This volume presents the proceedings of the workshop CSL '91 (Computer Science Logic) held at the University of Berne, Switzerland, October 7-11, 1991. This was the fifth in a series of annual workshops on computer sciencelogic (the first four are recorded in LNCS volumes 329, 385, 440, and 533). Das Buch fuhrt Proklos' Henadenlehre im Kontext seines Teilhabe-Theorems einer schlussigen Interpretation zu und zeigt, wie Nikolaus von Kues das Theorem verwendet, um in seinem Werk "Uber den Frieden im Glauben" u.a. die divergenten Perspektiven von Islam und Christentum auf die Trinitatslehre miteinander zu vermitteln.

This volume presents the proceedings of the Computer Science Logic Workshop CSL '92, held in Pisa, Italy, in September/October 1992. CSL '92 was the sixth of the series and the first one held as Annual Conference of the European Association for Computer Science Logic (EACSL). Daß der Anteil griechischen Materials am Wortschatz der koptischen Sprache enorm hoch ist und daß er nicht nur quantitativ, sondern auch qualitativ, durch Lehnworte der meisten grammatischen und semantischen Wortklassen, konstitutive Bedeutung für das koptische Lexikon hat, ist nie bezweifelt worden. Dennoch sind alle existierenden koptischen Wörterbücher (z.B. Peyron, Spiegelberg, Crum, Westendorf) vom Standpunkt ägyptischer Etymologie und Diachronie aus zusammengestellt – die synchronen griechischstämmigen Bestandteile des koptischen Wortschatzes blieben prinzipiell ausgeschlossen, etwa vergleichbar einem Duden, der Worte wie ‚Fenster‘, ‚Mauer‘, ‚Wein‘ (...) oder ‚Ziegel‘ aussparte. Semasiologische oder onomasiologische Studien zum griechischen Lehnwortschatz waren bislang auf die Indices von Editionen und Konkordanzen vereinzelter Textcorpora angewiesen. Kein Wunder also, daß die lexikographische Erfassung der griechischen Lehnworte im Koptischen seit langem zu den dringendsten Desideraten zählt. Vor nun genau fünfzig Jahren wurde von Alexander Böhlig in Halle das Wörterbuch-Projekt griechischer Lehnworte im Koptischen begründet, nach widrigen Schicksalen ist es 1996, wiederum in Halle, neubegründet worden. Em seu livro Mente e Mundo John McDowell pretende superar a oscilação entre duas abordagens que pretendem mediar à relação entre as mentes e o mundo, de um lado temos o mito do dado dizendo que os pensamentos precisam de uma coerção a partir do mundo exterior, e do outro lado temos o coerentismo que apresenta a ideia de que apenas uma crença pode justificar outra crença. Para defender sua abordagem e naturalizar as capacidades conceituais, situando a espontaneidade na natureza (...) sem reduzi-la no interior do reino da lei. A natureza humana seria então uma segunda natureza que não é só formada a partir das capacidades adquiridas no nascimento, mas que são formadas também a partir da Bildung. Ao lançar mão dessas noções, McDowell traz a discussão das ideias de Han-Georg Gadamer sobre a experiência de abertura para o mundo através da linguagem. Deste modo, a intenção do presente artigo é de discutir sobre as implicações das noções de Bildung e segunda natureza na obra de McDowell buscando um maior esclarecimento a partir da influência e das interpretações de Gadamer. The rich conceptual and experiential relays between music and philosophy—echoes of what Theodor W. Adorno once called _Klangfiguren_, or "sound figures"—resonate with heightened intensity during the period of modernity that extends from early German Idealism to the Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School. This volume traces the political, historical, and philosophical trajectories of a specifically German tradition in which thinkers take recourse to music, both as an aesthetic practice and as the object of their speculative work. Die Vorstellungswelten bilden einen eminent wichtigen Bestandteil historischer Forschung, weil bei kaum einem anderen Gegenstand die Menschen selbst so deutlich in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses treten wie bei menschlichen Vorstellungen, mit denen die Menschen sich selbst und ihre Umwelt wahrnehmen und sie zu erklären und zu begreifen suchen. Das Denken der Menschen ist Grundlage ihres Handelns und bildet daher einen entscheidenden Faktor aller historischen Vorgänge. Im Zuge einer sich immer stärker abzeichnenden kulturwissenschaftlichen und anthropologischen Betrachtungsweise heutiger Geisteswissenschaften dürfte das Thema (...) in Zukunft noch an Bedeutung gewinnen. Mit den religiösen Vorstellungswelten des Mittelalters aber erfassen wir den zentralen Aspekt dieser Epoche schlechthin. Ziel des Autors ist es, einen repräsentativen und zugleich informativen und anschaulichen Einblick in die geistig-religiöse Befindlichkeit der (schreibenden) mittelalterlichen Menschen aus geschichtswissenschaftlicher Perspektive zu bieten, als ein erstes Ergebnis, an das die künftige Forschung anknüpfen oder mit dem sie sich auseinandersetzen kann. Unter dem Titel „Gott und die Welt“ ist dabei auf die Bedeutung religiöser Vorstellungen im Mittelalter, vor allem aber auf deren zentralen Ausgangspunkt mittelalterlicher Religiosität verwiesen: den Schöpfer und seine Schöpfung. Im ersten, nun vorliegenden Teilband des Werkes behandelt der Autor das mittelalterliche Gottesbild, einen Aspekt mittelalterlicher Vorstellungswelten, der hier erstmals in dieser Ausführlichkeit aufgearbeitet wird. Erkenntnisprobleme, Diskussionen um Gottes Wirken als Schöpfer, Lenker und Richter kommen dabei ebenso ausführlich zur Sprache wie Diskurse um das göttliche Wesen, das Trinitätsproblem, Gottesbeweise und bildliche Gottesdarstellungen. Der in Kürze folgende zweite Teilband wird über die materielle und personelle Schöpfung, also über den Kosmos (Natur und Kosmos, Himmel, Paradies, Hölle und Erde) und die Geschöpfe (Engel, Teufel, Menschen) sowie das Heilsgeschehen, handeln. The contributors to this book rewrite Richter's history to include his pivotal role in the development of the early twentieth-century avant-garde and his political activism.

Der Beitrag untersucht Gerhard Richters Gemälde "Betty" (1988, WV 663-5) als bildliche Darstellung der elementaren Verletzlichkeit menschlichen Lebens. Als Theorie solcher Verletzlichkeit wird die politische Philosophie Judith Butlers herangezogen, methodisch orientiert sich die Untersuchung an Überlegungen der Bildhermeneutik Gottfried Boehms. So entwickelt der Beitrag den Gedanken einer präreflektiver normativer Verpflichtung, der in Richters Gemälde anschaulich wird. Zum Vergleich wird die Interpretation eines Gemäldes von Werner Scholz herangezogen (Antigone), die Hans-Georg Gadamer entwickelt hat.

Wittgenstein has often been ascribed a ‘use-theory of meaning’. However, he explicitly renounced theory construction. Furthermore, his slogan ‘Don’t ask for the meaning, ask for the use!’ invites circumventing the question ‘What is meaning?’ altogether. This chapter argues that, Wittgenstein’s ambivalence notwithstanding, there is no merit in avoiding the title question (‘What is meaning?’). Moreover, it is argued that, while Wittgenstein’s reflections are incompatible with a formal theory of meaning, they do lay the foundations of a viable account of the (...) concept of linguistic meaning, namely by elucidating its connections with other concepts like those of rule, explanation, and understanding. Hans Rudi Fischer eröffnet vom Standpunkt einer philosophischen Analyse her einen neuen Zugang zu bestimmten Formen der Geisteskrankheit und damit zu ihrer psychotherapeutischen Analyse und Behandlung. Die Studie ist daher im Zwischenbereich zwischen Philosophie, Sprachtheorie und Psychologie bzw. Psychotherapie angesiedelt und somit für alle drei Bereiche von Interesse. Ihre Zielrichtung ist deshalb eine doppelte: Zum einen sollen Wittgensteins verstreute Bemerkungen zur Psychologie, zum Wahnsinn und zur Psychoanalyse in einer systematischen Interpretation ihres (bisher, wenn diese Bemerkungen überhaupt beachtet wurden, meist (...) unterstellten) kursorischen Charakters entkleidet und in einen konsistenten Zusammenhang mit seinem philosophischen Konzept von Sprachspiel, Grammatik und Lebensform gebracht werden. Zum anderen soll von dieser philosophisch gewonnenen Position her eine (weiterführende) Kritik an einigen Positionen der Psychoanalyse sowie an kommunikationstheoretischen Ansätzen in der Psychopathologie (Bateson und, auf ihn folgend, Watzlawick) geübt werden. Ergebnis ist eine philosophische Erklärung von Schizophrenie als Verschiebung der Grammatik (in Wittgensteins Gebrauch dieses Terminus) aufgrund devianter Lebensformen im sozialen Nukleus der Familie. Although Bohr's reply to the EPR argument is supposed to be a watershed moment in the development of his philosophy of quantum theory, it is difficult to find a clear statement of the reply's philosophical point. Moreover, some have claimed that the point is simply that Bohr is a radical positivist. In this paper, we show that such claims are unfounded. In particular, we give a mathematically rigorous reconstruction of Bohr's reply to the _original_ EPR argument that clarifies its logical (...) structure, and which shows that it does not rest on questionable philosophical assumptions. Rather, Bohr's reply is dictated by his commitment to provide "classical" and "objective" descriptions of experimental phenomena. (shrink)

Modal concepts as possibility, necessity, contingency and reality belong to the most important means of reflection. They constitute philosophical systems - but they are not used in a systematic way to characterize technology. The central ontological problem consists in the fact that technology is based on new ideas, which at the beginning are a mere possibility, because the intended artifacts and processes never existed up to that moment. Even the blueprint expresses a possibility. But these possibilities must be realizable, since (...) technological artifacts or processes have to work properly in the world following physical andcausal necessity. Moreover, boundary conditions, sometimes seen as feasibility (a very special kind of conditioned possibility), have to take into account conditions of the real world (as material, energy, local conditions), cognitive conditions (theoretical knowledge, know how – i.e. dispositions, which are possibilities, too), social and cultural conditions (norm, values i.e. deontic possibilities). They all constitute the realm of technological possibility. Within this region the development of technology takes place. But at the same time they have influenced our thinking and our culture from the very beginning. (shrink)
