L'auteur, neveu de l'académicien, donne son éclairage sur ces circonstances, en vue de contribuer à son portrait. À partir d'archives familiales il traite de son amour passionné pour la vallée de la Tardes, en Creuse, dans laquelle (...) il a situé le portrait de sa mère, des relations très étroites avec son frère Henri, de son expérience de la chose militaire, de son parcours universitaire, avec la douloureuse épreuve de l'Épuration, et de sa fièvre verte académique. Il évoque ses flirts avec des illustres. Il raconte un certain nombre de souvenirs familiaux, avec quelques précisions sur sa vie quotidienne. This article examines the reputation of John Henry Newman in France between the end of the First World War and the end of the Second. One effect of the controversy over Modernism was that Newman, despite his great popularity in France in the late nineteenth century as a convert to Catholicism, was not widely appreciated between the wars as an original thinker, either in the French Catholic Church or in the philosophical community. Henri Bremond's popular pre-war psychological biography of (...) Newman had been rather misleading. Jean Guitton's 1933 thesis was a rare attempt to show the importance of Newman's ideas about time and development, which offered a robust theology of history as a challenge to the increasing dominance of Hegelian views. Debates about Christian philosophy largely ignored Newman, as did the emerging disciplines of phenomenology and existentialism, at least in their French forms. No one really championed Newman consistently in France until Maurice Nédoncelle embarked on his long-term project of translating, editing and explaining the full range of his work for a new generation . People then began to discover, to their surprise, that these movements in philosophy, as well as the ‘nouvelle théologie’ movement in the Church, were all to some extent indebted to Newman, through some of his early French admirers such as Laberthonnière and Ollé-Laprune; and the relevance of his thought to the post-war world at last began to be acknowledged. Belgian electoral law clearly and explicitly describes a procedure by which proportional representation is refined through grouping of lists from different districts of the same province. However, the actual practice of provincial electoral boards diverges from legal prescriptions to the extent that about 10 % of the seats at the House of Representatives are mis-occupied, though there is absolutely nothing that could impede a strict application of the law.

Parallel to the New Left, whose influence on French public opinion is so pronounced today, a new academic movement has grown up in the United States in the last fifteen years. Its ideas are the portents of an intellectual and scientific revolution whose importance for the economic and political future of western society should be almost as great as the Keynesian revolution of the ‘30s.

Paris. The Place de Grève is teeming with the city's idle seeking relief from their boredom. Street-singers, story-tellers and showmen are encircled by groups of people in varying moods—some sullen, others eager, some distracted, others attentive. Sweets vendors, mercers and lampoonists attract customers by their words and gestures. A little apart from the crowd, men with grave faces seem to be waiting for something: they are the unemployed, keeping an eye out for a possible hirer. On some days a drumroll (...) precedes several men-at-arms escorting a condemned man and his executioner to the place of execution; the festive atmosphere turns suddenly somber, the crowd becomes silent. If scattered jeers and taunts are heard, more often than not it is just to relieve the tension.The Place de Grève gave its name to the French word for strike, greve. And perhaps something still remains of the liveliness of that gathering-place in today's strikes. The Spanish word for strike, huelga, is near to juerga, Spanish for amusement or diversion. The English “strike,” the German streik, the Italian sciopero, all connote fighting, an exchange of blows. The words themselves thus suggest that a strike may be both militant and festive. (shrink)

During the seventies, the Belgian-Zairese relations are characterized by a series of crises and reconciliations.Many facts had an important effect on those relations : the « Zairianisation » of foreign, especially Belgian, companies; President Mobutu's request for economic aid; the Shaba-invasion of 1977; the presence of Zaïrese opponents in Belgium and the hostility against Kinshasa and especially against President Mobutu from the part of particular Belgian circles.All these facts make it very difficult to Belgium to draw a coherent policy in (...) this case. La médecine personnalisée devrait être renommée "médecine des données". Les finalités de cette médecine sont, à partir d'une quantité importante de données, de déduire ou d'induire différentes informations valorisables à la fois au niveau du soin, de la recherche et de l'industrie. Pour cela, un réseau d'échange ou de partage d'échantillons biologiques, de données génétiques et d'informations entre patients, cliniciens, chercheurs et industriels est développé, grâce à des voies de communication dématérialisées. Ce réseau permet de centraliser le stockage, et une (...) partie du traitement et de l'analyse, au niveau de centres de soin et de recherche académiques et/ou de "plateformes bifaces". Les enjeux éthiques majeurs de cette médecine résident alors dans les moyens et les modalités d'accès, de stockage et d'usage des données génétiques et requièrent des solutions. L'intérêt de cette thèse de doctorat est donc de proposer à la fois une nouvelle méthode de recherche en bioéthique permettant de mieux étudier de tels phénomènes sociaux complexes et une solution possible aux enjeux éthiques identifiés grâce à cette méthode. Il s'agit, respectivement, de la modélisation théorique systémique inductive qualitative et du consentement éclairé exprès dynamique électronique. (shrink)
