Personality and mental time travel: A differential approach to autonoetic consciousness.Jordi Quoidbach, Michel Hansenne & Caroline Mottet - 2008 - Consciousness and Cognition 17 (4):1082-1092.
Recent research on autonoetic consciousness indicates that the ability to remember the past and the ability to project oneself into the future are closely related. The purpose of the present study was to confirm this proposition by examining whether the relationship observed between personality and episodic memory could be extended to episodic future thinking and, more generally, to investigate the influence of personality traits on self-information processing in the past and in the future. Results show that Neuroticism and Harm Avoidance (...)

Personality modulation of (un) conscious processing: novelty seeking and performance following supraliminal and subliminal reward cues.Gaëlle M. Bustin, Jordi Quoidbach, Michel Hansenne & Rémi L. Capa - 2012 - Consciousness and Cognition 21 (2):947-952.
This study provides evidence that personality traits associated with responsiveness to conscious reward cues also influence responsiveness to unconscious reward cues. Participants with low and high levels of Novelty Seeking performed updating tasks in which they could either gain 1 euro or 5 cents. Gains were presented either supraliminally or subliminally at the beginning of each trial. Results showed that low NS participants performed better in the high-reward than in the low-reward condition, whereas high NS participants’ performance did not differ (...)

Silencing the past: Power and the Production of History.Michel-Rolph Trouillot - 1995 - Boston, Massachusetts: Beacon Press. Edited by Hazel V. Carby.
In this provocative analysis of historical narrative, Michel-Rolph Trouillot demonstrates how power operates, often invisibly, at all stages in the making of history to silence certain voices. From the West's failure to acknowledge the Haitian Revolution, the most successful slave revolt in history, to the continued debate over denials of the Holocaust, and the meaning of Columbus's arrival in the Americas, Trouillot shows us that history is not simply the recording of facts and events, but a process of actively (...)

Eleven theses or hypotheses on the way out of the pandemic.Michel Wieviorka - 2023 - Thesis Eleven 177 (1):6-14.
Written while the pandemic was still a key issue, this article tries to imagine the post-pandemic from different perspectives, and first of all in distinct temporalities. A question arises immediately: how can we consider the hypothesis of a deep cultural or anthropological mutation with intellectual or scientific tools that were forged before this mutation? What might new approaches for the social sciences look like? The article proceeds to analyse the more obvious social, technological and cultural changes that occurred with the (...)

Speaking the truth about oneself: lectures at Victoria University, Toronto, 1982.Michel Foucault - 2021 - Chicago: University of Chicago Press. Edited by Henri-Paul Fruchaud, Daniele Lorenzini & Daniel Louis Wyche.
Speaking the Truth about Oneself is composed of lectures that acclaimed French philosopher Michel Foucault delivered in 1982 at the University of Toronto. As is characteristic of his later work, he is concerned here with the care and cultivation of the self, which becomes the central theme of the second and third volumes of his famous History of Sexuality, published in French in 1984, the month of his death, and which are explored here in a striking and typically illuminating (...)

    Linguistics and Social Sciences.Michel Foucault - 2023 - Theory, Culture and Society 40 (1-2):259-278.
Written with the suppression of the Tunisian students by their own government in view, Michel Foucault’s March 1968 ‘Linguistics and Social Sciences’ opens up a new horizon of historical inquiry and epitomises Foucault’s abiding interest in formulating new methods for studying the interaction of language and power. Translated into English for the first time by Jonathan D.S. Schroeder and Chantal Wright, this remarkable lecture constitutes Foucault’s most explicit and sustained statement of his project to revolutionise history by transposing the (...)

Abécédaire de la philosophie pour enfants.Michel Sasseville - 2020 - [Quebec]: Presses de l'Université Laval. Edited by Johanna Hawken.

Before philosophy, time was not problematized, it was a pure common-sensical matter. There were various experiences of time, and, accordingly, different words to name it. Whitehead’s solution of the temporal conundrum lies in the concept of “creative advance of nature” (...)

Order in Descartes, Harmony in Leibniz: Two Regulative Principles of Mathematical Analysis.Michel Serfati - 2013 - Studia Leibnitiana 45 (1):59-96.
This article is devoted to some of the dominant positions in the philosophy of mathematics, in Descartes and in Leibniz, and to their consequences drawn by these authors in mathematical analysis. I shall treat of Descartes’ epistemological conceptions of analysis and of the primacy of order, both of which are excellently exposited in the _Rules for the direction of the mind_ and of various mathematical devices which he developed later, from the time of the _Cogitationes privatae_ until the _Géométrie_.

  50. Quasi-factive Belief and Knowledge-like States.Michel J. Shaffer - forthcoming - Lexington Books.
This book is addresses a topic that has received little or no attention in orthodox epistemology. Typical epistemological investigation focuses almost exclusively on knowledge, where knowing that something is the case importantly implies that what is believed is strictly true. This condition on knowledge is known as factivity and it is, to be sure, a bit of epistemological orthodoxy. So, if a belief is to qualify as knowledge according to the orthodox view it cannot be false. There is also an (...)
