 내재된 보편적 원리인 천리 대신에 상제를 상정한 까닭은 무작위ㆍ무의념한 리가 천지를 생성하고 주재할 수 없다고 보았기 때문이다. 더불어 상제의 영명함이 사람의 정신 즉 마음에 깃들어 있으며, 마음이 선을 좋아하고 악을 싫어하는 기호가 바로 성이라고 주장한다. 다산은 먼저 인심을 기질지성으로 도심을 본연지성으로 (...) 보는 관념을 비판하며, 맹자의 대체와 소체 구도를 빌려 인심도심을 해석한다. 형기에서 비롯되는 기질지성에 의해 선악이 판가름되는 게 아니라 마음이 시비와 선악을 판단한다는 것이다. 나아가 본연과 기질로 성품을 재단함을 문제 삼아 ‘본연’은 불교의 용어이며, 타자에 의지하지 않고 존재하는 불교의 본연은 의미상으로 부합하지 않음을 규명한다. 무엇보다 사람과 금수와 초목이 하늘로부터 부여받은 본연지성이 같지 않음을 들어 본연지성과 기질지성의 구도를 해체한다. 선악을 판단할 수 있는 능력과 자율적으로 선택할 수 있는 자주권은 사람만이 지닌 특성으로서 여타 사물에는 없기 때문이다. 다산은 사람이 살아가는 동안 인심과 도심의 끊임없는 갈등 상황에 직면하며, 이는 성인도 예외가 아니라고 말한다. 성인과 범인, 상지와 하우, 군자와 소인의 차이는 기질지성의 차이가 아니라 주체의 노력 여하에 달려 있다고 보아 도덕 실천의 계기를 마련하고, 인의예지 또한 천부의 덕성이 아니라 행위의 결과로 획득된다고 주장함으로써 주체의 도덕 실천을 강조한다. 이처럼 선악 판단 능력과 선택의 권한을 지닌 주체의 도덕적 실천을 강변한 것은 자연을 규범화했던 중세의 천리로부터 벗어난 새로운 인간형의 제시라고 할 수 있다. This essay investigates Dasan Jeong Yak‐yong's (1762–1836) account of human‐nature‐as‐taste, by comparing his commentaries on significant chapters in the Mengzi to Zhu Xi's commentaries. Dasan argues that human nature is understood through giho, taste sentiments and desires, and not as Principle (li). I first introduce Dasan's account of human‐nature‐as‐taste in his commentaries to 3A1 and 7A4. Next, I argue that giho is most appropriately translated as “taste,” because this term captures the dispositional characteristics of giho as a mental (...) faculty as well as its mental effects, such as desires, sentiments, and preferences. I then examine Dasan's and Zhu Xi's commentaries on 6A7 and 6A6, to illustrate how Dasan's view of human‐nature‐as‐taste interprets the chapters differently from Zhu Xi's metaphysical account of human‐nature‐as‐Principle, which Dasan considers as unsupported by the philological and contextual grounds. This exploration of Dasan's empirical account of human‐nature‐as‐taste, serving as a preliminary for a philosophical study of his reinterpretation of the Confucian Classics and his performative account of moral self‐cultivation, will provide us with an alternative perspective to the Neo‐Confucian metaphysic‐epistemic account of human nature. 오늘날 급속하게 진전된 정보화 인프라와 기술의 발달로 우리의 삶은 매우 편리해졌다. 그러나 동시에 정보 통신 기술의 발달은 사람과 사람 사이의 직접적이고 진솔한 소통의 기회를 줄어들게 하고, 추상적인 인간관계를 이어가게 한다. 더욱이 프라이버시의 보호에 대한 기준도 엄격해지면서 직접적인 소통의 기회가 줄어들고 있다. 또한 저출산으로 인해서 태어나면서부터 형제자매간의 소통은 원천적으로 봉쇄되었으며, 여성의 사회 활동 증가와 결혼의식의 변화로 인해서 1인 가족이 늘면서 청년이 되어서도 역시 인간관계의 기회가 줄어든다. 이 같은 사회 변화의 추세는 앞으로도 심화될 것으로 예상된다. 본고는 다산 정약용의 윤리사상에 대한 검토를 통해서 (...) 이와 같은 현대 사회의 문제해결을 위한 시사점을 고찰하고자 한다. 다산은 그의 독특한 성론인 ‘성기호설’을 통해서 인간이 본질적으로 ‘선한 존재’라기 보다는 ‘선을 지향하는 존재’라고 주장한다. 그리고 인간이 지향하는 선이란 다름 아닌 사람과 사람의 사이에서 발생·달성되는 것이며, 사람과 사람의 사이에서 자신의 역할을 다하는 것이다. 한편, 다산은 선험적인 리(理)를 부정하면서 주자학적 도덕형이상학에서 벗어나고자 한다. 동시에 그것을 대체할 주재적 성격의 천을 윤리적으로 요청한다. 천은 인간의 도심을 통해서 직접 명령하는데, 그 명령의 내용도 결국 사람과 사람이 교제하는 지점에서의 잘잘못에 관한 것이다. 즉, 형이상학적 근거인 천이 존재하는 이유는 인간관계의 회복을 명령하기 위해서이다. 그리고 인간관계의 회복은 지식의 양에 의존한다기보다는, 각각의 상황에서 접하는 사람에게 참된 마음을 일관되게 유지하는 것에 달려있다고 이야기한다. 본 연구는 문명의 전환기의 중심에서 인간과 세상을 새롭게 인식하고 재구성했던 다산의 사유구조를 밝혀, 다산 사상이 지니는 철학적 인간이해의 고유한 지평을 제공하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 사료적 측면에서 다산과 서학의 연속성과 불연속성을 조명하였고, 사상적 측면에서 다산과 서학의 上帝와 天主 개념, 靈明과 靈魂 개념을 분석하였다. 다산은 젊은 시절 보유론적 漢譯西學書를 접하고, 당시 사회통치의 이념이었던 노론계열의 성리학 폐단을 극복하고, 조선사회의 재건 방향을 주도할 새로운 유학의 희망을 찾았다. 상제는 만물을 초월하면서 만물을 창조하고 주재하는 존재라 하더라도, 지금 바로 여기의 순선한 도덕 감정에서 현현되고, 마음과 (...) 분리되지 않으면서 마음에 내재되어 본래상태를 이루고 있다. 理는 그저 자연사물에 현현되는 文理이거나 인간마음에 드러나는 條里이고, 無極과 太極도 ‘無形而有理’의 天理가 아니라 혼돈상태에 머물러 있는 元氣일 뿐이다. 靈明無形의 도심은 마음을 초월하여 실재하거나 몸을 초월하여 자아를 관찰하는 존재가 아니다. 순선한 감정에서 확인되는 마음의 본래 상태가 體이므로, 體와 用은 구분되지 않는다. 하늘[天]은 인간의 도심에 온전히 내재되어 인간의 본래 마음과 간극이 존재하지 않아, ‘天人無間’의 상태를 이루고 있다고 할 수 있다. 또한 양지와 양능처럼 知와 行이 합일되어, 도심에는 강력한 도덕실천의 힘이 확보되어 있다. 물론 선을 좋아하고 악을 싫어하는 성향이 상제의 현현이라 할지라도, 인간의 주체성은 결여되지 않는다. 도덕적 사고와 행위를 지속하는 책임은 ‘自主之權’을 지닌 마음에 달려 있다. 惡은 氣質 때문이 아니라, 마음이 상제의 기호인 道義之性을 따르느냐 형기의 기호인 形軀之性을 추구하느냐에 따라 비롯된다. 문명전환기에 다산이 두 문명과의 역사적 대화 속에서 구상한 심신이론과 도덕본체는 21세기 철학적 인간론의 창조적 재구성을 위한 통찰과 유산으로 우리에게 남아있다. 이 연구는 정약용丁若鏞(1762~1836)의 『악서고존樂書孤存』을 통해 중국과 한국을 중심으로 하는 동양의 고대 ‘악론樂論’을 성찰해보려는 시도이다. 고대로부터 한자와 유교를 공유한 문화권에서는 음악을 단순히 유희의 대상으로 삼지 않고 인간의 내면과 관계되는 것으로 인식하였으며, 그것이 개인과 사회에 미치는 공효功效에 주목하였다. 고대인들은 ‘악樂’이 인간의 내면으로부터 나오는 것으로 간주하고 이를 인간의 수양과 교화의 중요한 수단으로 여겼다. 나아가 ‘악’은 선정善政을 이룩하는 치도治道의 핵심으로 자리잡게 되었는데, 이것이 바로 공자孔子(B.C.551~B.C.479)의 ‘예악정치禮樂政治’ 사상이다.BR 이러한 음악관이 형성된 것은 그 시기를 특정하기 어려울 정도로 매우 오래된 일이다. 또 그것은 선진先秦시대 이후 진한대秦漢代를 거쳐 (...) 매우 오랜 기간 동안 수많은 학자들의 설이 첨삭되면서 현재에 이르고 있다. 후대의 학자들은 기존의 학설에 자신들의 연구와 당대當代의 이론을 합하여 다양한 ‘악 이론’을 제시하였다. 『여씨춘추呂氏春秋』, 『관자管子』, 『사기史記』, 『회남자淮南子』, 『한서漢書』, 『후한서後漢書』, 『악서樂書』와 『율려신서律呂新書』 등은 ‘악’을 당시의 각종 우주론이나 자연론 등과 연관하여 설명하기 시작하면서 더욱 복잡해지는 양상을 띠게 된다. 또 다양한 악률산출 이론이나 율관律管의 제작법을 제시하는데, 그 이론이 서로 합치되지 않아 가닥을 잡기가 어렵다. 더욱이 이러한 이론들은 ‘악’에 대한 관념론적 성향과 이론성이 강하여 실제 악기의 조율이나 연주에 합당하지 못한 경우가 많다.BR 이러한 상황에서 조선 후기 정약용의 『악서고존』은 꽤나 눈길을 끈다. 성리학적 풍토가 강한 조선사회에서 정약용의 학문태도는 관념적인 것을 벗어나 실제 삶에서 활용될 수 있는 실용성을 추구하는 성향이 강하다. 『악서고존』도 그러한 맥락에서 저술되었다. 정약용이 『악서고존』을 통해 추구한 것은 옛 ‘악’의 원리를 밝히고 그 제도를 회복한다는 것이다.BR 이 논문은 『악서고존』의 안내에 따라 동양 고대의 ‘악 이론’을 들여다보려고 한다. 이를 통하여 원시유가의 학자들이 추구했던 예악사상의 본의를 알 수 있는 계기가 되었으면 좋겠다. 그리하여 그간의 연구자들이 관념적인 ‘악’에 치우쳐 이론상으로는 예악사상의 중요성을 강조하면서도 실제상으로는 ‘악’에 대한 언급이나 강론이 어려웠던 상황을 조금이나마 해소되기를 기대해 본다. This series basically delivers Dasan's commentaries on the Analects, but his meticulous and critical investigations about all the resources accessible to him, from the ancient Chinese commentaries of He Yan to the views of Japanese scholars such as Dazai Zun, allow us to (...) engage comprehensive references to each chapter in detail. 『經世遺表』는 정약용의 대표적인 정치경제학 저작이다. 그는 「자찬묘지명」에서 철학적 의미를 다룬 經學과 정치사회적 문제를 다룬 經世學이 本末 구조를 이룬다고 말했다. 『경세유표』의 경우 철학적․사상적 토대는 알려진 것처럼 『周禮』와 『尙書』라는 고대유학 경전이다. 정약용은 『周禮全注』를 기획했지만 이루지 못했기에 『주례』에 대한 그의 입장은 『상서』 등 다른 경전 주석을 통해 살펴볼 수밖에 없다. 『주례』에 대한 다산의 관점은 『春秋』『周易』 및 『中庸』『大學』과도 긴밀히 연계돼 있다. 그는 『주례』를 중심으로 육경사서를 연결시킨 후 이러한 철학적 경전 이해를 통해 『경세유표』의 사회제도 개혁안을 구상했다. 특히 『주례』와 『상서』의 上帝 개념을 통해 君主의 의미와 역할을 (...) 규정하고 君臣 관계를 유비적으로 설명했고, 『주례』의 6부 정부조직안을 모델로 조선의 중앙정부와 관료제를 구상했다. 수도권과 지방의 교육체제, 토지와 조세제도의 개혁, 도시와 지방의 구획 및 운영 등을 모두 『주례』의 古法을 바탕으로 제안한 것이다. 물론 정약용의 제안은 조선후기 현실에 맞게 유학 경전의 내용을 상당 부분 변형한 것이다. 『경세유표』에서 다산이 제안한 사회개혁안에 따르면, 국왕과 신료 모두 철저한 관료제시스템에서 제도적 방식을 통해 제한된 권력만을 행사할 수 있다. 정약용은 王權을 강조한 것이 아니라 상징적 왕을 통해 公權力을 강조했다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 관료기구의 확대, 중앙정부의 철저한 民 지배, 직업과 거주지, 교육, 사회신분 등을 엄격하게 제한하고 차등적으로 통제할 것을 주장했다. 관료제 중심의 개혁안은 다산이 중간 기득권층의 횡포를 막고 국가 전체를 일관된 제도적 원리에 따라 효율적으로 지배하기 위해 내놓은 방안이지만 『경세유표』가 전제한 철학적․이념적 원리에 대해서는 비판적 검토가 필요하다고 본다. A comparison of the political ideas of the 18th-century Vietnamese poet, encyclopedist, and government official Lê Quý Đôn and the younger Korean agronomist, philosopher and poet Chŏng Yag-yong as expressed in their commentaries on the Shu jing.

동아시아 한중일의 유학은 시대와 국가와 학자에 따라 각각 상이한 문제의식을 가지고 있다. 중국의 주희(朱熹1130-1200)는 주자학을 집대성하였다. 이에 일본의 고학파인 이토 진사이(伊藤仁齋1627-1705)와 조선의 실학 집대성자인 다산 정약용(丁若鏞1762-1836)을 주자학과 비교하여 분석하였다. 이 두 사상가는 17세기 이후 변화하는 사회를 극복하고 그 시대에 부합하는 새로운 이론을 만들기 위해 주희식의 사고 체계를 비판하고 새로운 경학관을 제시했다. 다른 사람에게 차마 잔인하게 하지 못하는 도덕적 마음은 도덕적 행위의 출발점이다. 주희는 사람에게 누구나 ‘不忍人之心’이라는 도덕심을 반드시 가지고 있기 때문에 필연적으로 도덕적 행위가 일어나게 된다고 한다. 진사이는 ‘不忍人之心’을 남에게 잔인하고 (...) 각박하게 해치지 않는 마음으로써 일상생활에서 타인과의 관계에서 작동하는 것으로 인식하였다. 정약용은 ‘不忍人之心’이 仁을 모두 발휘할 수 있는 하나의 本理로 보고 있다. 그는 주희가 ‘不忍人之心’으로 사단을 포괄할 수 있다는 점은 부정한다. 진사이와 정약용은 ‘不忍人之心’에 대한 주희의 우주론적 사고의 틀을 극복하여 인간의 실천성을 강조하였다. 또한 진사이는 ‘不忍人之心’의 확충을 타자에 대한 배려로써 정의한 반면에 정약용은 자기 도덕 완성의 출발점으로 본 것이 다른 점이다. 그리고 주희는 사덕을 마음속에 내재한 未發之性으로, 사단을 已發之情으로 보고 있다. 반면 진사이와 정약용은 인의예지는 반드시 일을 행한 뒤에 이루어지는 것으로 보고 사단을 확충하여 실천을 강조한 공통점이 있다. Cancer chemotherapy has been the most common cancer treatment. However, it has side effects that kill both tumor cells and immune cells, which can ravage the patient’s immune system. Chemotherapy should be administered depending on the patient’s immunity as well as the level of cancer cells. Thus, we need to design an efficient treatment protocol. In this work, we study a feedback control problem of tumor-immune system to design an optimal chemotherapy strategy. For this, we first propose a mathematical model (...) of tumor-immune interactions and conduct stability analysis of two equilibria. Next, the feedback control is found by solving the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation. Here, we use an upwind finite-difference method for a numerical approximate solution of the HJB equation. Numerical simulations show that the feedback control can help determine the treatment protocol of chemotherapy for tumor and immune cells depending on the side effects. (shrink)

This paper is an interpretation of the thought of the twentieth century Korean religious thinker, Yoo Yŏng-mo (柳永模, 1890-1981), a pioneer figure who sought to re-conceptualise a Christian understanding of the Ultimate Reality in the light of a positive openness to the plurality of Korean religions. Yoo Yŏng-mo considered that it was possible to present an overall picture of harmony and complementarity between the three traditions of Korea and Christianity, and this is endorsed by the present thesis. This essay is (...) aimed at providing a religious rationale for inter-faith dialogue. Using the principles of ‘Change’ (易, i) and ‘Yin-ying’ (陰陽)dominated in Chinese Classics and East Asian way of thinking, this paper lays out a methodology for envisaging harmony and mutual complementarity between traditions. The effect of some central concepts from within Confucian, Buddhist and Taioist tradition on the Christian thought of Yoo Yŏng-mo is then analysed and examined. In this respect, this paper argues that the Ultimate Reality based on the principle of harmony and mutual complementarity is not only both personal and impersonal as well as both transcendent and imminent, but also neither personal nor impersonal as well as neither transcendent nor imminent. Essentially, therefore, this essay accepts that Yoo Yŏng-mo’s equating of the Christian idea of God with the ‘Great Ultimate’ (太極) in Confucianism, with ‘Nothingness’ (無) in Buddhism and with the ‘One’ or Tao (道) in the thought of Lao-Chuang (老莊思想) of Taoism is a legitimate equivalence to make and that this does indeed pave the way for a potentially fruitful dialogue between Korea’s main religions. The drawing together of the Great Ultimate, Absolute Nothingness, the One Absolute from the Tao and the traditional personal God of Christianity gives the discussion an entirely new direction which has become a challenge for traditional orthodoxChristian theology and also for a pluralistic religious society. All of the world's religions refer to death in some way. Everyone is somewhat familiar with stories about where we go or what happens to us after death. From an early age, we have all heard stories of heaven or hell or some other version of paradise. Many of us believed such stories, and a great number of us still do. When considering that such stories manage to persist in modern times, an age of science and logic, we can be (...) sure that death is an issue to which humans attach great importance. In a sense, the idea of an afterlife can be a great source of comfort to those whose death is imminent, as well as to their loved ones. Those who have led especially difficult lives can look forward to a more pleasant world, while those who have enjoyed happiness and abundance have the chance to experience more good fortune. To those left behind, the idea of an afterlife presents the chance to meet a loved one again. We may not be conscious of it, but such hopes and expectations stay with us throughout our lives. If such an afterlife does exist, then there is no reason to avoid or fear death. Moreover, if we believe that another life awaits us, then we would believe that we are only separated from our loved ones temporarily before being reunited with them later on. (shrink)

茶山 丁若鏞(1762-1836)은 柳馨遠, 李瀷의 經世致用과 北學의 利用厚生 및 西學⋅佛敎⋅陽明學⋅考證學 등을 비판적으로 수용하여 實學을 집대성한 인물이다. 그는 실학뿐만 아니라 題畵詩와 書畵에 관한 題跋도 많이 남기고 있어 詩⋅書⋅畵 방면에도 수준이 매우 높았던 것으로 보인다. 특히 그의 실학은 문예전반과 연계되어 서화미학⋅서화비평 등의 기저가 되고 있다. 다산의 투철한 시대인식과 현실파악에서 비롯된 실학관은 문예전반에서 ‘실제성’과 ‘진실성’이라는 두 축으로 연계된다. 회화에서는 實寫에 입각하여 寫實의 중요성을 인식함으로써 寫實이 되지 못한 상태에서 粗率하고 기괴하게 표현하는 관념적 寫意畵風을 반대한다. 서예에서는 당대의 글씨가 字態의 美麗함에만 경도되어 서예본질의 실제성⋅진실성이 결여되었고 眞氣가 사라졌다고 (...) 비판한다. 이는 예술이 지나치게 관념적 풍조로 치달은 것을 자각하여 예술의 진정성과 實心을 구하려는 입장이다. 특히 다산이 양명학자이자 서예가였던 李匡師를 당대 최고의 서예가로 평가한 것은 주목할 만하다. 여기에는 여러 이유가 있겠지만, 그의 실학에 내재된 陽明心學的 사유와 밀접한 관련이 있다고 하겠다. 즉, 주자학 중심이었던 시대상황 속에서 陸象山, 王陽明의 학문체계를 자신의 학문에 응용한 점은 陽明學의 실천윤리학적 학문성향을 긍정한 결과였다. 그는 이광사의 心學的 예술정신에 대한 간접적 체현을 통하여 脫주자학적 실학정신을 표출한다. 주체적이고 실천적인 학문사상을 이광사에 대한 예술비평을 통하여 간접적으로 발현했던 것이다. 그러므로 정약용의 서화미학사상은 脫朱子學的 실학정신과 陽明心學의 비판적 수용에 의해 형성된 것이라 하겠다. This paper is an interpretation of the thought of the twentieth century Korean religious thinker, Yoo Yŏng-mo (柳永模, 1890-1981), a pioneer figure who sought to re-conceptualise a Christian understanding of the Ultimate Reality in the light of a positive openness to the plurality of Korean religions. Yoo Yŏng-mo considered that it was possible to present an overall picture of harmony and complementarity between the three traditions of Korea and Christianity, and this is endorsed by the present thesis. This essay is (...) aimed at providing a religious rationale for inter-faith dialogue. Using the principles of ‘Change’ (易, i) and ‘Yin-ying’ (陰陽)dominated in Chinese Classics and East Asian way of thinking, this paper lays out a methodology for envisaging harmony and mutual complementarity between traditions. The effect of some central concepts from within Confucian, Buddhist and Taioist tradition on the Christian thought of Yoo Yŏng-mo is then analysed and examined.In this respect, this paper argues that the Ultimate Reality based on the principle of harmony and mutual complementarity is not only both personal andimpersonal as well as both transcendent and imminent, but also neither personal nor impersonal as well as neither transcendent nor imminent. Essentially, therefore, this essay accepts that Yoo Yŏng-mo’s equating of the Christian idea of God with the ‘Great Ultimate’ (太極) in Confucianism, with ‘Nothingness’ (無) in Buddhism and with the ‘One’ or Tao (道) in the thought of Lao-Chuang (老莊思想) of Taoism is a legitimate equivalence to make and that this does indeed pave the way for a potentially fruitful dialogue between Korea’s main religions. The drawing together of the Great Ultimate, Absolute Nothingness, the One Absolute from the Tao and the traditional personal God of Christianity gives the discussion an entirely new direction which has become a challenge for traditional orthodoxChristian theology and also for a pluralistic religious society. 嶺南學派에 그 뿌리를 두고 있는 朝鮮後期의 近畿南人 實學者들은 寒門의 士人들을 위한 새로운 禮論을 펼치면서, 『朱子家禮』 「昏禮」의 四禮가 아닌 『儀禮』 「士昏禮」의 六禮를 바탕으로 時俗을 아우르는 禮論을 전개해 나갔다. 그들은 婚談의 과정에서 신랑⋅신부의 年命을 가지고 상대방 命運의 吉凶을 점친다거나 宮合을 확인하는 등의 風俗과 女家에서의 交拜⋅合巹禮 등 당시에 만연되어 있던 婚俗을 과감히 수용하거나 긍정적인 시각으로 재평가하였다. 아울러 두 가문과의 엄숙한 만남에서 孟子의 이른바 ‘禮의 端緖’인 ‘辭讓之心’을 혼례 과정 속에 녹아들게 할 것을 강조하였다. 이러한 星湖學派의 예론은, 오직 『朱子家禮』를 기본 바탕으로 하고 古禮를 참고로 삼아 (...) 禮論은 전개하고 있는 金長生을 筆頭로 李縡 등으로 이어지는 畿湖學派 西人들의 禮論과는 확연히 구별되는 것이다. 아울러 茶山은 ‘醮禮’라는 용어를 올바르게 사용할 것을 주장하고 있는데, 婚禮 節次에서 행하는 醮禮는 合巹⋅同牢宴을 말하는 것이 아니라 大禮 당일 親迎禮 및 交拜禮를 시작하기에 앞서 신랑⋅신부가 자신들의 父親으로부터 당부의 말을 들으며 받는 술의 禮로서, 사교를 위해 서로 술잔을 권하며 주고받는 ‘酬酌’과 대비되는 酒道이다. 본래 大夫 이상에게만 적용된 규율이었던 禮가 朝鮮後期에는 宗法制度와 身分制度에 반하지 않는 선에서 일반 백성들에게까지 확산되어 禮에 의한 敎化가 이루어졌다. 조선의 수많은 儒學者들이 그토록 禮에 穿鑿하고 수없이 많은 禮書를 저술한 데에는, 조선에서 강제성의 원리인 法보다는 자율성의 원리인 禮가 社會秩序 維持에 더 많은 역할을 담당했기 때문이다. 그러므로 禮에 대한 정확한 평가를 하고자 할 경우에는, 고대 이래 각 시대별로 그 당시의 社會的⋅文化的⋅理念的 價値와도 결부시켜 논해야 할 것이다. 'Jiwoohak' in Confucian Analects is described as one stage of the six-process of life written by Confucius after he recalls his own life. Since Confucius is suggested as a incarnation of sage and also as a being of ideal living, many Confucian scholars have paid attention to this direct description of Confucius's life. Nevertheless, the Confucian scholars show different opinions on a detailed interpretation, especially on the interpretation on 'Isoon(耳順)'. Zhu Xi interprets 'Isoon' as a stage of getting to know (...) without thinking because of that one's Ji(知) reached the most. He thinks that the three-process of 'Boolhok(不惑)' - 'Jicheonmyeong(知天命)' - 'Isoon' is an intensive course of 'Ji'. But, this Zhu Xi's interpretation is rejected by some of the later scholars such as Dasan Chong Yak-Yong, Ito Jinsai and Jiao Xun etc. These later scholars interpret that 'Isoon' is a stage of being not offensive when someone hears of something against the process of nature or slander on oneself. And they regard Zhu Xi's interpretation as a mistranslation by his impractical attempt to sanctify Confucius. However, Zhu Xi's interpretation is based on his Theory of Mind-Nature and the six-process is applied not to a sage but to an ordinary human. Therefore, to raise a question on Zhu Xi's interpretation means to disagree the sanctification of human designated by Zhu Xi and Dasan Chong Yak-Yong and Ito Jinsai stand on that position. Then, Zhu Xi's interpretation on ‘Jiwoohak’ should be read in the context of his Mind-Nature Theory not to misread it. In addition, to analyze his interpretation on the six-process of life can help Zhu Xi's Theory of Mind-Nature and understanding of human. This paper focuses on that the three-process of 'Boolhok' - 'Jicheonmyeong' - 'Isoon' is an intensive course of 'Ji'. Zhu Xi accounts that 'Boolhok' is to know in terms of Sa(事, affair), 'Jicheonmyeong' is to know in terms of Li(理, principle) and 'Isoon' is to be well versed in terms of both Sa and Li. The progress of 'Sa - Li - Li and Sa' can be explained as 'phenomenalistic knowing - substantialistic knowing - knowing the unit of phenomenon and substance' as Avatamsaka shows. The development of this three-process means not an increase or extend of the knowledge but a leap and qualitative transformation of a subject and object. (shrink)

This article has the purpose of examining the commentation that Sung-ho Yi Ik and Da-san Jung Yak-yong developed of Sa-chil Debate (사칠논쟁) Which was a philosophical debate in Chosun Dynasty. Sa-chil Debate began from Toe-gye Yi Whang and Ko-bong Gi Dae-sung and soon as a result of Yul-gok Yi Yi and Woo-gae Sung Hon repeating the debate, It appeared as a kind of philosophical theme. After that, Yul-gok and Toe-gye's students formed a kind of school. They also made the (...) debate extended and the theory more sophisticated by criticizing a counterpart's argument on base of ideologizing their teacher's theory. About 200 years after Toe-gye died, Sung-ho Yi Ik was born and after about 250 years, Da-san Jung Yak-yong was born. Both they experienced a western naturalscience and a catholic theory as Silhak Scholars (실학자). Therefore their this kind of interpretation about Sung-li Debate must be offering a deeply interesting investigation to us. In conclusion, Sung-ho advocated Toe-gye's theory at all, adding more explanation to it and Da-san evaluated all of Toe-gye's and Yul-gok's theory to be right because their theories have a unique logicality of making a sense. Sung-ho stood on a Shilhak view point gave up a organic cosmology ofSung-li theory which has a continuity to cosmology and moral theory, arguing Sa-chil-Li bal-Yil-lo Theory (四七理發一路說) by understanding Sa-chil Debate based on only moral perspective. Even though Da-san also said Yang-si Theory (兩是論) that both their theories are all right, he argued that Toe-gye's theory is much more important in the aspect of moral practice owing to his religious opinion by a catholic affect. By the way, Sung-ho supplemented and explained Toe-gye's theory, but he had not a sufficient logic and was not objective because of his leaning into advocating Toe-gye's theory much further. Da-san had an advantage of evaluating both Toe-gye's and Yul-gok's theory to be all right, but came to argue an insufficient philosophy on account of its simplicity. (shrink)

This study examines the effects of individual ethical values and organizational factors on the professional ethics of PR practitioners in Korea by considering a person–situation interactionist model. Individual ethical values are used as individual factors, and organizational factors consist of an organization’s reward and punishment for ethical/unethical behavior, the behavior of peers, and the ethical integrity of the chief ethics officer. The professional ethics of PR practitioners (the dependent variable) are classified into the following three dimensions: professional ethics for the (...) public, the client, and the PR industry. The results indicate that agency practitioners were more likely to be committed to their profession than to their organization, whereas in-house practitioners were more likely to be committed to their organization than to their profession. That is, in-house practitioners showed weak professional commitment, indicating that they perceived themselves as employees, not as PR professionals. Organizational factors such as reward, punishment, and peers’ ethical behavior had considerable influence on the professional ethics of in-house practitioners, whereas they had little influence on agency practitioners. Organizational factors as well as individual ethical values were more likely to influence the professional ethics of in-house practitioners than that of agency practitioners. Thus, to foster in-house practitioners’ professional ethics and commitment, professional associations in the PR industry should make efforts to provide in-house practitioners with more information on the PR industry and more opportunities for interacting and maintaining communication with their colleagues in the industry. The aim of this study is to examine the current profile of bioethics education in the nursing curriculum as perceived by nursing students and faculty in Korea. A convenience sampling method was used for recruiting 1223 undergraduate nursing students and 140 nursing faculty in Korea. Experience of Bioethics Education, Quality of Bioethics Education, and Demand for Bioethics Education Scales were developed. The Experience of Bioethics Education Scale showed that the nursing curriculum in Korea does not provide adequate bioethics education. The (...) Quality of Bioethics Education Scale revealed that the topics of human nature and human rights were relatively well taught compared to other topics. The Demand for Bioethics Education Scale determined that the majority of the participants believed that bioethics education should be a major requirement in the nursing curriculum. The findings of this study suggest that bioethics should be systemically incorporated into nursing courses, clinical practice during the program, and during continuing education. (shrink)

Factory workers make up a large proportion of China’s internal migrants and may be highly susceptible to job and adaptation stress, negative affective states (e.g., depression and anxiety), and Internet gaming disorder (IGD). This cross-sectional study investigated the relationships between job stress, psychological adaptation, negative affective states and IGD among 1,805 factory workers recruited by stratified multi-stage sampling between October and December 2019. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to test the proposed mediation model. Among the participants, 67.3% were male (...) and 71.7% were aged 35 years old or below. The prevalence of probable depression, probable anxiety, and IGD was 39.3, 28.7, and 7.5%. Being male, younger age, and shorter duration of living in Shenzhen were associated with higher IGD scores. Job stress was significantly associated with IGD (β = 0.11,p= 0.01) but not with negative affective states (β = 0.01,p= 0.77). Psychological adaptation was significantly associated with negative affective states (β = −0.37,p 0.05). Negative affective states were positively associated with IGD (β = 0.27,p< 0.001). The indirect effect of psychological adaptation (β = −0.10,p= 0.004) but not job stress (β = 0.003,p= 0.77) on IGD through negative affective states was statistically significant. The observed psychological correlates and mechanisms are modifiable, and can inform the design of evidence-based prevention programs for depression, anxiety, and IGD in this population. (shrink)

Computer aided modeling and simulation of nanomaterials can describe the correlation between the material’s microstructure and its macroscopic properties quantitatively. In this paper, we propose an integrated modeling, simulation, and visualization approach for designing nanomaterials. Firstly, a fast parametric modeling method for important nanomaterials such as graphene, nanotubes, and MOFs is proposed; secondly, the material model could be edited adaptively without affecting the validity of the model on the physical level; thirdly a preliminary calculation for nanomaterials’ energy is implemented based (...) on the theory of surface fitting; finally, an integrated framework of nanomaterials modeling, simulation, and visualization is designed and implemented.
